Got the vermicelli plate togo and it didn't take too long to get once I had ordered. The pork was perfectly grilled and the shrimp were fresh. I've heard people say this place was good and it did not disappoint.

===TL;DR=== - Bun rieu - Bun bo hue ===TMI=== This place is always bustling inside. Looks like they're filled with many locals and regulars. Once you get seated, they're ready to take your order haha. Can't go wrong with any of these 2 noodle soups. Both hearty and soothes your soul. They don't skimp out on toppings and what I love most is that if you order their Vietnamese coffee, it still drips in front of you vs. places that had them premade. They're a good Sunday family spot or honestly, 7 days a week spot (not sure if they're open 7 days a week tho) for quick and cozy fix.

Free parking in a plaza. Good bun bo hue where they are generous with their protein portions, and not too spicy nor too sweet.

WHEN: Mon @6pm After a weekend of rich-eating food, I wanted something light and soupy. So we came here for the first time to give it a try. Definitely a mom and pops kind of feel where it's a pretty small restaurant. Looks like it used to be a deli shop. It's located where it's a shared parking lot so there's plenty of free parking. Here's what I tried: #52 HU TIEU CHAY - $15.95 Veggie Soup w/RIce Noodles, Tofu and Mixed Vegetables. The mixed vegetables was Broccoli, Bok Choy, and Carrots. It's honestly weird to have noodle soup with broccoli. But hey I wanted vegetables and I got it. What I should have done was just request this be served in Chicken Broth for some protein since I"m not a vegetarian. It was good for a vegan dish. #9 PHO TAI & NAM - $15.95 Rare Steak + Well Done Flank. My partner ordered this and I thought was pretty good. I'd come back and try their other items.

Walked in and made a to go order for 8 people. They are so kind and offered us to sit even though we were take out. We ordered at the register and were given water and a table while we waited. It was very fast service as they made the food fresh. The place had many customers and their service was excellent. The food and drinks we ordered were fresh, delicious and made correctly. We ordered 4 grilled pork Bahn mi sandwiches that had fresh bread and plenty of food inside and good flavor. Then 2 orders of beef pho that was fresh with the meat and all things put on the side since it was to go. The veggies and toppings were plentiful and fresh as well (including packs of plum sauce and sirracha). We also ordered fired egg rolls (looked delish but was too full to try) as well as 2 Vietnamese teas and a Vietnamese coffee. All were so flavorful and so good! Highly recommend.

I have been at Rang Dong restaurant a few times and they all have been very solid experiences. They serve the typical dishes you'd find at a pho restaurant - variety of pho, vermicelli dishes, rice plates and banh mis. I've only ordered their pho and it has been consistently great. It is very comforting and soothing especially during rainy and cold seasons. Service was also pretty great - friendly staff, walk-in friendly, and quick service. If you're looking for a solid pho/Vietnamese restaurant in Alameda, I highly recommend this place!

Would totally come again! It's starting to get chilly so I really wanted some soup one Monday night, and this place really came through! They seem to specialize in bun rieu and bun bo hue which was so exciting to see bc I don't see many places promote them as much as they do with pho. Long story short, this place is delicious and home-y! Service was also quick and attentive, and the ambiance really felt like a home-y noodle shop. Although the restaurant was a little small, there was plenty of seating indoors. On a Monday night it was packed! THE FOOD: --Bun Bo Hue: 9/10 This was delicious! It was actually spicy which I loved. This particular broth had a stronger shrimp paste taste which was the only reason why I docked off a point. They gave plenty of meat as well. Noodles were also on point. --Bun Rieu: 8/10 This was also delicious! The tomato broth was warming, but again this also had a little bit too strong of a shrimp paste taste (which is a personal preference). --Shrimp & Pork Spring Rolls: 10/10 Can't go wrong with this. Peanut sauce was amazing, ingredients were fresh. Overall I would come back again!

It was such a bad bun rieu..only tasted fish sauce.

I had it again in alameda location and it was pretty good. I think this review was for Oakland location. I had better bun rieu before but this one is decent and satisfies your craving...

Solid spot for Vietnamese in Alameda. It doesn't have frills, the interior feels more homey than trendy, but it's family owned and that's a plus for me. The food was solid, would come back to try other things on the menu.

Being Vietnamese, I've had excellent food in Vietnam and San Jose. I was planning on buying a home in Alameda, so I wanted to try all the Vietnamese restaurants there. I saw that many people liked Rang Dong on Reddit, so I knew I had to try it. Unfortunately, I was left disappointed. Their Vietnamese food here is very underwhelming. It is more Americanized Vietnamese food. The broth is lackluster. They barely have any toppings in the soup. If you want good Bun Rieu, go to Da Nang Quan or Pho King in Oakland. Many people like this place because of their customer service. The people who work here are very lovely and sweet.

First time here after hearing about this place several times. Overall the banh mi sandwiches were decent: the bread was nice, fluffy and hot Minimal pickled veggies Minimal pate and mayo Good amount of meat Id come here again to try their pho or rice plates before I give my official YAY or NAY on how I feel about this place. I will say that the thai tea was excellent though.

Bun Bo hue is one of my 2 go to orders when I'm craving Vietnamese noodles. The noodles here carry the soup flavor well, and I like the variety of meats included. The soup had nice rich flavor and the spicy level was just right for someone with mild-medium tolerance. The portion size was perfect for me, but for someone with a larger appetite may be on the smaller side. Service was quick, and the interior is nice and simple.

The duck salad was a hit. Citrus, some fish sauce. A great way to open up your appetite. The wings also had a bit of fish sauce funkiness on their glaze, and were juicy and crispy. The shaking beef with the with the rice noodles and lettuce was also a crowd-pleaser. The beef was tender and flavorful. We tried two hot pot flavors: sweet and sour and the pork bone broth. I preferred the sweet and sour one with the fish, prawns, and lots of interesting veggies like okra and the bac-ha which was fanstastic at soaking up the broth. I found the pork one a bit gamey, and the pork being already in the hot-pot was not super tender. Service was friendly and generally attentive. Definitely worth checking out for a date or a group dinner.

I've tried both the Oxtail/beef and pork hotpot, both were really good, I like the pork a little better because I'm a huge tonkotsu ramen fan, and the broth reminded me of that a lot. The beef luc lac, which is sort of like shaking beef over vermicelli and lettuce is also excellent. They now charge extra for broth refills, which they did not the first time I dined here, around a year or so ago. Overall, this is a nice addition to Alameda's dining options and I hope they stick around!

I appreciate their twist (tangerine sauce instead of nước chấm) but it was too one note for me...IMO, it needed acid and herbs. Plus, I miss the texture of peanuts. * Bánh Khọt: Viet Mini Pancakes w/ shrimp, coconut milk batter, herbs, pickles ($24): https://tinyurl.com/34nx7sat - Served at dinner only Fav dish of the night, the savory bánh khọt was delicately crispy and slightly custardy in the center with a snappy shrimp drizzled with fragrant scallion oil. The pho, the rice plate and the bun were delicious! It's been a while since I enjoyed these dishes…read moreso much that this will now be my go to place and my recommended place for these entree. The pho was right on. Piping hot soup that didn't cool down until after you're done even on a cold day. That's just perfect for the wintery weather. The soup was so good - the right amount of aromatics and the beef flavor. And it wasn't overly oily. The amount of meat to noodle ratio was perfect, and I would even dare say I felt there was a lot of meat for a regular bowl of pho that I didn't end the pho with just noodles but had meat to go to the last bite. The rice plate, where we had pork chop with fried spring rolls was yummy! The pork chop was well seasoned that my kids ate it without complaining anything about it. Some places use black pepper and even too much of it to potentially cover up for lack of flavor or perhaps low quality meat. The fried spring rolls were delicious and not too oily either. The bun though with good amount of fresh greens was still a very filling bowl with the amount of meat, spring roll and noodles. The taste of it with the fish sauce was reminiscent of bun in Vietnam. The only thing that ok instead of being amazing was the marinated fried chicken with sauce as it was on the spicier side with the fresh chili and the marinate didn't seem to penetrate into the chicken well enough. Service was reasonably fast, but then again we were there before the restaurant filled up starting at 7pm.

It warms my heart to see that Mintleaf is still a popular staple after all these years…read more As an Alameda native, I have good memories of eating here when I was younger, and whenever I visit, I love bringing my husband here too. I wouldn't call this an authentic Vietnamese restaurant per se, more so an Asian fusion place, but Mintleaf holds its own in terms of flavor, freshness, and variety. Service has always been attentive, and while small, the restaurant is clean, cozy, and modern. There is also outdoor seating if you are bringing a dog. I have dined with my well-behaved, well-trained Siberian in the past. Recently, we were in Alameda to do my dog's birthday photoshoot in honor of my previous dog, and I wanted to go to Mintleaf again. It was later in the evening, and I saw that they close at 8 pm. We arrived around 7:20 and while the staff were starting to clean up since the restaurant was empty, they still greeted us with a smile and seated us promptly. Not long after we arrived, a small group of people also came to sit down, and they were also seated. Another individual arrived to place a to-go order. My husband went with the scallops and prawns over garlic noodles, and I went with their version of bun rieu. We did not have to wait long for our food to be brought to the table. My husband's noodles arrived first, served with their classic plating of slices of tomato and cucumber on the corners of the plate (they have done this as long as I can remember). Soon, my bun rieu arrived, including a small side of herbs. My broth was piping hot and delicious. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and while they were thinner than the usual bun rieu noodles, they still absorbed the flavor of the broth well. The cha was thinly-sliced, and there was a good amount of tofu in the bowl as well. Even though the bowl might look small, it was a perfect dinner portion, and with plenty of broth. I was definitely full after savoring each last drop of broth. My husband loved his garlic noodle dish. There was a good helping of both scallops and prawns, and the noodles were deliciously garlicky. I had a sample of the noodles and they were so good. There are other dishes I've tried in the past, such as the pad Thai and sizzling spicy lemongrass chicken, and they have both been excellent as well (sorry I have no recent photos). Mintleaf is not your usual Vietnamese restaurant, especially with its classier touch, but personally I enjoy their dishes, and will definitely return when I want an Asian fusion wrinkle to my Vietnamese food.
