We were in the mood for Thai and found this location right by our hotel. As you walk in the inside is not so large. The ambiance is simple, but it smells good. We went at lunch time but we were lucky there was one table available so we were seated right away. We were brought water and menus in about 20-30 secs. Our waiter came back in maybe 3 mins to take our order. We ordered everything at once. We were served complimentary soup, it had mushrooms and a sweet and sour flavor. It was pretty good, my wife really liked it. About 90 seconds later our crab Rangoon appetizers came out. They were smaller than most crab Rangoon's I've had but they were very good and with the portion size of the main dishes they were perfect. Our main dishes came out in 2-3 mins, everything was very fast. I had the pad Thai with chicken. They give you a spice option of 1-10, I'm not great with spice so I went with 2 and for me it was the perfect amount. I can't imagine what 10 would be, 2 was spicy enough that it made my nose run. The dish was very good though. My wife really liked hers as well. All and all with the speed, service and food, I'd give it a 4.5, but since you can only give equal numbers. I had to go with 4. This restaurant is unassuming in downtown and tucked away a bit from the city but it's well worth the food! The owners are very nice and service itself was great. I got the Thai iced tea and it was delicious!! It also came out almost immediately so it was nice to sip on it while waiting for food. I got the pad thai with tofu as my main meal and it was delicious! The portion size was perfect as well. I was full, but not stuffed from finishing the plate. I forgot how sweet pad thai was, so I don't recommend getting a sweet drink if you're getting that dish. The prices here are great too, especially for how much food costs nowadays. Tucked away on 1st Avenue, Siam Thai is easy to overlook. I came here shortly after 11 on a Monday so not busy yet. The first item they brought was the mini Tom Yum soup with mushroom. You can taste the tangy-ness, the sour and spice all at once. Next were the spring rolls, which I did enjoy the sauce and the crisp exterior (insides I wish the filling had some more texture, but the flavor was still good). The main entree was the cashew chicken, with spiciness on a scale of 6 out of 10 (they were accurate with the spice; I've known places that calibrate down depending on who orders it but they were fair). The dish was sweet and heat and spicy all at once, and everything well cooked. Finally, the Thai iced tea - definitely sweet and had the spice flavor, but just a little more of the condensed milk would have been perfect. Service was good, but then again, it just opened and I was the only one there (not many tables so might be a good idea to get in early). Delicious Thai food downtown with a pretty great location. They offer many of the classic Thai dishes with great portions and very fair prices. Tonight, I ordered the pad Thai with chicken (level 1 spice), spring rolls, and Thai iced tea. I thought the pad Thai was delicious but had a slightly strange red hue to it. The portion size is more than enough for a meal and they are generous with their meat portions as well. The chicken seems to be high quality; not too chewy. The pad Thai is not too dry nor too saucy (although I would have liked a tad more sauce). It's flavorful and definitely quite good for the price. Usually the redness means it's going to be too sweet, but I found this to have a great balance of sweetness. They have a significant amount of peanuts sprinkled around on the top. Their Thai iced tea is also quite good. Many places make their tea overly sweet, but I found this to be a bit creamier and less sweet than other Thai restaurants. Again, the price was very good for the portion (just $3) and it was still flavorful and tasty. They make some decent spring rolls, too. I wouldn't say there is anything special about them other than you are given a great portion for the price. I believe I got 5-6 for just $5.50. The inside is stuffed with primarily cabbage, some carrot, glass nooodle, and other vegetables as well. They were pretty crispy and overall decent. Served with a small container of sweet chili sauce which I enjoyed. All in all, this is a solid choice for Thai food downtown. Love Siam! The food is amazing and lunch prices are very fair. Service is fast and efficient. Everyone there is super nice. Green curry and eggplant basil are my go-to choices, and my brother loves the pad prik khing. Tom yum soup and crab rangoons (crab angel on the menu) are fantastic as well. It gets pretty busy at lunchtime so go early if you want to eat there. I tend to order a slightly lower spice level than other Thai places in the area, and it's always been consistent. First of all: I haven't had a 10/10 first-time experience in Pittsburgh in like...EVER! I ordered something very simple--eggplant basil w/ shrimp--from Grubhub and figured if I hated it (which I fully expected), it wouldn't be difficult to doctor up and make it at least palatable so that it's not a total waste. But I was SO surprised. I ordered an 8/10 spice level and it was sooooo hot! It was perfect! Other places I've tried, I'll get 8/10 as a reference and always wish I'd gotten 10/10 or I'd just conclude that 10/10 wouldn't have even been worth it. This jawn was BLAZING, just the way I like it! Rice was perfect, eggplant was delicious (despite being delivered); shrimp was plentiful and the sauce was *chef's kiss*! I'm über impressed and satisfied. I had to write this review to mark this moment in case it's a one-off or a whole mirage or something. I never write reviews, this time it is warranted. I had been a regular customer of Siam, until this one day where I placed an order could not pick it up on time because I was in a meeting , they tried calling and could not get through. After the meeting I called them and let them know I will come around 4 to pick up the order which I did since I placed it to honor the commitment I went and picked it up. I went today to collect my order that I placed in advance , they have my number up on the notice board with a note to not take orders from me. Given that I will never be going there again. It was ridiculous to me that I picked up and paid for the food that day still I was on essentially a blacklist. I had to wait 20 mjns despite ordering in advance, and given that I had not abandoned my previous order and paid for it and picked it up. Now this issue aside there was an extremely rude man at the front desk who doesn't know how to operate an apple wallet at the kiosk and was visibly upset and very very rude. I was trying to explain to him that I did pick up the food last time and he didn't want to hear any of it, the audacity is baffling. I generally never write reviews but I simply cannot stand this type of incompetence and rudeness when it is unwarranted. Was in Pittsburgh overnight for a concert and needed food asap. So I found this place on UberEats. Ordered shrimp pad Thai, chicken Thai fried rice, and 2 Thai iced teas. DELICIOUS. Like surprisingly delicious. The pad Thai had gigantic shrimp and they were cooked perfectly. The fried rice was good as well. I go back and forth between this place and a couple of others within a few blocks of my office. Siam Thai is definitely one of my favorites. The spring rolls are so freaking good! I have had some really good ones in the past but nothing beats the ones you can get here. The Thai Spicy Fried Rice and Green Curry are to die for I tell you. Wow! I went with a party of 8 including myself and are orders were placed and food was brought out to us in about 20 minutes. Besides the quick service, the food was delicious! I got the Cashew Nut chicken with white rice. I'm a baby when it comes to spicy, so I got a 0. I know, no need to rub it in. But my dish was perfect and I really enjoyed the crunch of the cashews. The spring rolls are the generic frozen kind you can buy at your grocery store. Disgusting. The crab rangoon actually had a light fishy flavor, ODD. The pad thai was reddish in color, also ODD, dry, and pretty bland. Portion/Bang for your Buck=POOR. Huge bowl of dry noodles with 4 shrimp for $13. 4 tiny spring rolls for $6, 4 crab rangoon for $6. Delivery fee of $3 to wait 2 hours, PLUS A TIP, before you find out it will take 2 hours. Horrible experience all the way 'round, just go somewhere else. read more

Man, this place defines what I think of when I talk about Mom and Pop establishments. These places don't have large dining rooms or fancy decor but their food is as good as, if not better, than the big name places. My lunch crew frequents another Thai place that will not be named here, because that isn't fair. A few days ago one of the guys, who loves spice, was going on about a little place that was more affordable but just as good. Yesterday I decided to give that place a shot, and I was not disappointed. From the moment that I walked in the door I felt as though Siam had the potential to be the type of small business that I love. It is the kind of place that you'd completely miss unless, and potentially pass by, unless someone points it out. When I walk into one of these smaller establishments I pay attention to three things. 1. How does it smell? If it smells weird, I'm out. I made the mistake of ignoring this rule once and regretted it. Siam smelled like yummy food, as it should. 2. Are there plenty of customers? We were early for lunch,but the place was already half filled. That is a good sign. 3. Was there a friendly greeter. There was! Boom! Magic was about to happen, I could feel it. Once we were seated I took a quick look at the menu to see if there was anything interesting other than my default choice. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Being that this was my first visit we decided to get some appetizers. We ordered Thai Spring Rolls and Samosas. The spring rolls were fried to perfection. Not too oily, and filled with flavor. The home-made sweet and sour sauce that came with them was an excellent addition. It was a light color like butter... sooo good. There were too many people around for me to lick the bowl... plus we were sharing and licking the bowl is against bro code when sharing. I personally love Samosas. They are missing from the menu at other place that we frequent. Siam's Samosas were so good that they may cause me to make Siam a regular spot over the other place. Like the spring rolls they were fried to perfection. The filling was perfect. The texture was soft and they were seasoned just right. Not too much, or too little. They were served with a cucumber sauce, according to the menu. It looked a lot like the sweet and sour sauce with peanuts on it. Either way, it was delicious. I may need a to-go order over the weekend. I forgot to mention, we were also given a free Crab Rangoon, bonus! The big thing with Thai places is the ability to pick your spice level. Siam has a range of 1 to 10, which is double the range that some other local places have. For some reason, I like the larger range... but this could be purely psychological. When going to a new place for the first time I tend to stick with a dish that I know I like. If they do well with that then I'll come back and branch out. When it comes to Thai, I love Pad Thai. So I ordered it at a spice level 6. My friend ordered the same dish at a level 10! Level 6 had plenty of spice, in fact I'd consider going back to a 5 next time. I'm not sure how my buddy was able to handle a 10. Thankfully they kept the water flowing. In spite of the spice, it was darn good. I couldn't stop eating. The noodles were perfectly cooked, the sauce tasted great, the portion of peanuts was perfect, and the chicken was good too! My only regret was not trying the Thai Iced Tea... Next time Siam.... Once again, another Thai restaurant in Pittsburgh doesn't disappoint. Came here before a soccer game at Heinz field and we were the only ones. The place itself is a bit hot but the food was def worth the slight inconvenience. We ended up ordering pad thai, pad kee mow, and pad see ew. We got varying spices from 3-8. All the dishes came out quickly and were amazing. One thing I will say is that I like the way they spice the dishes here. I usually get a 10 at other places but a 7 was good enough for me here.
