My girlfriend and I eat here pretty often, and I've never been disappointed. Good food, good amounts of it, and pretty reasonable prices. They have plenty of meat-free options for me, and will make dishes without fish sauce if you ask. Their tofu is always done well, too, and you usually get plenty of it. The owners and servers are friendly, helpful, and competent, and that's a big part of why we come back. It's the sort of place that makes me feel like they deserve my business, and I'm happy to give it to them. read more

My Husband and I came upon this place on a whim and were not disappointed! We started with the Fresh Rolls. They were bursting with fresh flavors and the house made bbq sauce was delicious. The Pad Thai was outstanding. I didn't find it too sweet, which can be the case at some places. The chicken in the Pad Thai was cooked perfectly and super yummy. The crispy chicken was out of this world! It was perfectly spicy and sweet. We also had this delicious shrimp and broccoli dish that my 4 year old loved (which is a small miracle). Lastly the Siam Fried Rice was way yummy! We will definitely be back. I can't wait to try the crab rangoons, chicken and cashews and pretty much everything else on the menu. What a find!!!! read more

I ordered the yellow curry with white rice as take out tonight. When I got home and opened the rice container, it wasn't white rice but instead, what appeared to be garbage- lo mein, fried rice, chunks of something mysterious, and other odds and ends all mixed together. I added a picture of it on here too. read more

Siam Ginger - The "white rice" I ordered that seemed an awful lot like lo mein, fried rice, and grill scrapings all mixed together - Thai Near Me - Somerville, Massachusetts

We love this place. The food has been consistently good for out take-outs. People are friendly which is a big plus.

A waitress that giggles with you when boyfriend has to run to the bathroom to rinse his eye out after splashing spicy (delicious) sauce?! Cozy casual setting?! Perfectly crispy, monster portion of veggie tempura (big enough to be a meal) for a measly $5!? yes, yes, DEFINITELY yes! read more

::READ ON FOR PETTING ZOO COMPARISON:: The litmus test for any Thai restaurant is (obviously) Pad Thai. When a Thai place screws up, adulterates, or otherwise shipwrecks such a perfectly simple dish, something's gotta be wrong. Sweet Ginger's Pad Thai was a weird brown color, which really isn't a terrible screw-up. But when you try to eat Pad Thai that's accompanied by a dish that tastes like petting zoo feed pellets, you're in trouble: Every food on your plate, on your date's plate, and on the plates of anyone eating within a nine-mile radius TASTES LIKE PETTING ZOO FEED PELLETS, TOO. (I'm talking about the spicy squid dish. Don't risk the appetite obliteration unless you're on some strange diet.) The two stars are only for the crab rangoon, which had a delightfully creative curry flavor. read more

I was excited to try Sweet Ginger after reading all the positive reviews, but came away abit disappointed after my first experience tonight. Ordered Pad See Iew and the much lauded Crab Rangoon. Honestly the Pad See Iew was the worst I can remember, mostly due to the fact that the entire dish was charred. Its not that the food was burned, rather it seemed as if it was cooked in a wok that hadn't been cleaned and had lots of burnt residue left over. Overall effect was every bite having this distasteful burnt flavor. The rangoon was a novel preparation with the addition of curry and pineapple sauce dipping, but I think I saw maybe 4 specks of "crab" in 5 pieces of rangoon. I'll give this place another shot, but disappointed it didn't live up to the billing, especially with Montien gone from Inman. read more

Oh. My GOD. Sweet Ginger serendipitously entered my life tonight and I am so glad it did. We literally drove around in unfamiliar territory of Somerville taking random turns until the iPhone told us some food was nearby. Stopped in for some Thai food and I kid you not, during dinner my husband goes, "So what do you think? Are you going to yelp this place?" and I was like "yeah...best Thai food everrrr." and he goes, "this is a 5 star meal if I've ever had one" and he is not a yelper. Seriously. It's so good. He had a red curry dish (the two asterisks for spiciness are not kidding. I'm sensitive to it so I order my food milder but I had a few bites of the hub's dish and my mouth was aflame). I had duck broccoli. The sauce was impeccable. A little bit of sweet mixed with that delightful umami-ness. And the duck was incredible. So tender, crisp skin. I nearly died. The crab rangoons are also astronomical - they have the kind Thai Moon in Arlington has, but even a bit better - with scallions, curry powder and peppers with the crabmeat. So much more complex and crisp than the ones at Chinese restaurants. Ok I think I've babbled enough. I am so sold on this place, though. If you haven't gone, go! Oh and can we say affordable? read more

Phenomenal, life-giving, five-star drunken noodles. They are the best drunken noodles Ive ever had. The beef satay was tender although the marinade flavors could have been a little stronger. It was still very delicious though. Menu is extensive. As previously pointed out, the service dining-in may suffer on account of the volume of takeaway orders theyre working at the time. That said service was never bad per se. Highly recommended. read more

Solid Thai food and friendly service. We sat in and ordered tom yum soup which was pretty good and I had the massaman curry while my boyfriend had the pad thai. The massman curry was stellar. Super tasty, the sauce was perfection, and it was a good portion. My boyfriend had the pad thai which was massive in size. He is a pad thai snob and rated it a 7 on 1-10 scale. He definitely scarfed it down but said it wasn't the best he's ever had. Good flavor but too much sauce was his feedback. The service was good and I knew they were legit by the Thai television they were watching and their conversations with one another. All in all, solid Thai food. We will be back. I'll be back for more curry dishes that's for sure. read more

I found my new go-to Thai place. Gave this place a tryout lunch with the basics...Thai iced tea (best one I've ever had), tom yum soup (best I've ever had) and pad thai (a bit wetter than I normally prefer, but very filling and perfectly cooked). I need to go back and try other dishes, but the tryout was passed with flying colors. Service was super friendly and quick, price is right, and interior of place is surprisingly nice. read more

First of all this has been my "go to" takeout Thai place since I moved (back) to Somerville over a year ago. However, recently I have to say I'm not impressed. The takeout curry is a skimpy portion and they don't seem to load it up with good vegetables when you order it with no meat. So, for the price the portions suck. Also, the menu is not that creative. I had Thai food in Queens NY recently that blows this place away. Much fresher ingredients and more interesting and authentic dishes. Finally, the last two times I've ordered from them they've screwed up what I was supposed to get. I live right up the street from them and when I've called and asked them to make it right I am met with a pissy attitude. The second time they messed up my order the guy taking orders hung up on me!! When I called back he told me he had another call. So, I won't be going here again if I can help it. I think more authentic and interesting Thai food can be found a short bike ride from here and I know I can get better service. read more

Ordered delivery from here. They said 45 minutes (not unreasonable). It took so long for them to deliver it, I fell asleep and consequently never got to eat said food (1 hour, 12 min). Now I'm still hangry at 6:30 am and I'm jammed up from falling asleep on the couch, hence this lovely review. Can't comment on the food as I haven't eaten it yet. read more

Love the basil fried rice. I get it every time I go and can never resist the veggie rolls. The service is always good

Are you a fan of delivery pad thai? Usually I am too but Sweet Ginger's leaves much to be desired. The pros: large portion, receptive to my special requests, and great delivery service! The cons: lacked flavor and was quite oily, leaving me with a queasy tummy. Since the edibility of the food is most important to me, I don't think I'll be ordering again anytime soon; the service earned them an extra star. read more

This place is right near where I live, so I order whenever I don't feel like cooking (aka frequently). I call for take out, and it's ready in about 15 minutes. I usually get their Pad See Ew, and my boyfriend orders Pad Thai and Crab Rangoon. They are very reliable, and the food is delicious. I am definitely a fan! read more

Got delivery on a rainy night, and the food was hot and delicious. I got the drunken noodles and it had the perfect amount of spiciness. The noodle soups were very soothing as well. As non locals, we thought it was some more than decent Thai food. read more

It's good, not anything incredible though. You can kind of taste the inauthenticity of their sauces on noodles, must be from a packet or something. However, it's definitely still good and if you're nearby I'd still recommend it if you want Thai food! read more

I have now been to Sweet Ginger twice -- once for take-out and once dining in. The food is excellent in this small, casual restaurant. The pad Thai lives up to any version I've had so far, and the basil fried rice is fresh and comforting though a bit hot on the tongue. The Thai rolls are also a good option. The food is served hot and presented well. My only complaint is the slow service on my recent dine-in experience. The restaurant was full when we arrived, so we waited about 10 minutes for a table -- understandable for a Saturday night. However, it seemed there was only one person serving the entire dining room, and it took quite a while for our food to arrive. read more

I always for get about this place yet I kinda know why. It is a pain in my butt to get to unless you have a car. It's a great little area with you food, bars, coffee houses but this is one of the gems for sure. I went my fiance and my parents one Saturday and the food was really really fresh. I'm talking pluck the chicken, shuck the corn fresh. It was well priced and very good. Now that I have a car, it should be alot easier to get to. read more

Ordered delivery from this place today, food got here in 35 minutes, and I live 2.2 miles away, so not bad at all. I got the Pad Thai and the Basil Fried Rice, and the portions were decent, as you can see in the pictures I took. Flavor wise, the fried rice was really lackluster, as I could barely taste the basil unless I was chewing on one. Compare this to the basil fried rice in other places such as Pepper Sky and it's like night and day. The Pad Thai was slightly better, but still very average. Overall, the dishes were edible and decent, but not awesome by any means. If I want Thai food again, I will definitely try out other places first. read more

Preface: I only picked up delivery here, and then enjoyed it from the comfort of my own home. It was awesome. I was on my way home from grocery shopping and I called in to order two pad thai's and a crab rangoon for my roommate date. AWESOMELY priced. $23 including tax for all that? (Dinner that night, and lunch the next day for both of us) My expectations for quality were a little low, but I was surprised. I enjoyed this pad thai more than others because of the perfect proportions. One of my main issues with asian food in the USofA is that it does not give the eater the opportunity to enjoy the subtle flavors in the cooking. Most asian food is doused in sauce that is too salty. I REALLY like the pad thai here because it wasn't too strongly flavored. Everything in it had flavor (even the tofu), but nothing was too overwhelming. It was a nice blend :) The crab rangoon was NOT what I expected at all. I was thinking of the cream cheese and fake crab meet that I normally get. This crab rangoon was like crab in curry butter, fresh made and exploding in your mouth DELICIOUS. The best part: they said it would take 15 minutes from when I called, and it actually took 15 minutes. By the time I arrived at the restaurant (just off Union Square on Bow St), the food was ready. COUNT ME IN FOR ANOTHER! read more

I picked this Thai restaurant off yelp and I wasn't disappointed one bit! It was between this and Brown Sugar but since I've already tried them so I decided to opt for this one. We went on Friday evening and it wasn't crowded. I noticed a lot of take-out orders, though. (Always a good sign!) The decor is cute/modern. Bathroom is incredibly clean is you wanted to know. (I'm a closeted germaphobe when it comes to these things.) We had ordered the curry crab rangoon, the tamarind duck, the fillet with mango salsa, and, the pad thai. It was all delicious. No complaints even from the picky eater that was with us. He loved the pad thai and said, "this is frickin' awesome!". We ordered the sticky rice (mangos weren't ripe so they weren't used) and the fried bananas for dessert. It was alright but that was ok with us. The main meal was what matters the most. We'd def. come back! read more

Yum, yum, this place is good! If you're looking for classic Thai cuisine, this is the good stuff. Pad thai is on point, spring rolls are tasty, curries/stir-fries are good, and don't forget the Thai Iced Tea! Nearly as good as it gets- Nice people there, too! read more

This is our go to thai place. There is metered and permit parking near by They deliver. The food is pretty good. We have had many of their dishes and some we love and some we just weren't sold on. We love their pad thai and usually their curry dishes. Some of the appetizers are ehh. The service is typically very good. We have had issues at times with not getting what we ordered when we order delivery, such as something missing. They will normally happily bring it to you or credit you back. read more

Really nice people and the food is above average for the area. Dumplings and green papaya salad are my favorites.

A friend and I came here the other night because she was super broke and Bloc 11 was closing. Apparently she'd only looked at the prices on the lunch menu outside because the menus reflected prices much higher than we'd originally thought. When we got up to leave (yes, she was THAT broke), the manager allowed us to order from the lunch menu!! I thought it was because business was bad--we were the only people there--but they weren't hurting for customers; a steady stream of people were coming in for take-out, and shortly after we ordered, 3 more parties came in for table service. I don't know about the dishes others have spoken about, but the Sweet & Sour stir-fry was not worth even the lunch price. The sauce was WAY too sweet, and drowned the rest of the plate. The beef was way overdone, even for a small place. Before the other parties came in, the servers were almost over-attentive, all three of them hovering over us as we looked at the menus. Honestly, I'm super happy we were able to purchase off the lunch menu because the dinner prices weren't worth it at all. Again, maybe I just got a bad dish, or maybe I'm used to better quality Thai places, but I'd have given Sweet Ginger 2 stars if they weren't so accommodating. read more

I was looking for a new Thai restaurant to try because a friend was in town and had a hankering. I found Sweet Ginger on Urbanspoon and read some good reviews, so we ventured out. Collectively, the three of us had Drunken Noodles, Pad See Ew and a Chicken, Shrimp and Peanut dish. Everything was tasty - not the best Thai I've had, but definitely good - and the service was great. The restaurant was virtually empty (I think it was a Wednesday night), and the simple and tasteful decor was calming. I will absolutely go back. Give it a try! read more

I am revisiting a prior 4-star review to offer the 5th star for the second time. My wife and I ordered tofu pad Thai, crab Rangoon, shrimp shumai, and mango sticky rice this evening. A complete knockout of a meal. I had commented previously that the pad Thai had fallen off a bit. Not so tonight. They have figured out whatever they may have done wrong in the past, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. And the tofu was awesome in it, never missed the chicken. These guys know what they are doing. Do yourself a favor- copy our order. You'll love it. read more

This is some of the best Thai food in Boston. I ordered Yum Neau and Drunken Noodles, both "hot & spicy." Spice level in the drunken noodles was spot-on; hot enough to sting, but not so hot that I had to take a time-out. The sauce was really flavorful and well-balanced. The Yum Neau came without spice at all, but I couldn't even be mad because it was so fucking good. The slices of beef were thick and indescribably tender. Again, the sauce shone--balanced, dimensional, with the occasional burst of dried citrus rind. Siam Ginger, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. read more

A favorite haunt of mine..I discovered this place last year, and I have become a regular customer. Dishes are served up quickly, quantities are generous, and prices are reasonable. And the food is VERY tasty. Certainly of of THE best Thai places around Boston. read more

My husband and I got takeout from here on Sunday. We both have a minor obsession with Thai food, and although we've had some yummy dishes at other spots in Somerville, Sweet Ginger takes the cake, as far as I'm concerned. We shared the crab Rangoon appetizer; the filling was delicious and a nice touch with the curry, the only thing that made them less than heaven for me was that I like a more substantial wrap around the filling; the super yum pineapple dipping sauce helped make up for that though! I tried the Tom Kha soup with shrimp and adored it! I've been looking for a good bowl of Tom Kha since I moved to the Boston area, and the search is over! For my main course, I got the Sweet and Spicy duck; it was a bit of a risk because I have been disappointed with rubbery duck in some Thai places in the past. NOT HERE! Not only was it spicy and tasty, but it was more duck than I could possibly consume in one sitting; a steal at $15! The meal was finished off with the best Ginger Ice Cream I've had in the area; they must use candied ginger in it or something, I could eat it by the truckload! A perfect meal, my friends!! I'LL BE BACK! read more

This place is ok... I went over a year ago and it was great! Yet, just ordered take out tonight and it has certainly gone done in quality. There are way too many thai places to compete with in the area, so Sweet Ginger Thai needs to step it up. The pad thai is completely tasteless, bland, and leaves a bad aftertaste. Also ordered crab rangoon and received something completely different, I'm assuming the golden triangle. I would recommend Lemon Thai on Highland or Rod Dee in Porter Square. read more

Kind of unpleasant to eat in since nonstop traffic and door alarms with every entrance/exit. Food better be good. turns out the food is on the sweet side which I bet they are cooking for the Western palate. Not my favorite Thai but I'd eat it (only as takeout) if it was there. read more

Got the Red Curry and Pad Thai. Best pad thai I've ever had! Extremely delicious, chicken and shrimp were cooked to perfection. I'm normally not a seafood person, but this dish was excellent! Chicken red curry was very tasty as well, wish the rice portion was a little larger, though. We also got the chicken satay which was delicious with the customary peanut sauce. Only "negative" feedback was that the smoke from the oil and food in the woks was a little powerful in the restaurant. I had a couple of coughing fits, but the food, service, and portions were so worth it! I will definitely be returning and can't wait to try more of the options on the menu! read more
