This spot was a true gem. Great selection of local beers (all cans I think with no draft) and good bar food plus some pasta and "fancier" options. Free popcorn when you sit down so you know it's going to be good. Live music started around 6 on a Saturday night with an acoustic guy playing (quite well!) the classics (think: Dylan, the Band, John Fogerty). There is nothing fussy about this place. We ate here twice while staying at the hotel. 1st time service was amazingly fast. 2nd time we had to flag someone down for our check because the daughter needed to get to bed. The jackD sauce is really good. It came with one daughter's chicken salad and she didn't use it so we ended up dipping bread and anything else in it. The taco soup tasted like chili and was a hit. The jackd chicken was also good. It was nice having the popcorn to munch on while waiting. The live music was fun to listen to. read more

Sampled a few restaurants in Tropic during a recent stay. Showdown's was the best of the lot. The Trout was solid as was the Grilled Salmon Salad (substituted the Raspberry Vinaigrette for Ranch). Super chill outdoor patio and clean welcoming indoor dining. On the night I was there, the live music started around 6:30 PM and was decent acoustic country folk. Enjoyed the Dylan cover. Good selection of beer and one of the only places I dined in Utah that served beers with an ABV higher than 5%. No complaints about the service. read more

Staying in Bryce Canyon City and disappointed in the restaurant offerings, we made the roughly 10-15 minute drive to Showdowns in Tropic. Had the half-rack ribs that were fall-off-the-bone excellent. The food at this restaurant was really good. The trout was absolutely amazing. The service was really bad though. After finishing our meal, I asked to see a dessert menu. After waiting about 20 minutes for the waitress to take our order, I ask the hostess if she could place the order for us. As soon as we got the dessert we asked for the bill. After at least another 15 minutes the waitress came back to the table to ask how the dessert was without the bill. If the service was better this place would be really phenomenal. read more

But you must definitely try their mushroom soup if you love the flavor of browned butter. Apart from the food they have excellent service! They are super friendly. If you're looking for a traditional place to listen to live music and soak in the country style vibes, this place is a must visit. This is a very casual place. If you don't get a booth for a big group it is picnic style tables that are not very comfortable but doable. We showed up around 6:00 pm as the music starts at 6:30. We were seated right away. We ordered a side of onion rings, the salmon salad and the 12 shrimp plate. The onions rings came and it was a huge plate of crispy, hot, yummy onion rings. My salmon salad was not very good. The salmon was a tiny piece of not fresh, tiny and overcooked salmon. I love balsalmic dressing but this one was meh. The shrimp plate was not very good either. The shrimp was soooo salty, I'm not sure the mashed potatoes were real and the veggies could have been good but they were cold. The music was not room loud, which was really nice and the musician was neither great nor bad. Something to listen to while eating. I am sorry to say I would not return but it was very busy and other food looked good so maybe we were just unlucky???? read more

Food is meh but really cute decor and decently responsive waitstaff. Do NOT get the salmon salad as the salmon looks suspiciously like mushed up chicken. My fault for getting seafood in the middle of Utah, I guess? This is attached to a beautiful property and outdoor seating area so I'm giving it one extra star for ambience. Visiting from California and very first time in Bryce. After a long day of hiking, we were looking for some GOOD food! When I say we found it here at Showdownds, I really mean it!! EVERYTHING was so flavorful and spot on! I had the chicken bacon alfredo with extra garlic bread! GET THE EXTRA GARLIC BREAD!! They give you 2 extra long pieces. Very disappointed in their signature dish campfire trout. Overcooked, flavorless, color and texture more like salmon. Vegetables were served Luke warm, potatoes didn't have too much taste to it at all. I took a couple of bites and asked waitress to take it off the bill. Fried fish was also over cooked. It wasn't fresh and had too much batter. Onion rings were really greasy. I wanted so bad for the food to be good because I was really hungry after a day of hiking but I went to bed hungry. Oh and the waitress charged us for the wrong food that costed more money. She changed it when I pointed it out. She was nice and pleasant.... We really enjoyed our dinner there. The atmosphere is just perfect! A nice fire pit fire and live music to boot. We ate at a similar restaurant just a few blocks down the road. Very similar menu but much better prices and atmosphere. Better service, too! Mentioning the prices, best meal prices we found anywhere in Tropic. Of course we only stayed three nights - but we compared at 4 restaurants and two were simply unreasonable (as far as we were concerned) - and that included one inside the park. I had the trout - I was able to get a take out box, my husband had a pasta dish and he also had a take out box. The overall vibe compensated for the trout being slightly overcooked . I have never had it with a mustard sauce which was different. I would not cook it that way - but it is vacation and time for something different! The popcorn brought to the table was a nice touch and no other restaurant we ate at in Tropic brought any sort of "nibbles" prior to the meal. Went very nicely with my Golden Spike beer. The music was very nice- although advertised as "country" there was a nice mix of music from 70s folk rock. Glad there was not a lot of country music. The only complaint "minor" - as the case with outdoor dining - flies- recommend some way - maybe table fans or something to keep the flies away. read more

You cannot go wrong with anything on this menu. We came back a second time during our short stay in Tropic. Our toddler devoured the penne with sauce twice (if you have a toddler you know the risks of "paste with sauce"). The brisket was some of the best I've had and the half chicken was fall off the bone and tasty as can be. We tried a few of beers and ciders and finished off our second visit here with the Chocolate Chip Cookie Mug - worth sharing with 1 or 2 others in your party.
