The place is the prime example of "the best restaurant in town" in a small town. In other words, somewhere between mediocre and awful. What is it with small town locals and their lack of demand for quality? We got the BBQ platter, which serves 2 and has all their BBQ dishes. Brisket was just slabs of fat, the ribs were chewy and gristly, the sausage tasted like it was just a Hillshire Farms warmed up. The same BBQ sauce over everything I am sure was a budget brand from the grocery store out of a squirt bottle. The sides were far too small to be shared between 2 people, which was fine with us because the potato thing was bad and the broccoli was mushy so we didn't fight over them. Even the focaccia bread was rubbery. The whole thing was basically the quality of dining at a Sizzler back in the 80's. read more

After an incredible day in Bryce, we stopped at Showdowns. The staff were friendly and prompt - and the restaurant with the aire of smoked meat. After being seated, our waitress, Kelsi greeted us with a large bowl of popcorn and ice water. (I'm a fan of popcorn - so this was a pleasant surprise) The food was tasty! I had the brisket plate with vegetables and onion rings. Brisket was moist, well smoked and flavorful. My family had the mushroom Brie soup, chicken alfredo, and buffalo wings. All were well prepared and thoroughly enjoyed. The choc-chip mug cookie was a hit with my son. Warm goodness topped with vanilla ice cream and choc sauce. Add live music (with family sing along - sorry to those close to us) and it went from a great meal to a wonderful experience. read more

We ate here during our trip to Bryce Canyon. This is a park area, so options are kind of limited, and this was a nice surprise. Arrived early just as they opened & were seated right away. We opted to sit outside. There is a fire pit & some games if you have to wait for a table. Our meals were very good (half roasted chicken & southwest pasta) and portions were large. Food was pretty good. I really liked my burger. They piled on the lettuce, tomato, onions. The service was a little slow and not very attentive. I saw when our food was set on the counter and it set for about 5 minutes before they brought it out. It wasn't that busy, I thought and they had plenty of servers. Free popcorn and a guy was playing live music. He was good. My butt was sore from sitting on the bench seat for so long waiting for my food. I may go back. We'll see read more

They give you complimentary popcorn to start the meal and we both got bacon jam burgers which were so good! Great extra touches You gotta love it when as soon as you sit down, someone brings you popcorn. At least I loved it as well as my family. The restaurant was still open when we arrived in Tropic, many others were closing, and it was within walking distance from our hotel. When we arrived there was a singer in the main dining area, but most if not all of the customers were sitting outside on a beautiful evening. We could still enjoy the music as we relaxed after a long day of vacationing. Their menu had variety, not just steak and burgers, and I took advantage of that to order their Alfredo Pasta with vegetables under their Showdowns Favorites, penne noodles and various veggies in a sauce. While not as good as I had hoped, it was still not bad. Service was fine, started off a bit businesslike but warmed as the visit progressed. I think the food took about 20 minutes, but we did have that popcorn to keep us happy. After we ate my granddaughter made her way over to their fire pit to roast some marshmallows, and had a wonderful time. Free popcorn to start, free marshmallows to end, everyone else enjoyed their food maybe more than I did. An excellent visit with smiles all around, definitely worth 5 stars to me. read more

My "full rack" of ribs came with 5 full bones. Pigs have 28 ribs - so a full rack is 14...not 5. Have never seen this fraudulent menu advertising before at a restaurant. This was absolutely the best food we've had on our 2 week national park road trip. We went two nights in a row. I had the oven roasted chicken dinner both nights. My partner had the steak on night one and ribs on the second night. There isn't a single thing I would improve about this place. Loved the ambience, the prices are great, the location makes it convenient. Lots of parking. Showdown is the kind of place that you never forget and wish it was closer to home so you could have it more often. The wait staff was so nice and the music was good. Food came out within a reasonable time and the popcorn for the table is a great touch. Sorry to take off and miss out on more great food at this place. We waited a long time to place our order and then again to pay our bill. No one ever cleared our table. The music was nice - very enjoyable to listen to the guitarist. The free popcorn was a nice touch also. SAFETY ISSUE: The rock stairs are too uneven and the railing is not sturdy. It is literally a branch which bends if you use it for support.
