New ownership and the sushi shows. Prices increased which is expected due to inflation. I get that, but sushi pieces are smaller and not particularly fresh. Even the shaved radish portion was tiny. Waitress forgot to include ginger and wasabi and had to be reminded. The best part was the seasoned rice. I think if the restaurant wants to keep their former customers, they have to at least match and quality and quantity of the previous ownership. Otherwise, being cheap on the portion size can only lose their customers. Not sure I will go back. There are other sushi options in the area. This is a "generous" 3-star review, but really more like 2.5, sorry to say. read more

Flaming Dragon Shogun These rolls are to die for. I can't even begin to explain the layers of taste in both of these rolls. The flaming dragon has a unique taste I've never had with sushi since its actually on fire!...I'd give this guy 10 stars if I could. Actually I gave them a $100 bill for two rolls they were that good. Job well done!...We are losing so many quality people so when I run into someone that actually cares about what they do I always try to show them my appreciation. This guy is one of those guys. We just drove by and the restaurant is closed. 7:45 Friday June 25th. The hours show open till 9. Tried to call and no one answered. Not sure what's going on but Might want to call first. Bummed. I empathize since I also work for a company that has trouble getting hourly employees to work and don't appreciate the free handouts and high taxes from our government that people seem to be spending on iphones and new cars. a day of reckoning is coming - that's for sure. We checked your hours on yelp, we drove to your restaurant, and we called while we were there. Yelp showed you open there was no sign explaining the closure, and also nothing on the phone message that made it seem like you were open but just busy. Instead of explaining why you were open and how I should change my review, I suggest you take more proactive steps to make prospective customers aware of the status - this is the way you can help your restaurant keep the high rating and preserve your good customers business. Especially with the extra $300 bonus each week.   Currently we are short a Sushi Chef, 2 front of house, and 1 in the back.  They only seem to want to come in when it suites them and we haven't been able to find anyone to take their places.  For that reason we've only been able to open the doors when we have enough staff to make your visit pleasurable.  Otherwise we open and we receive 1 star reviews that we would deserve.   Like you suggested, I recommend that you call before you come to be sure that we're open.  We will ALWAYS answer the phone during business hours.  If you receive an answering machine it means we were unable to properly staff the restaurant again.  I'm shooting for an opening again tomorrow night, I hope we see you then! Shogun Sushi is a Hidden Gem! We almost passed it up when we drove up and we are thrilled that we decided to give it a try. Inside is clean and peacefully hip! The menu has a big variety of choices. We came here around 1pm and it was already getting busy. The host was really nice and cleaned the table for us. Then I realized he was the server when he came back with our menus. The restaurant was kinda small but clean. We ordered a California, Dragon and Caterpillar roll. I wasn't really that hungry at first, but after my bite of the caterpillar... it was so delicious! I ate the entire thang. It was made different compared to other sushi places I've ate. They had green onions on top which I normally don't eat, but I couldn't even taste it. There was also mango sauce on it which I never had either. But I really liked it. The dragon roll was pretty good too. My daughter ate the CA roll and no complains there.. even though she's only two! She enjoyed it. As we were eating, the server, who started out to be the host became the bus boy as well. He was the only person working and he had about 8 tables during the entire time we were there. He provided the best service for a one man team. Other places that are busy and have more help can't even compare. He was nice and calm. I felt bad for him because I would be overwhelmed, but he did an amazing job. Sushi was amazing. Thank you for the wonderful Spring roll and all it's flavor. The Love Roll which was suggested great flavor and well balanced. MIA roll also suggested did not disappoint the lemon was a great touch. The flavors were so different from almost all other sushi places we have ever been to which is a lot from Sacramento to Fairfield. Really glad to see that this place has improved and there seems to be a Carmichael following. Went here for lunch with some coworkers and watched as the restaurant filled up (a great sign). Got a few rolls to share, miso soup, gyoza, and edamame (free with Yelp check in). Rolls were pretty good, but pricey. This place doesn't have happy hour, half off rolls, or roll specials for that matter. The only lunch special is on teriyaki or a bento box. Why no sushi specials or happy hour at a sushi restaurant? It baffles me (and my staff) who all would actually come in more frequently instead of driving to Silver Sake to find more affordable sushi eats. Edamame and miso were great. Gyoza was greasy - won't order that again. Service was decent, but I wouldn't say it was the friendliest. More of a what-do-you-want-now-here-it-is kind of attitude. We got what we needed fairly quickly and efficiently, but the welcome feel you expect wasn't there. Either way, a definite improvement from previous visits. read more

I came here with a Groupon and was a little disappointed. The service was good but their prices seem to be pretty high so with the groupon we could only get 2 items when normally I can get 3-4 with one Groupon... I am a groupon sushi lover.. But I will say the food was good and did have good flavor but the menu is a little confusing to read when trying to figure out what is in the rolls. All in All it is a decent sushi place we went when it was slow and got very good service. We did not have to wait. But the sushi bar bench thing is a bit awkward to get into as well as a bit uncomfortable. I would say give it a try and decide for yourself. read more

And I was right! You can truly taste the difference in how fresh their ingredients are compared to other places (Sorry Mikuni and Southpaw). Every time we have been there, the food is phenomenal. The spicy garlic edamame (don't worry it's not super spicy just really flavorful) and the agedashi tofu are must haves (the sauce that comes with the tofu is great). We found this wonderful spot after trying another local restaurant across the street. I checked some reviews on Yelp the next day which were almost all superlatives. That typically is frightening, but bravery ensued. My brother, sister, wife and I focused on three fantastic rolls: The Tokyo, The TnA, and the Dynamite roll along with salmon teriyaki. First of all, the salmon was grilled, with the sauce on the side, not drowning in it. This allowed us to taste the quality of the fish itself, and add some homemade sauce as we liked. Also, the tempura is only lightly battered and while a wee bit greasy, oh so crisp and scrumptious. The quality of the ingredients is apparent in all they make and so good we went back this afternoon for lunch. Our kids had the chicken teriyaki bowls and the Ronin roll. The chicken, like the salmon is grilled separately from the sauce, allowing you to savor the meat and dunk in the homemade goodness as you like. I typically don't order rolls, to stay away from rice, but did try the wife's roll. The sexy salmon was also delicious. Nice size peices of salmon filled with yummy crab mix. And the micro greens gave it a nice freshness. Dancing shrimp was a food warm bite of shrimp baked atop the yummy crab mix. I also ordered two pieces of tuna nigiri and the tuna was great, I should have gotten sashimi. We then added a super hot roll, I'm not big on deep fried rolls but this was actually really good too. This Japanese Restaurant has the best sushi and sashimi in the Fair Oaks Area. I enjoy sitting at the bar and watching the chefs make all the rolls and other raw dishes. They are friendly and make good conversation. The servers are equally hospitable and set a nice pace for a memorable dining experience.
