May 2025 - buy 2 rolls get one free !

My go to spot - now buy 2 rolls get one free! Love the tofu agedashi. Service is always great!

    Sakura Island

They have an incredible 20% off deal before 4 PM but even without these deals, they have quite affordable prices for both their sushi and bento boxes! The space is quite cozy with a main room and a side room that has a separate detached AC unit; however, note that it can become quite hot during the summers. Their menu is expansive and ordering a sushi roll can be quite daunting given the number of options. We chose the Sakura Ilsand given that it is wrapped in cucumber instead of rice and was a nice change of pace! The staff are very friendly and continuously checked up on us. The only complaint I would make (but I'm not sure if this is the restaurant's fault) is that the water had a weird detergent-like aftertaste.

We wanted to try out a new sushi spot & saw this one was close to home, when we arrived turns out they have a lunch special & a check on offer as well for a complimentary starter (gyoza or edemame). We ordered the mozzarella, garlic salmon, pineapple tree and mushed off with the mango sunshine. I was hesitant about the garlic salmon being too spicy with the jalapeño but as someone with a low spicy tolerance, you can barely tell it's there. It's also a great spot if you're needing a quick lunch!

Four roles with two that are half the size of the others. Wow Roll Spicy Crispy Roll
    Noah P.

The roles use to be full size. However, the last time we ordered, they sent us two half roles which made no sense why they did that. One piece of the spicy was eaten by us, but you can see how it was still shorter even with the missing piece. Do better.

I ordered the crazy and Gozilla roll. Both were very good. It was just enough to fill me for a late lunch price range is average. The spicy sauce on top was perfect. I plan to order again soon.

Nothing tasted fresh. In fact, the pepper fin tasted thawed. First and last time here due to the dirt alone. The entire place just looks 3rd world dirty. Flies everywhere, hello caked grime on the tables. Kitchen looks gross. The girl serving us was great. She was doing it alone at happy hour. There are cleaner and fresher sushi places all over.

Pricey, but good service and tasty rolls. Relaxed atmosphere, nice and cozy hole in the wall.

However, this city in general has always lacked a brewery/taphouse is everything is in surrounding areas such as Rancho Cordova and Folsom. This brings us to "DarkHeart Brewing". Their original location which was at Auburn Blvd and near the I-80 interchange opened in mid-2019 and unfortunately had to close (due to rising rent costs) in early-2024. Jump forward to late-2024 and the Citrus Heights location finally opened its doors for business. This location is directly at the corner of Auburn Blvd/Old Auburn Rd where a Goodwill store once stood for many years. The exterior parking lot is shared with another very popular small business, "Ciro's Pizza Cafe". I arrived here during the evening of Friday 1/31/2025 at around 6:30pm. Parking can fill up fast; however there is more parking towards the Auburn Blvd side just in case you can't find a spot. Upon entering the establishment, I was blown away with how cozy this place was. Their trademark is that of a pirate ship complete with warships, buccaneers, skull & bones, hooks, and treasures. The attention to detail was well executed and laid out. What I particularly liked is that this location is arguably a lot smaller but that provides a more cozy and intimate experience. They offer large tables for bigger parties, a TV for viewing games, and an area where you can purchase their merchandise. Best of all, you can order your pizza next door (at Ciro's) and enjoy it with your beer which is a winning combination. Since it was my first time here, I went with a simple pilsner which is their "American Pilsner" (5.7% ABV) priced at a very reasonable $7 for a pint. Many of the beer names are inspired by pirate names/ships. They offer a fairly decent selection of pilsners, stouts, IPA's, and fruit choices for every palette. During the time I stayed, I felt right at home enjoying my beer. I also wanted to add that in the coming months, they plan on opening their outdoor patio. Additionally, they offer trivia night every Thursday. And the hours of operation are still in its early stages being open Wed-Fri 4-9pm, Sat 2-9pm, Sun 12-5pm, and closed Mon/Tue. With the close proximity to my home, excellent beer selection, great interior space, and above average service, I am giving "DarkHeart Brewing" a unanimous five stars.

I say that because when I entered I thought I was coming into a small little brewery but was suprised to find a pretty big place. Not only does it have the a bunch of seating areas to the side but they have a large open space in the back. Of course it was a cloudly day so we opted to stay inside. This place has a nice vibe with different seating areas and smaller areas if you want to stay away from the crowd. They also have some single seats and an area with a bunch of different games. We didn't get too much interaction after we served our drinks but it was a good interaction and means we were able to get our drinks real quick. Drinks: I ended up getting the coffee stout made from Kingdom Coffee Roaster beans and was suprised about how light it was. I couldn't resist once I actually tasted it. While not a dark rich stout it still had a creamy light finish and honestly was something that I would order again. Defintely a place worth checking out if breweries are your thing!

The restaurant was decorated festively and looked out on the brightly lit tree in the renovated Fair Oaks Village square. Most of the tables were full, but our party of two was promptly seated. As the owner whisked between tables taking orders, delivering food and chatting with the customers we perused the menu that is largely Italian classics mixed with flavors and methods from Peru and some Spanish tapas standards. The unique menu is a roadmap to the owner's life story, a Peruvian with an Italian grandfather and a passion for food and gatherings, trained in Spanish restaurants in the Bay Area. We enjoyed a cheese fondue to start (neither Italian nor Peruvian but delicious), then we shared a special of Italian noodles with steak bites in a cheesy sauce with aji pepper. It was so unique and truly delicious we nearly licked the plate clean! For dessert we shared a tiramisu. It was wonderful. The sponge was neither too dry nor soggy, the cream had wonderful flavor and it was the perfect amount to share. The dining room is made up of small tables with couples and friends quietly enjoying their meals and conversations. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly bartender by the name of Ronny. Our first round consisted of two dirty martinis (my new drink of choice), which Ronny put his fist (that's a good thing) into making. One of the things that I love about dive bars is the various demographics that usually frequent them (along with their interesting conversations). For our second round we ordered a "Manmosa (yes I know that sounds ridiculously machismo in 2024)" that Ronny insisted on putting a fruity spin on. Not only were we thankful for his suggestion, but his version was GOOD! In real dive bar-like fashion, Ronny provided us both with an extra cup to house the remainder of the Manmosa that could not fit into our glasses (another dive bar perk). As we sat at the bar, my wife and chatted while lightly watching the movie Step Brothers on one of the televisions. Although it was a fairly slow Saturday afternoon, I can imagine that this place gets pretty lively in the latter part of the night though. We observed lots of seating, games, and an area for karaoke (toasted karaoke is the best!). I highly recommend The Blind Pig if you're looking to have deliciously strong drinks at a price that won't have you waking up the next morning rethinking the decisions that you made the previous night!
