Our order was ready in 15 mins and tasted just as good sitting on our couch as it would have in the restaurant. The cherry blossom was a fun play on your typical sushi roll - not too spicy and the fried potato sticks added a nice crunch. The chicken fried rice comes with a whole chicken breast on top, so it's definitely enough to split if you get a roll to go with it! We are in Ft Wayne for the weekend, and looking for a restaurant near our hotel - and we sure are glad that we chose Shoccu! The music was playing softly in the background, not blaring til it's hard for us older folk to gear conversation, and the whole atmosphere was relaxing. Service was excellent and our server very sweet. She kept oyr waters filled and quickly noticed every need, but did not hover nor intrude. My hubby got the Bulgoki Beef with rice and broccoli, and I got the Bibimbap in Hot Stone Bowl with Bulgoki Beef. Both were delicious! The sauces were absolutely delectable! Portions were generous and the food perfect. Initially, I felt the bibimbap could use a bit more flavor, but when i asked for an extrasauce, they brought it happily - and just an extra half sauce made it perfect! First time trying Shoccu and I loved the sushi! The sushi was very fresh and tasty. We started with the vegetable tempura. The tempura was pretty since with little flavor as you would expect. The batter was thicker than I normally remember and I loved it. The combination of sweet potato, onions and zucchini was light and refreshing. The waitress brought us an extra cup of sauce as the one was just to small. My wife had the spicy California roll and tempura shrimp roll. Both were very tasty. The tempura roll had an excellent presentation with a nice amount of crunch and shrimp. The drizzle was very flavorful. I had the octopus and raw shrimp Nigiri. I was impressed by the freshness of both. The octopus is always chewy but had a nice seafood taste. The rice was nicely compacted and didn't fall all over the place. I also had the Crunch Munch Roll. I loved the crunchiness. As a treat...the chef prepare the shrimp heads from the shrimp Nigiri. This might seem disgusting. However they had a nice tempura crunch with a slight shrimp flavor. I didn't expect this treat. Nicely done!! The facility is well decorated and clean. The staff is very friendly. I really like all the wood interiors. You can watch the sushi chefs do their thing behind the counter. The outdoor patio looks inviting too. On the down side I felt a little rushed by our waitress. Her service was good...just felt like we were being pushed when we wanted to relax and enjoy the meal out. I was also taken aback by how small the lobby area is. As we exited the small lobby-aisle was packed with 3 people making it very difficult to walk out. Felt uncomfortable in this Covid day and age. I was also a bit shocked that take out orders were lined up on a table at the lobby/host desk. It seemed odd that prepared food orders would be located so close to in and out going patrons. I met a friend for lunch who happens to live on the SW side of the city. This was my first chance to try this place. At first glance, it was clean and bright with several windows letting in natural sunlight. I didn't notice a specific lunch menu, so I went with a side salad and Corona Roll. There was only one server taking care of a pretty busy lunch hour as well as answering the phone for take out. It took close to 15 minutes to get a side salad with ginger dressing. That means I was still eatting when the roll arrived. The sushi roll was delicious and would certainly order it again. Overall, the menu looked great and I would like to come back for dinner. I'm hoping to try a few different items next time. If they're as good as lunch and service improves, I might tack on another star. read more

This restaurant has a great small vibe with a clean look and modern touches! Came here for what Yelp identified as Korean food restaurant. I would say that it is more Japanese Sushi with just a few Korean offerings. Mealtime was during lunch and the restaurant had 3 tables occupied. Server was attentive yet not very knowledgeable on the menu. Asked for the lunch specials and she simply pointed to a chalkboard up close to the ceiling. No price listed...seemed strange, so I asked and she said "I think it is $19.99". So I opted for the Beef Bulgoki with vegetables and white rice, served on a hot cast iron skillet with shredded cabbage for a base also with the meal came a side salad with ginger dressing. The rice was excellent....the balance of the dish norm so much. The marinade was rather bland and tasteless and the beef tased on the edge of being spoiled. Overall not please with the meal. Service was attentive and the meal was served quickly. Price of the dish was $15.99. The portion size seemed right, but i would have preferred a lunch special with a smaller portion and a lower price. None the less, the funky smell and taste of the dish was off putting. This is a really good place to get some above average sushi. It is not overly expensive, the portions are nice sized and the menu is somewhat inventive though as others have said, some similarities to Naked Chopsticks. The service left a little to be desired, but it wouldn't stop me from coming back. The tuna crispy rice was really outstanding and beautifully presented. Get this. Their shrimp and vegetable tempura was good, light batter, not too oily and tasty. The steamed buns were good, not great. If you ever had Naked Tchopstix sushi then this place is VERY similar to it. The service was alright. They were pretty slow and we had to wait for awhile to get our drinks and order. Been here a few times and we might be the only one there yet.... it takes a loooong time to get any service. The sushi looks good however, I don't think it tastes as good as it looks. Usually what I want in my sushi is the fresh taste of the fish and of course some great sauce on top of it. I think shoccu puts too many odd sauces on their sushi that it makes the sushi... tastes really odd. I forgot which roll it was but it was just a weird combination. I'm not sure if they're trying to create exotic rolls but they def need to work on it. Maybe I've tried too many sushi places that my expectations are high. But this place isn't too bad. Others will think it's great but this is just my opinion. I'd recommend trying other sushi places in ft Wayne before eating here such as Asakusa. read more

One of my usual lunch spots. I hadn't been back since the Covid-19 outbreak. The restaurant seems to be doing some social distancing. They still have the same amount of tables but are spreading people out. I decided to sit outside. My server was Phoenix who has served me many times before. The service is very good there and polite. He is very knowledgeable of the menu and makes sure my glass stays full. They do a daily lunch special which is not posted on the menu. It is either a soup or salad, one entree, and one sushi roll for $11.99. I usually get this with a salad, General Tso's,chicken, and a Salmon roll. For this trip I got the daily special which is any two specialty rolls, soup, and salad for $14.99. I ordered the Rainbow roll and Playboy roll. They both were very good. The playboy roll had a little too much sauce or otherwise I would give this place 5 stars. read more

Shoccu just rocks. It's one of those restaurants that hit right in that sweet spot where aesthetics, food quality, portion size and price all intersect making for a very pleasing culinary tummy-rub. In addition, It's nice to have this establishment out here in SWAC where to put simply, within this area, its Salvatori's or fucking starve. Wife and I got down with the Tuesday Sushi Special (3 specialty rolls for $25(great weekly specials throughout the week)) where the star of the show was the Playboy Roll...and yes, they light the roll on fire at your table making for that awkward feeling you get when people make guacamole table-side (is that still a thing?). But damn! Regardless of the theatrics I'll kill that shit all day... set me on fire for that shit...Smokey, sweet, spicy, crunchy... One of the best rolls I've ever had. The supporting cast was nothing to bat an eye at either...the "Crunch-Munch" and the "Corona" rolls were both exceptional. Oh, and they do bomb-ass Seoul Bowls here too...Great healthy options here for your fatness. Ambiance is clean, casual with a really nice outdoor patio overlooking the back of S&V liquors. Shoccu also has a humble craft beer selection available along with wine...and evidently some cheesecake that is apparently the shit. I see myself hitting this spot at least once a week. Decor was lovely. Service was good but slow considering there was only one other occupied table in the restaurant. Ordered fried dumplings ($6) which were surprisingly deep fried rather than pan fried like most other places. And, I'll admit pan fried is better because the outside of these was chewy. Dipping sauce was rich and complex, tasting of chili, bean paste and some other flavors I couldn't pick out. Dumplings were larger than at most places so that was a plus. Overall though, Ichiban is THE SPOT to visit to get ur dumpling fix! Ordered Veggie Fried Rice ($9) that took ffoorreevverrr! On the flip side, at least I know it's made to order . Upon arrival, it looks colorful, fresh and light. Upon tasting, it was OK but definitely looked better than it tasted. It was a lil meh. And who adds lima beans to fried rice?! That's a crime in and of itself. I even tried adding the sauce from my dumplings which helped... but not much. Ft Wayne is getting some really trendy and well designed restaurants and this is one of them.... But I wouldn't return unless it was to check out their sushi. read more

Not quite five stars, but still a good experience! You can find Shoccu near Max Fitness in a strip mall near the corner of Illinois and Scott. It's easy to miss, so be on the lookout! The restaurant is smaller but has quite a few tables for seating. Service wasn't fantastic, but the food made up for it. I stopped in on a Tuesday evening for dinner and they weren't very busy. It was a chilly evening but the restaurant definitely felt cold. They offer beer and wine, but we opted out for the evening. First we got our soup and salad. I liked that each roll came with one of the two, as that isn't always the case. The salad had a cream wasabi dressing and I was a big fan of that! We ordered three different rolls to share for the two us: cherry blossom, corona, and sunset. They were all very tasty and came out with a beautiful presentation! read more

Tried this place after seeing it a few months ago. It wasn't busy at all for a Friday night & I hope that changes because this place was AMAZING. They have lots of different food, but we went with sushi! Tried an appetizer, toast & jam, which was so tasty! It was crispy rice with spicy Tuna on top & lots of spicy sauces in the middle. After that, I knew we were off to a good start. Tried 4 different sushi rolls - was very impressed with their selection. They have a lot of different rolls than you would see at your typical sushi place - some with apples in them & even pop rocks! I really hope people start finding out about this place, so that they can stay in business. The staff & service was great, the vibe was very LA, and the food was awesome! Highly recommend! I tried Shoccu over the weekend during their participation in Savor Fort Wayne. I am always game to try a new sushi restaurant and their menu deal was the perfect opportunity to get the biggest bang for my buck. I can say the experience did not start off on the right foot. I called ahead and was quoted 15-20 minutes by who I believe was the owner. When we arrived and slid through the small crowd by the door we were given some pretty nasty looks. After we reached the hostess stand I saw who I had talked with and he said they were clearing some tables. My boyfriend and I were rudely talked to by some others who were upset they weren't smart enough to call ahead and said they had been waiting. Not my fault. So I was instantly ticked when a few couples then went up to the host stand demanding to be sat before us. I didn't attest and chalked it up as a "whatever." We were seated after about 10 minutes to a small two top I spotted empty and set since we had walked in....not my job to find the open tables but the owner seemed happy I noticed and said we could sit there. Took almost 10 minutes to have menus dropped off then a few more to get our drink order. We both ordered water and two cabernets. Not a huge fan of their house cab but the pour was generous. With the Savor menu we ordered the pot stickers as our appetizers. WOW. Loved every last bite of them. The sauce was spectacular. Seriously. I need it bottled and for sale somewhere so I can enjoy it at home. Next course we chose the Corona and Sunet roll off the Savor menu and added the Shrimp Tempura. The rolls took longer than expected but had beautiful presentation and flavor. I wasn't crazy about the lime flavor of the Corona roll but absolutely loved the Sunset and Shrimp Tempura. Their Shrimp Tempura had lettuce in it as well which added a great crunch. Note: Rolls are very heavy on the rice. Pros and cons. More filling but less of the "good" stuff. Our server apologized several times throughout the service. I am cutting them some slack since they are brand new and it was pretty ballsy to do Savor Fort Wayne when you are still working out the kinks. Atmosphere was chic and I love being able to see all the sushi rollin action go down. I will be back but definitely during a weekday or weeknight to avoid another disastrous start to a date night. 4 stars is being based solely off the food. Pretty solid dining experience! Just to note: The restaurant is easy to miss as it is tucked back in a building strip behind some other building and is not easily seen from the road. The place was really dead for a Saturday evening, which was made us skeptical, however our concerns quickly diminished. The menu has a great selection of sushi and other Asian dishes. The specialty rolls were very Americanized but were delicious, especially the Cherry Blossom, Playboy roll (which is flambeed tableside) and the Maui roll. The presentation was stunning! The specialty rolls come with soup or salad option, both choices were tasty. I appreciated the craft beer options along with typical domestic options available as well. Everything was basically fine , food , atmosphere, COVID protocols . My only pet peeve is getting dinner on top of the appetizer.....especially when you tell them specifically to not do that . Trying to have a slow, relaxing dinner, barely started appetizer (sushi ) and boom here stands the waitress with two hot plates in her hands . Very nice place with really good sushi. We got the corona roll, salmon and avocado roll, and the asparagus roll. All were delicious, but my favorite was the corona roll. It had a nice amount of heat and the flavors worked together exceptionally well. Great environment for anything from a date night to family time! Intimate setting but not claustrophobic. Since it was a gorgeous spring evening we wanted to eat outdoors and decided to try this place. It turns out there is no shade on the patio aside from the umbrellas over the tables. We were able to sit at the second row of tables in from the west so were shaded adequately by the umbrellas in the first row. Our drinks arrived quickly while we perused the menu. I went with a crunch munch sushi roll which was delicious. Husband had the teriyaki chicken salad. Loads of chicken and two dressings to choose from. He said it was delicious and I snatched piece of chicken and agree. Leftover chicken came home with us. Definitely recommend, and we will return. read more
