Out of many Asian establishments out here, I would have to say they have one of the best that really reminds me of back home, or the west coast! This place is definitely known for their pho, but I got it because I'm a pho lover. It was ok. I got the crispy pork belly and rice and it was delicious, I also had the bahn mi here and it was ok. The wonton soup here is really good! What really stole the show for me was their roasted duck! It was so delicious, some areas where slightly dry because maybe I came near closing, but it's ok, the flavor and other areas of texture made up for it. If you're from Cali out here in Fort Wayne and you love some authentic Chinese food, west coast grille is your place! The service here is amazing, the staff is friendly and they know me now! The place is huge and many seating, I love the inside. The parking is a little bit on the harder side because you park on the side streets.

Great place for authentic Asian cuisine. Very authentic roast duck. We tried the smoothies, and the avocado smoothie was the best as it used real fruit. The others were too sweet and used canned fruit. Also, the price was too high for a smoothie that wasn't awesome. Still, it wasn't bad. Next time, we'll try more of the food.

Stumbled into West Coast Grille after another restaurant nearby was closed. But this was definitely a happy misfortune! You can find the restaurant not far off the corner Calhoun and Creighton in the 07'. The atmosphere is nothing spectacular, but the food and service makes up for it. It is lunch room style so you order at the counter and they bring it to your table. There is a number of booths and tables in the dining area to make yourself comfortable. I was a big fan of the throwback 90's music playing in the background! The man at the counter was happy to see us. He greeted our group with a smile and was truly appreciative for our business. He asked if he had been before and was willing to answer any questions we had about the menu. They had a variety of options from noodles to fried rice bowls and even bubble tea. I decided to order the Japanese pan noodles with chicken. This was a fantastic choice. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the dish had great flavor. I was also able to try one of the egg rolls and they were large and tasted fantastic. Our entire group was happy with the quality and service. Overall this was a great dining experience and I will definitely be returning!

    Pork Belly Udon Bowl

I had gotten into the habit of going to the West Coast Grille's Glenbrook Mall location almost every week and counted it as an unsung gem hiding away in a most unusual place. So it was quite a shock when, upon entering the food court several months ago, I beheld that their sign was gone and their outlet empty. They had closed. I almost cried. The Calhoun location, in my previous experience, had occasionally been equally delicious, but less consistently so. It's also much farther from my house, so, after the mall location's closure, I hadn't made it back until yesterday. And I'm glad I did because it was so, so good and has readily re-awakened my cravings. I recognized the woman behind the counter from the Glenbrook location, and, even after nearly a year, she recognized me as well AND remembered my regular order. Now, to get into food. I honestly haven't tried that many things here, though I assume they are all at least good, if not, very good. I honed in on what I wanted pretty quick, and it's the only thing I would comfortably recommend. That is the Pork Belly Udon Bowl. This magnificent dish is very similar to vietnamese Bun, except that instead of vermicelli noodles it contains much thicker, flavor absorbing, pan-fried udon noodles. A sweet, sesame ginger dressing is used instead of the typical fish sauce. And it's topped with pickled radish/carrots, shallots, cucumbers, lettuce, basil and bean sprouts. On top of all that is some of the crispiest, fattiest, most succulent pork belly you can get in Ft. Wayne. All of this for just $7! And very filling to boot. I have tried their whole Crispy Duck on a couple occasions. It's quite tasty, and I'm sure the duck would make an excellent substitution if you aren't into the pork belly option. The only appetizer item I've tried are the cream cheese wraps. They are basically like crab-rangoon minus the crab and plus a lot of garlic. They're certainly munchable, but nothing particularly special. I've also had a few of their bubble teas and smoothies. My favorite is a green tea bubble tea, blended (which you have to request or otherwise it will come out as a regular bubble tea.) In short, this isn't really a review for this restaurant as a whole so much as it is a massive recommendation to go try that Pork Belly Udon Bowl. It's an amazing value for one of the best plates in the city.

On this occasion we occupied the large group room. The room was cozy and allowed our party to have an intimate room to ourselves. The staff here was very friendly and helpful. There was plenty of help to serve our larger group. They were a bit slow...but allowed us to pace ourselves and enjoy the fellowship. I was impressed that they hustled a child's order ahead of the adults food to keep them satisfied. I didn't see the waiters come back through much after the food was served. On this trip I ordered the steak teriyaki bento box. The box is a bit expensive compared to Other places. However the sinking atmosphere, location, quality and volume...justify the price in my mind. The box came with a cup of miso soup. The soup was tasty and a lot like you would expect for a Japanese restaurant. It did not come with a salad as many other places might. The box was stuffed with food! The steak es piled high and excellent! It was very tender and moist. It had a nice teriyaki flavor marinated in the meat. There were two crab Rangoon pieces and two egg rolls. Normally you would only expect one of each. The crab Rangoon wrapper was cooked so that it was a bit oily and the wrapper was mushy. The filling was plentiful. However I felt like the filling was lacking on crab taste and overpowering on cream cheese. The egg Roll wrappers were a bit more crispy without being too crispy. The wrapper was a bit greasy to taste. I found the filling...while fresh...to be a little mushy as well. There were five pieces of a California roll included. That was a lot of sushi to eat as well. The roll was tasty. It was put together nicely and gave you a good taste of each ingredient.

I know I walked out of there extremely full, knowing I would return. However, the best part of the evening? It was undoubtedly the service that I received from my server. A mom of several kids, we talked about the challenges of balancing school and activity schedules with work hours required by her employer. In particular, we discussed one of her daughters, who is apparently an avid golfer despite the responsibilities of tending to her other tables. And she handled that with a smile and with grace. As I was in Ft. Wayne on a golf-related matter, I keyed in on this part of the conversation. Again, it was extremely friendly to meet someone so pleasant. Back to the food - again, it was excellent. And I will be honest, I ate more than I should have! The restaurant is in a small strip mall, but it is well-maintained at the time of my visit. For photos, I suggest that you Google the restaurant - there is an extensive selection. This also applies to the menu. Many, many choices, and they all look great.

Spring Roll - $7 - This we got I think on a Wednesday night, because if you spent so much money you get a free spring roll appetizer. It was ok, but I wouldn't have paid money for it. 3/5 stars. Vegetables and Tofu $14, Chicken $16, Beef $17, and Shrimp $18 We had the Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, and Pad See-Ew. The Pad Thai had the best flavor, and then the Pad See-Ew, and I really can't recommend the Drunken Noodles. We got the Drunken Noodles medium spicy and the other two mild, but I couldn't taste any spice in them. I really wouldn't recommend getting the noodles here, but if you had to pick one, get the Pad Thai. Now for the good part, the sushi! Now, I was planning on trying everything and just making a giant list of what's so good, but I apologize, there's so many good ones that I just forgot my nit picking on certain rolls. Not too hard to find with plenty of parking. The place is moderately large and can accommodate a group of 6-8 pretty well. The inside is decorated nicely to fit the Thai flair. Things were clean, orderly and food repairable for a small shop. Don't be alarmed if dishes sit on tables unbused for a while. It appears that they only have one waitress/host/bus person. Things sat a long while on this busy visit. The menu is fairly large and has many of your standard Thai dishes. The prices were reasonable. You feel like you got a good value as the portion sizes were decent and most things came with soup. The soup was your standard. Not much to distinguish the taste. It was pleasant, warm and tasty. I started with the Tod Mon Goon - which is basically a mashed shrimp patty that is fried. The shrimp tasted fresh and had a nice consistency for smashed shrimp. It was moist. The beading was nice and thick and fried to a perfect crisp. Just enough crisp to know that it was fried. But it did have a slightly heavy oily taste. The breading was thick enough to hold the shrimp together. The white sauce was very tasty. I thought it would be a tropical-coconut flavor. It seemed to be a Mayo tule sauce with a slight fruity flavor. You really couldn't distinguish the flavors. It had a thick consistency and nicely accented the dried shrimp! My entree was the Tom Yum seafood bowl. The bowl was large and contained a decent amount of shrimp, crab pieces, calamari and a couple mussels. All were gently cooked as they were boiled in the broth. The broth started out mild and got progressively hotter in spice taste. The broth was tasty enough to spoon up or pour onto the small rice dish provided. The tomatoes, mushrooms and lemon grass were nice accents to the seafood. Together they all made an enjoyable taste! In general the atmosphere here is very relaxed. We were comfortable in the booths. The waitress let us talk as long as we wanted. Overall a pretty good dining experience.
