This might be the best Thai place in Fort Wayne?…read more We've been to a bunch of different Thai restaurants in town, Thai Diner being our favorite... But Yum Thai may just take the cake. We ordered DD for lunch and the food was phenomenal... It was delivered quickly, packaged really well, and there was a metric ton of food. The owner is so kind, the service friendly and efficient. The food fresh and delicious! The atmosphere simple, bright, and casual. Shared the cucumber salad to start. One can see just by the pic below how fresh it is... very crisp and refreshing. Not just cucumbers but an actual veggie salad. Husband got the Thai Basil, which never disappoints! He really enjoyed it! I have a hard time not ordering Three Best Friends, as it is SO delicious! Previous photo of this dish shows the 3 proteins (you pick them: beef, chicken, pork, seafood, tofu) of beef, shrimp, and tofu. This time , I chose chicken, shrimp, and tofu. The portion is so generous, I always share some with hubby. Once again, highly recommend! They have a very active takeout business, as well, both pick-up and delivery.

On this occasion we occupied the large group room. The room was cozy and allowed our party to have an intimate room to ourselves. The staff here was very friendly and helpful. There was plenty of help to serve our larger group. They were a bit slow...but allowed us to pace ourselves and enjoy the fellowship. I was impressed that they hustled a child's order ahead of the adults food to keep them satisfied. I didn't see the waiters come back through much after the food was served. On this trip I ordered the steak teriyaki bento box. The box is a bit expensive compared to Other places. However the sinking atmosphere, location, quality and volume...justify the price in my mind. The box came with a cup of miso soup. The soup was tasty and a lot like you would expect for a Japanese restaurant. It did not come with a salad as many other places might. The box was stuffed with food! The steak es piled high and excellent! It was very tender and moist. It had a nice teriyaki flavor marinated in the meat. There were two crab Rangoon pieces and two egg rolls. Normally you would only expect one of each. The crab Rangoon wrapper was cooked so that it was a bit oily and the wrapper was mushy. The filling was plentiful. However I felt like the filling was lacking on crab taste and overpowering on cream cheese. The egg Roll wrappers were a bit more crispy without being too crispy. The wrapper was a bit greasy to taste. I found the filling...while fresh...to be a little mushy as well. There were five pieces of a California roll included. That was a lot of sushi to eat as well. The roll was tasty. It was put together nicely and gave you a good taste of each ingredient.

The food was ok. I'd say in general that the food here is more a fusion type place with your typical mall Asian fare. Certainly not as good as the other Thai places in town. I got the spicy Thai grilled chicken with the Thai noodles and a spring roll. The spring roll was ok, I did like the distinct lemongrass flavor, but it lacked a bit in seasoning otherwise. The spicy Thai chicken dish did have some heat to it, but nothing outrageous - I'd put it on a 2 scale out of 5 for heat. It was more sweet than I was expecting and I came across two bones which put some damper on my appetite. Also the chicken tasted like it may have been a bit on the old side. I suffered some stomach discomfort for many hours after eating it but overall did ok and kept it down. The noodles were ok. A bit greasier than other places at the mall and distinctly soy sauce flavored without much other flavors. They were hot and ready though so no major complaints otherwise. Personally, I probably wouldn't return unless I was already at the mall and Sarku or Panda were closed. Even then I'd probably choose something else.
