Oak Tree Road, Edison, NJ I've been to about 8 Indian restaurants in this area. At this place, Punjabi food is okay last time I've been here. Indian fast food cheap. Not as cozy so don't look for comfort. Reminds me of street food style places. I was looking for my old favorite spot behind it (I think that was where it was) that had this really spicey spicey Indian chicken but cooked the way General Tao chicken is (stew dehydrated for flavor). So the first time I walked into this place, I looked around and said there is no way I will eat here, or eat anything brought home from here. Then I smelled and saw the food, and I did a COMPLETE 180. Ethnically I'm Indian, but I'm a first generation American. My parents grew up in India, and when talking about the dining options back in the homeland, they would always talk about the little hole-in-the wall places serving up the best food around. Walking into Sher-E-Punjab, I have a feeling this is exactly what they were always referring to. Looking around, this is a tiny place, drab and grimy feeling, and essentially nothing about it screams great food. As many fellow foodies can agree, however, this is exactly the type of place that makes amazing food! They have many options on their menu, but the staple item is their platter. It comes with naan, rice, dal, 2 kinds of shack (meat or vegetables in a gravy), and some other key sides. The platter costs like $11, but is sure to fill you up and will taste better than what you can get at most upscale Indian restaurants. In addition, they have a "dry paneer" appetizer item, which I just recently tried for the first time, which is beyond incredible, and enough to count as a meal in and of itself! All in all, this is one of the best places to get cheap, fast, and delicious Punjabi food, and is definitely clutch when you're getting that craving. We rarely go to edison...but every time i go to this area i have always eaten good indian food. Unfortunately this wasent the case in this restaurant. we ordered 2 lachha paratha..acahari chicken..goat curry...samosa and gajar ka halwa. The food came fairly quick..samosas were big and dilicious. But our main course was horrible ...the achari chicken didnt tase like acahari chicken at all...it was just chicken curry and on top of that there were only 2 peices of chicken in it...same thing with the goat very little quantity and tasted mediocre. We also got a side of saag which the worker claimed is very popular but my mom didnt like that either. Our desert was horrible too..it tasted like they added shredded paneer in the halwa to make it look like khoya..wow unbelievable..we only had one spoon each and left the rest on the table. I give this place 2 STARS for good lachha parathas and samosas....but with a name like sher e punjab I expected a lot better food. read more

Ordered platter, Sheekh Kabab and Samosa's everything was below average in taste and were not worth half of the price i paid for them. It is a fast food Indian curry place. So align your expectations accordingly. Very basic place serving North Indian food. Goat curry was very disappointing, dal makhni just ok, aloo gobhi was good and so was baigan bharta. Service is good and that earned it an extra star else Edison/Oaktree was better places serving North Indian curries. read more

I walked in the place expecting the food to be similar to the look of the place. The decor left much to be desired (cold white tiles, semi-comfortable chairs), but the food is awesome! Yes, the ambiance is a dump, yes the lady at the counter seems she is wiped all the left overs ( super fat). The lighting is as great, enter the rest room at your risk! In this day and age of rising prices, these guys have served a value meal at steady prices you cannot beat that. For those ass holes who don't like the smell of curry, i say FOF, stay out. This review is long overdue. It used to be our favorite destination when in New Jersey. Even though this place isn't a fine dine the quality of food beats any fine dine restaurant. I personally prefer a fine dine but this place is so awesome that I, not even for once missed a fine dine place while dining here. We have recommended this place to all our family and friends and even took them here and everyone just loved it. If you want to know what a finger-licking sumptuous food is like then this is your stop. Food is steaming hot, it won't get cold until you finish the food which is good because I personally like steaming hot food, it tastes good. Well, some of the must try items are: *Chhola bhatura. *Aloo Tikki chaat. The one star is only for the food. I want to start telling the non Indians to stop giving high reviews without understanding the food. Bad service I was standing to order and she ignored me the person from my back gets to put his order before me. Went on a Sunday afternoon. The experience was like that of a typical highway dhaba seen on highways in India and so the décor too was not great. I ordered, sarson ka saag and makki di roti which indeed had the authentic taste. The vegetable biryani was not upto what I had expected having had the impeccably prepared Sarson ka saag and makki di roti. I also got paneer butter masala which was good. For the food I would give 4.5, decor I would give 2 and curtomer service I would give a 3. More than a place to sit and enjoy the food, getting a take-out is a better choice. read more

Excellent place for Dhabha food, i.e. Dal, Chole, Tandoori veg items. (I don't eat non-veg). One of the best Tandoori Roti (not the white round naan served in the name of Roti at the restaurants in US). Veg Pakora's are not very soft (although my son likes them). I don't think you should compare it to a restaurant since it is not. But if you are in the mood for a good dal makhani and tandoori roti, this is THE place. A place to go for good food at reasonable price is Sher E Punjab I walked into the restaurant last month with my family expecting real punjabi flavour, believe me there are not too many restaurants left in the surrounding area where one can find real taste of punjab & this is the place {infact only place} where one can find real punjabi food, whether it is veg or non veg. The only part that i didn`t liked was the self service. Other than that the food was awesome. we ordered variety of food, Of which i was really impressed with {chicken tikka masala,malaikofta & Nans} i also liked the variety of appitizers too. Service is slow but the most frustrating part was that from the many plates of paneer-makhani we ordered, each plate had only 5-6 small pieces of paneer, working out to more than $1 for each small piece of paneer! We complained but were told that is what we would get - didnt make a difference to them. No toilet paper and napkins in the bathroom - didnt know how the staff could clean themselves. We figured that out in the night later, when three of us got bad stomach cramps. Hygeine is pretty questionable! Cheap but go at your own risk. Food is good but What a poor service,the lady over a counter very rude can't treat customers with even a simple smile

We didn't end up eating at the place, because the owner refused to give us menus or even serve us water. I went there with my girlfriend on Saturday night, February 3rd, 2018, at around 8:30. Just some background: I am Jewish, and my girlfriend is Indian. For whatever reason, everyone else in the restaurant (who were all Indian) seemed to be served food for the entire fifteen-minute duration while we were sitting at our table. Meanwhile, we didn't even get water or menus, and when I asked the waiter for them, he either ignored me or pretended to not understand me. My girlfriend, meanwhile, was getting glares from the owner and the waiter the entire time--apparently, she explained later, because she was out with me (since she is an Indian woman, and it is taboo in conservative Indian culture for her to date a white man). She later spoke with the owner in Punjabi about how they'd treated us, but apparently that went nowhere. We left a few minutes later and ate at another Indian restaurant--one that happily chose to serve an interracial couple. If this is how this business chooses to operate, then they'll be getting a call from the Better Business Bureau next week. read more

So many reasons I'm rating this place with a 1 star. I went in there after reading yelp reviews, immediately I was approached ( not greeted) with an attitude. We had to get up and look for a menu, its a small place so the two workers working in the front of the house should ideally ask if I need anything. This was my first time there, and I had mentioned this to the guy at the counter since I wanted help with ordering food. He didn't have suggestions, basically said everything is good. I order paneer makhani and instead got the one with bell peppers! I ordered butter naan and got a butter roti, I asked for jeera rice and got polouv ( rice with peas). Due to the waitress/food runner or whatever the hell she was having an attitude we made do with the food, and went to pay. The receipt had so much scribbling and over-writing that I couldn't make out and I am pretty sure they over charged us for things! So basically I'm definitely not going back to this junk! food and service suck. read more

Do not go to this place if you are looking for a sit down restaurant with great ambiance. However, if you are looking for good food for takeout, this is the spot. I've had their biriyani, chicken curry, chicken tikka, samosas, chaats, and lamb. All is really great. The prices are also very very affordable for indian food. Their catering was also done wonderfully as we got catering from this place for 40 people. Their only dish I'm not too fond of is the malai kofta. If you want cheap, tasty indian food, this is the spot to go too. Just be aware, they have a minimum credit card charge of $20, so make sure you have cash in case you do not plan on spending that much. read more

The worst restaurant I have ever visited in my life experience. Chicken Tikka tasted like, it is months old frozen. It was not only tasteless but price was unbelievable high. You can imagine, for 4 Nans, 1 plate of white rice, 6 Tikkas, 2 smosas, 2 cans of Sodas and 1 small chutni, I paid $ 70.00. On top of that food had no desi taste and sitting environment was horrible. Bathrooms were filthy and counter service behaved as if she is doing a big favor to take our order. I would never recommend this restaurant to anybody. read more

such a bad service from lady in front. rudest person in restaurant bussiness i had never seen. when ordered punjabi dishes gave smallest portion possible of onion i had ever experienced in any punjabi restaurant. then when asked extra onion twice as ordered 2 more dishes then lady told me are you here for eating onion? the bill for 2 person was 40 dollar and she did not like as i asked 9 cents worth of more onion. then at time of paying invoice she charged me $2.50 extra in invoice for onion plastic cup size of 3 cm by 3 cm(which she gave me along with PUNJABI food . size of cup of pyaj(onion) was smaller than pizza sauce cup. when i asked i never experienced any extra charge for onion as it is not in menu. she told that papa john charge for pizza sauce so as we charge for 3x3 cm pyaj (onion) . i told them Mcdonald do not charge for 2x2 cm heinz ketch up. now i do not understand where this ugly shere e punjanb stands between papa john and mcdonald? Lady in front has all cunningness but not at all having business sense. Chef seems to be polite and mature.
