The "range " was to $700 but given the line item of expenses, it would be unlikely. Then AFTER the move they charge me the FULL $700, and when I ask why...to please explain via the itemization why price is now a significant $220 higher. Andrew from MM tells me that's just what it is, there is NO explanation, does tell me I was overcharged by $45 (no clue if they will issue the refund) and then tells me to stop asking questions like a child and HANGS UP on me. This is a great example of how poor customer service has become too much of a norm. I am the customer, I paid the ridiculous price and was simply asking WHY.....and this guy Andrew is too bothered or unable to explain why the 50% markup. Never had this experience before and never had an estimate range THIS FAR off, and with no understanding of why. This should never have happened.

I did not choose them because a neighbor of mine has a moving company and I got reviews from 5 different people who I know, who thought he was outstanding. It's their business--they should know from the home visit the truck sizes needed.

All the other companies had receptionists or things to fill out which were very impersonal. I personally like supporting small businesses so chose Smooth Move because the owner was so involved. I didn't know you could also hire them to pack items into a UHaul for a long distance move to avoid the big trucking company costs plus you can hire them to move things around your house. My move took longer than expected as I had more to move than expected but the guys were there every step of the way being communicative and making it the most pleasant experience possible given moving is quite unpleasant. HORRIBLE NEVER SHOWED UP I hired them for a move from a…read moreone bedroom apartment in New London to a storage unit. I am clearing the apartment for my son who is in the hospital. I live and hour away from New London and drove there to be on time for a 10:00 move . I was notified by text by the actual guy doing the heavy lifting that there would be a two hour delay. Ok I drove an hour so I waited . The next texted said that they were further delayed because the job they were at was a 4 person job and the "boss " had only sent two of them and there would be another hour or so delay. He assured me they would get to me that day. At this point I asked to have the "boss" call me he never did. So I called U Hall who referred me to movinghelp.com the site they post on the U Hall website. Movinghelp.com told me that their listings were advertisements not recommendations ( good to know) but they would contact the "boss" and have him call me. He never did. Around 3:30 I got ahold of the poor guy doing the actual work who said they would be done with the job they were at in around an hour and it would be an hour and sixteen minutes to get to me and by that time it would be dark so no move. Did I mention this was all happening December 23 two days before Christmas . I wasted an entire day waiting for First Class Movers to show up. I understand things happen but honestly they could have canceled at any point before 3:30 after I had been waiting all day. And what kind of "boss" does not return a call and makes his workers string someone along all day. So my son is still in the hospital the move needs to happen on Tuesday and NO CLASS MOVERS has not contact me to apologize and make things right. MY ADVICE DONT EVEN CONSIDER FIRST CLASS MOVERS

The movers damaged the edging of two doorframes and wooden floors in two rooms. I literally watched…read morethem damage the wooden floor in one case by pushing a heavy piece of furniture across it. When I said something, the mover immediately stopped and apologized, recognizing that it was inappropriate. I have since reached out to Brandon, the owner of the company, by text message, left a voicemail on a couple occasions, and wrote through the website asking to address it with photographic evidence. It's been over a week and a half, and he is clearly ignoring me. I am filing a complaint with the BBB next and will continue to leave reviews until this company repairs the damage they caused. The sad part is that I thought the movers overall worked hard and did a good job in other respects. I realize that the damage came from being tired at the end of a long day, but the fact is that your movers caused it, and part of what I paid for in working with you is an insured company that would cover any damage to the premises.

Yes, I questioned the only 8 hour estimate ... but they cited their expertise. I was also specifically instructed to leave dressers packed - which the movers themselves expressed frustration at ("they always tell people to do that and they shouldn't") which caused massive additional time wasted while they packed said dressers. Low and behold, move came in at 10 hours. I was informed I would be charged an extra $1000.
