They have very economical lunch box options for the weekday. The tempura was a bit oily but the portion was big. The portions for chicken were also big. the udon comes with soup but we asked for it separate just an FYI Overall pretty worth for weekday lunch. Three boxes enough for 5 people

Tasty sushi place in the middle of Burnaby Heights. Parking is available on Hastings, as well as the side streets and the city owned lots. The place is nice and cozy. Japanese theme with the wood trim. Staff are friendly. I'm not sure if they're Japanese. (I think they're Chinese?) They have a pretty solid lunch bento box selection. I had their sashimi bento with teriyaki beef. The tuna was fine but the salmon tasted off. Knock one star off. In hindsight, I should've probably said something instead of eating it anyways. Hopefully that was a one time thing. The rest of the bento was fine. Wouldn't mind coming back at some point. Hopefully they fix the salmon problem.

Are you looking for a good sushi around Hastings Heights? This is a great option. The Shen Sushi is a small restaurant, well decorated with an amazing menu. The photos on the menu will help you a lot, but the servers were amazing. She was super friendly, recommended their chefs suggestions and more. Their food set is enough for one and it was so yummy! Loved every single of sushi piece that I ate. Their Nigiri and money pocket are really good option. Loved their miso soup with shitake!! Their sushi was so fresh and so yummy. It is hard to highlight my favourite meal from that place. I did have a great time. Since this restaurant is small, I recommend you will go there earlier or you will wait in line. Cheers

Lunch on Good Friday took us to Shen Sushi and wow, this place is an absolute gem! We ordered a mix of both modern and traditional items from the menu. My husband had a bento box that came with Miso soup, Chicken Teriyaki, California Roll and some Tempura. Our daughter had the B.C. Combo (Dynamite Roll, B.C. Roll and California Roll), and I had Veggie Pocket & Unagi Mini Rice Brick. The Veggie Pocket & Unagi Mini Rice Brick were so different from anything I've had in any other Japanese restaurant. Such creative fare at Shen Sushi and flawlessly executed as well. My Unagi Mini Rice Brick was a brick of rice as the name implies, but it was battered and fried like Tempura. It was wonderfully crispy as was everything else on the table that was battered and fried. (ie. Tempura in my husband's s Bento Box, and the salmon skin in the B.C. Roll) Veggie Pocket was bursting with flavour, especially paired with the Mango Sauce; I loved the presentation. It was a very creative way to use an Inari wrap compared with the standard Inari Nigiri that we find at most Japanese restaurants. Fans of "Spirited Away" will recognize a certain character who can be found in quite a few places throughout the restuarant. There's a mini claw machine there where you can try your luck at winning a candy, for just 25 cents. Our daughter gave it a try. She wasn't able to pick up anything with the machine but they still gave her a candy in the end! There was also an Easter Egg hunt set up in the restaurant. We had fun finding and photographing all of the eggs! Service: Good Parking: Free Location: 4219 Hastings St, Burnaby

So shen sushi opened and repace a ramen shop. It used to be a good ramen shop but i think it wasnt that busy. Shen sushi was okay. It tried to be upscale but it didnt reach my level of what i call a good sushi. Got the dinner set b and c. The tempura was terrible. The sauce was too sweet and the batter was bad. Thr sashimi was frozen yet thick. The rests were pretty much basic stuff. It served a lot of stuff like korean sushi restaurant though but its a chinese sushi restaurant. Cheers!

The staff are genuinely friendly and attentive, and I've never felt pressured to hurry through a meal or give up the table. I took my parents there yesterday and they both ordered the chicken bento box. I was actually surprised by how much food they received. With restaurant prices being what they are these days, I thought it was very reasonably priced for the amount of food they were served, and they both really enjoyed their meals. I ordered a few different rolls, and every one of them was fresh and delicious. Another thing I appreciate about Sushi On is how clean and well cared for the restaurant is. We arrived just before opening and had to wait until the exact opening time before they let us in. Through the window, though, I could see the staff still busy cleaning and getting everything ready. I didn't mind waiting at all--in fact, I appreciated seeing that they weren't going to open the doors until everything was just right. Fresh food, generous portions, reasonable prices and genuinely friendly service. There's a reason Sushi On remains one of my favourites.

I really like their teishoku (set meal) options! I got a combo set that comes with both chirashi don and udon, plus a small side salad and three pieces of tempura for $27.95. The sashimi was super fresh, and even the salad greens were crisp with zero bad leaves. The rice in the chirashi don was delicious, it's sprinkled with a layer of furikake which makes it so easy to eat. The fish slices were a bit thin, but since you get 5 or 6 different kinds plus some fish roe, I can't complain. The presentation of the whole chirashi don was adorable, complete with a tiny edible (?) flower on top! The interior is super comfortable and feels spacious, even though seating is a bit limited. They were doing great business for lunch, literally packed the entire time! This was my first visit, but I definitely wouldn't mind stopping by again if I'm in the area to try their other dishes. Recommended!

We ordered the bigger party platter, a bunch of tempura shrimp, specialty rolls, all almost $200 & it was Delicious & totally hit the spot! It's a tiny but cozy sushi spot with maybe 4-5 tables at the end of a tiny section of maybe 3 shops, in a residential area. Our order was ready when we got there and I don't know they even were able to make all the food for our order! We're from California and I've never seen a sushi roll with sweet potato in it. It wasn't my favorite but it was interesting and food for vegans, I guess. It was part of the big party platter. The wait staff were super nice and Japanese from their accents, which I prefer getting Japanese food from Japanese shop owners and workers. They threw in complimentary edamame. Would probably be a regular there, if I lived nearby.

At first glance, it looks like a tiny, old establishment that I normally wouldn't walk into if I were passing by, but the food is very fairly priced, tasty and well portioned. The waitress was very nice as well. I ordered the Volcano Roll ($12.75) and Salmon Tataki Roll ($12.95). My friend ordered the Alaska Roll($11.50) and Appetizer Sashimi ($9.95). We were both very full in the end and barely able to finish our food. The volcano roll was topped with a very generous mountain of torched scallop in the center under all the tempura bits. The Salmon Tataki Roll was torched and sprinkled with delicious crunchy bits on top that made the texture a more enjoyable experience. I would definitely come back to try different items or order from them in the future.

My absolute favourite is the truffle lobster roll, which I ordered an extra roll as one is never enough! Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication with my extra truffle lobster roll and after waiting 10 to 15 minutes, I had to inquire about it. First off, always bring a jacket here even if it's hot outside. The AC here is terribly cold. As regulars here for decades, sometimes with mild turbulent experiences, this specific visit highlighted a real decline in how the restaurant operates. We arrived close to sunset on a cool evening, yet the dining room was uncomfortably cold with air blowing directly on our backs. Staff can be seen to the side rubbing their upper arms trying to warm themselves. Patrons near us (tables really close) also expressed discontent with the chilly air and food. I asked a server if they could adjust the temperature twice. Finally, I got up and went to the counter and in broken English, the younger woman just shrugged and muttered that the AC was off, even though cold air was clearly still blowing--surely their HVAC system has a heater. After sitting there in a really cold dining room freezing and hearing other diners continue to complain, we decided to walk out without ordering. The cashier gave a completely scripted, insincere apology on our way out. It feels like they simply do not care about the dine-in experience or the tips customers leave anymore. I feel customers need to be more vocal and use their wallets as a method of approval. I also noticed a newly posted sign saying they now close between 3 and 4 pm for staff breaks, which seems to point to obvious staffing issues. There's way too many Sushi restaurants competing for business in the Highgate Metrotown area, this one has fallen off the rails. And I can't imagine how bad management is with these kinds of working conditions.
