The seafood here is just ok. It's not seasoned good enough for me though. Bing a good cook and having spent time in New Orleans and other Louisiana towns, this crawfish here do not compare. It would be nice to have an infused crawfish with a truly delightful blend of seasonings that comes all the way through--not just on top of the crawfish. You have to emerge crawfish in seasoning otherwise they'll just be blah. The fried fish is decent and the salads aren't bad. Overall, flavor is a concern for me. read more

I'm glad there is now a location closer to me. The uptown location is too crowded and there is always a wait. We walked right in. The fries aren't that good. The waitress suggested them. This place was a horrible experience. The food is over priced. The catfish dinner had one small piece of fish, terrible French fries, and when you get the bill you'll notice they charged for tarter sauce and cocktail sauce. O yea they don't ask if you want both sauces or tell you they are extra, they just bring then with your meal and charge you extra. They're too many other local options for this nonsense. read more

This place was okay. The experience started off great with the manager helping us to find seating. But then it kind of went down hill. The waiter we had did not know the menu items and we had to ask about things we had saw on here in order to make out food order. She also was very slow causing us to sit for awhile first for our straws and then she forgot to come by and refill our drinks. Whoever said this place should be called Salt Shack is right. The sauce had no flavoring except for the super saltiness. Got kitchen sink medium shrimp and also one in spicy? (3rd spicy level). Couldn't tell the difference in spiciness between the two. The spicy one looks more red is all. And where was the garlic in the sauce anyway? Couldn't taste it. Sad. The shrimp is also $10 for each .5lb, which is almost double what I'm used to paying. The king crab and shrimp seemed fresh enough, not gross and fishy, just the intense salt flavoring didnt work out for us. Well, its been open for 2 weeks and I have already been 3 times... I guess that has something to say for their food! I haven't been brave enough to try the boils yet (very messy) but their buffalo chicken sandwich is awesome. Atmosphere is also a nice change from the normal chain restaurant with chalk board walls, music, and sports games on all around. I don't understand the negative reviews unless it's about waiting or service. This depends on crowd and servant's attitudes. Also, everybody can't be the Boiling Crab nor do I want to stand in that long azz line when I'm starving for seafood. My rating is about the quality of food and the atmosphere. I luv this place. I used to go to the one in uptown and I'm so happy to have one closer. The crab legs with kitchen sink in mild are very, very good. The shrimp in the same flavor is very good also. Let me start by saying the food and service at this location are USUALLY great. There's been 2 times out of the 20+ I've dined there, when there's been an issue with the food. Both times the management has been completely UNABLE to help me. Twice I've sent back food that was UNPRESENTABLE for service, yet still paid for food I never ate. That's just unfathomable to me. Alright where to start.. Amazing service industry a go to place when you leave your work and need a kick butt atmosphere! Drinks stiff and extremely well priced! Food is out of this world that kind of place you after eating it dream about and want it the very next day! Best server ever christy she was on point and extremely attentive! Now to the kick a.. Bartenders Lela mostly days but for you industry folks it's your day off and a kick butt chick come in she is your girl! The food was really good. Our server kind of sucked. It took forever for her to come to our table, forever to get our waters, and she didn't really check on us so that sucked. With that being said, I saw another server--Chad--who was on point with his tables. So on point that our table noticed and we left him a tip even though he wasn't our server. I don't understand some of the bad reviews on here. This place is amazing! My boyfriend and I went here on a wimb. I ordered the snow crab with the kitchen sink, rice on the side, and sausage. My boyfriend ordered shrimp and sausage. I can't recall his seasoning but it was mild. Perfect for the shrimp. I love that it's not an uppity, don't get your hands dirty place. You can feel comfortable getting messy all while enjoying your good seafood! The key here is to not just get seafood. That's how you get full people! You gotta layer the deliciousness by adding sides. The sausage is delicious. I've gotten the corn too and it's good as well. If you want to get seafood only you're gonna have to get at least a pound because anybody that knows food knows it doesn't take much to make up a pound. First time visit....and we will definitely be regulars. I'm a person that will give bad food a second chance, but not bad service. This place doesn't have to worry about any of that. We were greeted by Jordan, and this young man is definitely an asset to this location. A genuinely nice person. Our server was Triston, it was his second day on the job. The food was delicious. We got the legs, shrimp and grilled chicken with fries. The server kinda sucked cuse we had to remind him many times of things we had already requested but at least he had a smile on his face. And as messy as your hands get they should have better paper towels. They have the cheap ones that shrivel in your hand. We didn't use the bibs that put around your neck. We recommend that you do use them. Also, when your done eating they have a really cool hand washing machine. read more

11-1-2015: Folks say there is a first time for everything. Well, this was our first visit to Shell Shack in Plano. It was my husband's suggestion - he said his friends told him to eat there. The seafood looked like puke on a plate. Didn't taste that good either. All that runny mess all over the place. Based on my facial expression, the waiter told my husband (not me) all that runny stuff was butter. Just tons of it. I thought to myself. That's strange; I cook with/eat Land O Lakes butter all the time and it doesn't taste/feel/look like this. I must have used 100 napkins -yet couldn't wipe that stuff off my hands, crab, or corn. What kind of butter are they using? So, I asked for a take out. We went straight home where I promptly threw up five times after eating at shell shack. It felt like someone played an evil prank by feeding me non-food content. Won't ever go back. Believe it, or Not. But, I've never written a review for a restaurant before - EVER! And, my stomach is still a little upset today. Still have the leftover, but won't be eating it. Let's hope your experience won't be like mine. However, I cannot recommend this place. SO - You Choose. My gf took me to Shell Shack when I came to Dallas to visit and I really enjoyed it! We both got crab legs and they were delicious. She's a fan of the kitchen sink seasoning and I liked the spicy one. The service was decent. They have a cool automated hand washing machine that I've never seen anywhere else. My wife and haven't been here for a few months and always had good attentive service and a nice dinner. Last night was far below my expectations. Not sure if there's been a change in management, but we'll think twice before returning. First of all, they took forever to greet us. We were seated almost immediately but no one bothered to see if we needed anything for at least 5 or 10 minutes, very disappointing. We requested the Biardi (sp?) crab legs but they didn't have them available. They took awhile to serve us and we were told they had a big order and were a bit backed up in the kitchen. When we finally got our food, it came with very little sauce. When we requested more sauce, we were told the Manager indicated this is what they normally serve, 4 oz per pound for the food we order. We requested 1 lb of crab legs, 1 lb of shrimp, 2 orders of potatoes and broccoli. It didn't appear to be 8 oz of sauce, also I don't believe they took into account the potatoes and broccoli that was ordered. We then requested more sauce, and it was $.50 a small container. read more

I ordered snow crabs at shell shack in plano as I have in the past. Well today I ordered 2 lbs with potatoes nothing else. When I got home I saw I didn't have the potatoes that I order, I was very upset to say the least... I had a long week at the office and I was awaiting my mouthwatering delight. I called the shell shack in Plano and spoke with the bartender Lela whom I tipped well, she took good care of me. She had me speak with the manager Richard, I explained to him my displeasure and that I can not eat the crab legs without the potatoes, I informed Richard I'd have to drive back to get the potatoes, which I did. Upon my arrival I spoke with Richard the manager he asked which seasoning etc and said one moment. When he returned with the bag I took the potatoes out, they were soggy and mushed, he had the audacity to say I mushed them. I was so appalled and informed him that he did not handle the matter properly. This foolish man cut me off mid sentence and said wait a minute. It took him so long to come back I just left. If you have any dignity and self respect do Not dine at shell shack in Plano. I now understand why that gentleman gave them 1 star for not calling him back in regards to their horrible experience. I rather die and go to Heaven then dine at shell shack Plano. The owner's are obviously fools and not great businessmen as well. How can you keep that poor excuse of a manager on staffl. I guarantee you, you will loose a lot of business in Plano. I would further like to state that the snow crab legs were very soggy, not firm or as they should be. So excited to try this place, since I've been to most places like this. I was so disappointed, we got a pound crawfish, a pound of shrimp, a pound of crab and some sausage. For starters my crab was like warm, and the seasoning was awful, it's just pure seasoning in the bottom of the bag not any garlic or limes or anything, the food was so salty to where I had a headache one we left. The seasonings were amazing except for the fact it was very very messy. Order the seasoning without the "base" and you will save yourself a lot of time cleaning your hands off. Wow is all I can say about shell shack. What a great experience the wait list could use some work. There were no seats anywhere this place was packed at 10:30pm. Ken and ty took great care of us. The oysters are my only complaint I personally hate gulf oysters but let's talk dungeons crab!!! Wow I got the kitchen sink flavor and medium spice the meal was one of the best I have ever had!! Top 5 top 5 Ty our server killed it always making sure we had what we needed to enjoy the meal. My wife loves shrimp so she got a half pound Cajun flavor and mild on spice just know that if you get mild they just add more butter to cut the spice but so flavorful!! The shrimp was really good!!!!
