Her Recommendation was in point from mushrooms, steak, baked potato, Mac and cheese was not the best, always a win for the Brussel sprouts. I absolutely loved this place. It's everything Texas should be. Now, mind you, this is tourist Texas so don't go looking for some mega smoked BBQ outside or anything. LOL We walked in and it was great. From the horseshoes embedded in the sidewalk to the saloon look and feel, this is definitely a MUST experience for any out of towners and even for some locals too. We walked in and sure enough, it was saloon and barn mixed together. The place was ample and the service was great. We started off with the famous bread they are known for and it was amazing. Definitely worth the hype!! After asking, our server gave us some good suggestions on the menu and that's what I went with. I got the Country Fried Steak with the best pepper gravy I've had....like ever. The best part of this dish was the flash friend beans. Now, we're going to pause there for a second b/c these beans were crunchy yet perfectly cooked. They had garlic, salt, pepper, soy (I think) and possibly some breading. These were so good that I have tried Googling copy cat recipes to replicate. I am not kidding. The other member of our part of two had the salmon and vegetables with a salad and, I don't even like salmon, but had to have a taste. Equally as delicious as my country fried steak. This place is quaint but I can see it having a huge lunch crowd and, I'd imagine, a great happy hour. I would repeat for sure to try other items on the menu. There's plenty to choose from for sure. I've been to different Saltgrass steak houses and enjoyed the food. Unfortunately this one did not live up to the standards the others set. The steak was undercooked--I asked for medium rare yet half the steak was almost uncooked. Sent it back to cook a little more but that didn't help. The quality was horrible. Full of grizzle and just not good. $140 for lunch for two, so you expect a great meal, but not the case. Server Steve was great but the rest was well below par. read more

I rarely leave reviews that are not five star.... Yesterday our family went to Saltgrass about 3 pm. It was very empty and we waited 5-10 at hostess stand ! My husband went into bar area to see who was seating guests Our waiter came another 5-7 mins later. We ordered drinks and the artichoke dip. We didn't eat the artichoke dip because it was in a skillet but it was cold. We ordered our steaks ! The steaks were well cooked to order. However, my steak and sweet potato (I ordered regular potato) were cold too ! My husband's steak was warmer. Our table was not cleared off from appetizer before the food arrived. We never received drink refills until we were asked when we were finished. The cheesecake had a soggy crust. And not to mention it was miserably cold in the steakhouse. If I could split my review and give 5 stars to Mia our server and front of the house 0 stars I would. Mia our server made up for the fact that we waited to sit for 45 minutes!! We had a reservation for 5:30 on a Saturday for 7, we arrived at 5:25pm... and then proceeded to wait 45 minutes til we actually sat down. After about 35 minutes, and asking several times of what was going on- a brand new hired employee got my 4 kids drinks while we waited. We had to eat snacks I had in my bag because my kids were starving. After sitting down, Mia helped us out and did her best to make up for our first terrible 45 minutes. We used to love this place, but my experience has proved that the magament and food quality here is going down the drain. We got seated and they forgot about us. Waited around 20 minutes before I had a call down a waiter, who was completely confused about why we didn't have a waiter for our table. Still, very disappointing that there were 4-5 waiters walking around and didn't care that a table wasn't being waited on. The food quality has definitely gone down. The Pats ribeye tasted like boiled meat with fake sear marks. It had absolutely no flavor, like it was created in a lab. They weren't known for their cuts, but recently they've made them even thinner. My wife's steak tasted like chuck meat without any seasoning. The tenders I ordered had so much breading and so little chicken. Overall terrible service, terrible food. If I could rate this below 1 star I would. If you want to be disrespected and disappointed definitely go here. But I'll never be going back here again. The ambiance looks like every Saltgrass, except with sticky tables. read more

Came here for my sister's birthday with the family. We had reservations and were seated right on time by the friendly greeter, and that set the night out on a great note. The ambiance is pretty much the same at every Saltgrass you can visit. Typical Texas steakhouse. Mounted cattle heads on the wall along with photos of of Texas' past and a few photos of Texas' contemporary like George Strait. Our food was pretty good. We had several appetizers, like Fried Onions, Fried Pickles and Peppers, and Fried Mozzarella. That is in addition to the fresh baked bread they serve. My main course was Grilled Salmon with Asparagus. Both were really good, though my Salmon was slightly overcooked. The Service was really good, probably the best part of the experience. My sons and I love this place. Service was attentive but not intrusive. My sons crave the baked potato soup. They both had good steaks. My girlfriend and I had ribeyes that didn't meet expectations. Both looked noticeably smaller than 12 oz ribeye we ordered and both were significantly underdone (we ordered medium rare but got rare, and medium well but got medium rare). Sending it back just bogs down the meal and is rarely worth it. We'll be back with hopes of a better meal for all. read more

We haven't been to Saltgrass in a while so for our last evening in Texas, we decided to check it out. The bread is still awesome, warm and yummy with butter. For about $25, you get an 8 oz steak with your choice of sides, this is still a great value considering price increases we've seen due to inflation. Our server Cayden?? was awesome as well. I'll be fair - service in the past was hit/miss. But on my visit on Saltgrass on 10/30 the service was amazing. Our server JoJo was great, friendly, helpful, on top of her game. Attentive without being obtrusive. She recommended the new spinach dip - and it's so much better than old recipe. Our food was delicious, hot, and we received it quickly. The tenderloin tips were great and try the carrot cake - it's not overly sweet and makes 3 desserts. Will definitely be back again. read more

Wow! This place has really fallen from the good times. I used to love this place. The service was so bad it was literally laughable. The restaurant was over half empty. It took over an hour for our food to come out. Nearly everything was wrong and it was cold. The manager said he was going to fix it. It came out wrong again. Then they said they were going to take an item off the bill, but they charged us for an additional item before taking the item off the bill. It took another 15 minutes to get that corrected. Maybe it was just a bad day, but judging by how empty the place was.. I'm guessing it is not one off situation. read more

This steakhouse was located near our hotel and it was a great first meal straight off of the plane. We immediately ordered hot water with lemon and tortilla soup. The tortilla soup was tangy, filled with veggies, avocado, small bits of chicken and thin crunchy tortilla chips. The warm pumpernickel bread was complimentary and came with honey butter. The chicken Caesar salad was a standard Caesar. The croutons were flavorful and the chicken was perfectly grilled and juicy. My husband enjoyed his chicken with the green beans. The food at Saltgrass was spot on tonight! With a large group of 10, it was surprising that every meal was deliciously prepared as requested. Our server was amazing, our wait time was minimal. A few very flavorful entrees for our group: chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steak, salmon, red snapper. There's also early dinner specials when you order M-F before 6. While the prime rib was not the best we have had, it was still pretty good. Cooked to our preference, medium rare. The meat was good, but we really did not care too much for the seasoning. The pork chop was also good, since it was pork, i requested it medium. It was juicy and flavorful. Both our entrées came with salad or soup and sides. We both opted for ceasar salad. And got a side of sweet potato fries and mashed potatoes. The sweet potato fries were good. It was nicely seasoned.
