Great experience. ADAM was our waiter. Aside from him being most attentive waiter ever, the food was great. Never went without a full l glass of lemonade. Snow crab is AMAZING. Just changed my 5 star review to a 1 star because of horrible customer service by Shawn, "the manger". We were waiting for a table, and noticed that people that arrived after us were getting tables. So I went in to talk to the host. He said that because we have 6 ppl that we need two tables. He pointed to the table that he was waiting for to give us. The host asked if our whole party was here, I said no, but if yall have policy, I wanted to tell manager that we would be placing our entire order as soon as we sat down. I have been a waitress I understand yall need to flip tables. Then after a few minutes noticed that they were seating a party at the table he said would be ours. I went back to host stand. And asked, where the manager was, he was standing right there. I said to the host, I asked to speak with him if there was an issue with us being seated. Shawn said, we do not seat unless half of the party is here, very rude and condescending. I said, I understand that policy and we planned to put our entire order in because we were waiting on our teenage children to join us. That is why I wanted to talk to you. His response was, here is corporates number.... Then Mike another "manager" said can I help because he saw my husband and my agitation at how Shawn was treating us. He did nothing either to resolve our upset, just said, Have a good night with a smirk on his face when we said we were leaving. I am in shock, we have been patrons since they opened. Dallas is so far from the ocean and getting great seafood can be a challenge. Not at Shell Shack! The calamari is the best anywhere and everything on the ala carte platter we've ordered keeps us coming back! I am obsessed with the crab legs, and I go here often but I have just switched to the crab boil and here is why. we usually go with a large group of people and spend several hundred dollars. every time we go there is a gratuity fee of 20% that's a service charge added to our bill. I am OK with that because the service is usually great. however it says service charge and two times now the waitress has told us that that is not their tip, that is a service charge for the house. so feeling bad as a group we have decided to tip them another 20%. So regardless of our bill price we are paying an additional percent 40% in fees. we don't want to Steph the waitresses, but we also don't want to pay this excessive amount. I would be happy to go back they clear this up. All of our friends have now boycotted of the place because of this. The Plano location is right down the road from our hospital so we usually go for happy hour and have a rep come and pay and we have had over $1000 in bills before basically, change the wording "service charge" to gratuity if it is a gratuity otherwise it shouldn't be on there because 40% on top of that bill is insane read more

We went on a Saturday at 615pm and got a table right away, but it was tight in there. Service was great, very friendly staff. Prices are a little high for anything other than Snow Crab, and my crab was a bit old and didn't come out of the shell easily. The fresher the crab, the easier they come out in my experience. The clam chowder was very good, but for $7, I expected a much larger portion, it was minimal and was not so much a bowl as a large saucer portion. This used to be a favorite spot for seafood. I was extremely disappointed my last visit when our waitress took back an incorrect order, but didn't bother to tell us. She brought out crab laden with spices when we ordered it "naked." Instead of bringing it back naked the way we ordered and PAID for, she just had our crab WASHED with water! It tasted terrible. She also assured us we would not be charged for any of the sauces, but she charged us $2 for each tiny container of sauces that came out. Our fresh oysters were also less than fresh, and it was like they intentionally chose the smallest ones to serve us. THIEVES! I placed an online order on April 17th. An order confirmation never came to my email but the charge was pending in my account. I showed up to pick up my food and after waiting 45 minutes was told no order was available for me. I asked if the order could be remade which they obliged but said I had to pay again. Baffled I was confused as to why. The manager who was very condescending said they were unable to issue refunds and told me to contact the corporate office. I called immediately and was told I had to wait for the transaction to post to my account. 2 days later the transaction processed and I contacted the corporate office again. I was given the run around regarding my refund. Finally a week later I was told it was processed. The money never showed up. I contacted my bank and my bank saw no pending refunds at all. I call the corporate office again. Same run around. This is 3 weeks later and Shell shack plano has still not refunded me money for the food I did not receive. I will never eat here again. Not worth the hassle. Also the staff were not wearing gloves or masks while handling the food during the Corona virus pandemic. Eat at your own risk. read more

Great environment, amazing food and stellar service. We always go as a group (work crew) after our shifts(late night) or on the rare event we have evenings off (Sundays) and honestly have never been disappointed. Kitchen sink diablo is honestly the only way to go, the heat builds in the back of your throat and it's not really to much spice for pansy's (okay I LOVE spicy food so possibly try a less intense version). They over season which takes this boil over the top, all of the different flavors really take over your taste buds and have you craving bite after bite. Drinks stay full and everyone seems to be having fun while at work which all the guest can pick up on increasing their experience. The tarter sauce and cocktail are a must for anything really and I need an option to buy it by the gallon. The bread pudding is something I'd ask for as the sweet ending to my last meal and the crab tater tots would be the epic beginning to the end. There are many good aspects of this place, but they lack some on the fundamentals like courtesy, efficiency and value. The place is essentially a bar and casual dining establishment. Lots of TVs on the walls and the menu is a chalkboard. They have two kinds of tables high and low. The very first words out of the hostess' mouth was "do you want a high or low table?" Not "welcome to Shell Shack", not "how are you tonight", not "hello have you been here before? They have no waiting area so I was grateful that we got seated right away, however. We selected a low table. The tables are covered with pseudo waterproof paper. The waitress comes over to sign her name and introduce herself. She doesn't introduce the place, tell you about the chalkboards or anything about the place. She was not welcoming or even a little bit interested in making our experience a great one. More of a get things done and get my tip kinda person. She came frequently to take water glasses, almost empty dishes and trash from the table. One time we had to stop her from taking our food away. She seemed obsessed with this task. The food was ok, but way too salty for my taste. We had the fried food and not the boiled food though from other reviews they seem to liberally salt their food here. There are really only those two choices: fried or boiled. That and they have different sauces, etc. You have to pay for any extras ala carte. If you order hush puppies, gumbo and anything green like a salad you can spend $20-$30 pretty easily. $10.95 for the shrimp plate which comes with fries, $5.95 for gumbo, $7.95 for a house salad and $2.99 for tea add extra hushpuppies for $2.99 and you have almost $30.00. The food was, however, pretty plentiful and the shrimp and catfish delicious. I really liked the gumbo and I thought it was a pretty good amount for the price. I've eaten at much better places in Dallas for less though. Overall, the service was mediocre, the ambiance ok, for a bar, and the food was pretty good, but there are better values in Plano and Dallas. Like my son said we'll come back in six months and give them a try again. It is too bad, too because this place is close to home and I love seafood. If they would work on the service fundamentals it could be a fun place. As a side note, the casual dining food service places seem to be going the way of the dodo bird. Applebys, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chili's and Black Eyed Pea for example. This place would be better if you just ordered it yourself either electronically or at a counter and avoided a tip. I'm very upset right now I've never been this disappointed with shell shack Plano. I had the manger Robert tell me that the customer is not always right. He also proceeded to tell me he could not accommodate me for multiple missing food items on MULTIPLE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS . I requested an entire free meal due to how many time I've missed items. I felt I paid for enough to get me a free boil. He said thats not how it works and he can't just give out free food. I'm very confused as to how his business is running with these standards. It's very inappropriate to tell a customer that the customer is not always right. I will be in contact with cooperate in the morning with this matter.
