Nothing annoys me more than inconsistency, I've visited this location several times with the hopes of a great experience. Unfortunately today May 12th is the day that I refuse to give this place a pass! The food is crap, I specifically order my fish extra crispy and my fries with no salt with the hope that the fish will be done and fries fresh. But still got horrible food. You would think, during a time like this when consumers like myself are trying to patronize your business that the least you can do is prepare fresh fries and cooked fish. Note, I gave one star ONLY because you have too in order for me to let other consumers know. Take a note from Houston and Pappadeaux on consistency!!!! I ordered the catfish basket which came with: 2 filets, 2 hush puppies, and fries. The fish was fresh, extra crispy, and flavorful. The fries were homemade and so were the hush puppies. I had visited this restaurant a few years back and loved their offerings. Having recently visited I found their food overly seasoned and of very low equality. We purchased: - 1 lb of crab - 2 lbs crawfish - dozen oysters The crawfish and crab were heavily over seasoned and of very poor quality. As if our fish was frozen for days and served as if fresh. I was deeply unimpressed with our $60 meal. The taps were apparently delivered "frozen" by their supplier which seems unacceptable on a Valentine's weekend so we purchased their highest end offerings (corona and Budweiser). My family and I love shell shack. We usually go to the Dallas location but since we've moved it's a bit out of our way now. Today my friends and I decided to try the Plano location and the food was great as always, but the service was terrible. From entering the establishment, I could just tell our waitress did not want to wait on us today, we hardly were checked on, when she would drop stuff off she would set it down and hurry off before we could ask for anything, and it wasn't even busy. We also ordered 2 more drinks and never got them once we received our food we never saw her again. She even asked another server that had just got there after we had already been done for 10 minutes to come and check on us, and that server brought us our bill. There was about 2 other tables that she was waiting on besides us at the time. SOOO my friend was visiting for the weekend and she loves crab legs and it was late on a Sunday so I looked it up and this was the only place still open serving crab legs. She ordered a 1lbs of crab legs, with kitchen sink and I had shrimp with kitchen sink.. So it wasn't bad but it wasn't great. I had to add some extra seasoning to make it taste like something.. The server was very nice I will give him that. However when we got ready to pay he over charged me and told me the only way to charge me correctly was refund my card and charge me again instead of actually just refunding me the correct amount back since this was his mistake. I have 0 complaints, so it's super easy to give Shell Shack a 5-star rating after a few times of dining in and taking out. The layout of the restaurant doesn't contain many tables and is spacious enough to where you're not all up on the party next to you- bless! Service is friendly though maybe a bit forgetful. I was impressed as my group of 7 was sat immediately by the manager after being quoted a 30 min wait by the host on Easter Sunday. I always get the buffalo shrimp which is so good that I am unable to ever order anything else. I get them medium, but I have tried the mild and there's really no distinguishable difference. I'm not sure if that's a fluke or if they just always taste identical. Anyways, the fries come super seasoned and are like Wing Stop fries (except always on point- sorry WS). The fried fish is also really good, so I might come order it on the side with my buffalo shrimp when it's the daily special. My family members like the saucy, bagged stuff but I can't speak on that unless I can straight up order just sausage in my bag (please say yes). This has quickly become a family favorite! read more

Omg im so glad we came here , my husband and I didn't not want to give up on shell shack seasoning since it's sooo good but have had way too many bad experiences at the Dallas location !!!! Unlike Dallas my appetizer actually got here as an appetizer with our drink less then 5 mins . Our food got there it was unfortunately too spicy for me . I didn't want to make it a big deal since it was my husband's birthday the next day but he saw I just couldn't eat it . Levi our server got the job done went back and made it less spicy . I would give this a higher rating but it's super hit or miss, you will either have some perfect delicious saucy food or it will be too dry, they will forget something or it just won't be right in some way, service is amazing and they will always fix the problems as well as possible, ambiance is decent nothing special. She was a pretty chick, but she seemed really ... unwelcoming. I've been several times, so I know the menu back and forth. I'm fairly new to oysters--just got into them earlier this year. I asked her how they were. She said she didn't know because she doesn't eat them. Not the answer I expected, but hey. I then asked what she would recommend. She kinda rolled her eyes and asked what I was in the mood for. I came to Shell Shack, dude! And I just asked about oysters. Just maybe I'm wanting some SEAFOOD. My friend saw my dismay so she quickly jumped in and ordered. After mulling over the menu, I ordered oysters, shrimp, catfish and crawfish. The crawfish and shrimp were piping hot. The catfish with fries and fried oysters were possibly room. Maybe they pulled them outta the fridge. All I know is that the temperature affected the food and made it kind of blahhh. I have been going to shell shack for YEARS, but this will be my last time going. My sister was visiting from overseas and the first place she requested to go to is shell shack. When we went and were seated, we noticed that our server, COURTNEY, was not having a great day. We did not think too much of it, until this started being reflected on us. When we started getting the food, we asked for silverware (normal, right?). Well then the server very aggressively hands us each a fork and a knife. We're still not sure what's happening.. We then place our order and my father asks the server TWICE to ensure to remove the sausage and to not mix it with the corn and potatoes for religious purposes. After a while, my mother asks whether the food would be ready soon and the server responds with attitude saying "don't you see Im the only server here!!!". Well, we saw that they are short staffed but none of the other servers are acting the way she was acting towards us. Anyway, we ignore her horrible demeanor. As she brings out the food, we notice that she held the bag of corn and potatoes open and went back to the kitchen then came out again and served us our food. We proceed to eat our food, but as I was grabbing the corn, I notice that there IN FACT IS SAUSAGE and do not eat from it because we do not eat food mixed with sausage. The server comes to ask if we need a box for the corn, my sister proceeds to say that she's disappointed of what has happened so far and that there's sausage in the food. The server responds with "SO YOU DON'T WANT A TO GO BOX???" And grabs the food with no explanation or an apology for the mistake. She then gets the check and THROWS IT AT THE TABLE. (Video cameras will prove this). We are so shocked by this horrible service and have tried to be super patient with the server. However, she has reflected to us multiple times that we were not welcome whether or not this was intentional this is how we felt. We asked to speak to a manager, and I hold the check with my card to pay but waiting for the manager. She comes my way and asks "DO YOU WANT ME TO RUN THE CHECK FOR YOU??" And I say "no, Im waiting for the manager", she responds with "IF YOU THINK THE MANAGER IS GOING TO TAKE OFF ANYTHING FROM YOUR CHECK, HE'S NOT GOING TO DO THAT" and blasts away from me. I respond with the fact that I do in fact want to pay for my food but I am waiting for the manager. THIS WAS THE MOST DISRESPECTFUL COMMENT EVER. HOW and WHY did she assume that I DID NOT want to pay for my food. I HAVE NEVER HAD A SERVER SPEAK TO ME THIS WAY BEFORE AND WAS MIND BLOWN WITH HER AUDACITY TO BE SO INCREDIBLY RUDE WITH EVERYTHING SHE DID. On August 5th I took 3 of my out of town guest to the Plano location, our server never wrote down any of our orders and he totally screwed our orders up. I was full after eating my appetizers so I asked the server Joshua to wrap up my VIP boil to go. When one member of my group who received lemon pepper complained that her food was too spicy he corrected her order. I said to him are you sure that I do not have her order because I orders the spicy kitchen sink. He assured me that my order was correct. Well wouldn't you know the next day I went to eat my food and it was lemon pepper. I immediately called and spoke to Nigel, manager who said he would refund me for their mishap after a week I was never credited so I called and spoke to Jamel, who assured me my credit card would be credited, today, I still have not been credited. I called their corporate office, Mike voice mail is full and the phone hang up on you. No way to contact anyone at their corporate office. I paid $115.00 for my food and provided a tip for the horrible service. Since Shell shack won't admit their mistakes and make good for their servers mistake I will never patronize their establishment again. And to think I took my out of town guest here. In total we spent close to $400 and their manager will not contact me. I still have receipts and document every phone call with name, date and time that I have reached out to them. We went on a Friday night, it was pretty busy and the atmosphere was laid back. Our server, Dasia was pretty nice but some of her commentary made me and my boyfriend uncomfortable. We ordered 1/2 shrimp, and a pound of the snow crab with their signature "kitchen sink" flavor. Everything was pretty decent until the end when my boyfriend and I both bit into some bad crab that tasted like a mixture of perfume and chemicals. We went back to Shell Shack on Sunday 4/28. I took the President of the company up on his offer to make it right and I am so glad I did. We were immediately seated and greeted by our server/bartender Dominic. We were starving so we ordered the calamari for an appetizer. It came out hot and fresh with a large serving--add fries and this could be a meal. I love their tartar sauce too! We still hadn't had any crawfish this season so we ordered 2 pounds of crawfish with the kitchen sink seasoning (the best!). I love their buffalo shrimp so I got that as well. We ordered 2 drinks--the hurricane and the shell shack mama. Both were good, and definitely had that kick where you don't "feel it" until 30 minutes after you finish so be careful! Dominic continued to check on us throughout the meal bringing more condiments and explaining the hand washing station (amazing!). The manager came up after we finished to see how they did this time and I had nothing to say but glowing compliments. The food was so good that we had literally cleaned our plates. And more importantly, the service was perfect and memorable. I do think some of the items are a little overpriced for market prices (-1 star). Tonight the air was filled with several unhappy customers voicing their dislike fir the food and drinks. Let's start out with the couple to the right if me, had a mixed drink that was too strong, asked for something else and the manager told them they couldn't exchange it. The lady to the right had to order her food twice and after the second time, said forget it. He shrimp was over cooked and chewy. Now for our food. We ordered bairdi crab that has gone way up in price and severely over priced for how it was served. And we ordered a pound of the grill shrimp Two of my faves at the Shell Shack, normally. Our shrimp was hard to peel, which means one of two things, either its been sitting and old or over cooked. I will go with over cooked. Our over priced crab, had little crab meat as when you over steam crab, it shrinks and becomes rubbery. This was the case. I rate this a 1 on the Crackers and Beans rating scale. read more

It's a family favorite, but for me I'm not a huge fan of the crab swimming in the bag of sauce. It's the whole concept that I haven't been a fan of, but I'm going to review based off of the quality of seafood and service. I have gotten the soft shell crab, cheeseburger, and fried shrimp in my previous visits, and they have all been delicious. Surprisingly, for a seafood place they have excellent burgers! When I got the crab I asked for it dry, and it was great. For those who love the sauce, I hear that it's great compared to other similar restaurants. Everything is very fresh, and if you're going during crawfish season you're going to get HUGE crawfish! It's some of the largest and best quality I've seen outside of Louisiana.
