This was my very first time eating Yemen food so I was really excited. My eating companion and I arrived on a Thursday evening and pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves upon arrival. We sat in one of the private areas enclosed with a curtain with the sofa and pillows very low to the ground. It was very cozy. It was a little chilly because it seemed some of the staff were unloading a shipment from outside so we kept feeling the breeze of the outside air. I think one of my favorite things was the tea. The black tea was ah-mazing! It was the perfect blend of spices and sweetness. I wanted a large cup of that tea to go. And now for the food. I went with my friend who's from Yemen so he did all the ordering. I just sat back and enjoyed everything. I'll do my best to describe what we had though. The first thing up was what resembled a lentil type soup with a salas-like accompaniment to add to the soup with fresh lemons. It was very tasty and very fresh. Next, we were brought out a dip-type meaty dish in a black, hot dish that was sizzling upon drop-off. You dipped your bread in it and ate it just like that with your hands. There was also a beige-type dish made of beans, I believe, that you could add to the meaty dip if you pleased. I didn't too much care for this one but my friend really enjoyed it. And the bread was so good and non-stop. I think I probably ate about three whole pitas by myself. Next up was a dish with lamb, multi-colored rice, and potatoes and peppers smothered in gravy. This was also very good and filling. Lastly, for dessert, we had a dish made up small pieces of bread, topped with a yogurt-topping with honey. It was very rich but really flavorful. And the service was great! Everything came out super fast and was the right temperature. If you've never been here before and want to taste authentic Yemen food, I'd highly recommend it!

Basically demolished lamb. Was too hungry to take photos first. Oops.

Pros: Food, waitstaff, seating. Food was excellent, large portions, authentically Yemeni. Had fahsa, marag, lamb haneeth, and some tea. All very very good. Waitstaff was good, tentative, respectful. Seating is awesome. One side of the restaurant is for traditional seating with curtains, for women and families, who wish to eat in privacy (floor seating). The other side of the restaurant is a traditional Western style dining area. Plenty of good parking outside, too. I highly recommend this place for anyone who enjoys Yemeni food, especially for families. The tables are covered with plastic, so don't feel embarrassed eating with your hands. Believe me, it's best eaten this way. Cons: Location. Middle of nowhere location just out of town. Decor is also lacking. Also note: a lot of the photos on here are from the Sheeba on Michigan Ave and are not accurate depictions of this location.

    Meat & Eggs w/no meat

Good food, horrible service! Paid $10 for what basically looks like a veggie omelet, because apparently they don't have meat at the Dix location. That's right folks, this kid looked me dead in the eye and said they have no meat at all in the whole restaurant lol. Keep in mind Meat &Eggs is on the menu. This was my takeout experience, so I definitely wouldn't recommend dining in.

My experience at Sheeba is like no other. This is not your typical Middle Eastern restaurant. Yemenese food does not have your garden variety - shawarmas, falafel , hummus. But what it does offer is meat...hunks of the most tender meat I have ever had in my life. The ambience is strange, it's definitely hole in the wall kind of place. I went with a Non-middle Eastern person and we were the only non-Arabic speaking people at the restaurant. They divided the restaurant into sections, one section in the back for families and the regular section where I was also the only woman at the restaurant. I know friends of mine have warned me about that, I personally didn't experience any harassment or any major stares and the restaurant staff was nice to us. But again, if you are female, I probably would go with at least one male companion. Got the platter for 2 to share, portion size is totally off the charts. It's great for trying different types of meat. Also, the platter size comes with your choice of soup or salad. They have raised the price on the platters sometime recently as the menu on Yelp is slightly outdated (now $29.99). The lamb haneeth is my favorite, amazingly well cooked lamb with great flavoring. We couldn't finish most of the rice. Also, the meat/rice is meant to be eaten with your fingers and soft warm flat bread that they provide judging by what the other patrons were doing but thankfully they gave us utensils. Overall, it's an authentic experience that will may make you feel out of your comfort zone but the food is really worth it.

Lamb and Chicken Hanith over Rice
    Sam L.

Had a truly fantastic meal here. Came in with a party of 11 and the staff were more than accommodating and helpful with our order. Along with the rest of this delicious feast, the lamb and chicken hanith as well as the rice it was served over is some of the best food I've had in Michigan. Will definitely be back!

Sometimes inconstant but great food. Lamb so tender you can chew with your lips.

Food was amazing, though the service is a little questionable and the place was infested with flies, the food made up for it!

Fantastic food. Best lamb ever. A bit pricy, but not unreasonable for the amount of food you get.

The owners are incredibly kind and make you feel appreciated as a customer, which really stands out. The food is pretty good overall, with solid Middle Eastern flavors and generous portions. One small thing I've noticed is that occasionally the bread comes out a bit cold, but it's a minor issue and hasn't taken away from the overall experience. Between the warm hospitality and consistently good food, LaPita is definitely a spot worth stopping by when you're in Dearborn.

They started us off with complimentary plain bread, which felt a bit basic without even a touch of garlic or flavoring. The place didn't have a dedicated drinks menu, but the server mentioned she could make anything we wanted, which sounded promising. However, the drinks didn't quite live up to expectations. The margaritas ($12) were quite diluted, and the $7 mocktails were underwhelming. For food, we ordered the Chicken Kabob Dinner, Shawarma Platter, and Spicy Man-Usha. Both the Chicken Kabob Dinner and Shawarma Platter came with two sides : we chose fattoush salad, Greek salad, and grilled vegetables. The grilled vegetables were done really well, and the shawarma platter was enjoyable. However, the chicken kabob was disappointingly dry, and the Spicy Man-Usha, despite sounding exciting, turned out quite bland. Overall, it was an okay experience, pleasant enough for a casual visit, but not something that would make us go out of our way to return.

Bab Al-Yemen is the latest Yemeni restaurant to open in the same building that used to house…read moreArabian Village Restaurant and Hadramout Restaurant after the former changed ownership. We were craving their buttery rashoosh and savory fahsah and decided to drop by again without knowing that the previous business had closed. While we were surprised that another restaurant had taken over, we decided to give the new place to try. At Bab Al-Yemen, you order at the front counter and pick your own seats. Each table is covered with a plastic sheet to make cleanup easier for the staff. The waiter will bring out your food, and when you are done, you go back to the counter to pay. At the start of the meal, the waiter brings out complimentary bowls of lamb broth and sahawiq. Lamb Broth (Complimentary) - This is a rich lamb bone broth spiced heavily. The spice blend is pleasant, but gives you a bit of kick in the back of the throat. They give slices of lemon on the side to add acidity - it actually does help to tamper down some of the spiciness, and allows more of the natural lamb meat flavor to make it's way up. (4/5) Kabsah Chicken ($14.99) - This was the first time I've had this dish. It's almost like a Middle Eastern fried rice - exceptionally tender chicken mixed in richly spiced rice. The chicken seems to be pretty similar to what you might see in a Mandi, but is chopped up into small pieces. This is not boneless - instead, there are small bones and cartilage pieces scattered throughout the dish which you have to painstakingly pick out. In addition, there's a rich mix of spices, including cloves, whole coriander seeds, and small shards of cinnamon bark that is embedded in the rice. It's certainly an adventure trying to figure out what's edible or not. To be honest, we found the dish to be way too spiced - it's hard to detect any of the natural rice or chicken flavors over the overwhelming amount of spices. It just felt like we were eating straight spice. I'm not sure if I don't like kabsah in general, or I don't like this restaurant's rendition of this dish. (2/5) Fahsah Meat ($15.99) - The fahsah served at Bab Al-Yemen consists of tender shredded lamb meat in a tomato-based stew, mixed with vegetables. The lamb isn't shredded as well as some other places, leaving some pieces that are larger chunks, and some pieces that feel a bit slippery. The meat is mixed with what appears to be small pieces of possibly squash or zucchini. There isn't enough sauce mixed in, so some portions of the meat are a bit dry. The fahsah is served with hilbeh on the side, in this instance what seems to be pure fenugreek, leaving a strong, raw, earthy flavor. Only a tiny bit of the hilbeh goes a very long way. (4/5) Rashoosh ($3.99) - This is a large flatbread that is baked fresh in a tannur. The version served here is for the most part as thin as a crepe, which allows the bread to cook to a delicate crisp. It's folded over on one of the sides, and on the overlapping crust on the bottom, the texture is a bit doughy and bready and tastes undercooked. The rashoosh is sprinkled with nigella seeds after baking, which means they flake off quite easily as you tear into the bread. Since most portions of the bread are so thin and crisp, it's not able to be folded over to pick up food. (3/5) Overall the food isn't bad, although, to be brutally honest, I preferred the Yemeni food at the previous restaurant in this building. With that being said I'd say to give this place a try; you might enjoy it more than me. This location seems to be pretty much a revolving door of Yemeni restaurants. Hopefully things stabilize and Bab Al-Yemen stays here for a long time to come. Bathrooms - Two individual rooms, one for men, one for women, in the back. Note: Like most other traditional restaurants in the area, there's only bottled water/drinks available for purchase. Overall rating of the food this visit: 3.25/5
