The sandwich came with tasty sliced, marinated beef, with garlic sauce, onions, tomatoes, and pickles. I ordered at the counter and was able to find a table to sit immediately. We were in the area and wanted some Mediterranean food and saw this place with good reviews. Apparently, it was their reopening day after closing for 2 months due to COVID-19. We decided to grab the gyro value meal as well as the vegetarian salad plate. The gyro meal came with fries and a coke but since they didn't have any cold cokes, we asked of we can get extra fries instead. The gyros was fat and juicy and flavorful. The fries was cooked nicely and tasted well. Portion was very generous. The salad was a little unexpected to me. I think it would have been better if we got the plate instead of the salad. It was all very mushy in texture and needed something to absorb all the juices as the salad didn't cut it. Overall, service was good and it was fast. It's very rare these days to find food for $10 or less, but Shawarma King has it and it's delicious. I've been here several times, and on my recent visit, I stopped by after a basketball game that ended late. I got there around 11:30pm on a weekday. Luckily for me, they don't close until 2:30am and it's fitting that they're right next to the bar on the Ave.When I got there, I was the only customer. I already knew what I wanted, but looking at the menu, there were a lot of options. The Mixed Grill looked good, which basically had all the meats: beef, lamb, chicken, and kofta kabab, but I was craving sandwiches. The Gyro sandwich was $8.99 and the Shawarma sandwich was $9.99. Great deals! Oh, to eat in a college town. I ordered both to go and after tax and tip, it came out to be around $25. The Gyro sandwich had everything in it including beef, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and sprigs of parsley, which is different than other Gyro sandwiches I've had. The Shawarma sandwich had lamb with garlic sauce and onions. I ate both at home as I was hungry after the game and I slept so well. I thought the Gyro sandwich was more substantial. I really liked the pita they used and if I had to do it over again, I'd probably go with two Gyros next time. I'll definitely be back again. I love that they're open late because I'm a night owl. The Lamb Shank on the menu sounds interesting. I rarely see that on the menu, so I might need to try that next as well as the Kofta Kabab. If you're looking for a late night spot to soak up some of that alcohol, this is the spot. Just make sure to be nice to the staff. I wouldn't like serving drunk millenials at 2am either. read more

I got the chicken shawarma plate doordashed to me. It was ok, overall the whole plate was under seasoned. The hummus wasn't very impressive, and there was none of the garlic sauce like the menu said it would have. The shawarma is worth getting, the kebabs not so much. Got the beef shawarma sandwich, Greek fries, and mixed grill plate (kebabs). The beef shawarma is flavorful, chewy, and delicious. It's even better if you sneak a few fries in with a bite. I'd suggest getting some extra sauce on the side though. The Greek fries are pretty good, but need a little more seasoning. They are topped with sauce and feta, and need to be eaten immediately so they don't get soggy on you. The mixed grill had mixed reviews. The rice was fluffy, had a rich flavor, and was perhaps the best thing about the dish. The best meat was the chicken, which was spiced well. The lamb was a bit too tough, and the ground beef kibbeh was way too tough and chewy from being over worked. I also felt like the hummus was a bit heavy on the tahini, but that could just be me. Overall, I'd be willing to find back, but would probably limit myself to the shawarma dishes. read more

Yummy Mediterranean food, with the friendliest employees on the Ave! We came to Shawarma King for dinner where you order at the counter and take a seat until it's ready. Since we weren't sure what to order with the range of menu items Shawarma King offers, the employee smiled, gave us a menu and told us to take a seat and take our time. It was a nice first impression. My boyfriend and I decided to both order the Mixed Grill Special, which is one of the House Specials. We both wanted to try the different kinds of meats the plate offers. When we ordered upfront, the cashier warned us that it would take 30 minutes, which it did. Everyone who ordered after us got their plates before us, so it gives you an idea that this particular plate takes longer to make with the three meats they cook. The Mixed Grill Special was a wonderful dinner! In addition to the three meats: beef kofta, lamb and chicken, there was rice, hummus, salad and pita bread. It was certainly a large plate, so would recommend for anyone who's super hungry! Of all the meats, I actually liked the beef kofta the most, with the herb seasonings. And you could tell it was freshly housemade. The chicken was also super tender and had a nice hint of lemon flavor to it. The lamb was not bad, yet it was overcooked, so was a little tough on the texture - but not overly so where it was hard to eat. After you're done with your meal, you pay at the counter where the friendly staff asks how everything was. I saw that with every person who walked in and out - the staff made sure to "hi/bye" everyone, no matter how busy the place got during the dinner hour we were here. I did order 2 Kofta plates to go on Friday Feb 2nd 2024. I was impressed with the food, the kofta was grilled very nicely (not burned), the salad had more ingredients than before, there was a touch of olive oil on top of the hummus that added a nice flavor, pieces of pickles were added for no extra charge (this is a new addition to the plate). Shared a shawarma plate and the two of us could not finish the mountain of food. Everything tasted very good. The dish came sprinkled with sumac, which I love. Cheerful service. Everything we've ordered has been super flavorful & if you order an entree plate, most of the time it will serve as 2 meals since the portion size are generous. The hours are crazy, everyday from 11am to 2am, perfect for late night bites! What's even cooler is that, it's still good even when you're not coming in drunk hours. Their meats are tender and juicy and all in all good eats. For around $10 you can get yourself a great meal. Only $1.50 to add drink and fries to any sammy. Their fries are standard krinkle cut. Nothing fancy but not terrible. The staff is always friendly and it's easy enough to place a to go order. I will note the place is not huge so if it's crowded it may be hard to find a seat. The fries themselves were fine, but the toppings really made it great and I think it's a combination of toppings that more people should try. The service was alright. It seems like they make the food in batches so there might be a pause between orders being ready, and then suddenly they turned out a bunch of things in rapid succession.
