The staff is very nice and accommodating. Lots of food choices, full bar, nice dining room. It was busy but pleasant. We had blackened tacos, crab cake and calamari baskets, and 3 bloody Mary's. I loved sharkbites, until today. My daughter and I went for dinner and we both were disappointed. Pros: the ahi poke was still good,the service was still great, the atmosphere was good. Cons: I'm sorry you felt the need to tell me about your divorce and how bad things were done before. I'm not originally from here and don't know of or care about drama. Just wanted a nice dinner. Thank you for asking our opinions. The food was better proportioned at previous visits and for most part better prepared. We requested oysters to be xtra crisp, sent back and they were still warm and gooey. When asked for soy to go with wasabi and ahi, just get it.. they go together, thanks for your opinion tho. OH MY GAWD!!! This little hole in the wall has phenomenal food and drinks! Hubby and I walked from the hotel (Best Western Holiday Inn). We had Clam Chowder, Halibut and Chips, and house salad. The clam chowder was so smooth and creamy and is gluten-free. It is one of the best clam chowders we have ever had. The halibut is house beer battered. It was so crisp and flaky and the flavor was awesome! And it wasn't greasy. At All! The fries are house cut and perfect. Tarter sauce and blue cheese both made in house and very very good! Well, they're back open and the food seems to be as good as ever, which is a relief. Consistency and creativity are two things that I always look for in restaurants and SharkBite's has both. My only complaint is the Lackadaisical Way that they deal with Covid restrictions. We are under a state wide mask mandate and even though every person standing in line had a mask on, only one of the staff did.It was the primary subject of the people standing in line, and two couples turned around and left once they realized what was going on. I made my order to go but I'm not sure I'm going to go back until Things calm down next year or shark bite starts thinking about the safety of its customers. 4 stars for the food, minus 1 star for the covid issue. read more

Wow, this place so over rated, but I find many of the eating establishments in Coos Bay similar. They smell a tourist entering the place. Bottom line, I was charged 69.00 for a seafood combo, crab cakes and a bowl of watered down chowder. My mistake not noticing what I paid until afterwards. Only reason I gave it two stars was do to the French fries, which were pretty good. I savored every last one at this price. Hope the waitress who took my order enjoyed the "tip." read more

My family and I stopped in to have lunch while we were visiting out of town. We all thought the food was ok, a lot of it, except maybe the oyster basket which my son found disappointing. I liked the looks and vibe of the cafe, but perhaps they could sweep the food from previous diners a bit more frequently. Other than that, I'd say a fair experience with no deep need to return. I'd recommend less food at a slightly lower pricing but I guess folks see value in quantity so we may be a rare opinion. I'm a broke college student so I'm not that picky, but this was reallllly bad. The fish and chips were ok, but I could tell it was frozen and not fresh. The worst was the shrimp cocktail; the shrimp was very over cooked and served in a lump right in the bowl of cocktail sauce! Food was fresh. Ordering at the counter was weird, but delivered and drinks were good. Pricey but great food.

Not sure why they have such a weird set-up for ordering. You wait in line to place your order, then you wait for a table, then we waited for a REALLY long time for our food. Then different people brought us the food that got forgotten with our order, our water, and then we had to ask the miscellaneous people walking by to bring us the other stuff they forgot, like ketchup for fries, a fork, etc. We ordered a bowl of clam chowder, which tasted great but basically had about 4 little dinky clams and we never did find any potatoes. We mentioned to the head guy and he said that is just how it's made, and graciously took it off our bill. The clam chowder had great flavor, it just was not what you'd expect when you order clam chowder at the coast. The halibut was good, the fried prawns and onion rings were greasy and salty. Really wanted to love this place, but the whole serving set-up was just weird and we didn't have a 5 star experience with the food. This one was just okay...we ordered the clam chowder and the crab cake sandwich. Both were decent but not what you would imagine for a little surf shop restaurant right on the coast. Our expectations simply were not met, but I'm glad we tried it! The clam chowder was good but not served hot. We ate right at 11:30 am so you would think soup would definitely be hot and fresh then. Otherwise, it had good flavor. The crab cake tasted great but was pancake-thin! Definitely not enough for a sandwich, which ended up being 85% bun. It would have been so good if it was a typical hearty crab cake, especially for a coastal restaurant that makes no sense and frankly seems a little cheap of them. You could barely taste the flavor in it because it was so thin, but we finally took it off the bun and had it plain which was so good but not enough food for the price. read more

I was pretty hype to find this place, but it was a major let down. The service was super slow, we waited for 40 minutes before we got our food. I never got a single refill of my water the whole meal. The person I was eating with had to ask 5x to get his Pepsi refilled and it never happened. The Kalamari was like chicken strips (not crunchy at all), the clam chowder was like water. You could basically drink it. The saving grace was the halibut fish tacos, but even then there was hardly any sauce on them. Pretty dry. We had to wait another 20 minutes after we ate for our check. Great find while traveling thru Coos Bay and hankering for fish n chips... extra sweet that we showed up during Happy Hour (3-5 pm), and that my cocktail (Paloma) and spouse's excellent looking black bean burger & fries, as well as my mini crab cake salad & battered cod, were on the discount menu!! Wow. Been in lots of times. Food is always awesome.. but who would have expected to find a grilled cheese and tomato soup lunch that tasted homemade? I ask for bacon on my grilled cheese and it's always, "Sure!" and the bacon is yummy and plentiful. MY HUSBAND LOVES THE FISH TACOS. Could use an extra crab cake, only time I left hungry. Hey, how about offering pineapple, or apple, or cranberries or some fruit in the coleslaw to jazz it up. Coos Bay has the most boring cole slaws and that would set you apart! and it's delicious. This small restaurant on the main downtown drag (S. Broadway aka Hwy 101) is conveniently located in a little pocket of restaurants near the embarcadero. It has a hip, trendy feel with the string lighting, assortment of seemingly random tables and chairs, and quaint decor. While the food was good (average fish & chips and good halibut burger) and prices reasonable, the service was plainly average. We got a good indication of the service to come when our party of 2 took approximately 20 minutes to be seated at one of the three 2-top tables along the front window, while there were three vacant and clean 4-top tables sitting open in the middle of the dining floor. In fact a line of 3 more couples formed behind us while those 3 larger tables sat idle and we all stood around waiting for one of the three 2-tops to finally open up. Apparently it's their policy to not sit couples at a table that could maybe, possibly be used for a foursome at some point in the evening? Weird. Our waiter was not terribly attentive either, getting water refills or clearing our empty plates and only checked in with us once during the entire meal before dropping off the check. While not a bad experience, we had better fish & chips at another popular spot in Coos Bay, and we'll likely skip SharkBites the next time we're in Coos Bay. read more

The local food movement is where Oregon is at. SharkBites has a lot of potential to cultivate a good following and reputation if they make a few small improvements. We stopped in for a late lunch the other day and were rather famished. I had read that the seafood is the best option as there seemed to be a lot of disappointed reviews for non-seafood items on the menu. I ordered two crab cakes on a mixed green salad. I was told the crab cakes are loaded w/ crab and not a lot of filler (breading). Well, not really true. The crab cakes were pretty typical....very well shredded crab (not little lumps which reflect plentiful and frankly, local in my opinion) in a dough w/ bits of red pepper, seasoned and crusty outside. You have to have a lot of dough to get them to look like mine did. Breading isn't even necessary to make crab cakes if you wanted to go to that extreme (a little bar in the Benson Hotel in Portland made lump Dungeness crab cakes w/ NO breading- egg whites kept the crab cake together). The salad was lacking. The lettuce was nice mixed variety but the tomato looked pink and hard. Clearly not a local or even regional tomato (this time of year the last of the summer valley tomatoes are still available but not for long). This tomato was sliced like sandwich tomato and there were a few slices of avacado and a few thick rings of purple onion. Making a nice salad isn't hard (especially in Oregon where the local organic and heirloom veggie/fruit farming is booming). People who like salads want a freaking good salad. Use local quality ingredients and make some killer salad dressings. People will make this place a regular if you give the people what they want....better food than they can prepare at their own home. I would use nice quality local onions and shave them not make big freaking rings. My partner ordered the halibut tacos. Pretty sparse plate for 13.00. The taco shells he said were good. The ingredients were really bland, even the appearance was just unimpressive. Color! People want flavor and color. 2 white soft corn tortilla shells laying flat w/ some white ingredients on top w/ shaved purple cabbage looked sad. Where is the cilantro and some diced red and yellow peppers? And condiments for the taco should be on the table. Throw a few local hot sauce choices on the table.The plate had little cups of pico de gallo and black beans and then some red/blue/yellow friend corn chips. I know they make them in house, but really....get rid of the red dye chips. People who are into good food know they don't want dye in their food. Focus on quality in the chips (I wish too that restaurants wouldn't use gmo oils to fry foods in- there is a restaurant near us that uses RICE OIL to fry foods in and the oil is NON-GMO). I liked the salt and pepper mills (no more fake salt for us and grinding your own salt and pepper makes a huge difference in taste on foods). Maybe help promote some local businesses like Portland ketchup/mustard, Hot Winter hot sauce. Show visitors that you support local made products. People really want to get away from the corporate made crap. We are always looking for good restaurants to patron on the coast of Oregon. We rarely go out because most places use crappy cheap GMO ingredients and we don't eat like that at home. The only place I've found w/ some higher food standards in Coos Bay is 7 Devils Brewery. I hope that more restaurants will start supporting local organic farmers and ranchers so we can improve our economy. I get tired of eating at home all the time. read more
