Given all the hype, this place was terribly underwhelming. The world, famous crab sandwich on sourdough was fair to middling at best. The New England clam chowder likely came out of a can from Cisco. And I believe our biggest regret was ordering a dozen oysters. Now, I've been eating oysters for 50 years in just about every state that harvests them. These oysters are gigantic, which in itself is not a problem. However, they smelled and taste like dead fish, with the texture of soggy bread. There was absolutely no salty brine. This could indeed be a local variety that I just don't care for. But to me, they taste like they were shucked a week ago and soaked in a bucket of fishy water and put back in the shell to serve. Additionally, they were warmer than room temp and not served on ice. I only managed to swallow two before throwing in the towel. My wife who is an oyster lover, only ate one. I'd like to think that I'm wrong, but I can tell you that I regret every penny I spent there. and will certainly not go back. -so, update on the oysters. The oysters served were Coos Bay Area oysters, which are too large to serve on the half shell. They are primarily used for frying. We thought we met Tony but it turned out to be John the it all guy around the restaurant. We had a funny experience with him while he was holding a crab showing it to my friend. I had never had Dungeness crabs so I really wanted to try it here. Bandon is a great place to try fresh Dungeness crabs. We stopped at the dock and saw many people catch fresh crabs and clean them there. This place came highly recommended. The whole crab was about $55. We opted for crab sandwich. Tony's is a must stop place if you're in Bandon. We enjoyed creamy clam chowder, a delish lobster roll with plenty of lobster in, steamer clams in a rich broth deserving of dipping their garlicky bread into, oysters on the half shell (they were a little too big and mushy for us and we have eaten a lot of oysters), and rockfish tacos. Unfortunately they were out of Dungeness crab, so that was a bummer, but it wasn't something under their control. You can also rent crabbing equipment and bait right from their store and harvest your own crabs from the dock just behind the restaurant. They'll even cook it for you for a very reasonable price. Greeted right away by a friendly old guy with a great vibe. Super nice! Showed me the menus and specials and said the girl at the window can take my order when I'm ready. I opted for the fish tacos and boy they did not disappoint. Lightly fried tortilla and fresh fish with plenty of cabbage and onions and cilantro. I was a little worried about the TNT sauce on the side, but it was da bomb sauce! Order 2! I was stuffed but I got them down. Would absolutely recommend. I was looking for good fish tacos on the Oregon Coast near Bandon and Tony's seemed to have the best reviews. I'm not sure why. I walked into what looked like a......souvenir shop? One half looked like a low rent tourist shop and the other half was a tiny window and only a few spots to sit. Definitely not what I was expecting. The fish looked like cat food, all chopped up and mixed in with the cabbage and cream that tasted so much like mayo I thought I was served tuna salad for a second. They were then served on the most anemic looking tortillas ever with the blandest pico de gallo ever. No salt, all mayo flavor. Tacos like this are why people say there aren't any good tacos in Oregon. Well... meh. Maybe I caught the early-season order-taker dude. He didn't know where my clams came from. They clams came on a paper plate, but at least it was a thick paper plate. Super good food and a fun authentic setting. Outdoor seating means bring a raincoat if it's overcast. We were there shortly before closing at 7pm so they were out of a few things on the menu. I didn't want a full meal, so I ordered the rockfish sandwich, which had a tender slab of fish, nicely seasoned, inside. Came with a cup of clam chowder, with an intensely clammy broth: very good. I came in craving a whole Dungeness crab, shell and all, because I really enjoy the rich crab butter (tomalley) inside the head. Had the crab cakes which were as good as any I have ever had. Hubby had the crab sandwich which was good but we both agreed it was the crab cakes that stole the show. Only complaint was the slow service. There were about 4 or 5 customers in front of us and it took over 20 minutes to place our order. Frankly I'm between 4 and 5. Not quite a 5. Nice cool local place since 1995. Feels very authentic. Some inside seating, ample tables outside. I ordered the Famous crab sandwich and upgraded my side dish to Clam chowder. Both were delicious!! Lots of clams in the chowda, lots of crab between perfectly buttery San Francisco style toast on the sandwich. My friend ordered fish tacos, which she loved. Just so that you know, I walked over from your near competitors place because of their pure lack of service. I walked into their place. They looked at me and then the youth that are working there just kept talking and I was the only customer at the register waiting to order and they had everything already cooked from what it looked like for their existing customers. So I walk over to your place, which was crowded. That's not a bad thing. I came up to the counter to order and I asked the young lady what I should eat. She told me a rockfish sandwich and chowder. It was a good choice. The chowder was good and hot. Maybe a little bit too hot and the sandwich was pretty delicious. It's good to have a customer that has been around a lot to give you some kind of advice so that you can make more money. If you were possibly able to make your own bread in the morning, soft bread for your sandwiches it would go astronomically far. The only thing other thing is is I asked for fries, but they said that they don't have them. It's not difficult to get a potato cutter to do it quickly and then just fry it up real quick. Went to this location after a long and tiring drive. The service staff took 30 minutes while we were waiting in line standing to order. Then when we got to the front the person took another 10 minutes to take our order while they were running around busy with other things. Before announcing that they close in 10 and the line behind me out of the door was not happy. After this shenanigan I was asked to tip while paying 35$ for a crab cocktail and a clam chowder. The food itself was ok not great, especially for the money the clam chowder unseasoned and mine did not have a single clam meat in it. Tried out Tony's Crab Shack while visiting Bandon and had a good experience overall. The staff was friendly, the location is great, and the food we did get was definitely tasty! We were a little bummed to hear they were out of the clam chowder (which we'd heard great things about) and another menu item that sounded amazing, so that was a bit of a letdown. We ended up going with a combo platter, which was decent but didn't quite blow us away, especially considering the price. That said, seafood in a tourist town is never cheap, so we weren't too surprised. Despite that, the food was fresh, and the place has a casual, no-frills charm that's very coastal Oregon. While we really enjoy Bandon Fish Market across the way (highly recommend it too!), Tony's definitely holds its own, way better than The Wheelhouse down the road, which honestly missed the mark for us completely. After a long walk on the beach we were craving seafood & spotted Tony's. While we waited for our food the staff came by and few times to check on us, make small talk & cracked some jokes.
