PLACE DOESN'T DESERVE ONE STAR!!! Food was poor quality and tasted terrible. Drinks were fine. Took forever to get served. About 45 minutes to get the poor quality food. Asked for water several times and then it came with our check.... We were told it usually doesn't take that long, but they were understaffed. Worst place to go if you like a dog-friendly atmosphere. They literally threw my debit card and service animal registration on the floor (which by law I don't have to show)! The drinks are strong so they get 2 stars for that instead of 1. Use to have great friendly staff but now it's a bunch of power hungry bartenders and security. Takes so long to get a drink. It's a hole in the wall located in the best area of DTLB but it doesn't have the friendliness of Taco Beach right next door where you can dance and eat tacos all night lol. read more

I recently moved into the area and absolutely love this bar. It is my new hang out. When I said I was new, everyone made a point of introducing themselves to me. Very friendly, great drinks, great food. I heard it described as the "Cheers" of downtown Long Beach and I agree completely! Went upstairs and the music was whack, bunch of youngsters trying to dance which was entertaining. No table service, had to go to bar and wait to be served and place was dead! tl;dr shannon's is a place where you will get sexually harassed and the bouncer won't do anything about it. Shannons has been a go to of mine for a long time. Yeah, the bar gets crowded, it's hard to get a drink, and the bathroom line is perpetually 45 minutes long BUT I always found myself back here because I like the atmosphere, it's big and generally the patrons are chill. I went back a few weekends ago and had a decent time until I walked by a table and a man sitting at it reached out, slapped and grabbed my ass. I whipped around to see this stranger- who I hadn't interacted with at all- laughing because he had grabbed me. I was really upset and I tried to talk to him and just laughed and laughed and didn't interact with me at all. So I did what any person would do, I went to the bouncer, Matt, to tell him about it. Matt stared at me with a blank face and then asked me to get out of the way (I was standing near the entrance way). I won't lie, I got upset. I told him it sucks that he clearly doesn't care and I pointed to the man who had grabbed me and asked him why he wouldn't do anything about it. He called me rude and very literally shooed me away. If you're a woman and you're reading this you probably know what it's like to have a stranger touch you or grab you. You probably know how freaking annoying it is, how it makes you feel unsafe and uncomfortable and mad. Really mad. And this was just one of those nights where I was not having it at all. I'm sick of people not being held accountable for acting like trash. It really sucks that the bouncer at Shannon's didn't care about the safety of his patrons. And it sucks that he shooed me away and called me rude when I asked him about it. And for those reasons, I will never go to Shannon's again. A drop in the bucket, I'm sure. Stopped by this place on a Saturday night and it was fairly dead. We noticed the place was under construction and that the downstairs was closed and the pool table looked like it was off-limits. Service was just okay, our bartender clocked out after pouring our drinks and never bothered opening a tab for us, could of just left but we waited while the relief sorted through our order. First impression is just a hole-in-the-wall pub, nothing too special about the place. read more

The draft lines when we went were dirty. Modelo, Negra Modelo, and Coors all had weird rock particles floating in it that looked like calcified vomit rocks. Major turn off discovering that floating in the drink after you blindly drank it trusting an establishment wouldnt serve you filth.. We addressed this with the Bartender who shrugged it off like it was no big deal.. DIRTY DRAFT LINES ARE A BIG DEAL, that is a HEALTH ISSUE, and HEALTH CODE VIOLATION. Bartender was a little distracted - though there were only a few of us there at the time - but hey, whatevs, she got to us eventually. I reserved a table for 4 for a UFC fight on the main level. I had previously been kicked out of this place for wearing flip flops and was told I needed a collared shirt, and tonight there were a dozen other guys in there wearing flip flops or t-shirts or jerseys or baseball hats. It's an Irish bar, so I don't know why I need to show up looking like I'm attending the opera. The service was horrible. It was actually the bouncer who directed us to our table, and we waited over half an hour before we finally got up and got our drinks from the bar. There were 2 servers, and when we told one of them we'd like to order our food she said, "Yeah, sure, just give the order to whoever is walking by". Then she walked off. We wanted to give the order to her, since she was right there at the moment, but I guess that's not how they do things. We waited another 15 or so minutes before we put our appetizer order in at the bar, and then about 20 minutes later we saw a new random employee walk by with our order and give it to another table. They looked confused, and we were annoyed, so I got up and grabbed it. The appetizers were fine; definitely nothing to brag about. The same guy who gave our appetizer to the wrong table took our order and about half an hour later the food came. Just based on taste, I wouldn't have guessed my turkey jalapeno cheddar sandwich had jalapeno on it. It was as bland as they come. And very small, as well. My wife got a blackened fish sandwich, and it was anything but blackened and had no flavor whatsoever. Both of us only had half of our sandwiches, intending on taking them home, but we were never even asked if we'd like a box so we just left them on the table. We asked for water refills several times to several people and never received those. It was fun watching the fights, but there were no speakers in the section we were sitting in. Literally, we couldn't hear anything except faintly coming from upstairs. This was horrible for interviews and commentators. Our booth was good, with 3 big TVs all around us, but the experience was brought down by not hearing anything coming from the TVs. Overally, we won't be returning here for food or otherwise. For what we paid in the table reservation and food/drinks, I should have just bought the PPV, made my own food, and turned up the volume on my surround sound. read more

I come here frequently and normally have a great time but yesterday I was not let in because I was "too intoxicated". My friends went in before me because I assumed they wouldn't let outside food in so I quickly finished and after he checked my ID he said he wasn't going to let me in because I was too intoxicated. He was smiling and was speaking to me in a very condescending manner. At first I thought he was joking because of his incessant smiling but then I realized he was not. He then asked me to walk in a straight line so I turned around and went around someone and he immediately said you cant even walk so no. It was like he was playing a game with me and I just wanted to meet with my friends because they had given my atm card to the bartender to get us drinks. And as a woman I was not just about to walk away alone and without means to buy anything which is what I told him. I then asked to speak to his manager and he said no and so I asked for his name which he told me was Andrew. He then walked away and left someone else at the door and that guy would've let me in except he didn't want to get "in between" whatever was going on and by that time I just wanted my card back so I could go (and getting the bartenders attention can be hard because there are so many people). I asked again for a manager and was denied and found out that Andrew lied about his name and his name was Pedro. I never raised my voice and I spoke clearly and concisely so I'm not sure what his problem was. Before arriving here I had 2 drinks over the course of two hours so I was definitely not "too intoxicated" unlike some of the other people he let in. So I don't know whether it was the color of my skin or because he didn't like my outfit. who knows but I wouldn't suggest coming here. Also after reading other yelp reviews the only other people I see talking about not getting in are other dark skinned black women so management should definitely look into that. read more

I was there with my brother 2 Saturday ago. It being his first time hitting the bar scene in downtown Long Beach. Bartenders were cool. The crowd were mellow and hyphy, which is a good thing. I enjoy the dance floor and the music the DJ was playing. I can tell that music the DJ was playing was meant to cater to everyone music taste. It's all about the vibe. With all that body heat inside, didn't really matter because I can feel the fresh cool breeze coming from the outside. Patio had a awesome view of the night life scenery. I admit I was a little tipsy. But hey I enjoyed myself. FYI the hotdog vendors in front of Shannon taste great.
