Shaka Potatoes
Vidonni G.

We went here and they have either counter or server service. We picked the counter service expecting it to be quicker but it did take a while to get our food. It looks like any decent cafe on the interior but smells really good! I got the Shaka potatoes with bacon, cheddar and sour cream to make it like a baked potato. It was so delicious! Almost like the best baked potato I've ever had! Definitely enjoyed it! Would definitely return!

Don't get fooled by the name like we did. We were looking for a place that served loco moco. We found this place and saw they opened at 7am. We were juiced. Sadly, on this rainy morning we entered it wasn't a Hawaiian place like we thought. It's a breakfast/coffee place. It was a nice open place with plenty of seating. It looked like it used to be an auto shop. They had 2 garage bays that they left, which gave it character. In one dining area by the register they had a bunch of books, almost like a library. It had a pretty cool vibe. The lady who took my order was super nice and helpful. I stuck to the order that I had already planned. I ordered: 1. Cornbeef hash: Nice chunks of Cornbeef and the potatoes were delicious 2. Cowboy hash: I loved the bbq brisket. It was tender and chunky. With the potatoes and eggs it was prefect. 3. Loco moco: This isn't the authentic kind it's just frozen hamburger patties. I would recommend skipping this. I did take the rice and egg and mixed it in with my brisket. That was a bomb combo. 4. Pancakes: For a kids size this was huge. It looked delicious. 5. French toast: 2 slices of toast cut in half. This was the perfect sampler with a side of bacon or sausage. Perfect sized kids meal. Overall, it's a great place for breakfast. I didn't take pictures but from the looks of pancake and French toast you can see that was where they shined. Their main, forte is breakfast and they do it good.

Well, I have to say, I was wrong about this place. The first time I looked at the menu, I saw the Loco Moco & thought it was Hawaiian food which, after 35 trips to the islands, I'm not a fan of. My buddy has been eating here for years and loves it so I thought I would finally give a try. He ordred the corn beef hash & I ordered the chickpea bowl with brisket. I have to say it was the best corn beef I've ever tasted and the brisket was very good, too. I mentioned it to our lovely waitress when she asked and she told me they make both in house. Well done Shakabra. There are so many things on the menu I want to try now. The whole experience was wonderful, very melloelw, relaxed, and all the staff was so helpful. It's a vert cool place. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Mac salad/coffee cake

Sadly disappointed. I was excited for a tasty coffee cake.i got a frozen coffee cake in a plastic sealed ampm frozen looking bag. Please stop selling this item. This is terrible. Mac salad. Tasted sour, tons of salt. I spit out the bite in a napkin. Loco Moco, worst thing I've had. Zero seasoning on the meat, eggs were milky white, gravy tasted like sugar and there was hardly any gravy. The meat, pretty sure freezer burnt and as thing as cardboard. This was so disappointing.

It smells so good in here!!! The upholstery leaves something to be desired. Some of the chairs will cut you they are so worn out. The service is great. The team was quick to our table. The food was a mixed lot. Every plate had bacon that was crisp and bacon that was still almost floppy undercooked. The potatoes stole the show! Crazy good! Overall it was good. The coffee was great for me, and my cup was always full! Great service, great coffee, good food

Shakabrah is a down to earth chill place to have brunch in the Tacoma Area. Make sure you are prepared as they can have a long line but that should say you're entering an experience of delicious food, great staff and a cozy atmosphere.

One of the best places to have breakfast in Tacoma. Service and food were amazing as always. The corn beef hash is a must try!!!

A truly locals breakfast/early lunch spot(closes at 1:30pm). A little Tacoma grunge for wall art and local arts to see in the area for ambiance. Service has always need good and steady and food is basic breakfast fare. What I have enjoyed is to make a two egg scramble with the al-carte sides mixed in so that protein and veggies are the main focus for me. There is a small bar in the back in case you need that extra Bloody Mary to get you through the morning.

I really enjoy coming here weekday mornings. Not packed, great food, good music and pleasant service. The corned beef hash is my go too

Mochiko Chicken Plate lunch Shaka Potatoes

Ordered the Mochiko Chicken Plate lunch and Pork Belly Plate Lunch - I give this a 2 because they were really salty and the pork belly tasted like old meat. I'm born and raised from Guam and their take on finadene is not close to what it should be. Finadene consists of soy sauce, lemon juice/lemon powder, chili peppers and vinegar. The finadene they had was more like a marinade and it was served hot? I'm sure their breakfast plates taste very good but we came here for lunch and honestly, the lunch plates were not it. The cucumber salad was also soggy and had a bitter taste to it and It tasted like they put thousand island dressing on it. Mac salad was alright - very heavy on the carrots and very little flavor. I'd come to this place again but maybe just to have breakfast food.

It had been several years since I had visited. I had recalled very good food. I was a bit disappointed this visit, it's not quite how I remembered the food. Food was mediocre and I left a substantial amount on my plate. It just didn't taste that good. Service was adequate and server friendly. Ambiance is quirky. I'll most likely return in a few years to retry.

Great place, little noisy, but good food, and great service. Definitely recommend it for breakfast, lunch. Closes early afternoon I believe.

On our most recent visit we tried the nachos, and they were honestly the best nachos I've ever had. The cheese sauce is amazing- not some gross canned stuff. The chicken is perfectly seasoned, and the ingredients are layered throughout so you're not stuck with a bunch of plain chips. It feels silly to be gushing about nachos, but they are next level. It's not cheap, but well worth it!

Dirty Oscar's Annex - Disappointing Experience on 6th Ave…read more We came in as a group of seven, and unfortunately the experience went downhill quickly. First, the service was poor and disorganized. One of my friends arrived early and ordered her drink, but it didn't arrive until after I had already received mine -- even after she asked twice. We also had to wait far too long for basic things like napkins and forks because we weren't given enough for everyone. The most frustrating part, however, was the automatic gratuity. At no point were we informed -- verbally or on the menu -- that parties of 6 or more are charged an automatic 20% gratuity. We only discovered it by carefully reviewing our checks. And to make matters worse, the so-called "20%" was not actually 20%. It came out to 24.1%. When we questioned it, the person who said she was the manager claimed "the computer does it automatically." We are a table full of teachers -- and the math was definitely not mathing. We understand and respect gratuity for large parties, especially when the service is great or when it's clearly communicated. But charging more than the stated percentage crosses from poor service into a billing integrity issue. To add to the frustration, there is also a credit card processing fee, which again was not clearly disclosed on the menu and only appeared at the bottom of the receipt. This absolutely should be visibly posted before ordering. They did offer to refund some of the charges, but we declined because it would have taken additional time and we had an event to get to -- and more importantly, it doesn't resolve the core issue of lack of transparency. She also gave each of us a $10 gift card, but again, that doesn't resolve the issue. And honestly, what good is a gift card if we don't plan on returning because of such an awful experience? Overall, this was a very disappointing visit, and not one we would recommend based on service and transparency alone.

The food stays solid, the vibe is always right, and it just feels like one of those places you can pull up to and know you're gonna have a good time. The food is my favorite part. I can have a beer anywhere, but the food is actually pretty on point minus the nachos, sad to say. Always overcooked, cheese is hardened and well beyond melted, but a massive portion in size. The sandwiches are amazing, the quesadillas are amazing, have yet to make it there before breakfast ends but I'm betting it's probably pretty good. Staff are friendly, efficient, and do well on checking to make sure you're not waiting too long for service without being too bothersome. It gets a little loud, busy and crowded on nights especially on the weekends, but that's typical bar atmosphere. Patio seating is nice on sunny days like today. 5/5 for a hometown spot in the neighborhood.

We were out celebrating my buddy's birthday today, and started out next door for some smokes and drinks. I had a plan for some choices for his bday dinner, and he opted with Ms. Jane's inside BJ's Casino. First off... this place is very elegant with a fine dining experience. Secondly, Cassandra was absolutely superb!! We all thoroughly had an amazing experience, from the drinks, appetizers, to our entrees, and the service. The Lavender Martini was top notch, and we also ordered the White Mojito. That mojito was crisp and refreshing! Two spectacular cocktails. As for our meals, undeniably unbelievable!! I ordered the 12oz. Ribeye, with Garlic Potatoes and crisp Broccolini. So crisp and a unique almost vinaigrette flavoring, with a subtle spice. As a side, we ordered the Thousand Layer Potato. My first time ever having this, but seen how it was made on a video. Simply divine. My wife ordered the Braised Bison over Polenta, with some Carrots. This is the tastiest Bison we've ever had!! We finished the evening with a Dubai Chocolate Fudge Sunday, and Cassandra gave us each a spoon to share in this decadence. Needless to say, my buddy had an incredible day of celebration! Turns out it's the former, at least in atmosphere. The service was genuinely lovely from start to finish. The host, server, and table assistants were warm and attentive. No notes there. We went with the ribeye prix fixe, which felt like the obvious call given that Ms. Jane's has built its reputation around it. The menu included a salad, two ribeyes with mashed potatoes and broccoli, and dessert for $150 plus wine. The salad was beautiful and delicious. It just could've used some cheese, and I will die on that hill. The mashed potatoes were legitimately outstanding and nearly redeemed the entire evening on their own. The broccoli was fine. Broccoli is always just fine. Then there were the ribeyes. They were enormous, beautifully presented, and unfortunately not much else. Both cuts had an excessive amount of fat and lacked the depth of flavor you'd expect from a restaurant that's staked its identity on this one dish. We make better steaks at home, which is not something you want to be thinking about after dropping $150 before wine. Dessert closed things out on a high note. A chocolate and vanilla mousse topped with genuinely delicate whipped cream. In the moment we told ourselves we'd come back and try something else. A few days of reflection later, that enthusiasm cooled but it didn't disappear entirely. The service was too good, the mashed potatoes too memorable, and the mousse too solid to write the place off completely. Ms. Jane's clearly has something going on. We just hope the ribeye isn't the thing they're most proud of.

Finally got a chance to try it at noon today, and it was a great experience! Environment: The overall vibe is very American. There were TVs on the walls constantly playing various ball games, like today's playoff game between the Thunder and the Lakers. It was pretty busy on the weekend, especially the outdoor seating area, which was almost full. The building is an old structure dating back to the 1900s. Though it shows its age, it's very clean both inside and out--you can tell the owner really cares. Service: Our waitress was very, very friendly and professional. She gave us great recommendations, always served with a smile, checked in on us during the meal, and refilled our water. Very satisfied! Taste: Pizza: There's a funny little story: supposedly, Marco Polo went to China and saw pies, but didn't know how to wrap the filling inside, so he just put it on top--and thus the pizza was born. Personally, I think this is a myth, or many people have started fantasizing about Marco Polo because they think he was too great. But according to various unearthed historical records in China, Marco Polo never actually went to China. In fact, around 2010, more than 20 scholars organized an event called "Retracing Marco Polo's Route." After completing the journey and comparing it to what Marco Polo himself recorded, most of them concluded that he probably never made it to China. Sorry, I have a strong urge to share--went off on a long tangent about Marco Polo. But the pizza was really delicious. It should be truly fire‑baked, not oven‑baked. The sauce was well‑balanced, and the toppings were generous and fresh. My wife and I ate more than half of it! Salad: The dressing and cheese were very generously applied, and the greens were fresh. Chicken wings: They had a pleasant sweet‑savory taste, just right. Unlike most American restaurants where they're too salty or too sweet, these were perfectly balanced. All the dipping sauces were good. Overall, highly recommended!
