Shaka Potatoes
Vidonni G.

We went here and they have either counter or server service. We picked the counter service expecting it to be quicker but it did take a while to get our food. It looks like any decent cafe on the interior but smells really good! I got the Shaka potatoes with bacon, cheddar and sour cream to make it like a baked potato. It was so delicious! Almost like the best baked potato I've ever had! Definitely enjoyed it! Would definitely return!

Don't get fooled by the name like we did. We were looking for a place that served loco moco. We found this place and saw they opened at 7am. We were juiced. Sadly, on this rainy morning we entered it wasn't a Hawaiian place like we thought. It's a breakfast/coffee place. It was a nice open place with plenty of seating. It looked like it used to be an auto shop. They had 2 garage bays that they left, which gave it character. In one dining area by the register they had a bunch of books, almost like a library. It had a pretty cool vibe. The lady who took my order was super nice and helpful. I stuck to the order that I had already planned. I ordered: 1. Cornbeef hash: Nice chunks of Cornbeef and the potatoes were delicious 2. Cowboy hash: I loved the bbq brisket. It was tender and chunky. With the potatoes and eggs it was prefect. 3. Loco moco: This isn't the authentic kind it's just frozen hamburger patties. I would recommend skipping this. I did take the rice and egg and mixed it in with my brisket. That was a bomb combo. 4. Pancakes: For a kids size this was huge. It looked delicious. 5. French toast: 2 slices of toast cut in half. This was the perfect sampler with a side of bacon or sausage. Perfect sized kids meal. Overall, it's a great place for breakfast. I didn't take pictures but from the looks of pancake and French toast you can see that was where they shined. Their main, forte is breakfast and they do it good.

Well, I have to say, I was wrong about this place. The first time I looked at the menu, I saw the Loco Moco & thought it was Hawaiian food which, after 35 trips to the islands, I'm not a fan of. My buddy has been eating here for years and loves it so I thought I would finally give a try. He ordred the corn beef hash & I ordered the chickpea bowl with brisket. I have to say it was the best corn beef I've ever tasted and the brisket was very good, too. I mentioned it to our lovely waitress when she asked and she told me they make both in house. Well done Shakabra. There are so many things on the menu I want to try now. The whole experience was wonderful, very melloelw, relaxed, and all the staff was so helpful. It's a vert cool place. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Mac salad/coffee cake

Sadly disappointed. I was excited for a tasty coffee cake.i got a frozen coffee cake in a plastic sealed ampm frozen looking bag. Please stop selling this item. This is terrible. Mac salad. Tasted sour, tons of salt. I spit out the bite in a napkin. Loco Moco, worst thing I've had. Zero seasoning on the meat, eggs were milky white, gravy tasted like sugar and there was hardly any gravy. The meat, pretty sure freezer burnt and as thing as cardboard. This was so disappointing.

It smells so good in here!!! The upholstery leaves something to be desired. Some of the chairs will cut you they are so worn out. The service is great. The team was quick to our table. The food was a mixed lot. Every plate had bacon that was crisp and bacon that was still almost floppy undercooked. The potatoes stole the show! Crazy good! Overall it was good. The coffee was great for me, and my cup was always full! Great service, great coffee, good food

Shakabrah is a down to earth chill place to have brunch in the Tacoma Area. Make sure you are prepared as they can have a long line but that should say you're entering an experience of delicious food, great staff and a cozy atmosphere.

One of the best places to have breakfast in Tacoma. Service and food were amazing as always. The corn beef hash is a must try!!!

A truly locals breakfast/early lunch spot(closes at 1:30pm). A little Tacoma grunge for wall art and local arts to see in the area for ambiance. Service has always need good and steady and food is basic breakfast fare. What I have enjoyed is to make a two egg scramble with the al-carte sides mixed in so that protein and veggies are the main focus for me. There is a small bar in the back in case you need that extra Bloody Mary to get you through the morning.

I really enjoy coming here weekday mornings. Not packed, great food, good music and pleasant service. The corned beef hash is my go too

Mochiko Chicken Plate lunch Shaka Potatoes
Roxanne M.

Ordered the Mochiko Chicken Plate lunch and Pork Belly Plate Lunch - I give this a 2 because they were really salty and the pork belly tasted like old meat. I'm born and raised from Guam and their take on finadene is not close to what it should be. Finadene consists of soy sauce, lemon juice/lemon powder, chili peppers and vinegar. The finadene they had was more like a marinade and it was served hot? I'm sure their breakfast plates taste very good but we came here for lunch and honestly, the lunch plates were not it. The cucumber salad was also soggy and had a bitter taste to it and It tasted like they put thousand island dressing on it. Mac salad was alright - very heavy on the carrots and very little flavor. I'd come to this place again but maybe just to have breakfast food.

It had been several years since I had visited. I had recalled very good food. I was a bit disappointed this visit, it's not quite how I remembered the food. Food was mediocre and I left a substantial amount on my plate. It just didn't taste that good. Service was adequate and server friendly. Ambiance is quirky. I'll most likely return in a few years to retry.

On our most recent visit we tried the nachos, and they were honestly the best nachos I've ever had. The cheese sauce is amazing- not some gross canned stuff. The chicken is perfectly seasoned, and the ingredients are layered throughout so you're not stuck with a bunch of plain chips. It feels silly to be gushing about nachos, but they are next level. It's not cheap, but well worth it!

Dirty Oscar's Annex - Disappointing Experience on 6th Ave…read more We came in as a group of seven, and unfortunately the experience went downhill quickly. First, the service was poor and disorganized. One of my friends arrived early and ordered her drink, but it didn't arrive until after I had already received mine -- even after she asked twice. We also had to wait far too long for basic things like napkins and forks because we weren't given enough for everyone. The most frustrating part, however, was the automatic gratuity. At no point were we informed -- verbally or on the menu -- that parties of 6 or more are charged an automatic 20% gratuity. We only discovered it by carefully reviewing our checks. And to make matters worse, the so-called "20%" was not actually 20%. It came out to 24.1%. When we questioned it, the person who said she was the manager claimed "the computer does it automatically." We are a table full of teachers -- and the math was definitely not mathing. We understand and respect gratuity for large parties, especially when the service is great or when it's clearly communicated. But charging more than the stated percentage crosses from poor service into a billing integrity issue. To add to the frustration, there is also a credit card processing fee, which again was not clearly disclosed on the menu and only appeared at the bottom of the receipt. This absolutely should be visibly posted before ordering. They did offer to refund some of the charges, but we declined because it would have taken additional time and we had an event to get to -- and more importantly, it doesn't resolve the core issue of lack of transparency. She also gave each of us a $10 gift card, but again, that doesn't resolve the issue. And honestly, what good is a gift card if we don't plan on returning because of such an awful experience? Overall, this was a very disappointing visit, and not one we would recommend based on service and transparency alone.

My last review was honest but a 1star- now they could have ignored it, denied it or even got rude about it- after all others have (see aspen house) But no, they reached out and asked to open up dialogue- they asked what could be done and they APOLOGIZED- ownership and accountability! The communication was on point and the definitely made good on everything! So we set out to give it another go- and seriously- I may have a new place to hang out! As a non drinker your average joint has water juice or soda- not here The selection of non alcoholic beers and the DELICIOUS MOCKTAILS!!!! A place that doesn't get upset when you order a fancy non alcoholic drink- and you get the feel of being a part of it all not just sippin a soda! Loooved ! Personally hooked on the sweet n tangy- (Sweet & Tangy DHOS Orange, lemon & lime juice, simple, & raspberry puree ) ---delicious! My partner tried a couple non alcoholic beers he didn't even know existed- excellent variety to make everyone feel a part of the crowd!! And if you love a good drink?? They only carry high end liquor and make their drinks definitely top notch! The kind of place that values quality!!! While keeping the prices competitive and honest! Now the food- BRIE- ohhhh the Brie dishes!!! Not many places create food art- creative delicious classic combos with a unique twist! Absolutely the place to check out and try a new dish! Unique items that I'm dying to go back for!!! One definitely to try-- "Apple Brie Grilled Cheese Apple chutney with caramelized onions, granny smith apple slices, brie & cheddar cheese, melted between parmesan crusted 3 Hearts Bread" yummmmmmm The best part though- the people- friendly outgoing crew that you can tell genuinely care about each other and also care about making sure that the people stopping by have a wonderful experience!!! If you're in the area or live near there- check them out- definitely the kinda place to stop in on the regular and make it a thing!!!! Can be smidge hard to find due to construction that should end soon but worth the hunt!!! A total Gem!! Good quality food, excellent service, and a 10/10 place to stop in! You won't regret supporting this small local women owned business!

I will address two concerns I had first and then get to the good stuff. My only marks on negative side of the ledger may only apply to a few folks. The on street parking on MLK Way can be tough to find and there is lots of local traffic including Sound Transit street train. We got very lucky and found two spots just three businesses down. My second concern is the metal chairs used for dining are not a good fit for my 3x body, and can be uncomfortable rather quickly. Most regular folks will have no problems. All of the menu items which is why you come to Three Hearts were absolutely fabulous. We enjoyed some pastries, muffins, croissants and coffee before getting to our breakfast choices. The breakfast sandwiches, savory Dutch baby, quiche all received high marks. The service was friendly and quick even though they were busy and cook things fresh when you order. The exterior doesn't exactly wow you at first glance... but then you get to the entrance and it completely shifts. There's this huge pink KitchenAid mixer filled with plants (which I love), and a beautiful door that pulls you right in. Inside, it's a whole different story--warm, thoughtfully decorated, and full of little details that make the space feel inviting and interesting while you dine. The menu is one of the best parts. It's unique, constantly rotating, and offers a variety of options--including some great specialty dishes you don't see everywhere. On this visit, I ordered the Lemon Chicken, and it was absolutely delicious--bright, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. My guy went with the Franco Peri Peri, which was also really tasty. Both dishes came with asparagus, which was a nice, simple complement. I did try one of their specialty cocktails--it was good, but honestly not worth the higher price point. After that, I went back to my tried-and-true vodka, cranberry, and Sprite combo. Now, my one real complaint: the bar service. It takes a long time to get drinks. And look... it's a tavern. You kind of expect the bar flow to be quicker and more efficient. It didn't ruin the experience, but it definitely stood out. Overall, Cook's Tavern is still a place I'd come back to again and again--for the food, the atmosphere, and that cozy neighborhood feel. Just maybe order your drinks early

After what I believe to have been 2 years of saying that, that day has finally come. First, parking near the restaurant was limited, however finding parking in the residential area was fine. We found parking about 2 minutes away from the restaurant. As we came with my best friend, who, by the way, was the reason why I finally stepped foot here, wait time wasn't long as she came about 5 minutes earlier than I. We came for brunch and it was busy but the wait was not bad at all. The both of us ordered the same items on the menu from both the drinks, the main and dessert - a sangria, Shakshuka with lamb, and beignets. We also brought our daughters with us. They ordered a cheeseburger with a side of caesar salad and a mac n cheese dish from the kids menu. Our orders were delicious, although I was expecting the shakshuka dish to be heftier. For the price - $17. xx with an additional $4 to add lamb - it was a little disappointing, to be honest, especially since it was lacking in the lamb department. I was still hungry but thankfully I had my 4 year old's leftover cheeseburger and salad to fill me right up. As for the beignets, it was good. I don't have anything to compare it to since I don't know what an actual beignet tastes like. Would I return? Sure.

Finally got a chance to try it at noon today, and it was a great experience! Environment: The overall vibe is very American. There were TVs on the walls constantly playing various ball games, like today's playoff game between the Thunder and the Lakers. It was pretty busy on the weekend, especially the outdoor seating area, which was almost full. The building is an old structure dating back to the 1900s. Though it shows its age, it's very clean both inside and out--you can tell the owner really cares. Service: Our waitress was very, very friendly and professional. She gave us great recommendations, always served with a smile, checked in on us during the meal, and refilled our water. Very satisfied! Taste: Pizza: There's a funny little story: supposedly, Marco Polo went to China and saw pies, but didn't know how to wrap the filling inside, so he just put it on top--and thus the pizza was born. Personally, I think this is a myth, or many people have started fantasizing about Marco Polo because they think he was too great. But according to various unearthed historical records in China, Marco Polo never actually went to China. In fact, around 2010, more than 20 scholars organized an event called "Retracing Marco Polo's Route." After completing the journey and comparing it to what Marco Polo himself recorded, most of them concluded that he probably never made it to China. Sorry, I have a strong urge to share--went off on a long tangent about Marco Polo. But the pizza was really delicious. It should be truly fire‑baked, not oven‑baked. The sauce was well‑balanced, and the toppings were generous and fresh. My wife and I ate more than half of it! Salad: The dressing and cheese were very generously applied, and the greens were fresh. Chicken wings: They had a pleasant sweet‑savory taste, just right. Unlike most American restaurants where they're too salty or too sweet, these were perfectly balanced. All the dipping sauces were good. Overall, highly recommended!
