Amazing experience. It was absolutely packed at 11:30am the other day but my friend and I were seating very quickly (thanking God I'm over 21). We both got the pineapple mimosa! Superrrr delicious. I've given shakabrah a few tries over the last six years or so and at this point I won't be giving it a chance anymore because it's been truly inedible. Each time there's a part of the meal that is SO SALTY it's disgusting- and I'm a girl who likes salt. First it was their breakfast potatoes and this time it was their Mac salad. I had a blt with the Mac salad and not only was the focaccia burnt, the sandwich had ZERO flavor. Whoever is in change of the salt needs to calm down. Gross. I had to douse with sauces and spices so that I could actually enjoy it. We went here and they have either counter or server service. We picked the counter service expecting it to be quicker but it did take a while to get our food. It looks like any decent cafe on the interior but smells really good! I got the Shaka potatoes with bacon, cheddar and sour cream to make it like a baked potato. It was so delicious! Don't get fooled by the name like we did. We were looking for a place that served loco moco. We found this place and saw they opened at 7am. We were juiced. Sadly, on this rainy morning we entered it wasn't a Hawaiian place like we thought. It's a breakfast/coffee place. It was a nice open place with plenty of seating. It looked like it used to be an auto shop. They had 2 garage bays that they left, which gave it character. In one dining area by the register they had a bunch of books, almost like a library. It had a pretty cool vibe. The lady who took my order was super nice and helpful. I stuck to the order that I had already planned. I ordered: 1. Cornbeef hash: Nice chunks of Cornbeef and the potatoes were delicious 2. Cowboy hash: I loved the bbq brisket. It was tender and chunky. With the potatoes and eggs it was prefect. 3. Loco moco: This isn't the authentic kind it's just frozen hamburger patties. I would recommend skipping this. I did take the rice and egg and mixed it in with my brisket. That was a bomb combo. 4. Pancakes: For a kids size this was huge. It looked delicious. 5. French toast: 2 slices of toast cut in half. This was the perfect sampler with a side of bacon or sausage. Perfect sized kids meal. Overall, it's a great place for breakfast. I didn't take pictures but from the looks of pancake and French toast you can see that was where they shined. Well, I have to say, I was wrong about this place. The first time I looked at the menu, I saw the Loco Moco & thought it was Hawaiian food which, after 35 trips to the islands, I'm not a fan of. My buddy has been eating here for years and loves it so I thought I would finally give a try. He ordred the corn beef hash & I ordered the chickpea bowl with brisket. I have to say it was the best corn beef I've ever tasted and the brisket was very good, too. I mentioned it to our lovely waitress when she asked and she told me they make both in house. Well done Shakabra. There are so many things on the menu I want to try now. The whole experience was wonderful, very melloelw, relaxed, and all the staff was so helpful. It's a vert cool place. I ate here for brunch over the weekend, and it was packed. I was immediately greeted and told there would be about a five minute wait for my party. I was seated pretty quickly after that, and my server greeted me and took my drink order as soon as I sat down. She also made a few recommendations based on her personal favorites from the menu. I opted for the cowboy hash which was tasty. The brisket in the dish was flavorful while the potatoes could've used a little extra seasoning. It smells so good in here!!! The upholstery leaves something to be desired. Some of the chairs will cut you they are so worn out. The service is great. The team was quick to our table. The food was a mixed lot. Every plate had bacon that was crisp and bacon that was still almost floppy undercooked. The potatoes stole the show! Crazy good! Overall it was good. Great food, I got the avocado omelette and it had a little too much bacon for me. My cousin got corned beef hash with fruit on the side, the strawberries were so fresh and yummy as well as the oranges! Service was pretty good too we got our food within 10-15m. Service has always need good and steady and food is basic breakfast fare. Ordered the Mochiko Chicken Plate lunch and Pork Belly Plate Lunch - I give this a 2 because they were really salty and the pork belly tasted like old meat. I'm born and raised from Guam and their take on finadene is not close to what it should be. Finadene consists of soy sauce, lemon juice/lemon powder, chili peppers and vinegar. The finadene they had was more like a marinade and it was served hot? I'm sure their breakfast plates taste very good but we came here for lunch and honestly, the lunch plates were not it. First time trying Shakabrah, a local Tacoma favorite. Street parking on 6th can be tough, but surprisingly found parking right away. We had a 20 min wait which isn't too bad on a Sunday morning. You get sat at a table then go to the counter to order. You do get asked to tip before you even experience the service or the food. Food was great- I had the corned beef hash- delicious ious- great portions. Place can get loud. Garage doors were open- it was pretty chilly but sunny so it made sense (it is the PNW after all). Server never came back after dropping off our food. My daughter went up to the counter to get some jam for her toast- so again, what are we tipping for? We came as a pair and shared a large party table with another smaller party. My husband loved his California scramble, which had a lot of flavor and a huge portion. Finally tried this place because it always looked hyped and the food looked good. However, it was disappointing and the food was disgusting.

All my dad wanted was a shakabrah pancake for Father's Day. Unfortunately, this sweet spot is not the same as it was. Going to school in Tacoma, this was my family's favorite spot to grab one of their famous pancakes. However, the terrible experience started as soon as we got out of the car. We parked in the lot in back where there is a 2 hour parking sign and no other signage about parking. A woman who was arriving for work got out of her car and said our car would be towed if we left our car there as the lot is reserved for employees only. With as many times as we've been there, we have never had a problem parking in the back lot. I asked about the signage of the lot and where it was posted we would get towed and she said "the crackheads are responsible for taking the signs down." That comment seems a little intense for an employee to make, but it was Father's Day so we just let it go and moved the car. Then, we walk around to the front and are greeted with a host that asks "how many? full service or on your own?" we asked if there was a table in full service or if there was a wait and she said curtly "well i need to know which side you want first". At this point, everyone seemed annoyed at our presence there and we said full service and then decided just to do bus your own. She comes back with menus and puts them down at a table. At this point, we waited for the other 2 people in our party and decided that we were not welcome there and decided to leave. Oh and their food rating is "okay". Which to me, is another red flag. We ended up walking down to DOA and had a great time with friendly staff, great food and drinks. It is a disappointment Shakabrah is not what it used to be. read more
