Once again the food is marvelous. To my surprise I see they now have a pasta station which I've never seen nor noticed before the pasta is cooked al dente and as you can see you have three varieties of pasta sauces you can try. Once again this is a perfect place to go for brunch with your loved ones. The atmosphere is always marvelous and festive ,management you're doing a great job. Continue the great work also your staff is unbelievable. Run don't walk to shadow on the Hudson, you definitely won't regret it. read more

Although I want to give it 2 stars on my review for my opinion towards the food I think three stars would be more fitting. Upon our arrival to the Shadows on the hudson we had a reservation for 7:15 and Anna told us to have a seat and wait a few more minutes. I have to admit that i was kind of annoyed because what's the purpose of a reservation when we still have to wait. We did. Literally 10 minutes later, thankfully i decided to ask about my table to another hostess and she COULD NOT find our names. I immediately was disappointed because I just checked in, finally Anna remembered that I checked in so without any apologies by the other hostess (mind you there was like 4 girls in the front desk age ranging from 18 to maybe 20) all looked clueless and not only did they Not apologize but had us wait another 5 minutes with not even a complimentary drink for messing up. We got nothing!. When we FINALLY got seated i noticed how much I loved the interior design of the whole restaurant. It was huge, the outside as well as the inside has such a sophisticated maximalist feel to it, very relaxed, airy with such a great vibe it's really unlike any restaurant I have visited since moving upstate. Scenery ? Style? Uniqueness ? It has it all. HOwEveR!!!!!!!!! By way of the food my attitude totally changed, No bueno!!. Starting with my drink the Jamaican sunset it definitely looked appealing but I had to order another shot on the side. As for the Rosé, now that bottle was good it definitely hit the spot!. I won't go to much into details as far as the food but I will say that the filet steak was Horribly made and I did not like the sauce on top the clams was grainy and the fries were cold. Although my entree was a disaster I have to say that the Buffalo calamari was the best, that's the only thing except for the wine that I would order again. Our waiter scottie was a hoot so friendly and always kept a smile. Other then a beautiful view that was more captivating for me then the food which turned out to be a pricey tab$$$. (They may have charged us for the view. Hahaha!) I took plenty of pictures and the weather was perfect also the sunset was breath taking, my husband and I stood for like 3 hours having such great conversations. We took a nice drive upstate to walk across the Hidson. Poughkeepsie has this great restaurant on the Hudson. Food was fantastic, innovative and served quickly. We attended the Italian Wine Pairing event on a Friday evening from 6 pm - 8 pm. A 5 course dinner with 5 different wines at $100 per person (reservation required & make sure you get there on time). A unique experience unlike other wine pairing dinners we attended in NYC. This wine pairing dinner was held inside a private room along with other attendees plus 2 Sommelier hosts. Imagine an educational seminar/class with food & wine. Overall, we enjoyed the experience, foods, wines, and the sommelier hosts. A real fun & interesting dinner wine pairing experience. read more

Being a Poughkeepsie native I have eaten at Shadows on numerous occasions since day one and have seen the quality and portion sizes consistently go down as the prices have become very questionable. Too bad, as it will catch up to them as it does with most restaurants. read more

Been here twice before, several years back for a couple wedding receptions. Stopped in today for a late lunch/early dinner. Shania was our server and she was fantastic. We had a couple appetizers - Fried Calamari and Garlic Shrimp Toast. For our entrees, we both had Maine Lobster Rolls. The food was absolutely incredible. Super tasty, great presentation, timing was also spot on. Combine the great service and fantastic food with a beautiful view of the Hudson River Valley... it doesn't get any better. Met an old friend for brunch at Shadows on the Hudson. Wow-- so many choices! Pasta bar, crepe bar (only 2 choices-- one savory and one sweet), omelets to order, salad, fruit, a carving station, shrimp, an array of desserts, and much more! Definitely try the soup! The butternut squash soup was the best item we sampled. The pasta was fresh made and included choices of sauces and mix-ins. The fruit was varied and fresh. The steamed veggies were done just perfectly. The only disappointment were the desserts. My friend and I took 3 to share. One (dark chocolate cake) was good/not great. The other two were gummy and gelatinous-- not worth the calories. Suggestions? Home-baked cookies. Eclairs. Small tarts. Baklava. Macaroons. Lovely view out the windows. My mother and I came here for lunch following a dr's appointment at Vassar. We made the right choice! The food was abundant and delicious, the view of the river (and Vassar Brothers on the other side) was lovely and to top it off, the service was phenomenal! This is a lovely restaurant right on the Hudson River. The views are lovely from either the outdoor seating area or indoors with floor to ceiling windows offering a great view of the river and the Mid Hudson Bridge as well as the lovely wooded areas on the Highland side of the bridge. The menu is varied and extensive and the food is always very good. Lots of seafood choices. The prices are a little bit on the high side for the area but worth it. read more

SORRY Shadows on the Hudson. 2 strikes and your out. Despite your beautiful view, outdoor seating, friendly servers, yummy drinks, and delicious clam pot( a 10) ; i will not be back for dinner. Your culinary quality is a fail and certainly over priced. Let's be specific here...On one occasion, a pink, medium ordered filet mignon came back very well, tough, and flavorless, as did the strip steak and lamb chops. On the last visit, the chefs did not follow through on specific requests. For the scallop dish, I requested sautéed spinach with no creamed corn polenta as it is too buttery. The dish was served with the polenta with extremely salty spinach ( non-edible). After articulating the errors, the manager did not approach us. Well let's start with, WOW! We packed the family up in the old truckerster and headed an hour and twenty minutes north. Yup we'll travel for food and new restaurants to try and this was well worth the drive! The ambiance gets five stars, service five stars, food presentation four and a half stars, taste four and half stars, price gets $$$1/2. The minute you walk in you're taken back with smiles from the hostesses making you feel right at home. As you walk into thw main dining room you have ravishing views up and down the river. We sat outside to enjoy these views on a very subtle summer evening, we were greeted by a multitude of staff for our table. The extensive wine list is nothing to shake a stick at have no fear they have an on staff sommelier should you have a questions. My wife and I know wines and we were pleasantly surprised to learn a little more this evening about different regions and wines we haven't tried before. The meal from start to finish was on point hands down one if the top five meals I have had out with the family this year! TOP FIVE! I'm going to say you have to stop in. We have all ready said we're going back to see the fall foliage and enjoy another fine meal. Don't let the 3.5 stars as an overall review of this restaurant deter you it's a bs overall review. Me and my boyfriend came here because we decided to take a wittle trip to Poughkeepsie and I am all about fine dining so this was the perfect place! Looking at the menu I decided to prior to actually being there that I wanted to try the Rigatoni Bolognese. I had my heart set on it! Once we pulled up to the place, we got the sense that a lot of people use this for their weddings because the restaurant sits by a yacht club. Once we walked inside, it was absolutely stunning on the inside! It was definitely fine dining. We wanted to sit outside so that we could see the views of the Hudson bridge and the river! Let me tell you the view was Amazing and I caught an awesome picture! Now onto the food......... The bread: hottest I have ever had! I love some good hot/warm bread rolls and some butter! They were absolutely delicious to me. I was expecting a little more of a garlic taste but either way I ate some bread! Drinks: ofc I ordered a cosmo and my boyfriend a beer. I enjoyed the cosmo with the little piece of pineapple. Entrees: my boyfriend ordered the French cut chicken breast and when I tasted it I thought it was VERY DRY! Beware that you might want to drink your beverage or water while you eat this. However your plate will come with beets and broccoli tab so I guess you can use that to help your chicken breast. My boyfriend enjoyed his meal and was a very happy camper. I ordered the rigatoni bolognese that I had my eye on! Bolognese to me I thought was supposed to be a little less thick. I was tasteful, don't get me wrong! My boyfriend even enjoyed it and said he should have ordered it. I really enjoyed it (and wish I could have finished it) I wish it would have been a little less thick. Now in between all of this, our server Nikol (I'm not sure how you would spell a man's name) was great! Did what he had to do. But shoutout to Emmanuel (not sure who he was--maybe the manager) who gave my boyfriend a more comfortable chair for him to sit in when he asked and kept checking on us to make sure everything was going ok. I'm such a stickler for going above and beyond to make sure customers are served well and feel comfortable. It was really appreciated! All in all, I would come back here in a heartbeat! Came here to have our 'upscale' dinner on our mini-honeymoon. The service was great and attentive. Very nice inside space and cool views. Was quiet when we went (Tuesday night). Ordered the short rib gnocchi, crab cakes and fra diavolo. Short rib gnocchi was very good with a lot more meat than I expected. The fra diavolo was not as flavorful as expected. We had a reservations for their famous Sunday brunch but was disappointed for 3 reasons. We had diarrhea after brunch within less than 30 mins after we paid for the check. We ate similar food ranging from the buffet, salad bar/pasta/cold/shrimp cocktail and dessert bar. Personally I didn't eat anything from the cold and dessert bar. I only ate warm food given covid is still ongoing. Majority of folks didn't wear a mask when they walked around the restaurant or waited in the buffet line, except for a few diners. All the staff wore masks but it took a long time for the staff to get us coffee. The only PRO is the view is very pretty especially the Fall foliage overlooking the Hudson River. We've just returned from an early Thanksgiving meal and couldn't wait to post a review. We had hesitated in the past to dine here as didn't think that a restaurant this size could deliver a top-quality meal. We couldn't be more wrong. From start to finish, the service was impeccable and the food superb. We were greeted and seated graciously and promptly by Nicole. She placed us in the capable hands of Jimmy, who served us with discreet attention, appearing periodically to check up on how the meal was progressing. The bus staff was on point, clearing promptly and keeping bread basket and water glasses filled. We were especially impressed with Mikey, who has a bright future in the food industry should he want that. We had asked Jimmy about a particular wine that we were interested in and he brought over Hailey, their sommelier, who proceeded to discuss, with much knowledge, the region we were speaking of. She recommended a champagne tasting in December the restaurant was hosting. In terms of the food, it was on point! We started with the harvest squash soup with pickled apples. Perfectly seasoned with the pickled apples finely diced and a revelation. Husband had the Maryland crab cakes, which he finished...and that never happens! I moved onto the country ham with apple and cranberry compote, garlic mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts, which was terrific. (One small miss. The 3 roasted shrimp portion I added to meal was...shrimpy. A tad too tiny). My husband Noble had the Seared Cherry Bourbon Salmon with dried apricot & herbed quinoa, and spinach. Again, he never finishes his plate yet did! We had a single glass of malbec each as we were dining early. We also declined dessert but the next time we return, we'll try one. In years past I private-catered so I appreciate the care that went into the meal as well as the gracious service from those who tended to us instead of being with their own families. Recently visited family and I convinced everyone to try out Shadows for their brunch buffet. My grandmother in particular loved this place! The food selection here meant everyone at our table could have something they wanted. The variety of savory treats here were very good. Across the whole buffet there were classic breakfast options but you could also get some unique lunch items too. Obviously we tried half/half of both. Overall I think we liked the sliced beef the most but the chicken and waffles were fantastic too. If you get waffles try the pecans in syrup spread! One of the reasons I was so interested in checking this place out was their dessert buffet and I was not disappointed. There were LOTS of dessert options here. It was honestly kind of hard what to pick because the main meals we had filled us up at this point. There were cakes, puddings, creme-brulee (my favorite), dessert cups, etc. The dessert glasses had nice presentation but honestly were hollow. All the other desserts were richer. In fact every desert had great presentation and I think it was overall better then their savory menu! I will say it wasn't a 5/5 star experience our first time here. The table we got had views of the Hudson but also a parking lot which wasn't as nice. Tables farther in the back seem to get better views. Another thing that, at least irked me, was the take home policy. I know buffets don't do this for good reason but my grandmother can't eat too much. During dessert she had one slice of cheese cake she really wanted to take back but nope. Still it was a very good experience and one we won't forget. This is our first time doing a road trip in New York. We found this restaurant by accident. To our surprise, the food is excellent, and the service is wonderful. But most of all, the view of the bridge is incredible and romantic. We ordered the Fra Diavolo (seafood fettuccine) and the Panzanella salad. The fettuccine was full of seafood with flavorful slightly spicy marinara sauce. The salad is fresh with tasty salad dressing. The freshly baked bread is soft with creamy butter spread. We had a great dinner. We wish we have such a great restaurant in California too. read more

This place is aesthetically impressive! The views are amazing. The first hot week of the season and the place was booming. I went on Friday evening around 530. The views of the hudson are gorgeous. I believe there was an event going on next door. The parking lot was full and I was afraid there would be a wait. There is plenty of parking though. There is a lower level that I don't think most people know about or think they don't know how to get there. Anyway the service wasn't that great at all because it was so busy I will say. I sat at the bar and barely was able to order my food/ drink. Never got checked on. Took forever to ask for anything more. Was done with my drink and app for a while before I finally got bar tender to come back. I wanted to order an entree but after being there almost an hour I didn't want any more. I ended up just ordering a side and leaving. I even told the bar tender that I would order my entree after. Food took 20 min to come out. My drink was the best thing, called lost on rinaldi. Buffalo calamari was just ok. The gorgonzola gave it a bit off flavor. The $1 blue point oysters were on the happy hour menu. These were also good. I like the stone fruit mignonette. I got the Mexican street corn. I was expecting creamy corn. But I was surprised they were on the cob and lil dry. Great seasoning. Ambiance and music was good. Food is probably mostly good. Although we had reservations, for 5:30PM on a sunny Saturday we were lucky to snag a parking spot in the lot because the place was absolutely bustling with people (I assume there is a strong correlation between nice weather and high turnouts here).  The wait staff and the hostess were all extremely polite and professional, and we were lucky to get a table right by the railing overlooking the beautiful view.  One order of Thai Glazed Colossal Shrimp and a Traditional Caesar Salad with Shrimp ended up coming to $54.06 (before tip)--pricey, but it goes without saying that what you're really paying for here is the view, and the great service.  The food itself was underwhelming (maybe it was just the shrimp, since that's what we both had). My husband and I had a fantastic dining experience tonight at Shadows. My entree was the swordfish special. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Melt in your mouth tender. My husband had the filet mignon also perfectly cooked. The waitstaff was top notch and very professional. From the young man who seated us by the window with a great view to the other nice young man who brought the bread basket to the sweet and attentive soft spoken waitress. This was like a high end dining experience. I didn't remember Shadows being this fancy. We want to return and try their Happy Hour menu. read more

i will start by saying the setting overlooking the Hudson is awesome but... the ambience leaves alot to be desired. needs face lift room tremendous in buffet area. but way too small for the amount of guests especially on special event days days ie: mother's day furniture tired in need of refurbishing buffet pricey and does not include beverage(non alcoholic)) it seemed that they had to replenish the food bins very frequently... ti accommodate the many guests The entrance lobby needs to be redone. chairs fabric tacky and soiled the best part was the view of the Hudson ..on a sunny day it is beautiful i love Belgian waffles. my favorite brunch. but the ones they served here were small The strawberries and blueberries however were tasty my husband found this in Weatchester magazine and decided to take the hour drive from Hartsdale I woukd like the chance to return so hopefully there will be a renovation read more

I thought the prices for lunch offerings were a bit above average, but given the number of customers on a slow weekday, folks are comfortable with them, and the portions are good. Here for private event that takes up a portion of the restaurant but was able to sample the entire place over the course of the evening. Located on the Hudson with a gorgeous view of the river & bridge this place from an ambience perspective has it all going on. Ceiling to floor glass everywhere very modern chic feel, giant fire pit by the expansive bar with multiple rooms for dining, tables for chatting & more rooms for private dining as well. The event itself was fine as it was limited to beer & house wines along with some appetizers being passed around. After the event we moved to the bar where we were able to experience of the place. Most of the bartenders were friendly and very good with decent pours and well-made craft cocktails. One young lady simply didn't want to be there and was a miserable as a person could be. We had some appetizers at the bar which were OK nothing special. All and all I doubt I'll be up this way again in the future but from a pure ambiance and aesthetic point of view I would not hesitate to return. read more

This is a nice dining room - and the service was friendly - from the hostess to the bus staff and the wait staff - all attentive and kind. The problem was the food - which was puzzlingly mediocre. Ceasar salad was huge, but lacked flavor - the dressing tasted like mayonnaise - there was no detectable lemon or pepper or anchovy or Worcestershire or garlic. The "focaccia" was bread, but it was not what most restaurants or bakeries call focaccia. This was thick and dense - the opposite of focaccia. It was served with ricotta covered w/ too much honey--a 1 to 1 ratio. Muscles had a nice sauce - but were small and tough - perhaps overcooked. The bread basket was delayed - and when it arrived the rolls were simply not cooked through. We were served rolls with raw dough in the middle. Both our pasta entrees were odd. One, with lobster and "house made linguine" - the sauce seemed artificially thickened - and the pasta may have been made there, but it seemed 100% like boxed pasta. The other pasta, Short Rib Gnocchi was dry, not served hot enough, and the gnocchi were chewy and gummy and we barely ate any of them. So, both entrees just seemed amateurish from a professional cooking standpoint. Everything here is presented nicely - and maybe the focus is on looks, not taste? read more

Shadows is awesome! Classy, relaxing ambiance, super clean, friendly staff. I went there this week for a work event. The hors d'oeuvres were fantastic!!! They had mozzarella sticks, sliders, Buffalo chicken, and so many other things! Then on the buffet they had tortellini with sauce, chicken and broccoli and penne ala vodka. I have to say the penne vodka wasn't that good. It was like regular tomato sauce and super dry. Very disappointing. I will definitely go back for dinner though one night. read more
