Me and my boyfriend came here because we decided to take a wittle trip to Poughkeepsie and I am all about fine dining so this was the perfect place! Looking at the menu I decided to prior to actually being there that I wanted to try the Rigatoni Bolognese. I had my heart set on it! Once we pulled up to the place, we got the sense that a lot of people use this for their weddings because the restaurant sits by a yacht club. Once we walked inside, it was absolutely stunning on the inside! It was definitely fine dining. We wanted to sit outside so that we could see the views of the Hudson bridge and the river! Let me tell you the view was Amazing and I caught an awesome picture! Now onto the food......... The bread: hottest I have ever had! I love some good hot/warm bread rolls and some butter! They were absolutely delicious to me. I was expecting a little more of a garlic taste but either way I ate some bread! Drinks: ofc I ordered a cosmo and my boyfriend a beer. I enjoyed the cosmo with the little piece of pineapple. Entrees: my boyfriend ordered the French cut chicken breast and when I tasted it I thought it was VERY DRY! Beware that you might want to drink your beverage or water while you eat this. However your plate will come with beets and broccoli tab so I guess you can use that to help your chicken breast. My boyfriend enjoyed his meal and was a very happy camper. I ordered the rigatoni bolognese that I had my eye on! Bolognese to me I thought was supposed to be a little less thick. I was tasteful, don't get me wrong! My boyfriend even enjoyed it and said he should have ordered it. I really enjoyed it (and wish I could have finished it) I wish it would have been a little less thick. Now in between all of this, our server Nikol (I'm not sure how you would spell a man's name) was great! Did what he had to do. But shoutout to Emmanuel (not sure who he was--maybe the manager) who gave my boyfriend a more comfortable chair for him to sit in when he asked and kept checking on us to make sure everything was going ok. We had a reservations for their famous Sunday brunch but was disappointed for 3 reasons. We had diarrhea after brunch within less than 30 mins after we paid for the check. We ate similar food ranging from the buffet, salad bar/pasta/cold/shrimp cocktail and dessert bar. Personally I didn't eat anything from the cold and dessert bar. I only ate warm food given covid is still ongoing. Majority of folks didn't wear a mask when they walked around the restaurant or waited in the buffet line, except for a few diners. All the staff wore masks but it took a long time for the staff to get us coffee. The only PRO is the view is very pretty especially the Fall foliage overlooking the Hudson River. We've just returned from an early Thanksgiving meal and couldn't wait to post a review. We had hesitated in the past to dine here as didn't think that a restaurant this size could deliver a top-quality meal. We couldn't be more wrong. From start to finish, the service was impeccable and the food superb. We were greeted and seated graciously and promptly by Nicole. She placed us in the capable hands of Jimmy, who served us with discreet attention, appearing periodically to check up on how the meal was progressing. The bus staff was on point, clearing promptly and keeping bread basket and water glasses filled. We were especially impressed with Mikey, who has a bright future in the food industry should he want that. We had asked Jimmy about a particular wine that we were interested in and he brought over Hailey, their sommelier, who proceeded to discuss, with much knowledge, the region we were speaking of. She recommended a champagne tasting in December the restaurant was hosting. In terms of the food, it was on point! We started with the harvest squash soup with pickled apples. Perfectly seasoned with the pickled apples finely diced and a revelation. Husband had the Maryland crab cakes, which he finished...and that never happens! I moved onto the country ham with apple and cranberry compote, garlic mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts, which was terrific. (One small miss. The 3 roasted shrimp portion I added to meal was...shrimpy. A tad too tiny). My husband Noble had the Seared Cherry Bourbon Salmon with dried apricot & herbed quinoa, and spinach. Again, he never finishes his plate yet did! We had a single glass of malbec each as we were dining early. We also declined dessert but the next time we return, we'll try one. In years past I private-catered so I appreciate the care that went into the meal as well as the gracious service from those who tended to us instead of being with their own families. This place is aesthetically impressive! The views are amazing. The first hot week of the season and the place was booming. I went on Friday evening around 530. The views of the hudson are gorgeous. I believe there was an event going on next door. The parking lot was full and I was afraid there would be a wait. There is plenty of parking though. There is a lower level that I don't think most people know about or think they don't know how to get there. Anyway the service wasn't that great at all because it was so busy I will say. I sat at the bar and barely was able to order my food/ drink. Never got checked on. Took forever to ask for anything more. Was done with my drink and app for a while before I finally got bar tender to come back. I wanted to order an entree but after being there almost an hour I didn't want any more. I ended up just ordering a side and leaving. I even told the bar tender that I would order my entree after. Food took 20 min to come out. My drink was the best thing, called lost on rinaldi. Buffalo calamari was just ok. The gorgonzola gave it a bit off flavor. The $1 blue point oysters were on the happy hour menu. These were also good. I like the stone fruit mignonette. I got the Mexican street corn. I was expecting creamy corn. But I was surprised they were on the cob and lil dry. Great seasoning. Ambiance and music was good. Food is probably mostly good. Recently visited family and I convinced everyone to try out Shadows for their brunch buffet. My grandmother in particular loved this place! The food selection here meant everyone at our table could have something they wanted. The variety of savory treats here were very good. Across the whole buffet there were classic breakfast options but you could also get some unique lunch items too. Obviously we tried half/half of both. Overall I think we liked the sliced beef the most but the chicken and waffles were fantastic too. If you get waffles try the pecans in syrup spread! One of the reasons I was so interested in checking this place out was their dessert buffet and I was not disappointed. There were LOTS of dessert options here. It was honestly kind of hard what to pick because the main meals we had filled us up at this point. There were cakes, puddings, creme-brulee (my favorite), dessert cups, etc. The dessert glasses had nice presentation but honestly were hollow. All the other desserts were richer. In fact every desert had great presentation and I think it was overall better then their savory menu! I will say it wasn't a 5/5 star experience our first time here. The table we got had views of the Hudson but also a parking lot which wasn't as nice. Tables farther in the back seem to get better views. Another thing that, at least irked me, was the take home policy. I know buffets don't do this for good reason but my grandmother can't eat too much. During dessert she had one slice of cheese cake she really wanted to take back but nope. Still it was a very good experience and one we won't forget. Although we had reservations, for 5:30PM on a sunny Saturday we were lucky to snag a parking spot in the lot because the place was absolutely bustling with people (I assume there is a strong correlation between nice weather and high turnouts here).  The wait staff and the hostess were all extremely polite and professional, and we were lucky to get a table right by the railing overlooking the beautiful view.  One order of Thai Glazed Colossal Shrimp and a Traditional Caesar Salad with Shrimp ended up coming to $54.06 (before tip)--pricey, but it goes without saying that what you're really paying for here is the view, and the great service.  The food itself was underwhelming (maybe it was just the shrimp, since that's what we both had). Here for private event that takes up a portion of the restaurant but was able to sample the entire place over the course of the evening. Located on the Hudson with a gorgeous view of the river & bridge this place from an ambience perspective has it all going on. Ceiling to floor glass everywhere very modern chic feel, giant fire pit by the expansive bar with multiple rooms for dining, tables for chatting & more rooms for private dining as well. The event itself was fine as it was limited to beer & house wines along with some appetizers being passed around. After the event we moved to the bar where we were able to experience of the place. Most of the bartenders were friendly and very good with decent pours and well-made craft cocktails. One young lady simply didn't want to be there and was a miserable as a person could be. We had some appetizers at the bar which were OK nothing special. All and all I doubt I'll be up this way again in the future but from a pure ambiance and aesthetic point of view I would not hesitate to return. read more

This is a nice dining room - and the service was friendly - from the hostess to the bus staff and the wait staff - all attentive and kind. The problem was the food - which was puzzlingly mediocre. Ceasar salad was huge, but lacked flavor - the dressing tasted like mayonnaise - there was no detectable lemon or pepper or anchovy or Worcestershire or garlic. The "focaccia" was bread, but it was not what most restaurants or bakeries call focaccia. This was thick and dense - the opposite of focaccia. It was served with ricotta covered w/ too much honey--a 1 to 1 ratio. Muscles had a nice sauce - but were small and tough - perhaps overcooked. The bread basket was delayed - and when it arrived the rolls were simply not cooked through. We were served rolls with raw dough in the middle. Both our pasta entrees were odd. One, with lobster and "house made linguine" - the sauce seemed artificially thickened - and the pasta may have been made there, but it seemed 100% like boxed pasta. The other pasta, Short Rib Gnocchi was dry, not served hot enough, and the gnocchi were chewy and gummy and we barely ate any of them. So, both entrees just seemed amateurish from a professional cooking standpoint. Everything here is presented nicely - and maybe the focus is on looks, not taste? read more

Shadows is awesome! Classy, relaxing ambiance, super clean, friendly staff. I went there this week for a work event. The hors d'oeuvres were fantastic!!! They had mozzarella sticks, sliders, Buffalo chicken, and so many other things! Then on the buffet they had tortellini with sauce, chicken and broccoli and penne ala vodka. I have to say the penne vodka wasn't that good. It was like regular tomato sauce and super dry. Very disappointing. I will definitely go back for dinner though one night. read more

The atmosphere is good. The service was ok. The food was terrible though and incredibly overpriced. The salad was obviously prepped hours before and kept in a cooler and also consisted of basically just iceberg lettuce... for that price you'd think there would be mescaline or at least spinach leaves and kale. The chicken was dry, overcooked and tasteless, the vegetables were mushy. The bolognese sauce was gross. Everything about the eating experience was bad. I am glad I didn't get the $200 steak. I can't imagine how upset I'd be. What A huge waste of money this was! Good views and excellent ambiance (we went during the holiday season and the decor was superb) The food is boring and sad. Subpar at best. Not sure how anyone could like it. These raving views must be from people that don't get out much. EXTREMELY overpriced for the quality of the experience. read more

Went for the Sunday brunch. Beautiful venue inside and out. We sat outside for a while and had some drinks on the high tops. Then had brunch inside in the bar/lounge area. Incredible spread. Pasta station was delicious as well as the prime rib and ham. Wide selection of breakfast and lunch items. Dessert was delicious my favorite being the creme brûlée. Service was excellent and staff is very friendly. Only complaint is that at least one mimosa should be included in the price. We pulled up by boat with friends. The filet mignon was cold & raw when ordered medium, iced tea was served without ice, bar drink was watered down, we waited so long for waitstaff to come to our table even though there were plenty of waitstaff running around totally disorganized. There was no ambiance whatsoever. Our reservations were made several weeks ago but our table was a table of 5 nestled in between tables of many people. Never again. There is too much competition in the Hudson Valley to put up with this. The worst holiday experience ever. read more

The fried calamari was barely breaded, and just so painfully mediocre. The crab cakes had a beautiful presentation but were bland and small. I attended a surprise birthday dinner last night. There was a set menu. I chose the steak with roasted potatoes and string beans. The steak was juicy and tender. The potatoes were seasoned perfectly as well as the string beans. Prior, there was a table with assorted appetizers including pita bread with spinach dip, assorted cheeses with crackers, assorted ham and salami with olives. The service was excellent. I loved my experience at Shadows the last time I went I had the pleasure of dining during happy hour in the outside seating which provides a beautiful view. The food was great and the options changed almost all the time but we still had some staples like the calamari tacos, which were delicious. I loved the drinks as well, the drink special they had when I went was this sangria which was perfectly balanced and was recommended by our wonderful server who was attentive and made sure to even provide us with a dessert recommendation which we took excitedly and it was amazing! Overall a great experience and I will be returning sooner rather than later. read more

Quite the View. Shadows on the Husdon is definitely the spot to see for a large party event, with a very large bar area, plenty of table space indoors, and a gorgeous view over the Hudson on their large back deck that wraps around the corner with a second bar outdoors with beautiful views. We ended up going with a 30+ party size group, so it was a small prix fixe menu to keep things simple, so I didn't get to sample a lot from the menu, but what they did serve was delicious. We did have time to sit at the bar for a bit as well and tried a unique platter of the Buffalo Calamari, something I wasn't sure on but as I had never heard of it before, had to give it a try and was not disappointed. Service at the tables was great, but the service behind the bar was a little slow and there wasn't a large crowd at the bar, though we did sit away from other groups to the tap side, so maybe the walk to check-in was a bit much. All and all, it's a stunning location and something to try if you can get outside on a good weather evening, especially around sunset. read more

Going to give this place two stars. You can judge for yourselves. I wanted to celebrate my birthday with about 20 friends and have the regular Sunday Brunch there. I called to attempt to make a reservation a month in advance. I was told that parties over 15 had to go through catering. Catering reached out and I and was offered all sorts of catering menus. I explained that I simply wanted to come to Brunch that day with my friends and wanted to reserve some tables so we could sit together. I was told no, but if I wanted a catering event they could help me. I called and asked to speak to a manager to discuss it which I was refused and instead given to the person who had turned me down in the first place. I once again explained that I had a party of 20 and wanted to have regular brunch. I also stated that I understood how busy that day could be and was more than willing to leave a deposit in good faith to reserve a table I was told a firm No a final time. Not even a 'come by with your group and we will do our best to seat you together' or 'maybe another weekend' just no. Bear in mind my friend did the exact same thing a few months ago that I am asking for and was accommodated but for some reason my answer was no. The food is excellent as is the wait staff. The current management has really left a bad taste in my mouth. I guess if your having a wedding or some big expensive catering event, they will welcome your business but if you just want to celebrate a birthday with your friends at brunch, that it seems, is too much to ask for. read more

By far best dining experience to date. Food was so delicious made to perfection. We had the three tier Maine lobster entree and it was best lobster I have ever eaten. The muscles were made perfectly and the raw clams and oysters were clean delicious a fresh. Thomas C the waiter was a great waiter and gave us impeccable service . Knew the menu very well and had great suggestions . The creek brûlée was best we have ever eaten. I couldn't believe how everything came out better than the rest .
