We went to the Shadows restaurant for dinner the night before the wedding - not knowing that the venue was attached and that they provided the catering to weddings at the Grandview. We had an incredible dining experience so we knew the next day, the wedding day, that the food would be delicious. First and foremost, the venue itself is stunning - featuring gorgeous marbling and chandeliers, in addition to a beautiful balcony type area outside - where the reception was held, in addition to ample seating and great photo ops with the bridge over the water. The food at cocktail hour was exceptional. Our bride and groom had a carving station, pasha station and crudite in addition to passed hors d'oeuvres. My favorites were the mini tacos - so fresh - with a margarita shot, the coconut shrimp, the penne vodka and the sushi! The venue where the reception was, was stunning! It was connected to the same room we had the cocktail hour, featuring a beautiful stone backdrop wall, a huge marble dance floor and gorgeous oval tables. I was attending an event at The Grandview on a very pleasant early spring afternoon. It had been a coup of years since my last visit and, WOW; The updates to the spaces was well thought out and executed. Toning down the color scheme and upgrading the finishes lends the space to a multitude of tastes and purposes from corporate gatherings to private social affairs. The staff was attentive, but would benefit from a team briefing about the menu and ingredients. I spent decades in hospitality management and understand the benefit of staff tastings before serving. That practice elevates the experience for attendees by assuring that the staff is well-versed on the ingredients and preparation before they interact with guests. For example, readers of my reviews understand that I have food, allergies. It's important for me to be discreet about asking what ingredients are used in the preparation at a past hors d'oeuvres event. On two occasions within the same half hour, I asked the server if there were any alliums used in the preparation. They did not know what alliums were so I explained that garlic and onion family is something I was not able to eat safely. Both times, the server did not know what ingredients were used and offered to check with the kitchen. That's a great back up plan but unfortunately, that server never returned to me, presumably he was intercepted along the way by other guest who wanted to sample what was on his tray Preparing the staff in advance of an event is crucial. This was the only failure that I could see. My experience would have been elevated to four stars had the servers been better trained. The view and tasteful renovations resulted in the additional star for a total of four stars. read more

I was there last evening for a fundraiser gala and it was absolutely glorious. Cuisine was delectable with a carving station, pasta station, all sorts of fresh seafood, fresh fruit, even a pizza stand, plus passed hors d'oeuvres. Open bar with really awesome bartenders, incredible servers and service was impeccable. Atmosphere is elegant yet comfortable. The room is massive and probably holds two hundred guests not including the cocktail area behind it with the breathtaking Hudson River view. The manager, Brent Caster, is a mensch of epic proportion. Okay so driving there requires passing through some pretty questionable areas but once past all that it's another world. I would DEFINITELY consider this venue for a wedding or any other banquet. read more

I looooove a venue by the water. The food was delicious and the space was beautiful. The only complaint we had was not having anywhere ready for us to sit as we arrived. We had to wait in the hallway. The wait staff just Kept the apps coming and coming through the cocktail hour and everything was so diverse. There was all types of cuisine from lo mein type noodles to charcuterie fixings. We loved it! The champagne wall was nice too! First let me say, the views are stunning! Such gorgeous views of the river and the FDR bridge. We went for their Thanksgiving buffet. The venue is gorgeous! Beautifully decorated and well laid out. We were brought to our table right away even though we were 30 minutes early. Our waiter came right off and offered us drinks. He told us where the plates were and what the stations are. I started with some shrimp cocktail. Perfectly cooked and delicious cocktail sauce. Of course I opted for traditional Thanksgiving fare, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc. All were delicious! However, they also offered ham, prime rib and close to 20 other options- something for everyone! The dessert station was a dream - I felt like a kid in a candy store!! My husband and I came here to help celebrate our friends' union and it was such a beautiful ceremony and reception. They read their vows with panoramic Hudson River views as their backdrop. It was breathtaking. The bridal attendant/maître d', Stephanie (?) and Crystal, were on point with helping the bride ready for her debut. The bridal suite was decked out with champs and snacks. They were also able to assist with bustling and adornments. As our friends sealed their marriage with a kiss, the sun set and the guests filed in to the cocktail hour area. The staff was super friendly and on point. The food was very good. Some of my faves were the sliders, crab cakes, calimari, mini wellies and coconut shrimp. The bartenders were great. "The Honeymoon" was a popular drink. The setting for the reception was awesome. The weather lent for continuous views of the Hudson River and the beautifully lit Mid-Hudson Bridge. Definitely IG worthy pics to be had. The sound system was great and we danced all night. Again, the staff was very attentive. Our entire table was up dancing and they served our entrées with dish covers to keep them warm. I had crab stuffed shrimp and hubby had my strip, both of which were really good. The wedding cake was amazing also. This is a gorgeous venue and I'm sure it would offer elegance in any season. A really horrible experience for their New Year's Eve gala where my friend and I both spent $200 each and the accommodations we're awful. Many people were complaining about not having a chair to sit during their cocktail hour and their tasteless and unfresh apps. Forget attempting to score a drink at the bar with the two bartenders at two stations trying to cater to hundreds of people with many waking away empty handed. Our table was displeased with the timing of the food as well as the quality of the food. I did not even eat my filet mignon as it looked gray in color and tasted freezer burned and rancid not like steak should taste and my friend's was overcooked. The pasta was oversalted. My wife and I went here for this recent New Years Eve Party. The music/vibe/crowd/dance floor were about par- DJs are rather predictable in their musical choices. The food was generally better than expected. The bar was ok, better strong drinks made too quick than too weak! Typical NYE pricing. Room was fine. Valet parking was nice. BUT- The hours were stated as 7PM-1AM. Got there by 7:10PM and the cocktail hour was a mess! WAY too many people for the size of the room (and when were so people allowed in? No way at 7PM). Not nearly enough chairs, or even standing high boy tables, to sit or stand and eat. Not a great cocktail hour food selection, and 2 understaffed bars where you needed four bar stations. My wife left her dinner plate later on during dinner, to use the restroom, and her plate disappeared long before she was finished! We've done NYE at The Thayer, Anthony's Pier 9 and The Grand here in town, and The Grand View did not stand out in any way. Next year? Maybe the Silk Factory, or JungleBandMusic live, for a focus on live Motown, and less on the food. Did meet some nice people. Otherwise, meh. read more

The bride, groom, and families were thrilled with the wedding and reception held at Grandview May 6th. We had roughly 170 people. Because Grandview's business is wedding receptions, they have it down to a science. The staff was very attentive. Food was terrific, as everyone said at the time. The staff at Grandview leading up to the event, and at the event itself, did everything to accommodate our wishes and design the event as we wished. The nearby Poughkeepsie Bridge was lit during the evening in the wedding colors. The facility is clean and well-maintained. There are many options to choose from. I had my wedding at the Grandview in August 2024 and they were absolutely amazing from scheduling the venue tour to the day after the wedding! You can tell they do so many weddings because they're amazing at it, but they truly make you and your wedding feel special. They were super accommodating with any requests that we had (such as an odd signature cocktail in memory of my husband's late father). The space is also stunning! Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and professional, they truly made our wedding the best experience. Last but not least, the food and drinks! Most people complain wedding food is meh and drinks are watered down, but that was not the case at the Grandview! Everyone raved to us about how great the food and drinks were! I also loved the Grandview had so many different packages to fit any couple's needs. It was important to me to know how much this was going to cost upfront and the Grandview made that so easy. The Grandview is right on the river so you have a fantastic view of the water and can take pictures right on the pier. The venue itself is incredibly spacious and I spied an outdoor tent for use as another event space. i thought our particular room was big, but then they pulled back a wall to reveal the desserts. The Grandview is a beautiful place to have a wedding. It is on the Hudson River and the place is pretty close to public transportation, allowing people from the city to give guests who do not drive more travel options. The wedding I attended at the Grandview took place outside and was beautiful, on a sunny summer day. There was a tent set up for the reception. Right after the wedding and about 20 minutes into the reception, it rained. Actually, it flood rained and there were extreme winds and it was like the world was ending. The staff at Grandview battled the elements to ensure that the wedding continued without a hitch. Even though we were technically outside, the tents were amazingly staffed so that there was no water creeping into the wedding. The food was good and the wait staff was actually amazing. They knew their products, were very engaging and they were a huge step above the usual dry event hall staff you often encounter. read more

I heard the owner screaming at an employee because the children at her table really liked her and went up and hugged her and some Karen sitting next to her table didn't like that the waitress was friendly and sweet to the children. They sent her home in the middle of her shift for being nice. That Karen costed a young hard working mother her job because she didn't mind her own damn business. They fired the poor waitress because she started crying because she did nothing wrong and If that is how they do business, please take yours elsewhere. read more

Came here for a wedding in November and the cocktail hour food alone blew me away. Granted the food is based upon what the host chooses during their package selection and ours must have went ALL OUT, P Diddy Package Deluxe bc my oh my, they had just about everything! As soon as we walked in and waited for the ceremony, there was champagne and a fruit and cheese set up in the lobby. After vows, Cocktail hour was four different stations consisting of asian inspired dishes like sweet & sour chicken, dumplings, cold noodles etc. Another station was tacos and mexican fiesta fare. But in the middle of the room was a gigantic ice sculpture surounded by lobster tails and claws, oyster shots, king crab legs the size of my entire arm, shrimp cocktail and the works. The seafood alone must have cost a butt-ton! It was an afternoon wedding and I wish it lasted longer bc it really flew by! The only downside was the entree food which was a choice of stuffed shrimp, chicken scarpiello or something like that (not a marsala or lemon chicken) or a ribeye. Love me some ribeyes so I went with that, and asked for 'rare' bc they couldn't do medium-rare. Um ok? Well thank god i asked for rare bc what I received was medium. Not the best cut of meat and I have had better ribeyes before; though it wasn't terrible. Dessert was candy bar and some small cakes along with a slice of wedding cake. I don't like sweets but overall, still very nice. From what I saw in this wedding, I would recommend couples to check out the various packages. And do your guests a favor, ALWAYS HAVE AN OPEN BAR. The entrees on the other hand were not as impressive even though it sounded delicious on the menu. The red snapper was nicely seasoned but the meat was too tough. The steak was decent but not remarkable, it too, was slightly on the tougher side even though it was a good cut. The service was attentive and pretty consistent. The space is beautiful but a bit worn. Overall this is a very nice venue, however they could moderate the portions in favor of greater variety. Let me start by saying the biggest compliment I can pay them is everyone who attended the wedding can't stop talking about the service, the food, and the ambiance. I will forever be in debt to Melissa for assisting us through this entire process. She was such a pleasure to work with. Angel, our maitre d' and our ceremony florist, had everything flowing smoothly, and made sure everything looked beautiful. He is a such a beautiful person. Sonia our head server was fantastic! At one point, I was about to lose my composure because my nerves were getting the best of me. She pulled me to the side and she reminded me to stay present in the moment and to take the moment in. She was truly a calming presence and words can't describe how fortunate we were to have her. The main take away from this experience is I wouldn't change a thing! I went here for a wedding and will definitely say the venue is beautiful however there were several other aspects which impacted my review. The cocktail hour servers were skimpy with serving food at stations. In the main ballroom our server spilled an entree all over our table. Once additional servers came over to assist with clean up; the table cloth remained wet and stained as did the chair. There was broken glass remaining on our dinner table and water in the butter tray. I would say our experience was much less than great. read more

I ripped my dress right before the first dance and right away the staff sewed up the hole and gave me the confidence to complete the dance. Rip and fix aside everything ran so smoothly. I am a Type A planner and we ran into no bumps or issues. The decorations looked beautiful, the waiters were so good my family tipped them, everyone loved the food, they made sure the wedding party was well fed (the wedding suite literally had piles of food just for us when we arrived from the church ceremony!!), and the tables looked great! My Maitre and Wedding Attendant were helpful the whole night and made me feel special. I'm actually a little surprised that I'm only the 7th review for the Grandview...it's been around for 6 years and of the thousands of people through here, only a handful rate it, shame. I'm not sure where to start..I've been on two sides of enjoyment of the Grandview. I've attended a wedding, been in a wedding and have gotten married all at the Grandview and the place is rock solid. The first ever event/wedding was September 1, 2006 and it was my lifelong friend, I was the Maid of Honor. The dishes/place settings arrived the DAY OF THE WEDDING! Yep, no joke....and you would have never known. The cocktail hour is over the top and most guests think this IS the reception because of the food selection. There are servers constantly replacement empty platters and the maitre'd has an earpiece which I assume goes back to the kitchen to let them know what needs to be replaced. It ran like a top! My wedding was a few years later May 2010. Talk about relaxed wedding planning. There's no need for a wedding planner if you wet married here, they basically do almost everything for you! BONUS! I planned my wedding in 8 months and I wasn't stressed one bit. Margaret was my contact person and upon our first meeting with her, we picked the date, gave a deposit and received the deadlines and all paperwork necessary to make this happen. Let me talk about the $$ side. Someone mentioned the cost, I disagree. My parents were in SHOCK as to how cheap the wedding was. 129 people, Saturday (afternoon), main Ballroom...ceremony on the back patio...and ALL costs such as dress/flowers/favors, etc was barely over $20,000 (this also included additional cost for some meals). I feel that is extremely reasonable for the size wedding and location. It was an afternoon wedding which had a lower guest minimum and cheaper plate cost. We had to guarantee 100 people whereas the evening reception we would have to guarantee 175. Grandview supplies napkins to match your colors as well as any.cake.you.can.ever.choose. I went with a 4-tier square cake, with green ribbon, which they ordered so it was the correct color. We dropped off the bathroom baskets, favors and any other addition things a couple days before the wedding so it was set up...none of us had to lift a finger. I could clearly go on and on about the Grandview, but I think it sells itself. They are a "wedding factory", yet they made me feel like I was the only wedding ever to be held there, I felt special and that they really cared about our wedding. Also, the outdoor ceremony was absolutely amazing (another thing they plan themselves, so it's something the Bride/Groom do not have to worry about). A+++ My guests are still talking about the wedding that it was the best they have ever been to, and that makes me feel so great. Open bar is included, you can include the tip or leave jars for your guests to tip themselves, they do not allow shots, and they card everyone, no ID, no alcohol. Amazing place. I've also been here for their Easter Brunch and that is just as delicious. Also, they include a Bridal Show for you and a guest as well as a "mock wedding" you can attend and do the food tasting with many other couples with dates planned...all included in the cost of the wedding. Regarding the cost, they only accept cash or check. No credit card...if you don't have the money in hand, you can't get married here. For the outdoor ceremony space, they give up to 1 hour before the wedding to move it indoors (in case of weather or any other unforeseen event). There is a bridal suite, champagne and apps ready for you post ceremony. I also want to mention the package includes a Honeymoon Suite the night of the wedding and 5 guest rooms at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. The 5 rooms can be used any way you want...1 guest for 5 nights, or 5 guests for 1 night or whatever you want. Our suite was amazing with a gorgeous bathroom. There are two Trolley's that are used as transportation from the Poughkeepsie Grand to the Grandview for all your guests all day of the wedding, which changes to an 11-passenger van after 11:00pm if you choose to go next door to Shadows to keep the party going! My husband and I had our ceremony and reception here and were beyond happy with the experience! It may be on the pricier side for upstate NY but you get a lot for your money! As the bride I got a personal assistant or maître d' that helped myself and my husband with anything and everything we needed. It really helped ease the stress that is inevitable with having a wedding! Everyone was so helpful and friendly! Another great thing with the Grandview is that you do have to have a minimum of 100 people for the indoor ballroom but if some guests cancel you can use the plate price towards an upgrade! First, see my review for Shadows. My issue is the food. I was here for a wedding. There were 135 people and everyone ordered from a limited selection. After my bout with suspected food poisoning from a chicken dish at Shadows the night before, I chose to go with steak, even though I'm not a regular beef eater. I ordered it medium rare. It came out lukewarm at best, just like the night before, and VERY undercooked. I was starving so I ate it, but am regretting it now. The kitchen is huge, but big doesn't mean good. You've got to keep the food hot! Maybe stick to buffets? I've worked in catering and there wasn't once an issue with cold dinners. Have occupied the restroom for a better part of today, and starting to feel pukey again tonight. Not happy when I have a relatively early flight home. 5 star view and stunning venue. Amidst COVID wedding planning could only be described as an unmitigated disaster. My fiance (now wife) and I at the time were very skeptical of what could and could not be done. With continuous regulation changes and a lot of unknown (especially in New York), the absolute stress level was sky-high. That was when we decided to check out The Grandview. She was friendly, open to ideas, and beyond knowledgeable of everything that a wedding would require and all the steps we needed to do to make it happen. She and the staff at the Grandview continued to be transparent and remained continuous with their communication informing us of everything regulation and rule changes. Margaret promptly responded to each of our e-mails addressed all of our concerns and made us feel completely at ease with everything day or night. Even though we knew that it was her job to be in the hospitality business she took the time to go absolutely above and beyond what was required to ensure that we were happy, that our needs were met and taken care of, and that even though COVID was an issue ceremony still could happen and that our wants and needs could be met. Margaret also ensured that we would be taken care of fully without issue if COVID reasons caused us to have to cancel or back out. When actions are stronger than words Margaret and her staff proved time and time again that the establishment cared about us and that they would make good on any promise made. Moving on... To the Tasting ... The food was absolutely amazing although we did not get to try everything we wanted the staff made sure that my now wife and I were catered to and anything we needed was right there for us. The Grandview Still allowed for multiple different options that catered to our wants. We were able to discuss these wants and our options with every staff member that was present. The venue was immaculately clean... and sample sizes were well portioned and we left stuffed. The venue: The view of this venue is second to none. Overlooking the Hudson river the train and the bridge each view day or night is breathtaking. Due to the size of our wedding, we opted to have our cocktail hour and dinner in the same room. The Table seating worked perfectly for everyone to enjoy their food as well as have the ability to interact and be social while also giving those who were worrisome about the visit to have the ability to be distant enough but still feel fully included, welcomed, and like they could be comfortable taking off their masks for a few minutes to eat their meal. This of course added to the amazing views from three walls of windows.. and the ability to maneuver in and out to the balcony throughout the night. The wedding night ... Which was perfect... Although limited to 50 or fewer people... and with no dancing (thanks Cuomo you waste) The Grandview worked tirelessly to ensure that everything ran smoothly. Staff members wore masks and gloves and catered to everyone in a manner that was not only professional but also personal which made everyone feel included. They worked with all of our vendors flawlessly and made this night one the most memorable nights in our lives to date. our Maitre'd Debby was next to us every step of the way and like Margaret was one of the most helpful and genuine people. She ensured that every step was flawless from the minute we walked into the door. In Conclusion ... If you scroll past this venue you are making what I would characterize as a fatal error. The views, the staff, and their skill ensured us every minute and step of the way that we would be taken care of. The quality of the service is second to none and you will have the best night of your life.
