Arrival and check-in one out of five stars. Why? Diamond elite status was not recognized as is procedure with IHG HOTELS. Upgrade was not provided. Explanation of what time the breakfast will be served and where was not provided. Basically the arrival experience that is standard to IHG was not followed. Furthermore, there was no acknowledgment of a request for linen service the following day as requested via email The linens were not made up on day two as requested, my door was left a jar for at least 10 minutes while I was downstairs getting breakfast. And the communication internally at this hotel is lacking. The housekeepers are very nice, but clearly there is a lack of communication or they would have known that I was not checking out until 1 PM and that I needed linens and towels the day before. read more

I'm surprised at some of the low rated reviews. This was one of the cleanest holiday inns I went to. The room was well kept and supplies were given (even toothpaste and toothbrush, showercaps). Towels were changed daily and beds made and I was there for two nights three days. The indoor pool and hot tub were well kept and had separate towels for use. I would def return. I took one star off because we had the handicap bathroom and the standing shower was not draining well, water kept escaping out of the bathroom into the hallway. However once we spoke to the front desk , they accommodated lots of extra towels for us to dry the area up. read more

This hotel is SO disgusting and terrible that I wish I could award it not just zero stars but negative stars. Here's the headline: DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL with its caving in walls, mold covered bathrooms, and sopping wet carpet that is literally FUZZY with mold, unless you want your clothing to get soaked with sewage water and other people's shower runoff. Because that is exactly what happened to us. And to add insult to injury, they lied about how refunds work so they could refuse to even attempt to give us one. Long story short, the building should be condemned and you should NOT BOOK HERE. The details: -sewage water leaked out of the walls and onto the carpet one of our two suitcases was resting on. Sewage seeped through the suitcase and soaked all of the clothing inside, ruining $1000+ worth of clothes the day before an international flight. -the walls around the water damage were soft to the touch and able to be poked with a bare hand (see videos). -the bathroom has zero ventilation (no windows, no exhaust fan -- not up to building code) and resulted in loads of mold all over the bathroom walls and along the seams of the bathtub. -no swimming pool. Don't believe the website, it's inaccessible and they're ripping it out. -entire hotel stank of hot tar as they were replacing the parking lot. No warning about this at booking. Also smelled of cigarettes despite being 100% nonsmoking. Maybe related? -curtains do not fully close in any rooms -- tried two rooms, and in both there was a two-foot gap between curtains even when "pulled close." -manipulative, dishonest, and unwelcoming staff throughout our stay. Disgusting place. Management unbelievably unhelpful, dismissive & manipulative after we complained our bathroom was moldy, the carpets were wet, and it had ruined some of my clothes. No ventilation in bathroom - which I believe is illegal in NY State - which explains the mold. Whole place smelled bad, with a mix of cigarettes, damp, and stomach-churning tar being mixed for days surrounding the building. The pool is also permanently closed but they won't admit to it. I've been staying at several hotels for my job in the area. But I would rate this hotel as my favorite one so far for the price it's offered at. You're given all your basic amenities, there's a nice free breakfeast every morning -(surprisingly pretty good, but nothing too fancy), and the staff are very pleasant. The room service is also really good at maintaining the rooms. Some rooms have an outlet that doesn't work, or a light that's out, but this hasn't taken anything out of the experience for me. The location is fairly convenient for people traveling along the highway (only five minutes away from some major roads and the closest bridge across the Hudson River). But despite its proximity to a busy road, I've never had issue with noise. I would rate this a solid five stars for a hotel at this price. Nothing more and nothing less than a truly comfortable stay for the two separate weeks I've had to stay here! (12 nights). read more

Pretty standard Holiday Inn Express experience. Desk person checking me in had no idea where rooms are located. I asked to be put in a quiet room and was given a room immediately at Jason to the elevator! Fortunately, I was able to get the room changed to one that was away from hotel noise. Unfortunately, the noise from South Road permeated my room throughout the stay! Fortunately, the HVAC has a "constant fan" setting, so I was able to mask the majority of the loud traffic noise coming from the road. Without the constant fan feature, I think the noise from the road would be unbearable and certainly disrupt one's sleep, certainly mine! read more

We made a reservation in April for a double bed room and it was confirmed. When we checked in, we had a king-size bed and a sofa bed. When we complained about the situation, the front desk employee was dismissive and flat told us that the hotel was full and all they could do was to refund our money and that we could go somewhere else. Well, the reason why we had made that reservation for that particular room at that early of a time was because we knew it was going to be difficult to get a room since it was move in time for college kids. The hotel refused to reimburse us for the difference. Other things were annoying as the AC going on and off too often, the soap dispenser being broken and the toilet needed to be held in order to flush it. The plus sides are the fact that they offer Dove products and the water pressure is phenomenal. read more

I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews of this hotel. We stayed there for two nights and had minimal issues. Other than the fact, they do not use the pool any longer, but still advertise for it and we were unable to get into our room the second day and had to get assistance it is a very nice hotel. It is clean. The staff is courteous and helpful. The beds were comfortable. The AC worked well and the breakfast was of good quality. It was in a great location if you're visiting any of the national historic parks/sites. The noise from the traffic is not that bad and did not bother myself or the two additional people in the travel group. If you are skeptical, like I originally was, don't be. In my opinion, it was a very nice hotel for minimal cost. read more

Our stay wasn't too bad. I noticed dried pee on the toilet seat and hair on our "clean" sheets but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. The day after we got home, I had severe pink eye, which I've never had in my life. I'm guessing it was from the pillows? Our sheets also had yellow pee stains which was great. Beggars can't be choosers, so without expecting much in the way of nice hotels in Poughkeepsie, I was pleasantly surprised with how nice our one night stay was at this little Holiday Inn. The room was very spacious and exceptionally clean. There was a nice TV and nothing at all to complain about. They also had most of the amenities you could ask for, including an indoor pool and a small fitness center. The fitness room was sweltering to the level that it kind of felt like a sauna, but I guess you go to the gym to sweat anyway, so it was all good. Also, most importantly, free WiFi. They also have complimentary breakfast available in the mornings, with tons of hotel quality breakfast foods. So probably take off and find breakfast elsewhere, but everything about the experience here was great. read more

Pro tip-they have a super cool pancake machine that pours the batter inside and then pushes the cake out the side onto your plate! Rooms were clean and generic but it did the job. Not sure where all the bad reviews came from because I had a great stay! This is a great choice for a quick stay; I was here for 1 night to visit a school. The room was spacious and very clean with a microwave, Keurig and big TV. I got hungry at night and it was easy to use DoorDash to order a meal, delivered right to my door. The breakfast was delicious with many options and the staff was really friendly. Free wifi and the check in/check our process was super simple. There was no toothpaste or shower cap in my room but I called down to the front desk and they brought it up quickly. The MetroNorth is only about 5 minutes away and there were many uber's in the area. I didn't drive in but they also offer free parking. I would stay here again without hesitation. read more

I'm giving four stars for the ease of access to the Internet via the Wi-Fi. No crazy passwords or hoops to jump through, and if you're an IHG customer / member, you just have to enter your email address. I stayed here for three nights, and check in was easy. We didn't have any issues with our key cards, but several members of our family who were staying in other rooms had to get new cards made regularly. We made it to breakfast the 2nd morning because it was open until 10am (Saturday) and it was decent. Push button for two pancakes. The other items were not regularly stocked and ran out constantly. There was a pool that my kids used and they enjoyed when it wasn't raining. I appreciated the flavored water on hand in the lobby (cookies were all out). Parking was plentiful, although not very well lit in some areas at night. Housekeeping was friendly enough when we asked for more towels, but we didn't have our room serviced because of all the stuff we had in there, so I can't comment on their skills. As for the shower though, the water pressure left something to be desired, and the hot water took a good couple of minutes to warm up. For a large hotel, that shouldn't happen, right? Overall a pretty decent stay at the HIEP. read more

It is in the middle of a highway ( across from a cemetery) an it took us about 25 minutes to walk to anywhere to get food They do have a shuttle but apparently they don't have either good drivers or they just don't like to use it. The stay at this Holiday Inn Express was kind of hit or miss. The hotel is laid out weirdly - you have to walk through the entire first floor of the hotel before you get to the elevators (I feel bad for anyone in those particular rooms!) The room itself is very well-appointed. The layout is quite nice and the bed is extremely comfortable. The AC is quiet and doesn't have that loud clunking sound of other hotels. The water pressure in the shower was wonderful. The only bad thing in the room - and it's a big one - the TV didn't work. I didn't get in until very late at night, so I was too tired to deal with it, but it should never have been an issue in the first place. For breakfast - there are actually a lot of options. It's a tight squeeze in the room to get food, so bring your patience, but it's pretty good for an included meal! The coffee set-up is outside of that area, so it's easy to grab a cup whenever. And it's actually pretty good too. Overall, if you are looking for a hotel to stay for a night, I would recommend this hotel. I would make sure to ask for a room on a higher floor away from the elevators though! read more

Came to Poughkeepsie for my brothers wedding. I arrived first with no car. Coming from Chicago, I was expected uber to be available. Hotel, motel, Holiday Inn...Express. Stayed here for one night to attend a wedding at Locust Grove...great location (1/2 mile from the groves) and fairly short driving distance to the Mid-Hudson Bridge and the Hudson Rail Trails. Shopping center is nearby with Stop and Shop (aka the Giant of the north) and CVS (also Five Guys and Red Robin...but you are better off driving north into the city for better food). The King bed room was clean and well-equipped with enough towels, microwave, and fridge. No noise issues whatsoever (on the first floor and in the northeast corner, near end of a hall) and the bed is was comfortable (though not as comfy as Hampton Inn). Breakfast was phenomenal, with turkey sausage, cheese omelettes, biscuits, bagels, juices, and a pancake maker, as well as to-go oatmeal and yogurt cups. A small outdoor pool is available, as well as a fitness and business center. Self serve laundry on the 4th floor. Minus one star for adequate customer service...nothing bad but nothing special either, especially given that there's plenty of other options nearby (including the aforementioned Hampton Inn). read more

I've stayed at quite a few hotels in the Poughkeepsie area and this is one of the best. Rooms are clean comfortable and quite (don't get poolside if you want to go to bed early). Decent gym. Walking distance to a few restaurants and a grocery store. Good breakfast bar, staff is great. read more

Before I begin I should note this review is based on information from back in 2002/3, so hopefully conditions haven't changed that much, but I just thought of this place while reviewing another HI Express and had such a good experience here I thought it worth reviewing anyways. Back in '02 and '03 for several months I just about lived here during the week. I had a place in West Harlem in NYC but was working on a union campaign in this area so during the week and even some weekends I stayed here. The reason this place is getting five stars? It's all about the management/staff. The manager of the place was a German guy who fit the stereotype of a large, very friendly Bavarian. Really cool guy and he was all about hospitality. Even though HI Express hotels weren't set up for dinner and drinks, every now and then he'd set up a sort of "reception" for the guests in the breakfast area (in the evening) with beer, wine and hors d'oeuvres. He even hooked me up with what I called the "pimp suite" (jacuzzi and the whole nine) on a couple of occasions at the regular rate (I guess because the other organizers and I were giving the place such good business). Of course the hotel itself and the rooms were immaculately maintained. The front desk staff was also quite awesome, friendly and intelligent, and, needless to say, after staying there for so long we got on quite friendly terms, and some nights I'd come down and just chill at the front desk with a couple of beers and chat. The housekeeping staff was friendly and efficient and a couple of those maids were freakin hot! So yeah, if this place is anything like it was, I highly, highly recommend it if you're staying in the Poughkeepsie/New Paltz area. read more

A bit expensive for a no-frills experience. Everything was clean and functional, but that's about it. The bed was comfortable, and I appreciated that each pillowcase is embroidered with the word "firm" or "soft." Cute. Water pressure from one of those giant shower heads was ok. Check-in was straightforward, pleasant but not friendly. The rest of the staff appeared to be hard-working and of the strong/silent variety; the breakfast crew cleaned the area until it was spotless, without disturbing those of us nursing a cup of coffee after hours. I didn't use the exercise room, outdoor pool (obviously, it's November), or business center, but they all seemed fine. Wi-fi worked flawlessly. Breakfast was awful (although the coffee was ok), and the styrofoam plates just made it worse. Do yourself a favor and go for the instant Quaker oatmeal packets; you'll thank me. I've stayed in much worse for more $$$. The room was reasonably clean. Staff was friendly and resourceful. Our sink in our room didn't drain. Took like 15 minutes before the water went out of it and there is seriously like NO hot water. Have to run the shower for a solid 5 minutes before the water turned "Luke warm". So if a hot relaxing shower is what your looking for, you're better off finding another establishment. read more

The two stars is solely for the front desk guy who offered me his charger when i left mine at home. Great employee! I asked a different employee for one from "the box" of chargers every hotel has from those left behind but "they didn't have any". When i checked in, the non-working elevator was now working... until I got up to the 4th floor. Then it stopped working. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean but I had to turn on the shower 10 minutes b4 i needed hot water. It did eventually get there though. The non-functional elevator should have been forwarned since it had been out for 2 days prior. I should have stayed at the Marriott accross the street. As should you. read more

The TV was a little blurry, which was a bit troublesome when we were watching a movie we paid for. Other than that, the hotel was great. The free breakfast was especially awesome - pancakes, omelets, bacon, sausage, cinnamon rolls, cereal, almond milk, yogurt, and biscuit and gravy - couldn't really have asked for more. read more

I have to start this review by saying that we didn't actually stay there yet BUT my fiance and I had stopped in after viewing The Grandview as a potential wedding venue this past weekend. The Grandview provides transportation to the Holiday Inn Express which is just a few minutes down the road as part of their wedding package. While we were waiting to speak to someone in the lobby, a very sweet housekeeping person had asked if they could help us while the front desk person was on the phone! I thought that was so kind of her! I wish I got the name of the gentleman that was working the front desk too, but he helped answer a lot of questions we had about booking rooms for the wedding. Apparently they don't do wedding blocks, but they do offer discounted room rates for a wedding up until the actual date of the wedding! They will allow the discounted room rate for as many rooms that are available so we don't actually have to block a set of rooms or be held accountable for rooms we don't use. We asked to see a room as well as a suite which a member of housekeeping escorted us too. We were happy with the standard rooms and were amazed at how nice and big the suites are! Every staff member we encountered that day really made such an great impression, and we will definitely arrange our accommodations here if we end up booking at The Grandview! read more

Nice staff. Nice rooms. Very nice breakfast until an amazing 10:00 am. The problem was from three manhole covers in the parking lot that were leaking "septic tank" effusion on to the driveway. Obviously emitting a malodorous odor. Keeping the window closed protected us from the smell except for when walked outside.
