Holy clams! Went to Shadowland last night with a party of four and the service was great....the poutine appetizer was very tasty...and we tried both clam dishes, which were absolutely amazing! Best I have had in the city, and that is saying a lot in Seattle. read more

Great place, good food, awesome service. There is entertainment, sometimes even aerial arts, beautiful girls hanging from the ceiling. Like Vegas or LA. The Thai chicken wings are awesome and everyone there seems to be having a good time. I really liked this place. Someone is doing something right. read more

Great place to chill on a cold NW Saturday with savory biscuits and gravy, paired with a Boneyard IPA. The staff is easy on the eye and the mix is easy on the ear. read more

I frequent shadowland quite a bit, and I happened to be in the vicinity of the user April C the other night, and feel I should set some things straight. I didn't hear everything that happened since i typically keep to myself, but my attention was grabbed by a sudden and rude whistle at the bartender. Being in the service industry myself (also as April claims she is in) we understand that this is one of the absolute worst ways to get someone's attention. Not only is it condescending, but rude overall. I thought the bartender actually handled the situation very well and was nothing short of diplomatic. I honestly hope that April keeps true to her review and doesn't come back. Don't be rude to your service staff people, they're working their butts off to serve you, show some gratitude. read more

Bar is nice with a few friends to hang with. I didn't get to put in great reviews going here but this makes up for it.

AJ was our server, she bent over backwards to pick up the slack of another employee and it wasn't even her table. Place was packed that day! Great bar. Bartenders are cool, too. Not afraid to pour heavy but they know how to mix drinks as well. Cheers to Shadowland! read more

Took almost 30 min for them to come take our order. No one sat us. Maybe it's seat yourself. Food was great and good happy hour and live music. read more

Zero stars if I could. DO NOT GO HERE!!! I went in for dinner, the waitress (the one with the colorful tattooed sleeve) was a total complete bitch to me. She tried to take my food before I was done. I told her no, I wasn't finished then she tried to take the beer right out of my hand (my second). I pulled back and said "are you in a hurry? Do you need my seat?" she replied do you need to act like such a child?. I then said you are really rude. She just started full on bitching at me at which point I said "hey I'm your customer, leave me alone and let me eat in peace". She continued to harass and bitching at me at which point I said like three times "leave me alone". Her next move was to say you have to leave. I wasn't 1/2 done with my meal and she said to bad looser you already paid for it. Please everyone DO NOT SUPPORT this place. They need to be gone. I have never in my life been kicked out of a bar. I am one of the good guys. read more

If I could leave less than one star I totally would. I went here last weekend with a large party for a friend's birthday. Food was okay, drinks were okay, service was okay. Then the bill came. They told us it was their policy not to split the bill for large parties (???) and that all the restaurants in West Seattle have the same policy (???!!!). So they left it up to us to initial each item on the receipt and make a separate list with the items to be charged on each card. It was a pain, but whatever. Then half the party left and just as the rest of us were getting ready to leave, they told us will still owed $100 because they didn't include tax or automatic gratuity when they ran the cards the first time. So, even though it was a drag, we split the remainder owed between us and gave them our cards again (we were told the first charge would be voided - mine wasn't, I had to file a charge dispute with my bank). At this point, a couple of people in our group pointed out that if this was their policy that they should consider: a) making people aware of it beforehand b) making sure that tax and gratuity get added onto each subtotal the first time the cards are run to avoid serious confusion. Then the manager came over; she was hands-down the most unprofessional and rude person I have ever encountered in the service industry. She was altogether nasty to us. We were all so shocked at the way the whole thing had been handled, and we just wanted to get out of there (the entire process with the bill disaster took more than 40 minutes!). I approached the manager on my way out and (politely) told her that her behavior was unprofessional and unfounded and that was no way to treat people who had just spent $400 at her establishment. Then she said they were just too busy to deal with this (there were only like 5 other small tables and a handful of people at the bar). She told me if I didn't like it I should find another restaurant and never come back there again. Done. I've read other reviews here that also point out the general rudeness of the management and staff - how they stay in business with management like that is astounding to me, but we will never go back, and I advise others to follow suit. There is no excuse for being treated that way when you are trying to give a business your money. read more

Love this place. This is definitely our regular stop. Great happy hour menu. Amazing service every time we go. When we think to do happy hour, this is always our first choice. Great variety of options and the food and drinks are on point read more

Good food. Good drinks. Great customer service. Cool vibe. Great location. There is a nice big bar and also booths for group seating

This place cracks me up. I've gone there 3 times in the past 3 weeks. The service was awful. Boy, you sure get that bottle of water right off the bat, but after that good luck. Eventually they come back to get your drink order. BTW- I could have given them my drink order when I got my water. BTW- The water was replaced quickly once it was empty. I'm now very hydrated. Sitting with an empty glass is standard. Food is good. My hunch is that this is the culture of this place. Hospitality is not much of a priority. Luckily there is so many other places in West Seattle to go to that actually care about their customer's experience. I never leave those places pissed off. read more

My husband and I have been living in West Seattle for a year now and we have places that we frequent and truly enjoy going to. Let me be very clear, we like good quality food and excellent service. Before we go anywhere, I like to read other people's reviews and based on that I choose whether it would be worth trying or not. In reading Shadowland's review I was apprehensive but decided to give it a try. Both my husband and I LOVE coming here. The food and drinks, never disappoints and to make things perfect the service is Amazing. Everyone has always given excellent service. I especially want to give a shout out to HEATHER, who truly represents what this place is about and makes sure we feel welcomed and cared for every time we visit. Thank you Shadowland and staff! read more

I've been here twice and the food was better than I thought it would be. But that's not saying a whole lot. Oh, I've also met the owners and they are nice guys. I'd love to see them succeed here. The Poutine and the Wagyu beef burger are worth trying. It is what it is: a little neighborhood joint. Great for West Seattlites. Not worth driving over the bridge for. With that said, I do have a few problems with the place: The huge flatscreens over the bar with ESPN glaring down on you is a mistake. West Seattle already has enough of those kinds of places. More alarming: Each time I've been there at least one person in my party has been served with a glass that has multiple chips on the rim. WTF?! Didn't this place just open?! These guys need to buy some sturdier drinking glasses. But not for nothing, how does both a bartender and a server both miss this? It is NOT that dim in there. Lastly, like most restaurants, the kitchen staff are smoke fiends who are in and out of that back door constantly to smoke cigs. That means lovely waves of palate-killing smoke for the unlucky patrons seated in booths at the back. I don't give a shit if people smoke but I don't want to smoke when I'm just trying to eat there. They should have called the place 'Smokeland' or maybe 'Chipped Pint Glass Land." read more

Oh Shadowland, you were the first place I went when I moved into the neighborhood and was hungry for some vegan eats. Best vegan burger I have ever had! Pickle chips are amazing! My server was awesome! The beer selection has gotten way better. Didn't order beer this time, but my cocktail was made perfectly. I wished I lived in West Seattle so I can eat here more! read more

Worst service ever!!! It's Saturday at noon. The bartender comes out from behind the bar and checks on ALL the bar tables. Doesn't acknowledge my presence. Then cleans all the tables around me. Doesn't acknowledge my presence. When I wave hello to her she says sow one else will come over and help me. Funny, she had literally taken care of all the other tables but will not help me. Customer service ZERO. read more

Had a late breakfast here for the first time... The biscuits & gravy were amazing and for $9 came with 2 eggs and potatoes... Cute, friendly servers and relaxed atmosphere, with a bar in case a drink was needed... Will TOTALLY be back! read more

There are lots of things I like about this place. Good food, good drinks, good beer selection, amateur aerial artist night, nice dark atmosphere, baseball on the TV almost as a rule. But I am saddened to say, I can't bring myself to go back to this place. I've read far too many negative reviews about their (lack of good) service, and sadly, I've experienced it myself too many times. Tonight, it was the last straw, unfortunately. I came in just before 8 PM, and the place was just over half full, including the rail seats. Casta was the bartender. All of the customers at the rail had drinks and food, and there weren't any drink orders up when I arrived, because the bartender was doing ancillary things, which I realize are important, but not more so than the newest customer in the bar. It did eventually appear she had some drink orders come up, but this was after she disappeared for a good 5 minutes (maybe a bathroom break, I get it, but AFTER she saw me). I waited literally 15 minutes for her to take my order, even after I know damn well she saw me, we made eye contact. She made it a point to ignore me, even so much as to literally walk PAST me at the 15 minute mark, to CLEAR SOMEBODY'S PLATE, trying to ignore me. I had to raise my hand and ask, "can I get a beer??" at which point she couldn't possibly ignore me anymore. Now I am not a douchebag, I don't look like a douchebag, and I have never in my life treated waitstaff, servers, buspersons, or bartenders disrespectfully. I have always tipped well at Shadowland, as well. I damn sure didn't deserve that kind of disrespect. I tip at least 15% as a rule, and on this occasion, I tipped less than 4% on the beer I ordered because I was so irritated by how I was treated. I was so fed up I didn't even want to stick around to order another beer or food, which is almost always what I'm planning on doing when I stop into a bar solo. Hence, she lost tip, and the establishment lost sales. I am truly disappointed, and will not be back. This bar is literally losing business over crappy, entitled service. I am also going to make it a point to spread this story among my friends and recommend they don't return either. Absolutely unacceptable to continually have this kind of service in a place with so much potential. The hammer needs to come down. read more

The food is okay and the service is crappy. I was annoyed once I got home and saw that my server had given herself a tip. I won't be going back. read more

Really great happy hour menu and prices, a lot of variety. Awesome french fry poutine! The only reason I am not giving it a 5 is because sometimes the service is a bit slow and the breakfast is just ok (compared to the regular menu). Must try though! read more

Giving this place 3 stars because it is typically deserving of 3 stars. No more. Food is good enough. Drinks are pretty good too. Ambiance is fine. But this story needs to be told. One of the bartenders is crazy. We tried yelling to him and tried waving him down to let him know we didn't want well whiskey and he didn't hear us. Did the 3 amigos whistle to try and stop him from pouring the wrong booze and he flipped out. He came over and yelled at us. Told us to stop treating him like a dog. He was extremely confrontational. It was so harmless and he was basically acting like he was going to fight my husband. I tried explaining to him that we had tried other ways to get his attention and that we use that three amigos whistle in our family all the time to locate each other in the store but he wouldn't even listen to me. We even tried apologizing but he wouldn't listen. Just kept yelling at us and making us really uncomfortable. We cancelled our next drinks and promptly left. Before we left he said he was glad we were going to leave. We had brought some out of town guests with us and they were appalled by the treatment. Needless to say, I'll never go back since I expect that he may be there and I'm not playing that game. My husband talked to him and apologized more for making him upset but after we got home we felt that he probably should have apologized to us for overreacting! We've been in shock. We work in the restaurant industry and have been whistled at before. We can maybe understand his point but it does not excuse his totally ridiculous reaction. It was rude and scary and a deal breaker for any future visits. We hadn't been anything but nice to the guy and he was way out of line. Unfortunate cause we've had good service there. Never again. read more

Been a while but glad to report this place has not slipped at all like many establishments eventually do. Good service. Great selection of drinks at reasonable prices (I especially enjoy the Moscow Mule served in the copper cup.) Good food, also at reasonable prices. Excellent dark, sort of 'sultry' yet very casual atmosphere. We had the pork lettuce boats and the jalapeno mac and cheese (fairly spicy) and both were excellent and the portions were very generous. I reserve 5 stars for absolute perfection and I'd say the food is 4.25 stars not 5-stars. This continues to be in my top 3 or 4 go-to places when I want a good meal in a good atmosphere in West Seattle. read more

Amazing!! The Steak Freitas was more like a whole steak with a side of fries. Chicken wings were flavorful and a good balance between hot and sweet. The Champagne Supernova was delicious! Excellent!! read more

2/24/2012 I took a date to the late happy hour and looked over the HH menu...sounded good...we asked the waitress what something was and she said it was a bisquet that had chicken on it with mashed potatoes, gravy and cheese. I was a hard cold bisquet with overcooked (probably left-overs or day old) thin chicken, I got a piece from my date and said "where's the mashed potatoes?" and she said "I don't know", after searching, she gave me the tip of her knife with the little smear of potatoe, I didn't see the cheese and was very little gravy to choke down the hard bisquet. My app was "boneless Buffalo chicken", the chicken was over or pre-cooked and had a bitter hot sauce that was unedible, other than the fact I was hungry and don't like to complain, especially in front of a date. On a previous visit, the dessert was still frozen. I wished I had remembered about the unmemerable app I had before and the frozen dessert. This place was not busy, so no excuse for a long wait time and overdone food, as well as over-priced, it's obvious they don't care what they're serving. They need to wake up, read these reviews, and get better cooks or something. I don't know how they stay in business! I wished we had gotten in the car and went to Matador down the street... we would have had great food, at a great price, with great service...and I wouldn't have been embarrassed! read more

Happened to be in West Seattle and spotted Shadow Land. A great neighborhood place to be sure! Lucky are those who order the Steak Frites on the happy hour menu - it INCLUDES a culotte steak grilled to perfection (love rare beef) and the frites are something special - very crisp! Fried pickles are so good and plentiful! Salad of kalamata olives, grape tomatoes and cucumbers was crispy cold and very very tasty. If in West Seattle again, we'll be back there! Oh and service was great! read more

Having continued to read rave reviews, we decided to try Shadowland for the 3rd time., although each of the other times we were unimpressed. Had I stuck with a glass of Malbec and the jalepeno poppers, I might have thought it was an ok place. Instead, we opted for the buffalo chicken (tough and dry) the clams (rubbery and overdone) and waited 20 minutes for the roast chicken (also extremely dry and not very flavorful.) Tried a glass of the "happy hour" red wine- it tasted pretty much like two buck chuck.. I really can't see the appeal and won't try again. read more

I wanted to like this place and after two bad experiences with mediocre service I gave it a final try. Tonight my girlfriend and I were served with a round of drinks and appetizers and we never saw our server again. We tried to order more but alas noone showed up. Forty five minutes we waited. Finally, my friend had to approach the bar for our check. We left a sad tip and went down the street to the West 5 where service is always great. Shadowland, where is your manager/owner? read more

Love this place! Great food-- love the lettuce boats, pho, and Cuban. The food is great and the wine pours are heavy! Favorite local spot!

This place is awesome! I travel from Woodinville just for their vegan burger. Best vegan burger i have ever had in my life! it has a double(can't believe it isn't meat) patty, loaded with veggies, and enormous flavor. The pickle fries are wonderful, airy, light, and crispy. Every drink I've had there has been made perfectly and the waitstaff, bartenders, and cooks were always pleasant and wonderful at their jobs. I fully recommend eating here. I'm sure the rest of the food is amazing as well, but I just cant stop ordering the vegan burger! read more

Staff up! Our poor server could barely get our drink order and food menus to us and we had to cancel an entree order because we were running out of time. And I think I was served the wrong beer. The food was pretty good, however. Try the jalep Mac n cheese or pork boats. Also, the place smelled like what I would think a urinal cake would smell like. But I would go back because they have Boundary Bay Scotch on tap. read more

Yummy Vegan burgers with Chao Cheese! And fried pickle chips! Happy hour can't be beat!

Decent beer selection, food is average but service is absolutely terrible (waitresses couldn't remember if we placed an order, took 15-20 minutes to get her attention). With plentiful standard bar fare options around the Junction, see no way that I'd ever be back. read more

I'm giving this place 5 stars, this place gets it right for food, service, a great HH, and great cocktails!! We've been here twice (both on Friday evenings). The first time it was for HH, we were pleased to see the menu, $6 small plates... I got pulled pork sliders, and they were great. My boyfriend got the mac n cheese, and its awesome!! The bartender even added broccoli for us, since we got in a little convo about healthy eating LOL... I don't think anything could redeem that mac n cheese but it is worth every calorie. We didn't order drinks from the HH menu ( I think it includes, wine, well drinks, and PBR) I wanted one of the amazing sounding cocktails. I saw a strawberry rhubarb infused rum, and had to try it. It was yummy! They have a great selection of infused liquors, that they do themselves and you can see them on the bar. Then last Friday, we went for dinner. I got the Prime Rib dip, loved it. My boyfriend got a burger and fries, you can't really go wrong. We split an order of the fried pickles, I'd never had this before but it was good. But the best part about this place is the service. Both times it was the same bartender working, and he actually remembered us. We had gone in like 3 weeks before. Both times we were so impressed with him, he was friendly, made conversation, joked around with us and was super attentive. I wish I remembered his name but I don't :( we'll be going back very soon! read more
