ChickenBreastKabob
Sein S.

I visited recently with a very large group and because of our size, we were seated in the back glass outhouse area. Since it was a weekday in March, it was quite dark and chilly; while the staff did their absolute best to keep us comfortable, the outdoor heaters couldn't quite beat the early spring cold. There were a few hiccups with our orders being mixed up, but honestly, I think that was mostly due to our group's size being a bit overwhelming for the space. I have a feeling the service would be much smoother for a smaller party, but the food more than made up for the wait. I had the chicken breast kebab with a side salad, and it was fantastic--the flavors felt truly authentic to Persian cuisine. I'd definitely come back, perhaps with a smaller group next time to stay inside where it's a bit warmer!

Bakhtiari (~$34 on UberEats)

Ordered: Chicken Soltani (~$24 on UberEats): one chicken kabob and one beef koobideh with half saffron basmati rice & half shirazi salad with grilled tomato and lime Bakhtiari (~$34 on UberEats): one chicken kabob and one beef kabob with half saffron basmati rice & half shirazi salad with grilled tomato and lime Aya's take: Being Middle Eastern myself and having had my fair share of Persian food, I was not impressed with Seven Valleys (3.5/5 is a more accurate rating) but considering the lack of options/competition in Hoboken and North Jersey in general, it's decent and does the job. For the price, it felt like the portion could have been better. The saffron basmati rice was also overcooked and not as fragrant or aromatic as I'm used to. It was very buttery and went well with the meats. The meats were the best part of this. The Chicken Soltani & Bakhtiari are both great options if you're looking for variety of meats. The chicken kabob was great but had no sumac on it which is practically unheard of in Persian cuisine. The beef kabob was super tender but they were more like strips not chunks, which again isn't very traditional. The beef koobideh was well-seasoned, slightly dry, but still decent. It was very filling and tasted like home but don't expect to be blown away by any means.

Came here for brunch, the food was really good and enjoyed the light decor. Service was decent but she missed that we asked for the eggs over medium - all good though. It was also a shame they didn't have one of the items on the already short brunch menu but the chocolate tahini French toast was to die for! Not too sweet either. The tea was delicious, we really liked the saffron honeycomb touch. The platter was nice too, but it would've been nice if a meat option was available to come with it. Would love to come back for their dinner menu!

Ordered takeout. Delicious food! but the portion size is rather small compared to other restaurants. I would order again.

Stopped in here for lunch one random day. Seven Valleys had been on my list for quite sometime. The space is small, quiet and serene. They had a pretty decent lunch special for $13.95 which was your choice of a kebob with rice and shirazi salad. I got the chicken and I added an appetizer of Masto Khiar which is the yogurt. The food was excellent. It was a pretty good lunch portion though I could have used one more piece of chicken. The rice was fantastic. The rice was fluffy and flavorful. The chicken was moist and tender. I did not care for the bread too much but I also prefer to eat the yogurt with my meal. The server was very friendly but it was a pretty slow service. It had a chill vibe in there so I was not expecting a fast paced meal. Just keep in mind that it might be slow when eating on your lunch break.I will certainly be back for dinner very soon.

Baklava

Small quaint place, quick & attentive service and fresh, good food -- just the right combination required for late Saturday lunch! We had Kale Salad with chicken, Veg kebab platter and their bread with cherry jam. Food was tasty. We both loved the cherry jam with cardamon. My veg platter was almost perfect, just lacking some sauce to tie it together. Oh and the best part....you can buy a $2.00 piece of real good baklava to satisfy the sweet tooth without causing a dent in the diet :) Definitely try this place out. Dont remember if it is BYOB.....if it is next time carrying a bottle for the meal!

Best Dolma's we've ever had!! Food was exceptional and service was great. Ambience was wonderful as well. The lamb shank stood out and fell right off the bone! Will be coming back here.

Appetizer, forgot the name, but it's the one made from eggplants.

2nd time here and was with a group. Food was delicious and staff were friendly. The chicken chunks were big yet very tender and juicy, not dry at all. Just the skewers are a bit pricey (~$15 per skewer).

I placed on order through Yelp/Grubhub over 2 hours ago!!! Tried calling the restaurant twice and no one picked up. This is HORRIBLE customer service!

Baklava (comes with 4 pieces, already ate 2 before this picture)
Anna H.

I went to Seven Valleys on a weekday to try out their lunch special with two friends. I got the beef kabob with a side of hummus, and they got the chicken kabob, one with a side of baklava and the other with a side of hummus. The beef kabob was okay - I really wish I got the chicken kabob because it looked more flavorful and filling than the beef. They both enjoyed their chicken kabob, and one spoke highly of the baklava, so I decided to order it for dessert. There's actually four pieces of baklava for the dessert, but I had already eaten two before the picture was taken because it was so good! The lunch special is really a great deal, only $13.95 for the whole plate and definitely worth it. The restaurant itself is small (like a city restaurant) but cute ambiance, and it was pretty full for a weekday lunch crowd.

Medley for Two
Sarah V.

Decided to come here on a random weekday since we were in the area. Spot is on the smaller side and we asked to sit outside to enjoy the beginning of spring. Good vibes. We ordered the Medley for Two along with two appetizers (hummus and Potato Tadhig with chicken stew). My husband really liked the hummus and bread and even asked for seconds on the bread. My husband got the cherry soda and I got an iced tea for refreshments. They were busy so food came a little more spaced out, but I'm okay with it because the food was really yummy. Would like to come again for their brunch. Appropriate for a dinner with you partner or besties.

Beef kebab, rice, cucumber salad, pistachio baklava
Mike H.

Got the beef kebab lunch special with rice, cucumber salad, and mini baklava. The portion was just enough rather than heaping. The beef was good but could've been chewier and more flavorful. Overall the meal was healthy but not incredibly exciting. The baklava was dense and sweet and was the best I've had.

Chicken Soltani Kabab
Mel T.

Finally got to try this place for takeout (which I would recommend because there isn't that much seating). I ordered the Chicken Soltani (one skewer of chicken kebab, one skewer of koobideh kebab, served with rice or Shirazi salad and grilled tomato). I'm trying to cut back on carbs so I opted for the salad only, but I liked that they give you the option of doing half rice and half salad. The salad was only okay - it was a bit oily. It's pretty much like a Shepherd's salad. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two, if any. Both of the kebabs were amazing. The meat was tender and flavorful - especially the chicken. Don't let the looks fool you because it looks like it could be dry but it's actually the complete opposite. Can't wait to go all out next time and try some of their specialty rices!

After reading some reviews on Yelp, I recommended Red Bamboo and a couple of other places and let them pick and they were really excited after reading the menu, so on a rainy Monday, my husband and I met them here for dinner and we're glad we did! The place is small so the tables are intimate but that adds to the ambiance. Our server was super friendly and professional and helped explain the menu to us. We got a variety of appetizers including coconut "chicken", spring rolls and fried zucchini slices (my fave). For my entree, I just ordered an appetizer portion of the "chicken" satay. Everything tasted really good! I don't eat at a lot of vegan places so I'm not clear on whether or not people who are vegan like eating things that are designed to mimic meat so that made for an odd sensation of eating something that was similar in taste and texture to a meat dish. Once I got out of my head, I was just able to enjoy everything for what it was....good tasting food served well in a comfortable restaurant. Even if you're not vegan, I think you'd enjoy this place. I definitely would like to go back.

I ended with something so unnecessary and so wonderful, I'm glad I did it: The sticky toffee pudding. Just pure delight. It was relatively quiet when I was there. I could see how it could get a bit noisy if it were crowded. But even so, the people who visit are friendly and I ended up having a great conversation with the table next to me. I'll be back. So, from the vegan perspective, this is a popular and tasty place. We started with drinks, being lunchtime, we opted for non alcoholic drinks, the matcha colada and the salty maple macchiato. The matcha colada had a nice color but tasted mostly like coconut and pineapple which was still yummy. Friends ordered 3 different kinds of sushi and dan dan noodles with tofu. I was confused with the sushi as I thought vegans didn't eat fish...so yes I asked and was told that they probably made the "fish" with tapioca. I did try a bite of each roll (I was still full from the fest) and I was surprised that it tasted pretty good. They did a nice job with the roll and presentation. The matcha cheesecake was nice and creamy. I would not have known it was vegan. I don't normally like food that pretends to be something else because it usually doesn't live up to the real thing. The idea is that it is not pretending to be something but rather substituting with vegan options, I do think from a health perspective, I am more open to trying more vegan foods. Ambiance felt upscale and wait staff were helpful and congenial. I hear dinner time gets packed here. I may have to try again when I have not eaten already.

The second bowl had fewer mushrooms, but they weren't the headliner for me anyway. The true stars? The black beans, pickled onions, and that dreamy butternut cashew cheese. I would like to formally thank whoever invented that combination. But the real reason I'll keep coming back to this restaurant anytime I am anywhere near this neighborhood? The Matcha Latte. I had it iced with my meal -- so good even the melted ice tasted fancy. Then I had it hot with a Chunk Chocolate Cookie which is dangerously delicious but that hot matcha was rich, smooth, and absolutely scrumptious. I even went online afterward to hunt for the Matcha recipe in her cookbooks (turns out there's a lot of matcha desserts, which may or may not be a problem for future me). Bottom line: I will absolutely be back -- probably "just for a matcha"... and somehow leave with a cookie again.

And that's really one of the best things about this location of Le Botaniste (there around 7 locations in the city) - being right across from Bryant Park, you can enjoy a healthy lunch while enjoying the park! So what is Le Botaniste? It's an organic, plant-based, and carbon-neutral cafe with locations in NYC and a couple in Europe. So everything is vegan. Everything is organic. The calories and other dietary information are listed on the menu. I had their Chef Priyanka Samosa Bowl (a seasonal offering), which includes brown rice, saag, samosa balls, crispy chickpeas, turmeric onions, tamarind and green chutneys, and yogurt raita. It is 433 calories and 12 grams of protein. I thought it was good - although I thought the samosa balls were quite dry (the chutneys, saag, and raita helped), and I liked that it was light and healthy and wouldn't slow me down for the rest of my busy day. I also grabbed a water and a quinoa peanut butter cookie that I saved in my bag for later. (I noticed that they had some wines that I would have been happy to try - if you eat in, you can have a full experience with a drink.) I showed up right at 11 when they opened, and there was only one other customer. My bowl was ready in seconds and I was out the door and across the street seated in Bryant Park within a minute or two.
