I had heard great things about Seven Valleys and wanted to give it a try. I stopped in for a late lunch and ordered with chicken kebab plate with an extra beef skewer plus a cherry soda. The cherry soda was presented beautifully and had a tasty flavor, but there was way too much syrup. It was very sweet. The plate comes simply with rice, a small dish of cucumber tomato salad, your protein and a lime wedge. You also get hummus or a piece of baklava. I chose the hummus that came in a very small ramekin. When I order a mix grill or Persian food, the plate usually looks a little more exciting and robust. This seemed paired down. I could have used a charred onion or a pickled vegetable. The cucumber tomato salad was good, the chicken was moist and the beef was tender. The rice was a little disappointing. The hummus tasted a bland, like it needed more tahini, garlic, salt and lemon. I know I was one of the last people in for lunch, maybe my timing was a bit off. I'm so glad I found Seven, finally a Persian restaurant close to Jersey City that's genuinely good. I ordered takeout and was blown away by the quality. The steak was extremely tender and seasoned perfectly, the chicken was soft with amazing flavor, and the kebab was just delightful. The pickle rice is honestly my favorite part of the meal, bright, flavorful, and something you don't find everywhere. I got the medley for two for around $54, and the portion was more than enough. I visited recently with a very large group and because of our size, we were seated in the back glass outhouse area. Since it was a weekday in March, it was quite dark and chilly; while the staff did their absolute best to keep us comfortable, the outdoor heaters couldn't quite beat the early spring cold. There were a few hiccups with our orders being mixed up, but honestly, I think that was mostly due to our group's size being a bit overwhelming for the space. I have a feeling the service would be much smoother for a smaller party, but the food more than made up for the wait. I had the chicken breast kebab with a side salad, and it was fantastic--the flavors felt truly authentic to Persian cuisine. For the price, it felt like the portion could have been better. The saffron basmati rice was also overcooked and not as fragrant or aromatic as I'm used to. It was very buttery and went well with the meats. The meats were the best part of this. The Chicken Soltani & Bakhtiari are both great options if you're looking for variety of meats. The chicken kabob was great but had no sumac on it which is practically unheard of in Persian cuisine. The beef kabob was super tender but they were more like strips not chunks, which again isn't very traditional. The beef koobideh was well-seasoned, slightly dry, but still decent. Came here for brunch, the food was really good and enjoyed the light decor. Service was decent but she missed that we asked for the eggs over medium - all good though. It was also a shame they didn't have one of the items on the already short brunch menu but the chocolate tahini French toast was to die for! Not too sweet either. Stopped in here for lunch one random day. Seven Valleys had been on my list for quite sometime. The space is small, quiet and serene. They had a pretty decent lunch special for $13.95 which was your choice of a kebob with rice and shirazi salad. I got the chicken and I added an appetizer of Masto Khiar which is the yogurt. The food was excellent. It was a pretty good lunch portion though I could have used one more piece of chicken. The rice was fantastic. The rice was fluffy and flavorful. The chicken was moist and tender. I did not care for the bread too much but I also prefer to eat the yogurt with my meal. The server was very friendly but it was a pretty slow service. It had a chill vibe in there so I was not expecting a fast paced meal. Just keep in mind that it might be slow when eating on your lunch break.I will certainly be back for dinner very soon. read more

Small quaint place, quick & attentive service and fresh, good food -- just the right combination required for late Saturday lunch! We had Kale Salad with chicken, Veg kebab platter and their bread with cherry jam. Food was tasty. We both loved the cherry jam with cardamon. My veg platter was almost perfect, just lacking some sauce to tie it together. Oh and the best part....you can buy a $2.00 piece of real good baklava to satisfy the sweet tooth without causing a dent in the diet :) Definitely try this place out. I went to Seven Valleys on a weekday to try out their lunch special with two friends. I got the beef kabob with a side of hummus, and they got the chicken kabob, one with a side of baklava and the other with a side of hummus. The beef kabob was okay - I really wish I got the chicken kabob because it looked more flavorful and filling than the beef. They both enjoyed their chicken kabob, and one spoke highly of the baklava, so I decided to order it for dessert. There's actually four pieces of baklava for the dessert, but I had already eaten two before the picture was taken because it was so good! The lunch special is really a great deal, only $13.95 for the whole plate and definitely worth it. The tahdig, when available, is helpful to a mix-and-match strategy as it features the stew of the day; I enjoyed the gheimeh beef. The baghali polo wasn't really my scene so next time I'll opt for the albaloo or zereshk. The standout so far is the ash reshte; to call this a mere soup would be unfair. The "fresh herbs" here are apparently a secret recipe, but at the risk of soupsplaining, ash reshte in general usually includes spinach, parsley and dill according to my secret sources, I mean Google. One of my absolute favorites restaurants in Hoboken! The kebabs are absolutely excellent- get them any type you want but vegetable, chicken and whole piece lamb are my favorites. Definitely suggest the specialty rice upgrade. Very homey feel in the small restaraunt that feels like you are getting cooked for in someone's beautiful kitchen. Finally got to try this place for takeout (which I would recommend because there isn't that much seating). I ordered the Chicken Soltani (one skewer of chicken kebab, one skewer of koobideh kebab, served with rice or Shirazi salad and grilled tomato). I'm trying to cut back on carbs so I opted for the salad only, but I liked that they give you the option of doing half rice and half salad. The salad was only okay - it was a bit oily. It's pretty much like a Shepherd's salad. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two, if any. Both of the kebabs were amazing. The meat was tender and flavorful - especially the chicken. Don't let the looks fool you because it looks like it could be dry but it's actually the complete opposite. Can't wait to go all out next time and try some of their specialty rices! read more

Having eaten persian food all my life, I feel entitled to a certain level of expertise on the matter, and with that said, I am happy to report to you dear yelpers, that Seven Valleys, is one of the best! On a cold January evening we were warmly greeted by the staff and sat Indoors. It is a charming little place, dimly lit and inviting. We started with a divine plate of Kashk Baden jan, a warm pureed eggplant dish with a bit of whey and fried onions. Though small on the portion size, the ratio of eggplant to fried mint was just perfect. Served with a few slices of what looked like crusty barbari bread, our appetites opened for the next dish: tahdig with ghorme sabzi on top. Tahdig is a crispy bottom of an oily pot of rice. The golden red color was just right, though the flavor of the oil was too overpowering. However, once the green stew - ghormeh sabzi- was placed on top, it dominated. This stew truly was everything! Tangy, earthy and so absolutely perfect. For the main dish: Grilled salmon with zereshk and dill rice, buttery fluffy concoctions both, served with a side of salad shirazi that was neither too tart nor too bland. Hoboken is about 30 minutes from midtown manhattan by car, and parking is not easy. And yet, having experienced this wonderful meal, we wowed that parking difficulties be damned! - we will be returning again. Perhaps next time, to enjoy their outdoors seating. I went with an order of fesenjan (a walnut and pomegranate stew with chicken), a side of sour cherry pilaf, and bread with a spicy beet yogurt. Delivery was on the slow side but the food was worth the wait: the bread was nicely chewy with the yogurt providing a pleasant zing. The rice was perfectly fluffed and faintly sweet owing to the cherries, while the fesenjan was bracingly tart with the chicken tender enough to cut with a spoon. Had dinner here over Labor Day weekend for the first time. Figured it wouldn't be too crowded but every table but one was taken when we Arrived around 7 pm and they had a steady flow of customers the rest of the night. There seemed to be only two individuals handling all the tables but our server was very patient and accommodating (we just had to be patient ourselves.) Since we both had never ate there before, he was very helpful explaining the menu and portion sizes. Right when you sit down, they bring out this complimentary purple yogurt dip with bread for the table. Very tasty. To start, we shared the eggplant dip which was very good. For our mains, I got the Bakhtiari kabob platter and upgraded for the albaloo polo rice (extra charge). The platter comes with a chicken and beef kabob - I decided on the hanger steak (over the filet) since the waiter said it had more flavor. The steak was delicious and cooked perfect. The chicken was also very flavorful. The rice was really good and had cherries in it. Loved everything. My friend got the shrimp kabob dish and added a chicken kabob a la carte. The shrimp didn't have much flavor and would not recommend since the meat was better. The shrimp platter comes with the baghali polo which was dill rice - we didn't care for it very much. Too much dill. My rice was better. Overall we had a very nice meal. The Restaurant is byo which is also a plus! I worry what will happen when the weather gets cold since the inside is super tiny and at 25% capacity, they can't fit many. BYOB, incredibly cute and cozy set up, plenty of outdoor tables, plants everywhere, friendly staff, incredible food. You're going to love it here. I've been a couple times now, always for dinner, and every single time I am blown away. My hot tip is to get the lamb because it is sooooo good but I really don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. They have everything from kabobs, salads, amazing dips and an entire section dedicated to stews. Their menu is my little piece of heaven. Their gheimeh stew is so perfect for cold weather but just know it's very citrusy (it has sun dried limes with the rind in it) so it might not be everyone's favorite. But is there ever anything better than a good stew? (no). Their lamb kabob is pretty mouthwatering. It's seasoned perfectly, grilled just right so it is butter soft and just a great dinner. I usually pair their kabobs with a salad but they also offer rice. For appetizers, get some dips! They put something on the table while you wait for your food that I love (like a beet yogurt maybe?) but I recommend their hummus as well. Next time I visit I want to make sure to try their eggplant dip as well. And some desserts! For some reason I never got dessert here. Perfect for date nights, family dinners, lunch or brunch with friends. Who doesn't love a great BYOB spot? Very much recommend. read more

The Koobideh looks and tastes like Kabab digi to me (a pan boiled and fried ground beef). It was not close to the Persian Koobideh that I have had in the 28 years of my life in Iran. I had soltani here last year in 2020, and thought there might have been a mistake, so I gave it another shot this year. However, it was the same! The beef and fat ratio seemed off both times. The "barg" was tender and delicious, but it was filet cubes (Kabab Chenjeh) not an unrolled one piece filet. The beef Gheymeh was delicious as expected :) read more

Unfortunately, the Lamb Shank-while nice to look at and definitely falling of the bone tender- I didn't find it flavorful at all, not the meat nor the broth it came in. We stopped by very accidentally at Seven Valleys a week ago and were very surprised. We ordered Medley for two and appetizer with eggplant. An appetizer was delicious, fresh and light. The plate for two had chicken kabob, beef kabob and two ground beef kabobs which came with rice and salad. Rice was insanely tasty and salad was super fresh! We had a cup of tea which just blew me away, there were some spices in it and I really enjoyed another cup with baklava for dessert. Baklava was fresh, not too sweet and very well balanced. Loved every bite of it! We came back the next day and I ordered vegetables kabob and it was delicious as well. Today I stopped by to get it to go. Just ask them most people don't know about it. My favorite dish is the chicken kabob plate. The rice is fantastic.
