What is wrong with the world in general? How about why is this establishment perpetuating extreme ignorance? I called to place an order for pick up. Before I knew what my total would be, before the restaurant knew what I wanted, before I even knew if I wanted to place an order because I wasn't sure if I'd have time to wait the question I was greeted with is "How am I paying, cash or credit?" What??? Seriously? That is the worst, most money hungry question on the planet. What? Are you concerned I'm not going to pay you? Well, no worries. I can actually answer that question. You are actually concerned with what price to charge me. I know this because after I placed my order and said I was paying credit, I was TOLD (not asked) I was going to pay 15% gratuity. Excuse me? First of all GRATUITY is what I pay to say THANK YOU (hence the term gratuity) for great SERVICE. If you answer the phone and push some buttons to put in my order then I have to drive to the establishment, get out of my car, walk inside, possibly wait behind someone else before I can even get my order, then WHERE IS THE SERVICE!!!!????? Aside from the fact that you have omitted part of the meal that I would have enjoyed if I had the time to come inside and sit (soup), you then want me to be THANKFUL?!?! (For getting less and paying more). Shameful. In addition, when I do come in and sit and enjoy my meal, 20% gratuity or better is what is left on the table. Why? Because someone came over to my table and took my order, checked on me, brought me food, drinks, napkins l, straws, a smile, etc. I can't even get a smile through the phone and this chick wants 15%? Disgraceful! AND... if management is forcing servers to take time away from their in restaurant patrons to place phoned in orders... you need to rethink your business model. How about you get up off of your behinds from counting all of your dollars and help the staff get these orders processed. What you need to keep in mind is 15% of zero is zero. Mixed review today. My omelette was done very well. Plenty of ingredients, served hot, presented well. Same for the French fries. My wife's pancakes were bland and unsatisfying. Four dollar upcharge for a few blueberries cooked into them was excessive. No blueberries, powdered sugar, whipped butter or anything to make a nice presentation. Coffee was hot and tasty. Server was pleasant and attentive. Greeter/hostess was distracted and slow to engage. Price/value was acceptable but not impressive. We'll give it another try--but not for pancakes. read more

Wow! Lamb special was not a bahhh idea! 4 beautifully arranged chops arrived cooked to perfection and tasted mmm mmm good! The rack of ribs was enough for 2! Holy Moley this was a feast. This is a classic, Old school, New Jersey diner. The menu is large and full of homemade homestyle favorites like meatloaf and pot roast as well as fresh fish and pasta. I previously wrote a glowing review of this restaurant about a year ago. Regrettably, it looks like they've slipped. Got a take-out turkey club sandwich (and it was costly) with hardly any bacon in it and the whole sandwich seemed sad, wilted, not fresh. The fries were not a generous portion either. Also ordered a quart of split pea soup. The soup was good, but the croutons were so brittle they could break teeth. Threw them away. Another thing...good luck trying to open the front door to this restaurant. It was secured so hard I first thought it was locked. Get ready to pull your insides out trying to open that blinking door. Then you have to do it all over again when you leave Not a good experience this time. read more

While searching for a location to hold a luncheon after a graveside service, the only place willing to work with me was Seven Star. Diane, the event coordinator was extremely helpful, friendly, and a pleasure to work with. Our waitress Chelsea was great and made sure our party of 25 was well cared for! Seven Star was always one of our go to stops on the way home from Philly when we were hungry, but after tonight we may not be visiting for a while. Let me say that I don't think I have ever given a two star review on this app in my life. I truly believe in giving everyone the benefit of the doubt. But I can't let this one go without mentioning it. We were a party of four. We started with drinks, two Arnold palmers, a Diet Coke, and an unsweetened tea. The two Arnold palmers were unsweetened tea, just lighter in color. We think maybe the lemonade was out of syrup. We decided to let it go because less sugar, right? No big deal. Maybe a sign from above to cut our intake. Our server took our order, and my husband asked to upgrade his fries to disco fries for an up charge and a side of blue cheese instead of ranch with his panini. I asked for a side of thousand island with my patty melt. The food came out relatively quickly. My patty melt was two pieces of rye bread with cheese melted, and a regular round burger on it, sitting there open faced. Again. No biggie. I put it together and cut it in half like a traditional patty melt is typically presented. I noticed my side of thousand island was missing and my husbands side of blue cheese wasn't there either. Neither were his disco fries. He decided to let the disco fries slide and we both asked for our dipping sauces. The server kindly said she'd go get them. AND SHE NEVER CAME BACK. My mom determined she was full while I was still slowly nibbling on my patty melt, waiting for my thousand island, so she went to the server prep station and found a different server who promptly gave her the sauces. Mine didn't taste like thousand island, but maybe they make it in house so that's why it had a different flavor. At this point our server came over, and goes "OH! I forgot..." and started walking away to get our sauces some 20 minutes later but we informed her we got it already. My friend said "but I'd love another Arnold Palmer..." She took his glass and then just didn't come back. Again. We sat there as people cleaned the restaurant around us preparing to close the section down and never saw another server. We noticed a stack of takeout containers on a nearby prep station and my husband went and grabbed them for us to pack up our leftovers. Our eventually came and didn't say a word about us having containers. She dropped the check and that was that. I typically tip 25% and never go lower than 20 on the worst day. I struggled with what to do. The bill was $77 and I decided to do a $12 tip. Lower than I typically would give but definitely not as low as the service warranted. My reasoning? Maybe she was having a terrible day. If that's the case I hope it gets better and it wasn't typical for her. As someone who was a waitress for 8 years in a diner-esque establishment, I know how hard it can be, but I also expect just a little better. We have eaten here for years. We go back as far as when it was 5 Points Diner. However, Seven Stars WAS always our favorite diner! Sorry to say that since Covid, we have watched Seven Stars steadily decline. They apparently have new management. Unfortunately, their new management has run them into the ground! They are using a new bakery, which is terrible. Plus, their food and service has definitely hit rock bottom. We were regular customers for years, but not anymore. We are done trying! read more

This classic Jersey diner lives up to the hype! The restaurant has large comfortable booths or tables if that's your preference. It was lunchtime and we were seated right away. Pat was our waitress and friendly. The hubby got the Chicken StirFry - which he loved. The chicken was so juicy and tender and the flavor was great. I decided on the Shrimp Salad on a wrap with lettuce and tomato. It was so tasty. It came with steak fries and a pickle - perfect. Pat was even able to tell my hubby how much chicken was in the stir fry, which impressed me. The Seven Star Diner was a winner!!! Give it a shot if you find yourself in South Jersey. read more

We went just for a little bite to eat while our daughter had cheerleading practice. If you've read my reviews before you know I'm a bug fan of a good Diner. I remember when this was 5 Points Diner, many years ago, currently they are called 7 Stars, in my opinion they haven't reached the level of the previous tenant, 5 Points but for what my wife and I got it wasn't at all bad but nothing special, but to be fair we didn't order anything special. I got a Ham and Cheese Omelet(American Cheese), Home fries, and white toast with butter. My wife got the Cream of Chicken Soup and a side salad with Frech dressing. I enjoyed my Omelet, it had a plentiful amount of Ham to Cheese ratio but it was a bit salty. The Home fries where good, a little dry so I had to add some ketchup and the toast had a nice amount of melted butter. My wife's side salad was a very average side salad. Her Cream of Chicken Soup was the star of the table! It was very very tasty nice amount of chunks of chicken throughout the entire bowl of soup. It was like Chicken Dumplings Flavorful just without the Dumplings. Yeah, we'll go back if we are nearby again, next time we'll try a dinner and dessert. read more

Had breakfast with a friend here last week, and came back today for breakfast with my husband because it was really good. First time I had an egg salad sandwich and my friend had bacon & eggs which were both very good. The price of my sandwich seemed a bit high, but it came with a cup of soup and I had a ton of steak fries on the plate that were fresh & hot. Server was very nice and efficient. Today I had the smoked salmon platter - a very generous portion of salmon, toasted bagel w/cream cheese, accompanied by capers, olives, lettuce, tomato, onion and cucumbers & green peppers. very delicious! Again our server was efficient and polite. This diner is always bustling, really huge, with lots of seating in different rooms. give it a try next time you're heading to the shore. read more

I hadn't been here since the name change (formerly FIVE POINTS DINER). We had a nice breakfast - blueberry pancakes (a bit small), eggs and a pork roll sandwich. All very good and fresh and delish. "MEH." This is your Mom-Mom and Pop-Pops diner. Old school, tables barely wiped, servers name is Flo or Jo, etc. Upon entering, I think it was the owners who were at the register, which is kind of where you stand to wait to be seated, and they could not have given less than a shit about your presence. I actually found it refreshing how little they cared that you had stopped in to eat at their establishment, and weren't trying to fake it. Beginning and end. She also didn't even bother with eye contact when I was paying on the way out. lol Anywho, we stopped by here by sheer proximity to where we were coming from. (Rastellis Kid Complex.) We go in and were sat immediately and got a few cups of terrible coffee to start. The table was JUUUUUUUST a little sticky, the menus old etc. But we trudged on. Wife got a breakfast sandwich that was described as "wet," and I got a Monte Cristo that is described as "not a Monte Cristo." A Monte Cristo is a SANDWICH, that has turkey, ham, (usually) Swiss cheese, and it is battered, fried, and topped with powdered sugar and served with some kind of fruit preserves. (Usually raspberry.) This was french toast, topped with ham, turkey, swiss....go fuck yourself. No batter, no sugar, no fruit. Not even in a sandwich form. I had to eat it like an open face sandwich, and put strawberry jelly on top to try and recreate the proper dish. Now, maybe this is my fault for assuming, as the way it's listed on the menu is how it came out, but DON'T CALL IT A MONTE CRISTO THEN! If you had "biscuits and gravy" on the menu, and you explained it as "biscuits served with sausage gravy," and what came out was a dry biscuit, served with a cup of brown turkey gravy and a Jimmy Dean Sausage sticking out of it, you'd be right to be upset, despite what that menu said. I don't even remember our server, how inconspicuous she was. Friggin' toast for my daughter was $2. Wrapping up, we paid, we left, we most likely won't be back. A nice big breakfast, cooked to order was perfect except the hash browns were very, very dry and the waitress could care less snipping back "that's how they make them" without even checking. This is one of our go-to diner-restaurants. Took my grandson a few days ago. We went at noon. He ordered a burger with fries and liked it very much. I ordered a chicken cordon bleu panini and I wasn't so impressed. It's not what I consider a panini when eating out or making my own. I make it with thick slices of bread in a panini press. This was breaded chicken fingers on naan bread with two slices of ham and Swiss cheese. The 'sandwich' seemed to be pressed on a flat grill not on a grated grill. I ate half and took the other half home for dinner where I removed the naan bread and ate the chicken fingers and ham. I wouldn't order that again because, to me, it wasn't a panini. The fries and cold slaw and raspberry iced tea were great. Service was fine. The prices are good. I didn't order them this time but I don't recommend the chicken croquettes if you're a fan of them. Not what I consider a 'typical' chicken croquette in shape or taste. We've never had a bad breakfast here either. Based on this lunch, I'd have given 3 stars but we usually enjoy our choices much better, so that's why I gave a 4*. read more

We sat at a booth in the bar area, perfect for a lunch date with my husband (sports on every tv). I come here with my family every other year or so, and it's always been consistently tasty and fairly quick service. Seven Star has diner food and slightly nicer diner food, which is perfect for whichever mood you're in. Portions are massive, so it's easy to always have a second meal to bring home. I only wish that there were more vegan options available- there are a few dishes that can easily be made vegan if you take off an item or two, but it'd be cool to see them clearly marked so it's less of a mental challenge to order. Hubby and his friends planned brunch and this would have honestly never been on my list, a diner is a diner. I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious my meal was. I ordered a chicken waldorf pita sandwich. The chicken salad was amazing, it had fresh apples, walnuts & white raisins. It came with a fries so I subbed mine for a baked potato. Their fries are steak fries and I probably would have enjoyed them but I have been trying to cut my fries addiction. It also came with a cup of soup * eat in only.
