This place was hard to find at first. The address is wrong, which another Yelper pointed out, but I didn't see that review until after I walked around for a while. It is at the very end of the St. Vincent Court. The downside is that as you pass a restaurant, someone asks you to come on in. So you have to say no to 3-4 ladies before getting to Sevan. Plus, the area looks like a scene out of crime movie where older Armenian and Russian dudes are sitting outside smoking, working out who will control what areas of town. Everyone sort of stares at you as you walk by. Me and three co-workers ate here for lunch. We each got something different. I had the Lule kabobs, someone else had a gyro sandwich, one guy had a gyro plate and I don't remember what dude number four had. But the consensus was clear - the food was very good. One other thing I would change would be to have someone outside waiting for customers. We walked in and couldn't find an employee at first. And it is a deceptively large place. I didn't see a hostess stand, cash register, or employee after walking to the rear of the restaurant. Eventually a waitress saw us and showed us to a seat. Once you find this place, it is awesome! hidden in a totally cool "alley" with other restaurants. A nice hidden oasis of food! Loved the food!! I'm going to work my way through all the Mediterranean food restaurants in downtown...this was the second one over the last 2 weeks. Got a seat outside and ordered the lamb chops. I really liked the warm pitas, hummus, and salad that came with our meals but I was disappointed with my lamb chops ($19.99). It was 3 small chops that didn't really taste that good. Quite a bit of fat on the chops so maybe they needed a little bit more charring? I did love the wheat rice though, quite delicious mixed with the onion strips. My coworker had the combo platter, which he said came with 4 different types of skewers. That looked pretty good and was a better deal I think ($16.99). Boss had the chicken kabob that he said was a little dry. Service was good. Can't rate higher right now based on what I had so far. read more

If you are downtown during the day and walking around wondering where you can stop, cool down, rest, eat and zen out in crazy downtown LA, this is the place. This place is hard to find (even with google maps), probably why it feels so peaceful. Essentially this place sits in an ally between Spring and Main, and the entrance to the alley is on the north side of 7th st. Sevan's sit at the end of the ally and with the neighboring parking lot it crates a nice wind tunnel effect results in a nice welcoming breeze on a hot day if you choose to sit outside under their umbrellas. They serve your typical Mediterranean/Greek menu. I always get their gyro plate, which comes with a huge plate of gyro meet, rice, salad and all the pita you want to eat. The gyro meat is very delicious, well seasoned, and juicy (unlike most gyro stands). Their rice is cooked to perfection, well seasoned, and complements everything well or awesome by itself. The salad (greens, not crappy ice berg salad) deliciously tossed with a light balsamic vinaigrette sauce, it is cooled and very refreshing (especially on a hot day). The pita bread does taste like it is fresh, but not bad and there is plenty of it. Hummus is hummus (nothing special there). Do ask for the their special yogurt dipping sauce, it is really delicious. All in all for the price and the amount/quality/taste this is an awesome deal! Their lamb was not bad. Fish was delicious good but I am not a big fan of grilled fish... jut no special flavor there. Gyro plate is the way to go. We have been to Sevan's a few times now and every time we leave, we leave super satisfied. read more

Such a disappointment that the city banned outdoor seating on this block. I hope the next mayor not only remedies this, but goes the other way and bans cars from traveling down this alley, or at least limits it. The ravioli surrounding the meat was crispy and tasty. The "meatballs" inside were super flavorful. Not sure how to balance the red tomato-ish sauce and the garlic yogurt sauce. The sauce was a touch sweet for me, but the yogurt allowed me to counter that. The experience was pretty good. We came here for lunch today after passing through yesterday. The dorna was excellent - much better than the chicken. In hindsight, I should've just gotten the dorna but being the multi-tasker, multi-taster that I am, I wanted to try more than one option. The lunch plate came with bulgar rice, hummus, salad, and pita. The hummus was ok - I've definitely had better. It lacked garlic, which made it very bland. The salad was light and tasted like it only had lemon juice squeezed on it. It also lacked flavor. I was hoping for some kind of light vinaigrette, but nope. The rice was very tasty. They pack a good amount of flavor into it, which was nice. I asked for garlic sauce and they gave me yogurt that tasted like tzatsiki. It was ok - needed salt. Yes, I know my Mediterranean food ;) Overall, our experience was a solid 3 stars. I would've given them 4 but I had to subtract a star because even though it's illegal, they allowed this old guy to chain smoke while eating outside. I cannot stand cigarette smoke and this guy wasn't stopping anytime soon. That really pissed me off. But, they allowed it. Did not try to stop him - me thinks he's either an owner, related to the owner, or part of the mafia with ties to the owner. Can you say shady? Would I return? For the dorna, YES! My husband and I went to the jewelry district this Saturday and decided to give Sevan a try. The location happened to be very close to our jewelers place in a cute alley like scene with several other restaurants. Sevan is the restaurant at the very end of the alley. Everyone was very attentive and before our meal came they brought out a fresh salad and pita bread with humus for us to share. I ordered the Shish Kebab plate (Pieces of tender filet mignon, marinated in our al sauce and BBQ to perfection). My plate came with a choice of fries, rice or bulgur and a salad (I like that they had the healthier option of bulgur as a side). My husband ordered Iskender (Thinly sliced pide bread topped with our famous doner kebab (gyros) served with tomato sauce and plain yogurt in a special dish). Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. We will DEFINATELY eat here again next time we are in Los Angeles. read more

The Gyro is top notch, as is the hummus. By far the BEST Turkish food restaurant i have ever been to. Their food is amazing. No joke, I was introduced to their food at a night market they participated in Arcadia called the 626 Night Market (www.626nightmarket.com) wow. Their dish was so good (actually in my opinion, the best) from like 60-70 different other great vendors, that i decided to make the trip and visit their restaurant all the way to downtown LA. It was a bit tricky to find it, since my GPS made me go around the block once, but def. worth the drive. Customer service is great and funny to make you feel welcomed. They have a new dish like pizza that was delicious. The main reason i went was for their Iskender which has tiny breads covered with doner Kebab, their amazing tomato sauce, and plain yogurt. But I thought that the servings were chinzy (c'mon with the tiny little bowl of hummos), the salad was melancholy-inducing, and the overall presentation was ugly and uninspired. A small side of stewed green beans for four dollars was oily, mushy, and barely warm. And I was a little surprised by the price given the really downscale nature. St Germaine court is nice little shady nook of restaurants all seeming to carry general Persian fair. We walked till we landed on this little place. The food was very fresh and very good. The sishkabab was kooked to just the right amount of tenderness and redness, the salad was tangy and refreshing. Perfect humus to boot. If only the kitchen hadn't taken forever to serve us and not get my friends order wrong, completely forgetting the chicken. There's a lot to like about Sevan Garden. They're generous with the hummus and pita bread, you get a nice Shiraz salad with your lunch plate, and the portions are generous. I had the doner kebab plate, very similar to Greek gyro. It was very satisfying. The kofte kebabs are also a good choice. Service is attentive and efficient. If it weren't for the chain smoking patrons who occupy the outdoor dining area in large numbers, I'd likely give this place five stars.
