    fried shrimp and fish plate
    Micole H.

I stopped by here with my partner after seeing this place on social media. It seems to be an older establishment and I like trying older establishments in Los Angeles but this was just not worth it to me. First the line was extremely long, I'm talking standing, no benches nothing to rest upon and my poor BF was standing in that line for over 45 minutes. He graciously allowed me to stay seated at one of the benches because I wouldn't have been able to stand that long. When we got there the line was ate the gate opening we were about three people behind outside the gate, by the time we left (pic included) the line was wrapped around the building. Which reminds me I dont know how they were going to get to all those people by closing. They close very early at 2:30pm and 3:30 on weekends. That was the line at 130. Now he having experienced more of it up close told me that it was primarily due to customers not the people who worked there themselves. He told me people were indecisive about what they wanted and were placing orders for 9 and 10 plates. However I find that as no excuse if you know your customers are mainly like this then you should make accommodations to be more efficient. I just find no reason that's the only way to get this food is to call in or stand in a 45-minute line in 2026. And then by the time he ordered it was still another 10-minute wait to get the actual food, overall making it a little over an hour from time of arrival in line to actually putting a piece of food in my mouth. We finally got the food and honestly it was just okay. The batter didn't have that much seasoning, it was bland. It wasn't fried as crispy as we normally like our fish. The rice was just plain, I didn't try the fries, he said they were ok. Even the sauces were just meh especially what was suppose to be cajun (which i didnt ask for btw, I wanted garlic butter sauce and for some reason they gave me one of each) The tastiest thing on the menu was the Char-Broil giant shrimp, now that is something worth going to this place for but not worth standing in that line for. We will not be back

This is a classic. Had not been here in decades and it hasn't changed. We shared a variety of items to get the full experience. We started with all of the chowders (Fisherman's Red Chowder, New England White Chowder, and Lobster Bisque) and shared the fried fish and scallops combo and charbroiled giant shrimp and scallop combo and an order of garlic bread. There was a line to order but it moved quickly and the wait for the food was reasonable. The most impressive part was the guy took our food order including extra sauces, cups, plates, etc. without writing anything down! We enjoyed everything. The batter on the the fish and scallops was crispy but light. The cocktail sauce had the perfect tinge of horseradish. There was a nice char on the shrimp and scallops. And the soups all had chunks of seafood and/or fish. The place gets a good crowd of families, couples and groups. It was like we all had the heads-up on a "secret" spot in a mostly industrial section near skid row. Also gets a thumbs up for the ample parking lot.

Giant shrimp and scallops! So yummy!

The food is great. Giant shrimp and scallops are to die for and more affordable here than other places. A staple of downtown LA and a source of pride for us all! The guys working there are great and the fish market has great fish! Yay

3.5 stars is my official rating, but I liked this spot enough to round up instead of down. The lines are long, think Philippe's, but it moves pretty fast. Seems like there is a local cult following too, similar to Philippe's. We waited about 25-30 mins total, including the wait to order and then waiting for our food. Reasonable if it's your day off, I wouldn't spend lunch break here though if it's crowded. Cafeteria style seating, you find your spot at big tables and every once in a while a bus boy comes and wipes them down. The location isn't very nice and if you walk coming from DTLA, you have to walk through some of the worst streets Los Angeles has to offer. I did not factor this into the review score at all, for your info though, on the walk over I saw a dude standing in front of a small fire, shirtless, covered in gang tattoos, waving a machete. I'm a local and I know how to move in this city, my friend who I was with was really shaken up, I suggest you take an Uber if approaching this spot from DTLA (or carry a weapon), especially if you're traveling with women or out of towners. Sad reality of some parts of downtown Los Angeles. Most importantly, the food - everything is fresh fried and made to order, as it should be. I opted for the fish sandwich, which is served on a garlic roll with tomatoes, onions, and lettuce. Fries included in the $24 order. The roll was disappointing, I wish it was fresh baked bread for that price. My friend got the sampler basket, which includes a crabcake, fried shrimp, and a piece of catfish, which is $26. Both of us enjoyed our food, and left full, seafood lunch for 2 for $50+tax is not unreasonable at all. Nothing stood out as exceptional, but it was also good, hot and solid. This is a good spot if you're in the area craving seafood, but I probably won't make a special journey to Downtown again for Fisherman's Outlet. I wish this spot was on the West side closer to me, then they would have my business more often.

If it's open, do yourself a favor and stop in! The fish here is great! The badder they use is so light and flakey! There's a whole parking lot with plenty of parking behind it and plenty of outside seats under shade. The staff are friendly and the best part, they take card payments!

If you're a seafood lover and find yourself in LA, this spot is an absolute must! It's a casual, no-frills gem where you can enjoy mouthwatering seafood on outdoor picnic tables. Sure, the area across the street has a few challenges with homelessness, but it's nothing that's ever made us feel unsafe--just be mindful and lock your car. Now, the FOOD. Incredible doesn't even cover it. Every time we're in town, I make it a priority to stop here. This time, I was so excited to dive in, I didn't even think to snap photos! We ordered the fried shrimp (so crispy!), grilled scallops, grilled shrimp, and grilled fish, and everything was cooked to perfection. Their tartar and garlic sauces? Out of this world--don't skip them! It's laid-back, delicious, and the kind of place that makes you want to come back for more. Highly recommend this hidden treasure!

The Fisherman's Outlet is an LA staple. The price has gone up over the years but the quality and quantity of food hasn't wavered. It's just as delicious as it was a couple of decades ago. My favorite catfish and chips and New England clam chowder in LA.

Good fresh seafood but pricey. Clean location and plenty of parking at the back, good service, but short hours. I got the special - shrimp lover plate - and it was really delish. Grilled skewer shrimp was big and tasty. Very flavorful. Fried shrimp was addicting. Overall, good llace to visit.

One of the best Fried/Grilled Seafood i've been to! The Clam Chowder was warm and full of flavor. The staff are kind and helpful when ordering. Spacious parking but make sure you go early bc the line can wrap around the place! Overall had a great experience with the outdoor seating, they also have security since it's in a specific LA area. 10/10 Recommend!

Stopped by for lunch since I had an event in Little Tokyo to go to. Area is a little sketchy, being in the heart of skid row and a couple of homeless encampments around. Service is a little slow, but it was also pretty busy. I got the charbroiled sampler with skewered shrimp, salmon, and giant shrimp over rice with garlic butter. They also included some cajun sauce. The char on everything was nice and added bit of texture and flavor. The skewered shrimp wasn't bad, but the highlights were the salmon and the giant shrimp. The salmon was flavorful and just a bit firm, while the shrimp was plump and a bit juicy. Overall I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but it's not a bad option if you're in the area.

Food potion is good, got three large fish pieces and about 8 medium sized shrimps for the Fish and Shrimp Combo. Breading is nice an crispy, fries are average. Lobster Bisque is nice, smooth and not too salty. Large outside and covered seating area, and plenty and parking. Staffs are pretty efficient in taking orders and bringing out food

What I Ordered: -Fisherman's Combos: 1. Fish and Shrimp Combo with French Fries and Coleslaw $21.45 -New England White Clam Chowder (Large) $9.25 Serving Fresh Seafood in LA since 1961. They have over a dozen different kinds of fresh fish items on the menu. They are known for the Fried Fish and Shrimp Combo with French Fries and Coleslaw, Charbroiled Giant Shrimp with Garlic Butter Sauce, Chowders: New England Clam Chowder (White), Fisherman's Seafood Chowder (Red), Lobster Bisque. I opted to get the Fried Fish and Shrimp Combo with French Fries and Coleslaw. It came with two pre-sealed sauces which included Cocktail Sauce and Tartar Sauce. It was okay. I like fried fish, but the batter is too heavy. It took away from the natural flavor of the fish and the shrimp. I wouldn't recommend the Fried Fish and Shrimp Combo. I wasn't a fan of the fries. I noticed many people ordered the rice instead of the French Fries. That seemed like a healthier option and the pro move. The coleslaw was pretty good. I liked it! I think I made a rookie mistake here and ordered the fried option instead of the charbroiled option. I really didn't enjoy the Fried Fish and Shrimp Combo as much as I thought I would have. I wasn't a fan of the breading of fried fish and shrimp. Despite the price, you get a healthy portion size of seafood. The highlight of meal was the New England Clam Chowder (White). It came with oyster crackers and packets of tabasco sauce. I would have liked some packets of pepper to go with the soup. As a native New Englander, I'm a huge fan clam chowder. This particular version of Clam Chowder came out piping hot and it was creamy and loaded with fresh clams. The price tag can seem like much consider the size of the large soup, but when you factor in the vast amount of clams. You know you are getting a high quality product. I highly recommend the New England Clam Chowder (White). Next time, I come I want to try the Charbroiled Shrimp with Garlic Butter and the Lobster Bisque. You place your order at the counter. The staff were very helpful in recommendations for us indecisive folks. The restaurant is not in a good area. Very close to skid row! Very sad to see so many folks living like that all around. You may see some of them loitering around the restaurant. However, I never felt unsafe as they have a security guard present. There's plenty of parking in their parking lot. I'm looking forward to coming back here with my family.

I love this place. I have been going here for years and they never disappoint. The food is always made fresh to order and very hot. The service is phenomenal. They are always nice and helpful. The place is cool and old school vibes. The place is very clean and taken care of.

I know there's parking in the front but it's limited since it's only street parking but if you drive into the small alleyway into the back, you will be able to find a few more parking spots there. Everyone was super nice. One of the employee employees from the back explained why they didn't have Dungeness crab and he was super sweet about it. And then the cashier in the front was very helpful with the recommendations. Instead, I got 2 pounds of crawfish in one of their sauces. Dude, they're crawfish are so fresh and fat. I appreciated that I was able to pick my own. Everything turned out amazing. I will definitely be back.

There's limited parking in the back of the building and only big enough for smaller compact cars. They have several buckets of fish sitting on ice chips, lining the middle of the store. A couple live tanks against the wall. Decent variety. When I was choosing my fish from their ice buckets, I thought they looked a little extra slimy but against my better judgment just gave it a shot anyway. Took my catfish to the kitchen to request it be fried. Within a couple hours of eating, I got the worst food poisoning I've had in a very long time. This was such a disappointing experience and now I'm sick as a dog. If I could leave 0 stars, I would.

I went for my favorite sashimi,…read morewhich is abalone and geoduck but they have a lot of other live options like fish, crab and lobster to prepare at home. Even frogs! Didn't realize this, but they will prepare the items for you like take the abalone out of the shell and clean the geoduck for you so all I had to do was slice and eat. Saw them doing the same for some fish, which was cool. Be sure to tip them if they do prep for you. Prices seemed reasonable to high, but considering my favorites are difficult to find, price was really no object. I wish I didn't have such expensive taste or I'd be back weekly :). Language is a bit of a barrier but can get by with pointing and basic English. Pro tip: ample parking in back or street parking right up front.
