There's a lot to like about Sevan Garden. They're generous with the hummus and pita bread, you get a nice Shiraz salad with your lunch plate, and the portions are generous. I had the doner kebab plate, very similar to Greek gyro. It was very satisfying. The kofte kebabs are also a good choice. Service is attentive and efficient. If it weren't for the chain smoking patrons who occupy the outdoor dining area in large numbers, I'd likely give this place five stars. NOTE: park in lots 1/2 - 1 block away... i parked in a $6 lot round the back of 610 S. broadway. walked through to the front. crossed the street to 621 where there are tourist stores. walked through tourist store and a cafe (TWO STORES) to get to sevan. you will not see any signs for sevan. this is truly hidden. (the parking lot at the back of sevan is $18). sounds harder than it actually is - once you know - you know. and it's definitely worth it. i miss the doner kebabs in london - and this will be my go to place for my fix from now on. staff are fab. large outdoor/eating/smoking patio too. Over all it's good. Humus and pita bread were tasty. The lula kebab was overly salty and almost charred my tongue. it also did not have enough spices and is on the bland side. the meat was not of the best tasting quality. I had food from this place several times at night market festivals, and strangely enough the the food out the tent tasted better than the one at the restaurant, the kebab meat didn't have that extra crunchy texture. Also, you might want to avoid the rack of lamb, my girlfriend had and it was so bland and dry that she had to dip it in my iskender sauce to get some flavor. If she was rating this place she would give 2 stars, but I loved my plate so I give 4 read more

By far, the BEST Mediterranean food I have had. I had previously gone to Tulip Cafe but they are always closed or never serving. I've eaten here twice and both times the food was delicious. Each time I had the Lule Kebab plate(Adana) $9.99 which included hummus, salad, pita bread, your choice of rice, bulgar or fries and 2 long lule kebabas. They also serve them as sandwiches for $6.99. They have a vegan menu as well as seafood. You can sit inside or in the patio. the food is definitely made fresh with quality products, it's like eating in Mom's kitchen. This is the best Middle Eastern food I have found here. As other Yelpers recommended, I tried the combination plate so that I could get a sample of everything. It was all fantastic. Unfortunately, I can't decide which is best, so I'll probably get the same next time. I'm not a huge fan of Hummus, but this was really good (I cleaned my dish). The only weak part of the meal was the salad, but I guess I had to eat that in order to make the meal healthy. My walk back to the office helped in that regard too. I am repeating my review from there except a sentence that becomes irrelevant.] When I saw a flyer for this restaurant maybe a year ago, it did not impress me very much. It sounded more like a food stand than a restaurant. However, I kept an eye on it on the Internet. Some of the good reviews gave me the intent to try it out. First of all, this is a real, sit-down restaurant with both an indoor and an outdoor seating area. Both areas can accommodate quite a few customers. The outdoor area is in an alley with no traffic, where there are other restaurants. It is actually quite pleasant with some plants and nice furniture. It is located in the Jewelry District, and they may be receiving customers who are merchants in the district. The people who work there speak Turkish and so do many of the customers. The menu would not look out of place in a restaurant in Turkey, many of the dishes have Turkish names. The best thing about this restaurant is how the food tastes. The lentil soup, the shepherd's salad, beef and chicken shish, doner and koftes as well as the bulgur in the combination plate I had were some of the best I have had in many years. A restaurant with food tasting this great is hard to come by, even in Turkey. The soup was to die for, the meats were very tender and juicy, and even the bulgur was very tasty. I wish I could make shepherd's salad this good. I will certainly be back. It is worth a special trip. After reading another review, I realized that the owner grew up in Turkey and was a popular figure among the fans of a famous soccer team. There are quite a few entries on the Internet about him, even videos on You Tube, etc. That explains all the references to soccer I overheard during my lunch, some in colorful language among the customers. Wonderful service, great food. We were shopping in the area over the weekend and went to a place and ordered, then saw they did not accept credit cards so we continued back through the alley and luckily came across Sevan Garden. We ate here before so we found a table outside and were greeted by a very nice gentleman (said he was the owner and a girl named Elea). The hummus was yummy, we shared a gyros plate with warm pita, nice salad and delicious bulgur wheat rice. We will definitely be back when we are in the area again. First I saw a small photo of St. Vincent Court in Los Angeles Magazine and wondered where was that alley. I asked my friend who works downtown and she laughed saying that that's the alley where her favorite lunch place is located - Sevan Garden. She always buys their lentil soup and brings it to friends' parties, and it is always a big hit. Sure enough, on my very next visit to downtown I asked her to take me there. I loved walking through that alley (Sevan Garden is at the very end), even though the middle-eastern-looking men lounging outside with their cigars kept making comments about us (but it was all complimentary and harmless). I felt like I was back in Armenia! Unfortunately for a vegetarian like me there was not that much on the menu I could choose, so naturally I went for the veggie combo (plus, the lentil soup, of course), but even though I am not a big fan of hummus or tabboule (there were no other options for the combo), I was not disappointed, because everything was bursting with lemony flavors and was very fresh, which made all the difference. It was so nice to have a simple fresh meal under an umbrella on a sunny day. Even though barely anyone around communicated in English, it was a very LA experience.
