It's good to be back! It's been awhile but still love the bar service and the variety of tacos. (...wish the tacos were bigger for the same price - about 3 bites) Good beer selections and love the margaritas too. My favorite is their chips and guac with side of mild salsa. I could eat that alone for a meal. Bartender makes me a drink that's no longer on the menu and it makes me feel like home. Parking can be tough depending on the time of day. Try it!
The OG Brisket Birria taco was soooooooo good. I love a spicy margarita, their set my soul on fire. My daughter enjoyed her kids taco and side of fries. Service was fast. It wasn't very busy on a Sunday evening. My daughter talked about all the art on the walls and was very entertained.
This review is actually for Session Taco at Busch stadium. Best vegan option in the park. I get the vegan soft tacos which are delicious. Usually no wait after you order . Food is prepared, but hot and fresh. Friendly service. A little pricey but what isn't at the ballpark!
I am visiting family in St. Louis and we decided to go into Mission Taco (now Session Taco) because we had a coupon! She had been there before, but I have not. It's street parking and it can be a bit hard to find if it's crowded. There was a sign when we walked in to seat ourselves. Although it wasn't packed the restaurant was still really loud. Our server came over but it took us quite awhile to get waters. We decided to start with the dip trio- which is the salsa, queso and guacamole. They do charge for chips and salsa here, which is kind of a bummer. The guac was fairly standard- good but nothing special. The salsa was decent- it was pretty spicy. The queso was just okay- it reminded me of Velveeta cheese. It was not really warm when it came out so it became pretty solid and hard to dip in. For the entrees I got 3 tacos (regular ground beef, the lobster and the carnitas). I picked these options as it looked like on the menu they weren't spicy. I should have asked the server because they were spicy aside for the lobster one. The lobster and carnitas were my favorite- although the carnitas was too hot for me. I really disliked the regular ground beef one it had a strong smoky spicy flavor. I also got the street corn, which was just okay. The person I went with got the shredded beef bowl. It was also just okay. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here. If I did I would ask questions and be more specific with the things I would or wouldn't get. Overall experience 2/5.
After an evening full of libations and dancing the night away (Jammin at the zoo), our group decided to get some much needed fuel at Mission Taco. Despite us being a group of 10 and arriving around 9:45, they were able to get us seated. After immediately being sat, the server came and gave us water. Shortly after, he came and took our drink and food order. Since I rarely ever eat after 7, i asked if I could get something off the kids menu (small and light), and he let me! I got the kids chicken burrito, which comes with chicken and cheese. Rather than get the rice on the side, he let me put it in the burrito, and I chose the fries for my side. The burrito was the perfect size, and if allowed, I'd totally order again. The chicken didn't have much seasoning, but the rice and cheese made up for it. As for the fries, mine were the only ones that weren't seasoned. While that was a bummer, at least they were well done! Our server did a great job keeping our large party hydrated, as well as providing amazing service. If I'm in the area, I'll def. be back,
Great tasting food and drinks even with the rebranding. The service was great and waiter was attentive and had great recs. It was during the day so it was nice setup with the garage door up. Still a fan of their work. Keep it up!!
The signature tacos are great. The guacamole is very flavorful. The atmosphere is great. Draft beer has a limited selection, lacking many domestics. My main complaint is the service is way too fast. Don't order your food too quickly if you're relaxing, or it will be out very fast.
This was our pick for tacos during our trip to St Louis while staying in Soulard. It proved to be one of our most disappointing meals. The service was fast, friendly and attentive and the vibe of the restaurant decor was bright and fun, so the 3 stars is based on the food only. The salsas, mild and hot, were both hot. They aren't complimentary and we let a lot of it go to waste. While not listed on the menu we ordered basic cheese queso and it was good - thick and flavorful. We ordered a burrito and variety of tacos, plus an order of beef empanadas. The empanadas were decent. I was thankful the beef wasn't overly seasoned. The outside was buttery and flaky, more like a biscuit than the crispy texture I'm used to for empanadas. The tacos were overwhelmed by their toppings, causing the protein to be missed. Or in my case, the meat was so seasoned, almost a burnt taste, that I only ate the toppings and skipped the rest. Overall, not the experience we'd hoped for and I'd recommend seeking an alternative spot.
Stumbled upon Mission in Soulard after stopping in St. Louis for lunch. The neighborhood itself is super cute, historic, and the farmers market was neat to explore and walk through. The bartenders were super friendly, and started lunch with chips and some of the best queso and a margarita. Food arrived quickly, and was fantastic! Will definitely be stopping back by! Loved it
Before leaving St. Louis had to make a stop to eat! And Mission Taco Joint stuck out! A Very historic place! Old antiques aligned the entire restaurant. We ordered a couple steak tacos and beef Taco for the kid! Good food. Good staff! Can't really go wrong with tacos. (2021)
My favorite margarita in the city outside my house. Love the burritos but the vegetarian one could use some flavor. Thanks to the bartender for suggesting me get the ancho-chili sauce because without it, my burrito would have been blandito. I love the chips and salsa but they should be bottomless for $4 I also love their french fries here, they are perfect. Honestly just get a side of them to go with whatever you order, they are a constant deliciousness you need in your life. And order another margarita too, you won't be disappointed! read more
I can't believe I haven't written a review here yet! I've been a few times but decided to come one day this past week for lunch when it was $2 taco Tuesday! The Carne Asada fries are amazing!! Couldn't get enough. I also got the BLT taco (which was my favorite) as well as the hot fried chicken taco and the grilled chicken taco. Hot fried chicken was pretty good too. I love the atmosphere and vibe here as well. It's great during warm weather when they open up the large garage-like doors! Fits perfectly with the rest of Soulard! read more

Tried the mango habanero and Baja tacos which were both delicious! The street corn was off the cob which made it easier to eat, also pretty good. However, the chips and salsa are easily a hit! The house made salsas tasted fantastic and are fairly spicy. It was refreshing not getting the usual canned tomato stuff they have at other places! Tried a mission margarita which tasted very refreshing and not loaded with sugar. Our group of eight was able to be seated very quickly despite it being a Friday night. Apparently they have a $2 taco/ $2 tequila shot happy hour after 10 pm which I look forward to next time! Overall, a great west coast style taco place. read more

The tacos here were tasty (west coast style tacos), but some seemed a bit underfilled considering the price. I had the grilled chicken, fried Baja fish, and carne asada tacos. All three had excellent combinations of flavors, but the Baja fish taco suffered a bit from a lack of fish and the carne asada taco was better balanced, but a bit light on filling overall. The grilled chicken taco was much better, managing to fill the taco while maintaining an appropriate balance of toppings. While I'm rating it a 3/5, the flavors of the tacos would actually put it closer to a 4/5. I just felt that they brought California prices to go with the California flavors, which didn't seem entirely justifiable. If you want authentic west coast tacos in STL, this is a good spot to visit - just be aware that you may want to add a taco or two to your typical order. read more

Always great food and great service when I visit Mission Taco. The mango habanero shrimp tacos are my favorite. The perfect combination of sweet and spicy. This was my first time visiting the location in Lafayette Park. It was a nice day out and they had the garage door opened. Really cool atmosphere! My girlfriend and I will be back! read more

Always good food seriously favorite and only place for tacos, however, when ordering online they do not offer the a la carte option with the tacos they only offer twins or trios of all the same taco. Kind of blows when I don't have time to eat there so I just have to compromise but you wouldn't think it would be that hard to allow customers to order each taco separately. You do so inside anyways so what's the difference? Also we ordered the queso con chorizo down below which we get every time we're there. This particular time was unexpected. This is the Queso Con Chorizo ordered online but received more grease than actual chorizo. This was pretty disappointing, but it was the first it's happened. read more

A+ for service, taste, and creativity. We walked by thinking they were busy by the looks of the line outside but for dining in we were able to walk right in. Social distance was good and the mask enforcement was good. I got the burrito and Jenn got the street tacos and we were both pleasantly surprised. They even brought a good variety of hot sauce to test out. I'd go again! They have a good margarita and michelada, too! read more

We got delivery with DoorDash and the food came quick! I hate how food looses its heat(temp) during the transit but it all still tasted amazing! The Mango shrimp taco is always a go-to! The fritters were also so delicious and crispy! The only thing I wish they had on the Togo menu is beverages. My partner got the steak and said she was not as impressed as she was with mine. We love Mission and hope to eat in eventually. read more
Great atmosphere. You g hip crowd with amazing food. Ordered the asada fries and $2 tequila shots. What's not to love about that. And tacos too. Service is great too. Recommend this to anyone wanting good Mexican. You won't be disappointed Edit***ok tacos. Nothing authentic at all. Good, but not great. Definitely not authentic whatsoever. We stopped in on Saturday night and had a really kick ass experience! See, we were in a hurry and needed a in and out type of situation. Thankfully, we were sat in Kayla's section, who one, was extremely attentive, but two, was just down to make it happen for us. Julia R and I were on Yelp Waitlist and were sat promptly when we arrived. We got our usual: A south beach burrito each, 2 Mexicali bulldogs and lately, my addition of the Ricki Ricardo- their seasonal cuban taco. Burritos were delicious and plump! A hearty dollop of fresh guac on top always makes me happy. The Mexicali bulldog is where it's at. It's one of their beertales. It has more booze than a margarita, but is two dollars less! TLDR; great tacos, good sides, fun ambiance! Stopped in here while traveling across the country to get dinner with a friend--LOVED it. Beautiful restaurant with really fun decorations in a lovely historic area. The inside is vibrant and we were seated very promptly. We were there too early to get any of the late-night specials, but they seemed like a good deal & I would definitely check them out if I was regularly in St. Louis! I got the Portobello taco and a side of Street Corn Off the Cob, and was very happy with it! The tortillas (home made corn tortillas, one of my absolute favorites/weaknesses) were absolutely wonderful, a great size & lovely corn flavor. Smoked mushroom had a great meaty bite to it, the crisp onions added a fun texture, and the aioli had a delightful spicy element. The street corn was also yummy, although I wish it had some cilantro on it (but I always wish there was more cilantro, so no hard feelings). If you're looking for a yummy bite in a cool building in a historic part of town, check this place out! read more

Went here on St. Patrick's Day because my friends wanted McGurk's corned beef and cabbage but didn't want to wait in line outside until next St. Patrick's Day... The restaurant is of a decent size, which is good because it's so popular. I feel like I hear about Mission Taco at least once a week. It's practically at Soulard Market. Regarding my meal... Chofu taco= tofu chorizo taco. Unfortunately, it's not delicious like the similar taco offered at Pieces board game bar. But it's fine and a good vegetarian option. I hear the empanadas are a good option for vegetarians. The street corn is VERY good. Best I've ever had. Though I've only ever had it from two other places. I tasted my friend's margarita and mmm yum. I hope to go again soon and try another taco. read more

For my Louisville Yelpers out there, this place is a better Citizen 7. I wish this place was spread out across the Louisville area. Mission appears to be a state chain with locations in St. Louis and Kansas City so maybe they'll come our way eventually. The only thing that seemed off to me was the decor. The mix of wood and brick just didn't seem like the right atmosphere for this place. After a long drive to St. Louis followed by a few hours of climbing around City Museum, we needed a place to eat fast. After finding this taco place, we weren't disappointed at all. It hit the spot and impressed. We arrived here around 10:30 PM. They stay open late which is nice. It just so happens that they have two dollar tacos and tequila shots after 10 PM. There were a lot of people there, but they didn't seem to understand how awesome that is! Most people were drinking at that hour. For a place with three and four dollar tacos to have a late night happy hour making those tacos two dollars is just unheard of. So two dollar tacos! YESSSS! I could end that review here with that information and that you should go but I'll elaborate. On the surface, this place is a fancy taco place where tacos cost you three or four dollars per taco. That's normal for a place like this in any city. I will say that I'm not sure if their tacos are worth the regular menu price. They are tasty and they have all the right ingredients to justify that price tag. They are on the smaller side which is unfortunate. When the tacos arrived at the table, I thought we were going to have issues because each taco only has one tortilla. Tacos like this can sometimes fall apart with one tortilla. Not these! They stayed together until they were finished. I want to go back asap! They have burritos and tortas that I wanted but on this occasion, 2 dollar tacos were too good to pass up. So I ordered 4! Listen to this torta though... House-made chorizo, soft fried egg, pickled jalapeno, smashed black beans, chihuahua cheese, and garlic lime mayo! I'm not even hungry while typing up this review and that has me drooling. They also have plenty of starters and sides that will keep you busy trying to decide on what you want. Chile crusted potato fries? We weren't close enough to New Mexico but they have to be good, right?! I still regret not ordering them. I also found myself having a hard time deciding on what tacos I wanted. I was looking at shrimp and fish based tacos that I'd never order. They were paired with perfect ingredients! On to my tacos: (Listed from least favorite to favorite) -- Brisket - Slow roasted brisket, pork belly carnitas, avocado, fiery Arbol sauce. This was a letdown and I honestly wish I would've ordered another taco in its place. I usually try brisket when I go different places but the brisket on this taco was too tough. It was still good but not my favorite. -- BBQ Duck - slow roasted duck, ancho-agave glaze, pork belly carnitas, smashed avocado, pickled onions, crisp jalapeno strips. I had to order this because you don't find many duck tacos on menus back home. It was good. The ingredients were perfect. My only oddness about these tacos was the BBQ part of it. Everything on the taco tasted like quality except for the BBQ part. I'd still eat these tacos all day! -- Spicy chorizo -- House made chorizo sausage, fresh avocado, wood-fire grilled pineapple pico de gallo, pickled jalapeno, cilantro-lime crema. Pineapple on a taco? Of course, I have to order it. Chorizo is normally spicy but I didn't expect it to be as spicy as it was. After eating this taco, it made wish I had ordered another. -- Habanero Chicken - This taco was THE BEST! -- Crispy Yucatecan marinated chicken breast, cilantro-lime crema, shredded purple cabbage and pickled tomatillo salsa on a tortilla. I expected this taco to be spicier than it was. It didn't set me on fire like the Spicy chorizo did. Chicken tacos are tough. Sometimes you find places that cook the chicken perfectly and other times the chicken is too hard or the flavor is absent. This place has chicken down. I loved this taco! Next time I visit St. Louis, three of these tacos will be on the agenda. The only issue I had here was the service. All the employees were nice but it seemed like the organization wasn't there or that they needed one or two more people. I'll admit, on a Friday night it was busy but there were a few times that it seemed like we were forgotten about. It was odd because our main server only took our order, kept our drinks(water/soda) filled, and gave us our check. Everything else from the alcohol to the food to taking our empty plates was handled by different people. It seems like an efficient and preferred way of doing things, but in order for that to be efficient everyone in the chain needs to be doing their part. Parking in the area is solid and the staff are super warm and accommodating! We were seated and we're ready to order! One thing I will say that caught me off guard was how overcooked the chorizo was, almost had a bacon bit consistency to it. Outside the chorizo, everything else was great! Our favorite taco was the BLT Taco - it almost brought us to tears with its surprising depth of flavors. Would definitely come back and I'm hoping the duck tacos are in stock next time because those sound delicious! read more

UGH this place is delicious and I wish I lived here to enjoy it all the time! I was in town for work and needed a quick bite for lunch, and man, this hit the spot. The salsa and guac with the chips to start was phenomenal- good salsa and guac! The tacos were delicious and filling, too. Service was nice and friendly- what more could you want? This place has a chill vibe and has some great food. I saw tables in and out on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch in under and hour. Can't go wrong with this place! read more

Since moving to STL I have only heard great things about Mission Taco. Having finally made it to one of their many locations, I can confirm that this is a great spot for inventive and tasty tex mex fare. Upon arrival I was met by a kind host who seated me promptly. I ordered the chips and salsas, a spicy chipotle and a milder option, both were delicious and fresh. Not sure if the chips were made in house but they were also quite good. The margaritas were delicious me and my friend both enjoyed them. They are definitely mild and easy to drink. My only complaint was that the size is definitely deceptive- the margaritas are served in pint glasses but they are mostly just ice. I ordered three tacos, a vegetarian option, a fried fish, and the seasonal taco that featured shredded chicken and their pork belly carnitas. All were delicious, flavorful, and well balanced. The side of street corn seems to be their staple. I really enjoyed the corn-off-the-cob mixed with flavorful aioli and quest fresco. The portion was large enough to share and enjoyed by both of us. The only real con to the restaurant for me was how loud it was. We simply had to yell across the table to hear one and other. Additionally it is important to remember that parking in Soulard can be tricky. I will definitely be back and I am excited to try some of the other locations. read more
