We were seated quickly. Took our server a minute to come by but they were busy. We shared the sides and picked our own tacos of course lol. I like that you get more than one salsa selection. The tacos were yummy. My favorite of the three above was the portabella taco. It was flavorful and the mushrooms was cooked perfectly. The shrimp was tasty but it didn't wow me. I'm shocked I've never been here before tonight. I love tacos and I've heard about Mission from several people but had yet to visit. Let's start with the service, Emily was amazing! Probably the most personable server I've had, she joked with us, visited our table at the perfect times and overall just had great customer service. Next is the drinks, I highly recommend the Mezcal Margarita, this is literally the best margarita I have ever had, I could have drank them all night because it went down so easily so watch out, they can be dangerous! I have been here many times. Everytime I come here the food is always flavorful and cooked properly! The drinks are made fresh and are never watered down. The atmosphere is a nice chill place with a bar right in the middle of it all. The music is a little loud, but I can never hear anyone anyway so it's all good. I am a big fan of the custom mexican wrestler heads on the wall that were done by an established St. Louis artist. If you are ever needing to pick between here and another mexican place, go here. Updating this review due to owners response. Should have been clear. I would have given this restaurant a 3 at most before the price point. The cost subtracted only 1 star from my review. The food is ok . Not great, for the prices you charge it's not even good. I understand wanting to pay people well. I've worked in restaurants that have. But our quality to price ratio was not part of that equation of paying our employees. We didn't sacrifice on any front there. The point of the review was not to complain about the price it was to complain about the food quality not matching that price point. If the food was incredible price wouldn't be a factor but as it sits the food is mid tier at best. There are just better places in this city that pay their employees well and don't also overcharge their customers while using the well-being of their employees as a shield from criticism. read more

First time having tacos and I would say, not bad at all. I really like how Mission Taco uses soft-shell tacos instead of the hard ones so it holds the food together more. Came at around 6pm on a Saturday night and was surprised to find that it wasn't super crowded. 1. Baja Fish - The better taco out of the two that I tried. I got the grilled version for the fish and it was super juicy. 2. BBQ Duck - Not sure if there is any duck in this but the star was definitely the pickled onions which is so weird because I usually like the meat much more. 3. Chile Crusted Potato Fries - My favorite sort of fries is the ones where it is crispy on the outside but still hold the mashed potato texture on the inside and this one definitely got it. Loved the slight chile flavor on the outside. Could do without the dipping sauce which had too much mayonnaise for my taste. Small portion though for $4. Despite some spots I consider to be superior tacos, not the point of this review, Mission Taco is a mission success not matter the occasion. It's not just the fantastic late night menu or the amazing top shelf margs, it's the creativity and consistent execution of very solid tacos coupled with a strong atmosphere that screams hip St Louis food. Whether it's the loop or my preferred CWE location (superior patio or inside window people watching), the quality is consistent and the whole experience on point. Dinner at Mission on Delmar was, yet again, exquisite. I got my usual, the mango-hop-enero taco and chili crusted fries. I also got my favorite drink, the Slim Slam Jim Jam. This would be my pick for my last meal if I were on death row. Our server, Drew, truly went above and beyond. As I was leaving, the stroller holding my baby slipped from my grip and began rolling down the street and into oncoming traffic. Drew did not hesitate. They ran out of the restaurant, did about 3 back handsprings, a backflip, and a quadruple hammy whammer (and landed it, I might add). They saved my baby from the oncoming car. Stopped by mission taco after a long hiatus. Used to go all the time for happy hour, but it seems they no longer have the $2 taco promotion. Regardless I got my two favorite tacos here, the portobello mushroom and the carne asada. The mushroom one was the better of the two this time, has good flavor and a lot of mushrooms inside. The carne asada was a little dry this time, both in the taco and with the fries. The big difference I noticed this time was the tortilla just seemed a little stale and brittle, maybe will try flour next time. read more

Tacos.... yum...... Mission Taco Joint has a fun vibe, a decorative interior, but most importantly, they serve up delicious tacos! Our table ordered a variety.... grilled Baja fish taco (my favorite!!), Carne Asada, a portobello mushroom taco, a pork taco and a grilled chicken taco. Normally I take pics of the food, but..... we were starving!!! The tacos were promptly devoured upon delivery to our table! Excellent! As I mentioned, the Baja fish taco was my personal fave. Met a friend here on a Monday at about 4 pm. Only us and 2 other people in the restaurant. Service was pretty good, food not so much. I ordered the mushroom taco, and the plant based taco BOTH was nasty. I don't know if it was grease or mushroom juice coming out of one taco, but it was a lot, and it wasn't favorable at all. The plant based just didn't look or taste done, and I eat plant based in particular Beyond and Impossible. I'm not sure which this was or if it was either one. Couldn't finish the tacos. Okay, I guess I will be that person. Mission Taco Joint hit a middle of the road review for me. I live in the mecca of taco joints, so I tend to be a bit picky on my soft shell goodness. With that out of the way, I am by no means saying Mission Taco is bad, it just really left me with more to be desired. Arrived on a semi busy day, but was seated and tended to right away, so two thumbs up to the attentive staff. Menu itself is very straightforward, so no worries about spending ample time trying to figure out what you want. I opted for three tacos of course, those being: Beef Birria, Mango-Hop Anero Shrimp, and a Spicy Chorizo. Quick service was another plus even with being how busy it was, we got our food right away it felt like. So out of the three, Beef Birria won by a landslide, moist and delicious flavors that molded together very nicely. The shrimp taco was a tad bland and mango really overpowered everything and the spicy chorizo was sadly just okay, not too spicy to be honest. They did provide a ample serving size, so I was all on board with that and their prices are very fair and comparative to what I would pay for back home. So while not the best food experience, I would not shy away from trying it again to focusing on other menu items next time. read more

Duck tacos ftw!! mission Taco's is a tried-and-true consistent place to go for some decent taco offerings. The tortillas are made fresh on-site daily, and all of their flavors seem to go together really well. It is a mix between traditional and Americana taco style. My personal favorite dish to get since I eat low carb food, is a carne asada fries minus the potatoes. I then add a side of the mole a sauce, but they used to drench the burritos in. Top it off with some extra guacamole, and I am in low-carb high-fat heaven. In terms of the tacos, not only of the duck taco super delicious, so is the pork taco. The quacamole is okay but not their star. I would not recommend any of the mission Taco's for large groups, because not only is it a very popular place in the evening, they also just don't seem to welcome them. I showed up with a group of 10 people last week and was haggled over trying to combine two tables. I understand that they are trying to limit table size but I'm surprised they don't have a group area. read more

I'm visiting St. Louis and ordered a few different tacos for delivery. We ordered the mushroom, steak, and fried fish tacos. For sides we ordered the corn and the refried black beans. The best thing was the fried fish taco, WITHOUT the tortillas. It was the only item that had any seasoning other than everything being just a little bit spicy. All the tortillas were slightly burned which was the over arching flavor of the meal. Even the corn was burnt, I did not taste any lime or crema in the street style corn. My meal of three tacos, chips and salsa, and strawberry margarita were great and delivered quickly, but the service SUCKED! The bar wasn't busy but the bartender never asked how my meal was or checked on me. Instead he was busy laughing and loudly talking with his coworkers (and possibly managers) who were posted near me at the end of the bar. After being finished with everything for a short while, I sat there waiting to be acknowledged to get my bill. I had to ask for it finally. This was the third attempt that I had made to eat at this location of Mission Taco Joint since its inception. The first two times, the wait was so long (an hour) that I chose other options. I've been to mission taco quite often and I can say that you come here for the quality not the value. It is Delmar so high prices are obviously expected. I always get the Brahrito and south chicken burritos and they always hit the spot. I definitely recommend getting them smothered in sauce otherwise they tend to be dry. In the past the tacos seem to be overly dry for the large price per taco. I've had the duck and fish tacos which weren't star stoppers but the spicy chicken was very tasty. The chicken had a nice kick with an acidic salsa and sweet sauce to balance it out. My only issue is that the tortilla was a bit too soft and didn't have any slight browning The refrescas are nice but a little too sweet for me personally. The chips and salsa were bland.
