I ordered fish tacos. $13 for 2 tiny corn tortillas with the smallest piece of fish on each. Didn't come with rice or beans. Asked the server about it and he said only lunch includes rice and beans. It used to! So I spent $13 on 2 tortillas with practically nothing on them. Disappointed! I'll stick with Chuy's, or dos salsas in town where I know I get a good portion of food! read more

This is my first Yelp update on Serrano's since 2008. I have to admit my brunch experience was fine. Same charred beef fajita meat that I liked from it's inception. Thing is I haven't been a fan because most the food is bland and Adam G. himself once gave me crap for doing my job at an establishment I used to work at. Guess this was my first brunch at any location; here's what happened. I got up early in Driftwood, TX. Showered and headed towards Cedar Park with a car carrier I borrowed from a buddy. My car club pals chose to meet at a convenience store for technical help. I was picking a car out of a local neighborhood for an undisclosed sum. We met, picked, and then it was off breakfast on me. My buddy ended up insisting he pay for his wife who tagged along; more on that later. Hostess was friendly seating us. Very few tables occupied when we dined around 10AM. Only snafu with the service was she mixed up our separate tickets at the end of the meal. Chips and salsa are what I remember best about Serrano's. Someone ordered an additional small bowl of jalapeno ranch for the table. Not as good as another Elvis loving Tex-Mex giant's now with 83 locations. Seem's this small chain will always be based in Austin proper. Most of us order migas with our choice of additions (queso, ranchero, etc). Glad I stayed away from the extremely crisp bacon; flour tortillas were slightly better than I remembered. Refried beans and well seasoned potatoes rounded out all our plates. Well this is a toss up . When there was a Serrano's in Round Rock back in 2007-2010 they had great food and great portions . Service was never good but food was. Well they closed that location down and we were left with Cedar Park location- Not good that's another review . I always ordered the el pollo perfecto. Back in 2007 or so this dish was $9.99 and I hope to post a picture of what it looked liked then and now. Well it's now $14 Gone is the sizzling cast iron pan it cane in sizzling with chicken thighs and onions . I have it this at both locations and why do I torture myself it's terrible . This time the rice was old staled , the beans maybe 3 tablespoons , The chicken 3 small thighs tasted like H-E-B marinated chicken thighs.... Really no lies. Little onion and 3 slices of avocado. NO Sizzling platter just a plate. My son orders chicken flautes , that looked bad, falling apart soggy etc. Now I'm way ahead as that pollo dish really was not worth $14 . Don't order it . The basic chips salsa good and we ordered some queso perfecto the small $9 and the large $14. Yes.... $14 for a maybe 10 oz serving? When we seen the bill we gasped !!! Our fault for not paying attention to looking at the price , It's not worth $14 for a appetizer trust me . Overall this was at 2:30 on a Thursday. Thankfully the food is better than the service (barely). Our visit started poorly as the three girls who I assume were hired as greeters, were apparently annoyed to be bothered by customers wanting to be seated. Once seated our orders were eventually taken and after a sizable delay I was told they couldn't make the specialty margarita they had on the menu. I'm from Florida so being in Texas for work I had to try some Tex-Mex. having been a few places for Tex-Mex here in Florida I am well aware of good and bad and this place is definitely good. This review is based on a total of 3 visits so the overall grade is 5 stars. Newly built so the place looks great! Inside and outside bar and plenty of seats. Pros: Food, Drinks and did I say food? Service has always been good and I am a huge fan of sauces so when I got 3 enchiladas and the server let me mix and match the sauces for each one I fell in love. Most places will not allow that to keep it simple but boy did my taste buds explode with happiness. Queso con carne and the Queso Con chili were my fav. I also enjoyed the verde. They also had a chipotle and some other sauce but it became irrelevant at that point. Cons: Although managers and servers were always helpful on changing channels it seems they dont know or the place is not set up to have different TVS tuned to different channels. We wanted to watch a certain basketball game. Some guy came in and requested another and BAMMMM all the TVs were on one game. So thats my most major disappointment. Getting a serrano pepper with each dish truly is the cherry on top, well in this case, the pepper on top! When you arrive there is a sign that says to call so i did and they said someone would be out shortly. I waited a few minutes and noticed there was a table with a few bags of food, someone finally came out and grabbed one of the bags that was sitting outside. Picture this. You are an exhausted foster parent of 5 kids. You drop your kids off for a night out and decide to take your gift card a church gave you an go out to eat. Then you are treated to theft by dinner! We had a decent (read overpriced and average food. Nothing special by any means.) meal even though our waiter (KAVAN) doesn't get our order correct and never catches his mistakes. We got the ticket and asked that he use the gift card and put the remainder on my card. He gave us some long elaborate story about how gift cards you can only charge $5 or $10 less than the actual card amount. So he tells me he's charged $40 to the card. I leave $0 tip on that to keep from having the card not process properly. I left an 18% tip on my own credit card. We leave an go to target and I use my remaining balance, $2. I find this odd seeing as I was to have $10 remaining. I come home and log in to the gift card to find Kavan helped himself to an additional $8 tip! Had his service been exceptional, I wouldn't mind giving him the tip but flat out stealing from people is absolutely absurd! This child decided to help himself to additional money I did not add as a tip after he chose to come up with this lie about gift cards to get away with his theft. Forty-six dollars. That was the total for an order of steak fajitas for two plus two additional tortillas and small queso. Surely there had to be a mistake, but the nice lady on the phone assured me that it was accurate and that fajitas for two costs $35 at Serranos. Like a sucker, I didn't cancel the order and that unpleasant feeling of being bamboozled festered in my gut as I made the drive to pick up the food. I rationalized it away by thinking that this mythical order of high dollar fajitas would be massive (like fajitas for two often is at competing restaurant). The cost could be capitalized over several meals. Oh, how we would enjoy the reheated tacos over the next couple of days! If only this story had such a happy ending. In a plot twist comparable to seeing a marathon of late-career Shyamalan films, the bottom ripped out of the large paper carry-out bag at the moment I walked into my house. Fifty-dollars worth of black beans, sour-cream, and fajitas plummeted to the floor in a blaze of salsa-splashed glory. To the credit of the Serranos staff, almost everything was taped shut, so the damage was limited. Onto the thirty-five dollar fajitas. Oh, the side items were certainly doubled. We had black beans for days. Sadly, a portion of steak only incrementally bigger than a normal order for one would be the prize. There would be no left-over palooza with these slim pickings. That may be a good thing, as the meat was bland and uninspiring compared to the fajitas at...just about anywhere in town. For the elevated pricetag, a price bordering on steakhouse levels, expectations also increased. The disappointment grew from regret into impotent consumer anger. So, in the interest of "letting it all out" and processing this experience, I leave you with this: an inconsequential 1-star review by an inconsequential Yelper. read more

Our food was taken to the wrong table, then once the server realized that the customers at that table were telling him they didn't order the plates he removed the plates only to try and place them on our table. Pretty bad experience all around tonight. We sat outside, in the covered dining room, which has fans. We were bombarded with flies as soon as our food came. A disgusting amount of flies. Landing on our food, drinks and faces. Apparently the management knows how bad it is, according to our waiter. Then why don't they DO something about it? Food was alright, service was ok, but horrible experience as we had to constantly wave flies away from us, had to go get our own silverware and napkins, and never got our water refills. read more

This new Serranos is going to flourish in Cedar Park! Tex-Mex is not something that Cedar Park is short on so to stand out you have to have something a little different. What I thought was rather unique is there are two bars and two dining areas. There is a narrow dimly lit quiet(er) bar with only a couple TVs backed up to the parking lot. The garage windows open which will be nice when weather permits. Next to that bar is a quieter dining room which is great for family seating. The second bar is bright, boisterous and loud with 13 TVs tuned into sports. And the second dining room is small, narrow and would serve as a great overflow space in the bar area during happy hour. I would like to see them add outdoor seating, there is nothing like sipping a refreshing margarita on a patio on a warm Texas day. We found a spot at the sports bar and received decent service. I liked the cool Austin themed paintings throughout the bar. The wine menu was not impressive but there was at least one drinkable red wine. We stopped in during happy hour and I decided to take advantage of the two tacos for $3 on happy hour. For $3 I was honestly expecting little bitty bite size tacos but my fajita style chicken and spicy pork taco were filling! The pork packed much flavor while the chicken was a bit dry. The complimentary chips and spicy salsa were good and fresh. Jesse indulged in the bandera enchilada plate which is a generous sampling of three enchiladas served with beans and rice. The cheese with ranchero sauce was filled with delicious gooey cheese and wonderful savory sauce. The chicken with verde was rather bland in my opinion but makes for a great healthier option. The beef with a kickin' chile con carne sauce was rich flavorful and my favorite of the three. I noticed they carry the following Texas libations: Tito's, Deep Eddy's grapefruit and Austin Amber beer on draft. This Serranos will make its way into our happy hour rounds. Their solid happy hour is daily from 3pm-6:30pm and Sunday-Thursday 8pm-close. Happy hour includes: Discounted classic and flavored margaritas $7 Mexican martinis and Dos XX ritas $1 off all drafts $3.50 house wines $3.50 select premium drinks $3 "mini" tacos (two tacos) $2 appetizers $7 botana $4 chili con queso or queso especial There is ample parking at their private lot but note that the lot dead ends at the front of the restaurant making it awkward to turn around. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with Serrano's. I've been to one before, maybe once or twice, and wasn't impressed. The salsa is good, queso is better, and they have HOMEMADE FLOUR TORTILLAS! Mexican rice is just OK, beans were good and cheese enchiladas great. The taco was good, but honestly I prefer Rosa's. My fave place is still Morelia Grill, but this is a nice change in atmosphere and food. We will definitely be back! read more

We got here tonight and were surprised to find the waiting area only half full as the parking lot was slammed. The bar is first come first serve, but we waited for a booth since my husband likes to stretch out. We got called after ten minutes so it wasn't bad at all, especially being a Saturday. Our server was quick to bring chips and salsa and they were fresh and delicious. The salsa here is pretty hot so fair warning (well, at least to this white girl it is). I think I drank 4 glasses of water before the food came out. Other servers were on hand to help so we never had to wait long for refills which was great. The food was a different story though. We got called to sit at 5:45 and our food arrived at 6:30. I ordered a cheese quesadilla with pico inside along with rice and beans, and my husband ordered the fajita taco plate. I know they were busy but 45 minutes is an awful long time to wait for a quesadilla and some tacos. I rarely order quesadillas but I was craving one something wicked. It was good; I would have liked it better if the tortilla had more crunch and a nice char on it though. They come with sour cream and guacamole but that was more of an afterthought. The amount of guacamole was so tiny I found myself digging around my plate searching for the rest of it. I ate half and took the rest home for another day. My husband said his tacos were okay but seriously lacking in flavor. The meat didn't taste like it had any seasoning to it at all and his rice and beans were lukewarm making it obvious that they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. Just meh all around. So the hubs and I decided to give Serrano's a try last night for the first time. Can't say that we will be back. Not impressed at all. Upon arriving my husband ordered an ice tea which he received right away. I ordered a Sangria the same time. I received my drink 10 minutes later. Not happy. I have to give it to them as far as being in a prime spot, the outside appearance is very appealing. However-- I paid $6.00 for a not so full Sangria. My opinion is simply this.... Service is everything!!Not once was I asked if I would like another drink. Our server was nice but defiantly needs to check on his guest more. We've enjoyed Serrano's three times now. It's Nathan's favorite in our area. I like them but wouldn't consider them my favorite. I don't really have a favorite. The service is good. They are quick to seat you and bring your waitress. The menu is broad enough to satisfy your TexMex want. They also have some unusual additions as well. We shared a queso and chips. The chips are good. The queso a little bland. We took care of that by adding a bit of salsa. Nathan loves their fajitas. They look well cooked and come with all the fixings. Only disappointment is no sour cream which to me is a staple of fajitas. Wednesday is free meal for children so that was a nice surprise. However the children's burrito should be described as a bean taco. It's really not a burrito. I had the chicken soup. It was very tasty. It has a nice bite and a plethora of fillings. Only complaint is that it wasn't hot enough, but so many places don't serve their soups hot in my opinion. All and all we had a good experience. We will be back. read more

I've been to Serranos before but this was my first visit to the Cedar Park location. Came in this evening at about 830. The place was not busy at all. I guess the evening crowd had already cleared out. We were sat right down. We decided to sit outside. It's was hot but they have fans running so it wasn't too bad at all. About 5 minutes later a nice lady came by and took our drink order. The chips and salsa came about 10 minutes after we sat down. I little tarty in my opinion. The chips were fresh, crisp and tasty. The salsa was al little hot for my delicate tastebuds. Lol. It's was flavorful but too hot. The drinks arrived I had a regular margarita and my wife had a Mexican martini. Both were excellent. Way before our food arrived some kid stated stacking chairs on the tables as if they were getting ready to close. Kinda of made us feel like they wanted us to leave. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and asked if I wanted a table or booth. The young lady led us to a booth and we sat down. The server immediately was over and asked what drinks we wanted. I ordered our drinks and soon thereafter, Joshua, our server brought them. Joshua was very gracious and circled to make sure everything was fine with our drinks and if we needed anything else. The salsa was nice and spicy. But it was not overwhelming. The chips were crisp and tasteful. We had driven a long day from our travel. It was the day before thanksgiving and traffic was horrid. I've visited Serranos in Austin on 190 and was blown away. I thought I'd try this location as it is closest to my house. Very disappointed. The rice was very bland. Refried beans looked old and pasty and didn't taste much better. The tacos I ordered were ok, meat wasn't seasoned well. The plus was my sangria Margaerita, very good and they were not stingy with the liquor. My waiter was very kind as well. Will not return to this location EVER. read more
