We came here for a quick bite on a Friday morning. When we arrived in the plaza and parked, it was hard to tell where the front was. Soon we realized the entrance was on the patio side, alongside the burger restaurant. There was only one other person there when we walked in. We took a brief look at the menu and made our selections at the counter. The prices are a bit higher than elsewhere. We chose an al pastor and a carne asada. About 5 minutes later, our food was brought out to us. The tacos were fresh and looked appetizing. We dug in and enjoyed both tacos. The flavors of everything blended well together. The inside of the restaurant is rather small, with some tables and chairs for small groups. There is a shared covered patio outside as well. Restrooms are clearly marked as men's and women's with bright neon lights to match the interior decor of the place. Let me state I ordered UberEats prior to coming inside for pickup. The UberEats was a trio taco plate, street corn, and mangonada. The rice and beans from the taco plate was amazing as well as the corn and mangonada. The tacos however, were a little different. I had the pastor which was vibrant red/orange, the steak tacos had a sweet spiced flavor. But I was willing to try again later. Parking is a little weird but I found the place. I was starving and needed a quick fix before the movies so I called in. The lady who answered was friendly and said it'll be ready in a few minutes. The inside is very cute and petite and you can see right through the kitchen. The line was long but my food was ready. Unfortunately they didn't separate the beans and rice so my tacos were soggy from the liquid and the sweat from the steam. And with it being in the same container it wasn't much beans and rice. I really wanted to like this place. I see it each time I see my podiatrist, so was excited to have to time to stop in. Inside is festive, with pretty white couch seats (I'd hate to be the person to keep those clean) with each table. There are six TVs, which all but one had sports playing (the last one was showing a children's program--so something for everyone!). The employee at the counter was very friendly and discussed the menu with me, as I had explained I was a first time diner. He answered questions about items, and didn't give me any kind of hard sell on anything. The lemonada was huge, but boring. The chicken fajita quesadilla had a nice tortilla, grilled to a good crunch. The chicken was plentiful. The sides of sour cream, guac, and pico were perfect. However, the cheese was terrible. It was very sharp and over-powered the quesadilla (sharp cheddar?). I ate one section and threw the rest away. I'm guessing this is their cheese of choice, so I'm officially turned off by this business. So, if sharp cheese is your bag, you'll like Casamigos. I ordered a beef fajita soft taco. Not huge (which is fine for me). It had the taste of a street taco, including a lime wedge to squeeze onto it. I ordered takeout so I can't speak on the dine in experience but I'll address the food. Carne Asada Fries - 8/10. The flavor of the meat was good and that's where the points are coming from. I feel like there could have been more fries and toppings for the price and the Carne Asada was super small thin strips of meat. Also not the biggest fan of their fries (just a plain basic fry). Would I get this dish again? Yes. Chips and queso - 6.5/10. H-E-B makes better chips than what they have. They couldn't have been homemade. Even though the cheese was super thick and commercial like, I kinda liked it. Would I get it again? No. Maybe if someone else was paying. Gringas (single) chicken fajita filling - 2/10. The portions were small, the fillings were skimpy, and nothing about the flavor screamed "premium." I have had the shrimp tacos and carne asada so far, both really good although I do not like that fake ice burg lettuce on the shrimp tacos. It makes it taste weird. This is a nice little find. The fish tacos are light, crispy and hot when they are served. The mango habanero sauce is about the heat index of sliced pickled jalapeños, so if that's an issue get it on the side to try. The Carne Asada fries are a definite meal in themselves, and worth eating. Do yourself a favor and get an order...call dibs too. read more

My family and I use to love eating here. The food use to be awesome, the Aqua Frescas use to be on point, and the staff use to be really friendly, but our recent experience was sub par. Let's start with service. The older lady who took our order wasn't really friendly when we asked her a couple of non strenuous questions. She acted like she couldn't be bothered at all with helping us. No thank yous, no have a good days, and really no personality. It's unfortunate that being pleasant costs extra here, on top of already pricey food. The pineapple aqua frescas usually come with a cream on top, which was "forgotten" when it came to the table. I guess that also costs extra too. Our food was okay, and nothing really that would make me willing to make the 25 minute drive back to this place. Even the decor has been lacking lately here. They use to have cool grass wall with a neon sign, and even that went bye bye. So overall thoughts. I wouldn't make a special trip to eat here like I use to, but if I was desperate for food and was in the area, maybe. Honestly, if they just fixed the customer service here, I would be happy and maybe return here again. Until then, the jury is out on this place. We wanted something different from the norm. Used search and found Catalina's. We were in the mood for Mexican food. Location is nice off Ronald Reagan. Almost missed it as it's in one of the smaller shops in the plaza. It's small but very clean. It's a walk up to the counter to place your order. Very nice variety of choices: chips & queso, street tacos, burritos, etc. Ordering was quick and easy. On the night we visited they had free sm glass of margaritas. The food came out in paper trays. Margarita hit the spot with the added Tajin but the queso was a little more on the runny side and cold. Main meal was the chicken quesadilla, made with shredded chicken and served with guac and sour cream. Great flavor not overloaded on cheese, did wish it came with a pico but it was a great portion. Second time coming back to this restaurant. I am obsessed with the vegetarian burrito it is filling and so tasty. The queso is creamy and delicious and not that gross cheap water down queso other restaurants have it is sooo good. Now, me personally...I'm not really a big fan of Tex Med style Mexican food, so I can't say I'm the best expert on their cuisine. I'm more use to west coast Baja Style Mexican food and in my book the only style...my humble opinion od course. But the folks at Casa Amigos are doing something right. Their food is full of flavor. You gotta try their Taco selection. I've had their Carne Asada tacos, Fish Tacos and ,Chicken Burrito. My wife had the Carne Asada Fries. They won me over. The food is fresh, the staff is always friendly, and their Take Out order process allows for changes to the menu. I know this is a tough market, because of the number of restaurants & food trucks that offer really excellent tacos with homemade tortillas. Unfortunately, Casamigos is NOT one of the places. The flour tortillas were grocery-store style and all of the tacos were "okay". None were outstanding, all were acceptable. My search for great Austin-tacos will continue! I ordered 3 tacos, but none were so memorable. Also, tried to get a simple iced tea, but it wasn't offered. Tonight I came here for a quick bite with my kiddo or as I like to call her 'Thing two'. When we came into the establishment, we were greeted with a friendly "hello" by the cashier. When at the register, we quickly perused over the two-sided laminated menu and decided to order three menu items to include chips and salsa, carne asada fries and two steak street tacos. Carne Asada Fries: For folks who don't know, carne asada fries are a local specialty found on the menus of restaurants primarily in the American Southwest, including San Diego, where the dish originated. Carne asada fries really are a cross between loaded cheesy fries and nachos. Keep this in mind when reading the following regarding this dish's review--I am a native Californian (not the SNL kind) from SoCal. The carne asada fries here are served a top what seems to be Ore-Ida zesty straight brand fires topped with bacon bits, small bits of marinated steak, cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream and jalapeños. This was not my favorite item as I am accustomed to more traditional carne asada fries which have all carne asada meat and not a bacon bit/carne asada mash-up. Although I could ignore the store bought fries (in light of our current potato/ French-fry famine of 2019), let's be honest, carne asada fries are really about the carne asada. If given the option, I would not order this item here again. Chips and salsa: The chips were fresh as was the salsa, it was obvious that the salsa was not canned and made in-house. Steak street tacos: The tortillas for the street tacos were store bought and not made at the establishment, which was okay by me. The steak was tender and favored well.
