Beef Birria Taco with dip.
Jerry E.

First visit. We ordered Birrio (beef) Tacos, and a Chicken Taco. 2 Mexican Cokes, and a Horchata. The hype was accurate. What felt like a very authentic interior Mexico experience. I used to go to Guadalajara for work. They made tacos there that they would dip in a red sauce before serving. This is pretty similar with a red sauce on the side (Birria Tacos). This was just slightly different than the ones in Guadalajara, but similar, and very good. Different eating experience than typical tacos in central Texas. If you are looking for attention to detail in an interior of Mexico style taco (and the menu was primarily tacos and quesadillas), definitely worth a try. We loved everything. Service very good, and atmosphere/ambience nice and clean, and casual. I am only sorry that it took us so long to come try it out.

Machete de asada y birria tacos

We were adamant to try this place as we've tried many taco places in Austin and its surrounding areas and have not been impressed with any. Coming here from Mexico, our taco expectations are very big and not all tacos are created equal. We needed some food for take-out because my wife did not feel like cooking dinner so we decided to try the birria tacos, pastor and marinated carne asada ( this last one was per Aparicio's recommendation ). They were incredible. My 16 year old son inhaled them and saved the consomé to make himself some ramen later. As for the service, it was THE BEST we've seen. We wanted to try the corn and they were out of it. Whoever took our order gave us a taco, tuétano and two of their agua frescas because of this. We will certainly be back and will make this our go-to taco place in Leander. Sorry we have no good food pics, we devoured them.

This place is a hidden gem. We were greeted at the front counter, where you order. The host asked if it was our first time there (it was). Because of this, he immediately got us samples of their meat options to try. The space is small and the decor offers a few Instagram worthy photo ops; overall it's not why your there and doesn't totally convey the awesome experience you're going to have. The hospitality alone would make me go back, but the food is the real star. Everything is seasoned and grilled to perfection. The portion sizes are huge - make sure you're hungry when you go. We were very pleasantly surprised by the fresh corn used for the Hot Cheeto elote we ordered - by far the best we've had in the Austin area. We also ordered a couple of the refreshers - they tasted just as great as they looked.

Aparicios is dangerously close to me and I could not be happier! We originally went to Aparicios when it first opened and we were just ok with it... I went on a whim today and OH my lanta was I sooooo pleased. I spoke to Victor at the counter and placed my order. He kindly offered me an agua "on the house". Couldn't say no to a free agua fresca. I ordered the Dragon fruit pineapple agua. I also didn't realize that they sold Birria here. Apparently it was put on the menu temporarily and it was such a hit that they kept it on the menu. I briefly asked about the birria and decided to go with my usual pastor quesadilla. While I waited on my order (to-go), Victor HOOKED IT UP. I was waiting and he walked over with a WHOLE birria taco, consume, AND salsa. This taco was also on the house. I was so surprised and truly so thankful for his kindness. The birria here was beyond amazing. It had some spice to it so beware, not sure if this is how they regularly prepare it. It was just right for me but I know my partner (who doesn't handle spice well) would likely struggle with the spice. Anyway back to the birria... SUPER flavorful and juicy. I am so glad that I have this as an option now. I left with my regular order and brought it home. Just as good as usual. Huge shout out to Olga and Victor who made this recent experience so special with the treats.

Menu

We just ate the absolute BEST meal at Aparicios! We walked in and were instantly greeted with samples and helped through the menu. We settled on El Pastor, Chicken, and Asada tacos. Plus mini tostadas. And because their Horchata is homemade (it's LEGIT), I got one. Y'all, I cannot stress enough just how delicious our meal was. Everything was fresh, authentic, and DELICIOUS! Please visit this small business in Leander (just off Hero Way)! They need our support!

First and foremost, YUM! My friends and I stopped by here for a quick dinner as most other places were already closed. And while the reviews and pictures looked good, we weren't expecting too much. But we were pleasantly surprised! They have so many different unique drink options, it was so hard to pick what to drink. We ended up getting the dragonfruit mangonada, and with the server's recommendation, the strawberry horchata. (also the server was so sweet). But I could see why the strawberry horchata was a favorite, it was so delicious! The meat inside the tacos was so tender and flavorful. And the quesadilla portions were huge (I think you get like 5 triangles). We also tried the original elote bowl and it was so creamy and salty and so worth it. One note is that they do run out of some meats later in the day, so make sure you go earlier if you want all of your choices. The prices do seem a bit high, but the portions are pretty big and it's all so delicious! Will definitely be coming back to try some more stuff!

Machete campechano,

It's hard to find good tacos in this area, but Aparicio's absolutely nailed it -- amazing food, excellent service, and really good drinks. The staff is super friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is exactly what I'd expect from a true taco spot. I get that some people walk in expecting a full sit-down dining experience like any other restaurant, but that's not what a proper taco experience is about -- if you want that, go to Torchy's. Honestly, I wouldn't mind standing to grab my own food or salsas; it feels like a taco truck brought indoors, which adds to the charm. Don't hesitate to go -- ignore the negative reviews; they come from people who are just too close-minded to get it. For context, I'm originally from northern Mexico, very familiar with traditional street tacos and authentic cuisine. I've eaten at some of the most highly rated taco spots across different Mexican cities, so I feel confident saying Aparicio's would hold its own in Mexico -- they'd be a hit. The only downside? It took me way too long to even realize they were here. I drive by four times a week, have even parked right next to it, and never noticed -- it's just not obvious from the outside.

Would be the perfect sign

I've attempted to go to Aparicio's 3 times in the last week. The last time was 5:30pm on Saturday 9/9/23. They have the hours of operation posted on the door but the door was locked and no personnel were visible inside. While I was at the door another couple pulled up. They stated they were there on Friday 9/8/23 and again the business was closed. Looks to me like they probably closing down like the last restaurant that was in the same location If they are not going to be open they should update their website and post a big sign on the door so potential customers don't waste our time.

Food and drinks were great. Toms of meat and the broth for the Birria taco was amazing. Inside just beware as there is no central A/C from what I saw. They have wall mounted A/C and one portable one but it isn't enough to keep it cool. But it wasn't too bad when we went. Service can be slow and confusing. My girlfriend got her order really quick verse mine where I waited about 40 minutes later.

I was super excited to try this place. I always share their FB post to support local businesses. I was very disappointed. I'm giving 3* due to cost of food. They do not post their prices $$$ which are high. $34.00 with tip for 1 Machete grande taco and 1 lime aid is outrageous. The Machete taco is $21.00 which is really more like a quesadilla with meat on the front side so it looks fuller. It will feed 2 people if you have a normal appetite. The refreshing drinks look cool but are 99% ice with watered down flavoring for $6.50 total rip off...save your money. I do like they give you samples of the different meats to taste when you order. I really wasn't that impressed with the quality or the flavor. I would say birria had the best taste of the meats we tried. It has a great atmosphere, and a hidden restroom...great vibes. Bottom line I won't be back due to cost of food & drink.

Today we tried their secret menu Torta and Ooh MAN that was one juicy, huge, flavorful torta. We havnt ordered anything from them that we didn't like.

Location is at a right angle to hero's way - driven by several times and not noticed it was there! Wanted something other than pizza pulled in for Smokey Mo - we saw it was open and decided to check it out.. - great choice - food is top notch. Street tacos made large (or small) with prime ingredients! Tons of parking (it is a bit dark however at night) We tried each a different meat - was very flavorful. The Texas size is very large - like really a lot. Sauces definitely home made and good. Must try if your into Tex-Mex ~ Mexican spicy with a casual feel. (No alcohol as yet) Pro tip - try the small Tacos first, the big ones are like 4 or 5 tacos at once! :-)

Just the best birria we've ever had in Texas!

Unfortunately I got full and didn't get to try the tamales and gave them to a family member. (They looked good though.) I'll be honest and say that my partner had come here before and ordered a pastor taco and I took one look at it and couldn't get myself to eat it. It looked inedible. But based on this experience alone I would most definitely come back for the barbacoa alone! I'll try to get to the tamales next time. This traila is in a lot with a number of other trucks and the area is maintained VERY well. This is probably one of the best well kept food truck area I've ever been to. Over all a great experience and the barbacoa is worth a try!

I had stretchy pants. Here's the thing: it's just not my type. It markets itself as upscale Tex-Mex, but the energy lands somewhere between diner bar and "your friend's uncle's patio party." Speaking of patio -- it's a popular smoking destination, and that smoky perfume tends to drift inside and join you for dinner. Nothing says "refined queso experience" like a subtle hint of Marlboro. Now, the service? Truly excellent. Our server was attentive, warm, and on top of everything. Five-star human. And the happy hour prices? Genuinely fantastic. Dangerous, even. If we're rating value and kindness, they win. But the food... oh, the food. It's not bad. It's just... emotionally neutral. I like my Tex-Mex either fresh and bright or deeply authentic -- something that makes me pause mid-bite and whisper, "yes." This felt more like food that clocked in, did its shift, and clocked out. Competent. Polite. Unmemorable. And that's kind of the whole vibe. The restaurant feels like it's still deciding who it wants to be when it grows up. Upscale? Casual bar? Neighborhood hangout? It's in its finding-itself era. We've all been there. I really do want to like it. I may even keep trying because I believe in second chances and queso redemption arcs. But for now, it's a 3/5.
