We grew up in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, so we are Mexican food snobs. We have tried most of the Mexican food joints in this area and have never found one that meets our expectations, so we tried this place. My wife's beef enchiladas and my green chicken enchiladas were both excellent. The portions were huge. The service was top notch. Delicious refried beans. They should change their name to 'Cilantros' though. The guacamole was terrible for two reasons: over-processed and full of cilantro. We couldn't taste the avocado. The salsa was also full of cilantro, but I was able to pick most of it out. We didn't care for the yellow corn chips either. What I liked: they accommodated our large party well. (We got reservations for about 15 people on a Saturday night.) Their menu had all the things you'd hope to see on a Tex-mex menu. Our server was attentive and handled our group well. Food was prepared in a reasonable amount of time. What I wasn't crazy about: the food itself. The quesadillas didn't have much cheese, and my friend who ordered a quesadilla with meat said it didn't have much meat either. On top of that, the tortillas were quite thick, so the filling to tortilla ratio was off. So, while at first the quesadillas looked like huge servings, if you ate it all, you'd just fill up on what's essentially bread. They are so fluffy that they soak up the syrup. The flavor is like none we tasted before. To top it off, the homemade syrup is divine. We are shocked for this treat. Its a must try. You will NOT be disappointed. The tacos were great as well. But be aware they are huge. If you eat 4 usually, then you should only get 2. No lie. The flavors are unbelievably delicious. We checked out this joint on a whim. Firstly, I found the wait time to service to be very long. We were seated and waited for over 20 mins just to get a waiter assigned. The complimentary salsa was honestly really good! Nice and spicy! I tried the strawberry mango frozen margarita and that was super refreshing. We tried the coliflor tacos & the vegetarian enchiladas. Both our entrees had some issues. For instance I didn't ask for double beans, the Mexican rice was a little undercooked. Overall the food had more potential & service needs work.. ! My wife and I LOVE the place but got the order after dang near and hour and guess what, get it home and it's wrong.. my Emci was only 25% there as only. Smashed taco shell represented it, no rice and beans as were the sides I ordered, the queso had gone back to velveeta cheese brick status and my wife's three beef taco shells also smashed. The. I used to love Serranos and frequently went there in the 1990's. Something about their food seems to have changed along the way and we stopped going. I went there today hoping for the best. The service was super slow and we waited what seemed like 30 minutes to get our drinks. Our salsa bowl stayed empty and we had to ask for a refill since our waitress didn't notice. Finally we ordered our meals and we each added an extra taco. Almost an hour later our meal came out with no taco so we had to remind her again what we had ordered. The enchiladas had like a tablespoon of enchilada sauce on top so I asked for more sauce. Later when we paid the bill I noticed that they actually charged me $2.00 for the extra sauce. We had been in Mexico for several months so have had plenty of real Mexican food but the restaurant was conveniently next to our hotel. The service was good and the food tasty. I have found that many US Mexican restaurants over sauce and add way too much cheese. This was not the case. I had the vegetarian enchiladas with beans and rice. They were tasty and filling. I have been a little lazy to write my review. This past Monday I was feeling mexican food and since we can't eat in at the moment I looked up on Yelp who delivered and Walla "Serranos". Serranos delivers thru uber eats. I viewed the menu and ordered the carnitas. I also ordered the guacamole which comes with chips. After placing the order it said it would take about 30 minutes, however it took just over 20 minutes. There was plenty of food. My carnitas came with rice and beans. The meat was tender and served with pico de gallo and avacado. I thought the carnitas were delicious. The rice and beans were average but still good. The guacamole was decent but it didn't really stand out to me so I would rate it as average compared to other mexican style resturants in the Austin area. I do give them and uber eats a big thumbs up for the quick delivery. The price is a little expensive when you pay for the delivery and tips, however at the present we have a lot less choices. So if you are craving mexican food to be delivered then give yourself a break and try Serranos. read more

This is my first Yelp update on Serrano's since 2008. I have to admit my brunch experience was fine. Same charred beef fajita meat that I liked from it's inception. Thing is I haven't been a fan because most the food is bland and Adam G. himself once gave me crap for doing my job at an establishment I used to work at. Guess this was my first brunch at any location; here's what happened. I got up early in Driftwood, TX. Showered and headed towards Cedar Park with a car carrier I borrowed from a buddy. My car club pals chose to meet at a convenience store for technical help. I was picking a car out of a local neighborhood for an undisclosed sum. We met, picked, and then it was off breakfast on me. My buddy ended up insisting he pay for his wife who tagged along; more on that later. Hostess was friendly seating us. Very few tables occupied when we dined around 10AM. Only snafu with the service was she mixed up our separate tickets at the end of the meal. Chips and salsa are what I remember best about Serrano's. Someone ordered an additional small bowl of jalapeno ranch for the table. Not as good as another Elvis loving Tex-Mex giant's now with 83 locations. Seem's this small chain will always be based in Austin proper. Most of us order migas with our choice of additions (queso, ranchero, etc). Glad I stayed away from the extremely crisp bacon; flour tortillas were slightly better than I remembered. Refried beans and well seasoned potatoes rounded out all our plates.
