My latest gel manicure.
Beth S.

Clean and stylish decor. I've had good experiences with all the technicians for both manicures and pedicures. I really like that I see them take the tools out of sealed plastic. That hasn't been my experience with other salons in the area.

Uneven nail cuts with paint that starts above the cuticle

This is a bummer. I've been here a few times now and while the place looks great, is exceptionally clean, and comfortable, the actual product (in my case a pedicure) is subpar. I'm attaching photos of my pedicure today and you can see that only part of my little toe nails were painted, while my big toe has paint in my skin and the nails unevenly cut. This lack of attention to detail has been my experience at Serenity over all, but do to its location, I have kept trying just hoping that at the next appointment I would meet the right technician. I probably should have complained about this last pedicure but I had already wasted so much time and wanted to get out of there. At this point though I think it is time for me to find another place that likes repeat business.

Excessive nail polish that wasn't bothered to be removed.

Very disappointed. I have been a loyal customer to this salon for a few years now. Although I can't complain about my regular nail tech who always does a wonderful job. My visit on November 21st was very disappointing and upsetting. I called the day of to request a gel full set and the owner informed me that they did not have a full staff that day but that her husband was able to take us in with no problem. Now since I did have my brothers wedding the day of I was in desperate need to get my nails done. I did appreciate her getting both myself and my friend in the same day. The service and experience I got from her husband was not what I expected. He started with my friend on her full set and then continued with my full set. He was not attentive to what I had requested at all. I felt like he was rushing through the service as if he had somewhere to be. Here are my complaints.. 1) He did not even give us the option of the shape of the nail.. he went right off to start with a coffin shape which by the time I realized it was too late so I did not say anything. 2) The size of the tips for certain nails didn't seem to be the correct size for that specific nail 2) Some of the nails were overfilled by the acrylic powder. 3) The nail polish wasn't fully painted on the whole nail as it should be which made the nails look like it was 3 weeks in already. 4) There was effort to clean up the area of leftover nail polish on my hands I didn't realize all of this until I left the salon and since I had my brothers wedding the day of I didn't have time to actually complain in person until 2 days later. Now I did make an appointment after the incident on December 18th given the fact that my regular tech was back but I thought since the owner was aware of the disappointment in the previous visit she would come and apologize and correct the problem. She did not offer any type of reimbursement or compensation which did not show good customer service at all. I was able to bare with their overpriced services only because of my nail tech doing a wonderful job. Now although I will miss her very much but with the lack of detail to customer service I do not see myself coming back. I no longer recommend this place.

Yelp came through...again... I love my nail place in Fairfax but had read such good reviews about Serenity Nails & Spa, and this place is a tad closer to me. It was also easy to get a very last minute appt so off I went! The space is awesome. It's different compared to the plethora of nails places in the area. When I walked in, I saw small spaces of pedi loungers. It was not a big room filled with a long line of pedicure loungers. This place has their sectioned off in separate areas. There are 4-6 chairs in each section. I feel like it's a bit more intimate and private. They also have a VIP room( 4 chairs and a private area with a glass door) that you can book for an extra $10 a person, you add it to your pedicure selection(pedi priced from $35 on up depending on what kind of scrub, organic treatments, etc). They have a big menu of services just for pedicures. I was impressed by the offer of fruit and beverages(sodas, water all served in nice glasses). They use timers here because they advertise about $1 a minute, and want to make sure you get your full treatment. It's a cool concept. My pedi was awesome. I added the salt scrub for an addition $5. I also had some fancy painting done. They took their time and made sure everything was pristine. Each staff member was friendly, accommodating and patient. I'd definitely come back again although I will miss the hot stone and neck massages (complimentary) from my other place.

New plexiglass windows for safety, however I don't think they are low enough
Kristen S.

Eh, they as many nail salons do is try to up sell but they are already so expensive. $38 for a pedicure, and that's the lowest option. They now only take apps or cash for payment, no cc use. I appreciate the attempts in social distancing and added safety measures but I'll try another salon to find the best one for me

Hot tea served!

I've been coming here several times now... and just over it! I come here because of the convenience and the availability of associates without appointments. However, it is starting to feel like it's not worth it anymore. I pay $35 to get my gel manicure down but in 5 days, the polish start to chip away! It does not happen with other places! It happened to me last few times too! And even one time, the entire polish came off at once while I was on vacation. That polish was only on there for 4 days at the time. I'm not paying $35 to keep my gel polish for 5 days! It's suppose to last me at least 2 weeks! Not quality service!!!

My first visit to serentity per a friend's recommendation. I set up an appointment and saw Loan. She was very good, detail oriented and took her time ensuring that I was happy with my final product. The ambience is amazing, the moment you walk into the salon you get a sense of tranquility. It wasn't too busy and social distancing is no problem. I will definitely be coming back to

I have been seeing my nail tech Mimi for the past 10 years, and have him followed him to Serenity which is by far the best salon he's been at. Mimi is so talented and always does a phenomenal job! I cannot recommend Mimi or Serenity more! Seriously - Mimi is such a wonderful nail tech and I'm always receiving compliments on my fun nails thanks to him!

Well needless to say, we will be on the hunt for a better spot- FOR SURE. Here's what our feedback was to the establishment since they asked, and I decided to share here in case it's helpful to anyone thinking about going here: "The overall experience was disappointing and did not meet the standards expected of a professional wellness or spa environment. The walk between buildings felt awkward and disjointed, and the areas where services were provided were visibly unclean. This immediately detracted from the sense of calm and comfort that clients typically seek when booking spa services. The sauna instructions were overly complicated and nonintuitive. Rather than supporting a seamless, stress-free experience, the setup required unnecessary effort and attention at a time when guests should be able to arrive, decompress, and enjoy the service. One of the facials was particularly concerning. The provider fell out of her chair during the session, left the room for approximately 15 minutes within the allotted service time, and complained openly about missing supplies that had not been ordered. Her presentation and behavior appeared impaired or otherwise not fully attentive, which was alarming in a setting where professionalism, focus, and client safety are expected. There were also sanitation concerns. Gloves were not worn during the sessions- in particular extractions & close facial work, which raised hygiene and safety questions. Given the nature of skincare treatments and direct contact with facial areas, adherence to clear sanitation protocols is critical. Both facials were performed below expected standards. Product application felt careless rather than intentional for both clients. Creams were applied in a manner that resulted in product entering the nostril area for both clients. In one instance, the technician had to awkwardly clean the inside of a nostril during the service, which was unexpected and uncomfortable (and something never experienced prior). In the other facial, cream entered the nostril and remained there throughout the session, creating concern about inhalation; the client ultimately had to clean it out herself after the session. This experience was distracting and far from relaxing. Additionally, massage and sculpting techniques reflected a noticeable lack of refinement and training, particularly for clients accustomed to higher-quality services. Overall, the experience lacked attentiveness, professionalism, cleanliness, and the level of care expected in a premium setting."

Nancy was with a client, but unlike some other places I visited, she was polite and helpful with the information I was looking for. This helps me choose which place I will visit next week and in the following two weeks after that. Nancy informed me what the prices are, but this seems to becoming a trend since this is the second place I have visited where the credit card fee goes up as the time for the service goes up. Nevertheless, if you are going for 60 minutes- the cost is $70. With a Credit Card its $75. 90 Minutes costs $100.00. With a Credit Card its $110. I don't know yet if table shower or table shampoo is an option or included in the price, but I will find out soon. Nancy grave off a great vibe and even though she was busy, she was polite. I know the next two places I will be visiting. Great job Nancy with a first impression.

QQ1 Spa Is a precious gem of a neighborhood small business in the Franconia-Alexandria region of…read moreFairfax County, the kind of local treasure that civic leaders and residents love as much as loyal clients do. It takes mere minutes into a first visit to understand why, as one's stress and tensions are elbowed and squeezed and cupped out of various muscles in the shoulders, neck, back, arms and legs by the expert ream of licensed massage therapists, many holding licensure not just in Virginia but also in their home country of mainland China. QQ1 Spa is the vision of group leader Jenny, who manages the daily operations, oversees the three other female massage therapists (also from China, and also dual-licensed), and who steps in during peak times to help with client requests for everything from 4-handed massages to couples therapy to "cupping." The latter uses-- you guessed it-- several small-teacup-sized cups but translucent and without handles-- to draw blood to the surface of the skin to help drain it from knots creating muscle tension. Jenny and her staff -- including Emily, Eva and a fourth therapist -- are all wonderful treasures. When one enters QQ1, one immediately sees each team member's government-issued massage therapy licenses, each one up-to-date with state and local municipality renewal permits required to remain in good standing. A pain in the tush, to be sure. A great chance for people to grouse about the bureaucracy creating needless layers of guvmint spending to the burdens of American workers. Well, yes. But. There is value to the community good in having laws that, when followed by the citizens, show the patriotic zeal these most recent of Americans display to ensure their credentials are noted by current and prospective new clients when they enter the front door. Choosing "QQ1" as the spa's name was a nod to the Chinese cultural tradition of using certain numbers and letters in business titles to help enable good fortune and prosperity. QQ1 is on-brand to telegraph a message of trust to consumers. Perhaps akin to American small businesses that use such titles as A1, Best, and Top Service, among others. It's so endearing that any modern small business would invest such thought and care into these details. Yet QQ1 has. And it shows in their scheduling flexibility when a new client first calls to see if any appointments are open for a new client's unexpected back pain flair-up. Which is surely going to be exacerbated by the added pain in the neck of trying to find a quick available time to get a professional therapist treatment. Which makes it great to know that I when you call QQ1 they will say: just drive over. They handle this type of thing all the time. How often can anyone say they actually leave a retail establishment feeling so much better than they did when they came in?
