QQ1 Spa Is a precious gem of a neighborhood small business in the Franconia-Alexandria region of Fairfax County, the kind of local treasure that civic leaders and residents love as much as loyal clients do. It takes mere minutes into a first visit to understand why, as one's stress and tensions are elbowed and squeezed and cupped out of various muscles in the shoulders, neck, back, arms and legs by the expert ream of licensed massage therapists, many holding licensure not just in Virginia but also in their home country of mainland China. QQ1 Spa is the vision of group leader Jenny, who manages the daily operations, oversees the three other female massage therapists (also from China, and also dual-licensed), and who steps in during peak times to help with client requests for everything from 4-handed massages to couples therapy to "cupping." The latter uses-- you guessed it-- several small-teacup-sized cups but translucent and without handles-- to draw blood to the surface of the skin to help drain it from knots creating muscle tension. When one enters QQ1, one immediately sees each team member's government-issued massage therapy licenses, each one up-to-date with state and local municipality renewal permits required to remain in good standing. A pain in the tush, to be sure. A great chance for people to grouse about the bureaucracy creating needless layers of guvmint spending to the burdens of American workers. Well, yes. But. There is value to the community good in having laws that, when followed by the citizens, show the patriotic zeal these most recent of Americans display to ensure their credentials are noted by current and prospective new clients when they enter the front door. Choosing "QQ1" as the spa's name was a nod to the Chinese cultural tradition of using certain numbers and letters in business titles to help enable good fortune and prosperity. QQ1 is on-brand to telegraph a message of trust to consumers. Perhaps akin to American small businesses that use such titles as A1, Best, and Top Service, among others. It's so endearing that any modern small business would invest such thought and care into these details. Yet QQ1 has. And it shows in their scheduling flexibility when a new client first calls to see if any appointments are open for a new client's unexpected back pain flair-up. Which is surely going to be exacerbated by the added pain in the neck of trying to find a quick available time to get a professional therapist treatment. Which makes it great to know that I when you call QQ1 they will say: just drive over. They handle this type of thing all the time. Absolutely horrible! This is barely a step up from a mall massage. It was difficult to find for starters. Upon arrival, my first clue was the paper towel where your face goes. Then the bed had no warmer and no covers! There was a tiny sheet that barely covered you and she tried to massage you through the sheet! I stopped her and said this isn't going to work. I explained I wanted a hands on massage with oils. It was at that point I realized these folks were not trained massage therapists. I then told her to cut it to 30 minutes because I was already 10 minutes in. My massage went from a Swedish massage to a full blown deep tissue! I am beyond not happy. When she finished she simply left the room. No explanation nothing. She came back with a wash cloth to wipe off the oils! It doesn't end there! When I checked out she said $50 then shows me a sign that says $3 cash discount. Since I don't keep cash I proceeded to use my card and she charged me $53 - the sign was written incorrectly. It wasn't a discount but an extra $3 credit fee! I tried to explain what her sign said however her English skills were very minimal. So, I wrote in $50 signed it and left. I could write a full dissertation on how great this place is however, I'll spare you the details and present what is needed. I can honestly give this place 5-stars because I have been to tons of massage establishments in this region. This one literally lives up to the hype! The place is easy to find, clean, and presents a relaxing atmosphere. I originally was there to get a 60 minute massage ($70) but toward the end I changed my mind to 90 minutes ($100). I have been to other places that try to squeeze more time/money out of you but this change was of my own freewill. I was so relaxed that I did not want it to stop, therefore I extended the time in hopes of remaining in my euphoric state. Cindy was my masseuse. We came in for a couple's massage and got very different massages from two masseuses with very different skill levels. My husband got a 5 star massage--his masseuse was methodical, adjusted her pressure, incorporated stretches, all around great. My masseuse didn't seem experienced and didn't seem to care. There was also a communication issue--at one point early on, she put a lot of direct elbow pressure on my spine and I said ouch. She took that to mean absolutely zero pressure for the rest of massage and it felt like someone was just applying oil, not a massage. Because of that, there were at times it was really ticklish. I raised this multiple times and asked for more pressure, but she instead took this as a sign that I'm not someone who is used to getting massages, and said that in Mandarin to her colleague, I guess not realizing I understood. The other masseuse understood the issue and tried to help explain but she didn't get it. Just awful. Bottom line, it really depends on the masseuse you get. read more

I went to QQ1 Spa for the first time and felt at home immediately thanks to the friendly staff. The location is in a quiet corner of an office building and the price is fair. As for the massage, it was just what I needed from exercising too much. The therapist got all the knots and had me wanting more. I recommend this place for regular treatments. Thanks QQ! Haven't been here in a while because I was away but going back was awesome once again. I will start with the good part and say that I did enjoy the massage I received at this establishment. They provided the deep pressure and stretches I needed. They listened to my muscle concerns and addressed the problem areas quite well. The pressure was extremely deep and great. The only reason why I am giving them 2 stars is that I noticed a white camera on the corner of the wall in the room I was in (room on the left). It had a piece of tape partially covering the lens area but it made me feel really uncomfortable knowing that a camera was even in the room. At first I thought I was paranoid and it was not a camera but when I stepped out of the room I saw cameras all over the place. While I understand the need for security, it comes down to privacy as well. If I did not see the camera in the room I would have been back for another massage since the therapist did a wonderful job. But for now I have found another therapist who I am happy with. read more

QQ1 saved my day. I had a 4pm appt on a Sunday at an overpriced day spa in Old Town which I learned was double booked upon fighting traffic and looking for street parking. I called QQ1 at 4:30pm, they took me at 5pm for a 90 minute massage. The space was easy to find in a quiet area, and there's plenty of parking. Jenny was fantastic; I got a 90 minute deep tissue massage with hot stones. Hands down the best massage I've ever had of many over the years. The price is amazing for the quality of work and time. The oils smelled great, the massage table was comfortable as was the temperature of the room. The music playing on the tablet just outside the room was great, and my eyes were closed the entire time... the atmosphere was perfect for me, and I appreciated not having to pay more for the "ambiance" you may find in other spas. I booked a 90 minute massage for myself and two friends, one of whom is 8 weeks pregnant. They were able to offer her a gentle maternity massage, and and we all left feeling like our bodies had totally melted away! For my massage, the pressure was so firm that all my muscles felt invigorated and loosened up, and one friend said her massage made a shoulder injury she'd had a few months prior practically disappear! Please stay away, they give one price for a message, sadly it was 12 minutes, then the dry rub salt or sugar, the messy wet rag, wiping, the stones were plopped down, toyed with, not even a half hour and was done. then $90, which I already paid, never pay in advance cash. Next it is stated I owe more I stated you have not even given a 12 minute message, no stone message, just wet rag used again and again. A woman said she would give "30 minutes free" but nothing they do is relaxing, no music, just horrid wet rag dripping. I had to get home and take a shower to remove the junk of mess on me. She showed a price list, said a price. I left my car at 12:00pm and was driving out at 12:35pm. Please nothing that is stated happens, no trained anything by anyone. It's not a fancy day spa but everyone who greeted me was welcoming and friendly and I have to say, while my masseuse was very quiet she was also very solicitous, asking me at least 3 times if the pressure was too much. I asked for medium pressure and there were still points where I thought I was going to come up off the table. No reflection on her, just some knots I've been carrying around since 1990 or so. They'll never leave completely but she loosened me up enough that I felt like a new woman at the end. It turned out to be a very good decision since the masseuse (sorry I forgot her name) gave a very relaxing but also therapeutic massage. I felt great afterwards. Because I saw another reviewer's comment about a camera, I tried to see an obvious object that looked like a camera or a hole but didn't find one. Let's start with the good news... Tina was amazing! I almost fell asleep several times during my massage. Her hands work magic on your body. I feel so relaxed, even now as I type. One thing for sure...They are serious about you being on time, so try not to be late. I was 2 minutes late and she called me right when I was walking up to the door. Which is understandable... time is money. They were all really friendly. They tried to up-sell me a few times, asking if I wanted to increase the massage from 60 minutes to 90 minutes. I didn't mind because they are good at what they do and their prices are reasonable. The only thing I didn't like was 1) the ambiance. Their facility looks like an old office that they converted into a spa. From the looks of the place, it appears to be a bit outdated and not very appealing to the eyes. The AC was so loud I couldn't really hear the relaxing music playing in the background. 2) Instead on using a sheet to cover me, they used a towel. The opening on the massage table where you're suppose to rest your face was covered by paper towel. I told her I couldn't breathe and she replaced the paper towel with an actual towel. In regards to these two things, I think they cut corners. If the masseuse wasn't so good, I don't think I would come back. If you don't give a damn about ambiance and just need a good massage, this is where you need to go. read more

The person who did my massage (swedish oil whole body with deep tissue on neck and back) could not do a thorough massage because her knees couldn't take the standing and pushing in on my neck and back. I made an appointment with QQ1 Spa because I was in dire need of someone to relieve the neck and shoulder pain I had due to hours crouched in front of a laptop. I made a same-day appointment, and was greeted warmly by the spa owner and my masseuse (I forgot her name!). I opted for a 60-minute deep tissue massage and asked for maximum pressure. At times during my 60-minute massage I was deeply uncomfortable, but I knew this was because she was doing her job to get all the kinks out in my neck and shoulders. However, there were also times where I was in relaxation heaven. My masseuse clearly knew what she was doing, and I left that 60-minute appointment ready for BED. It had been several years since I last had a deep tissue massage. I had a great massage therapist that was the absolute best, but she moved away. After a few attempts with some others,I gave up. Seems that there are lots of massage therapists who can't get the job done. I always have very knotted-up shoulders and neck. After deciding I really needed to find another good massage therapist, I saw QQ1 Spa listed here in Yelp. I called and made an appointment for the next day. The place is small, clean, and easy to find. Jenny was my therapist, and she runs the place. I took the hour deep tissue massage. The room was nice and dark, comfortable,and quiet. Jenny was as nice as can be, and found some knots I wasn't even aware of! She worked on all my trouble spots, and I left feeling 100% better. Results can't be argued. Jenny knows what she is doing. I love this place. It isn't fancy inside. If you are into that. I am not. I have been to many fancy places and basically wasn't satisfied at all. I just moved here and I needed a good massage. Stress level was very high. After I met with Wendy, I had the best massage. It hurt at first but than I felt wonderful. I was a mess. I needed cupping, Stone, everything. It has been a week and I still feel relaxed. I have tried Thai massage in Canada. Few times in Korea, Seattle. I have traveled a lot and tried many places. This is my favorite. Jenny and the other ladies here are great. I have been coming here now for a long time and still think they are the best. Outside of a normal massage they always add some stretching into the mix which helps me because I am not flexible at all. Before I travel and when I return I always come in to either get ready for the long flights or to loosen my back up from the flights.
