I had a fantastic massage here. I was in so much pain and my therapist really got out all of my knots. Both my therapist and the front desk staff were friendly. I felt better immediately after and could actually move my shoulders again, which was amazing. I upgraded to the Chinese massage oil, which is tingly, but felt excellent when getting the knots worked out. The soothing music and water sounds were enjoyable during the massage. If you need a therapeutic massage, this is the place to visit. read more

I had an inkling to get a massage. Around 5pm, I requested an appt for 6pm. Within minutes, I received a confirmation for my appt. I'm spoiled and the location is right under my apt complex. But it's rather easy to get to if you're coming from a little ways away. Like any Arlington spot, you can find street parking, a garage around the corner, or metro. The location is aromatic and clean. The receptionist is friendly and inviting. The massage therapist, Sunny, was amazing!! She asked how much pressure I wanted and checked if it was okay etc. I will definitely be going back. read more

My partner and I went to the Ballston one recently. As new customers, we found the spa via Spa Finder hoping for a discount. The receptionist was not very helpful and said they did not do discounts on the weekends, which the website never indicated. They could be more transparent about that online. The masseuses were great on the other hand. However, because of the lack of transparency (and how impossible it is to find their location) I wouldn't recommend this place. There is an abundance of spas I go to in the area with competitive pricing as well. Type of care was okay. Massages are relational and we'd rather go somewhere we're valued, especially as new clients. read more

Deep Tissue Massage was excellent with Fiona! The massage was thorough and all pain was dissipated.

Very thorough. No nonsense. This is not a spa, this is a helpful healing massage. On time. Great service. Good value. Would buy a gift card for an athlete or a medical professional. read more

TDLR: If you want someone to work out the knots in your body, this is the place. David went IN on my muscles and it is the first time I've ever experienced anything like it. We came for a couples massage on a Friday night and I was shocked how many people were coming in and out! The receptionist asked if we had any injuries, but that was it. We didn't profile a preference of male/female. We were taken to our room, and the male came to me and the female to my husband. I thought that was an interesting choice, but didn't mind at all. They both asked us what type of pressure we wanted from our massage and we both responded with "hard". That is exactly what we got! The massage we both received was similar to other people's feedback- nothing that we've ever experienced at another massage place, just different techniques and a lot of pressure. It was everything that you wish a deep tissue massage to be. This man worked every knot possible, I was impressed. I don't know how his hands didn't hurt at the end. While I wouldn't say that it wasn't a relaxing massage, he made me realize areas that had knots that I didn't even know exited. I appreciated him checking in on me multiple times to get feedback on the pressure. read more

Not sure why people aren't giving better reviews, but I had a great experience here. Booked a 90 minute deep tissue with Nancy and I left super happy and relaxed. She was awesome, place was very clean and quiet (not always the case with other places), and the receptionist was very kind and welcoming. I'll definitely be returning! read more

Amazing! Best massage I have received in years thank you Chloe !! Will definitely be returning!

Interesting message. It was our first time coming here tonight for the couples massage. We were hanging out at Ballston Quarter and in the spur of the moment decided to get a massage. We dropped by about 30 minutes before they closed and luckily they still took us in. 5 stars. Payment: you get a discount if you pay with cash. We paid $128 for the couples 1 hour massage. The massage: this is the interesting part. I'm not sure what kind of massage we got lol. We're used to Swedish. Tonight we got a mix between Swedish and Deep Tissue I would say. The massage was light and then it would get super intense. When it was light I almost wanted to laugh because I felt like I was being tickled. When it was round I was getting someone elbow jabbed into my back. I was kind of cold in the room, I could feel the AC was on. The oil was a little cold but the table felt warm. Overall we came out feeling relaxed. Parking: there's a garage that's $1 for up to three hours about a block away. Totally worth it. Any who. Call ahead to check availability or wing it, and hope for the best lol. read more

Pretty sure I just had the best massage I've ever had. I came in today for a 90 minute massage with Leo. I was greeted immediately and the receptionist showed me to my room and told me to undress and lay on the bed. Once my masseuse, Leo, came in, he asked me the pressure I'd like and what my problem areas were. I asked for firm pressure and boy did he give it. Yes, At some points it hurt but a good hurt. As soon as he released, I felt instant relief and a wave of lightness. I could tell he mixed in some trigger point/acupressure which was amazing. He focused on my problem areas perfectly and I could feel my knots melt away. I was so relaxed and he gave adequate attention to every section. I walked out feeling amazing! I know I'll be sore tomorrow but that good kind of sore (fyi if you ask for firm pressure or deep tissue massage, soreness is normal. Remember they are working muscles and tissues you don't normally use). Overall, my experience was great! They also give a discount if you pay in cash, which I didn't know prior so that was a pleasant surprise. I will definitely be back and will make sure I request Leo again! read more

Ballston Therapeutic Massage is an absolute gem! In particular Fionna is amazing! The spa is clean and has a great vibe. Incredible massage for cost. I am so happy I discovered this spa! The massages are very therapeutic and go a long way to heal issues! read more

Fiona is FANTASTIC. Perfect pressure and a talented MT. Place is super clean, easy to book and on time. Will be back soon!

I needed a massage so desperately after my crazy weekend of cycling and hiking, I was prepared to accept any level of service. What I wasn't prepared was the absolute MAGIC of this place and the therapist who worked me over. Sonny was amazing. I didn't have to ask for a single adjustment in pressure. Her hands knew exactly what to do. The price was reasonable to begin with, but they have a 6 package special which brings it down to the "I'm getting a massage every other week at this place" category. I came upon a recommendation from a pal, who is very picky about massage. This place is legit: clean, professional, and open late! read more

Good massage but they demand tips. They contacted me nearly 24 hrs after service to demand a tip when I delayed sending it via Venmo.

Love it. It's a super massage! Easy to book and professional. Helps w relaxation and muscle recovery. read more

This place is okay. It does the job. The day I went, I had to share a room with a grumpy female customer, and she ruined my experience. I think that room is usually used for couple's massages. They separated our beds with a curtain. I heard her every complaint and grunt, and I hated it. Thank goodness my massage therapist barely talked to me because any more talking from anyone and I would have left. The massage itself was pretty good. The massage therapist used firm pressure. She made sure to ask how the pressure was from time to time in case I wanted her to use more or less pressure. This place is pretty nice inside and offers separate rooms. Just keep in mind that they may put you in a couple's room to be shared with someone else. Lastly, it is located in the same building as the Avalon apartment I think, but towards the back, right side of the building. read more

They have the wrong address listed online and as well on maps making the place impossible to find. When calling, they stated that the place is in a mall which was not depicted on the site. Not to mention they told us the wrong floor when it was no where to be found. Overall NOT a good experience and will not be recommending this place to anyone. read more

I ended up coming here when I experienced soreness after exercising--i was able to get a same day appointment on a Friday evening, such a relief! And, the price is quite reasonable especially compared to some other places. I got a massage that was basically a deep tissue massage. Like, deep deep. Like, you might want to scream during the midst of it deep. But I could feel some knots in my shoulders being worked through, and at the end of it I felt much better than when I started. I really don't have anything bad to say about the experience, so I'll just give it a 5. read more

Came in for a late massage and it was not good. They didnt give me the full time and only had a $5 bill and a $20 bill. So i tried to tip them the $5 and leave but they locked the doors and i was the last appt so i was alone. They asked me to read the sign that requests a 20% tip and demanded more $. I caved seeing as I was alone and locked in and had to ask for my $5 back and give them the $20 bill. I asked for change but they pretended not to hear and just opened the door to let me out. Would not recommend this place as tips shouldn't be compulsory! Pay your workers enough so they don't have to threaten customers! read more

This is my go-to massage place if I don't want to leave the neighborhood. The staff is always friendly and the massages are adequate. The prices are beyond reasonable. Great place for a massage, I had an hour long Swedish Massage and it was amazing. Would definitely come/back to this place.

Sunny is amazing! I have had a couple of massages with her and she knows the trigger points without you telling anything or much less. I feel a considerable difference in my body after having a massage with her. She uses some combination of reflexology, deep massage and trigger point, etc. with any massage. The point is, she wants to heal you, not just focus on technique. I love her approach to doing her best for the client! The place is very professional and makes sure to follow COVID guidelines as well. read more

Ballston Therapeutic Massage - Couple's massage - Massage Therapy Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

I came to this location many, many times over the last three years that I was living in Arlington. Their prices are great, and Sunny is the absolute best. That said, I made appointments both online and over the phone in which I specifically requested a female masseuse. Back in 2018/2019 before coming here, I had read multiple reviews on yelp in which customers said they requested a female masseuse but were given a male masseuse. For the first couple of times that I came, I did not have an issue. On multiple occasions though, no matter whether I had made the request online or over the phone, I was given a male masseuse (the same one each time.) I don't know what the situation is, but this is unfair both to your female masseuses and to your customers. If you don't want a male masseuse, my recommendation is to mentally prepare yourself to make this clear to the receptionist when you arrive. With this continuing issue in mind, I wouldn't necessarily recommend going here, unless you can get Sunny, even though the price and location is great. read more

I was skeptical initially coz of covid but the staff and the place is clean and taking precautions. I went in for a one hour deep tissue massage. I had few tight knots on my shoulders, neck region and Leo fixed them really good. I really enjoyed the way he worked on my neck Nd back. I am surely coming back again for another session with Leo. He really understands the muscle structure and exactly work on the pressure/trigger areas. Highly recommend him! read more

3.5 stars. Positives: 1. Great specials 2. Very friendly staff 3. Excellent (for the most part) massages, paid extra for the hot stone massage and that portion was the best element of any massage I have ever had. Done extremely well! They also did a wonderful job of covering the entire body and focusing on requested problem areas. Areas of concern: 1. A lot of the rooms face the street (I believe rooms 1-7) and you could hear everything cars, sirens, people talking, which really interrupted the full relaxation of the massage 2. A lot of the technique utilized elbows, I hadn't really encountered this in past massages and I have to admit it was painful, I asked for a bit lighter mid massage but wasn't really obliged, so there were absolutely times when I just wanted it to be over 3. I registered for a couples massage but after we said (prompted) we were sisters, the couples rate was not honored and we were charged the individual rate, which I guess is ok... though I feel couple is more about the shared space and not the relationship status. 4. They validate parking at the $1 lot which is 0.4 miles from the shop and not the lot right next door which is $4 on weekends. It's a nice idea but not really worth the inconvenience. Ultimately, the price was still very good and the experience was worth it. I would return for a light (instead of medium) pressure hot stone massage, request no elbows, and to be placed in room 8 or above. I would also verify the cost before I started the massage and probably come only on a weekend or a day I was up for a walk as the garage is normally $11+. read more

I'm not going to lie, I've had some mixed experiences here - twice have been great, and twice were a miss (but I am partly to blame). I think the key to getting a great massage here is asking for the right person, but if you're new, being very clear about what you want to BOTH the front desk person and the masseuse, and getting confirmation that they understand what you're asking for. The deep tissue I received yesterday was phenomenal. I usually have a harder time finding a good massage place because I don't like laying on my front side and need an extra pillow to squeeze under my neck/arms to support my front side (usually the hardest thing to communicate). I had my massage with a woman named Judy, although I'm not positive that was her name.. there was some confusion and I had a hard time communicating with the front desk woman on whether that was her name. I told them my upper back was my major problem spot, and that I needed about 70% of the massage to be spent there. Then, my calves and arms which were sore from working out. I've always hated massages where they spent too much time in areas that don't feel good/ don't have muscles that need massaging (ie lower back). She spent the perfect amount of time on my upper back like I had asked, and I could really feel the work she put into it. She put in 110% and was easily the best feeling massage I've received. I left her a nice tip and it was more than well deserved. $69 for an hour, $64 if you pay in cash (or was it $65?). read more

After getting a massage last time at Ballston Therapeutic Massage Arlington, I learned from the cashier at the front desk that there is also a branch on the 1st floor in the Ballston Mall across the street, So on the first long weekend in September, we went to this branch for 90 minutes of Couples massage (i.e. 60 minutes body massage + hot stone and 30 minutes foot massage). ) When the massage is complete, we immediately feel the full relaxation of the muscles throughout the body (especially the shoulders, neck and entire back, which I think is due to the use of the hot stone). The walk on both feet is a little lighter than usual. Here are my compliments to both the massagers [ThumbsUp] The massager's massage was very vigorous. We highly recommend this massage shop to friends who love to pamper themselves. This massage shop is really good. They are said to have 5 branches. We have experienced 3 branches so far and they are all good. The style and design of the shop is basically similar. The massage rooms are clean and bright. We love this massage environment. read more

While it wasn't the worst massage ive ever had and it was only $64 for an hour, the experience was not relaxing. I showed up 10 mins early for my apt and the front desk woman seemed frantic. Next thing I know I am being told to follow an employee...and she heads outside with no explanation. Apparently they ran out of space we had to walk to their location in the mall. Once the massage started, I could hear everything in the hall way and the lady doing my message felt rushed. When an hour was up a kitchen like timer went off, she said thanks and walked out of the room....needless to say, if you can afford it and truly need a relaxing treatment, don't come here. I gave it 3 stars vs 1 or 2 because the place was clean, the woman did work some knots out and the price can't be beat. read more

If you want a true "therapeutic" massage, this is not the place for you. This is the worst massage I have ever had in life. I purchased the Groupon a few weeks prior to the appointment and looked forward to the "trigger point massage." Time to work out all of my knots. Just pushing into my back with your palm for longer than one should, applying too much massage oil on my back ONLY and making it a slick mess and hardly massaging the oil in. Maybe 5 strokes from my upper to lower back. Maybe. Never massaging my arms or legs, just pulling twice on my arms and three times on my legs. At some point, I asked him to take his elbow out of my back. How long are you going to leave it there? And, that's not where the knot is located. I've never had to ask a massage therapist to actually do actual massaging. Use your hands, sir. But.......NO. I kept telling myself to get up from the table. I'm still not sure why I didn't. 60 minutes later, I'm furious and I'm also mad at myself for wasting those precious minutes. Now, getting massages is not my first rodeo. It won't be my last. But, I will never visit this location or refer a friend to it. Yes, I informed the front desk person the massage was awful. She offered to have someone else massage me, if I had the time. I simply could not chance it. What I experienced was NOT a massage. I can't even categorize it as a proper rub down. I was beyond disappointed. read more

Please believe, this place only gets three starts because the staff is soooooo nice!! They offered me water as soon as I arrived and helped me pick out which aromatherapy oil, I would use. Initially, I had a rough time locating this place; it is at the back of the 850 N Randolph building, at the intersection of Randolph and Stafford. After a stressful YEAR, it was time for me to get a much needed massage. A close friend recommend this spot and his "girl", Jessica. As cute and sweet as Jessica was, she just didn't hit the mark for me. However, she gave me the best back rub, I have ever had. Too bad, I didn't pay her for a back rub. From this experience, I realize that we all have different definitions of what a good massage is. Still on a mission to find a great massage at a decent price. read more

I recently experienced my first massage at BTM and it was WONDERFUL. They are very professional, their spa is absolutely gorgeous, and my masseuse, Lily, did a great job on working the knots out of my back. She said I needed to stop working so hard at the office! But we all know that's hard to do. So, i've decided that i'll be coming to BTM on a regular basis. Plus, you CANNOT beat the price! In the past, I've been to Massage Envy and paid the yearly contract. I've been to Red Door Salon in Tysons, and i've even had massages at Ritz Carlton in Georgetown. Of course the last two were very expensive and I still didn't have the best massage in the world. Massage Envy is like a clinic. You pay for an hour but they seemed to always short me by 15 mins. Plus, they work like a massage clinic. They lacked the ambiance of a massage spa. If you really want a great massage and not pay and arm and a leg, check out BTM. It's worth it! read more

Ballston Therapeutic Massage - Massage Therapy Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

Recently visited this location on my visit to Virginia to spend time with my daughter. I researched the location on yelp first as well before I booked our appointments. The location has no street parking but there ya a lot nearby. However, The lot nearby is $14 for one hour. Upon arrival, we were greeted right away and requested to complete forms. The receptionist advised at that time, that parking is available in the mall lot for $3.00. They should provide this information on their website. The online booking process was simple and they will text and/or email you to confirm your appointments. The location also offers lots of massage specials and Groupon offerings. The waiting area is very welcoming and calm. The massage room was very clean and serene. I booked massages for me, my daughter and my son. Now here comes the not do good part, the masseuse was not compromising. She asked me to let her know if I felt uncomfortable at any time and as she started digging into my upper back with her elbow I started to feel excruciating pain. I asked her to stop and she continued. I literally had to remove her arm and hands. Needless to say, I am still in pain and I had the massage over two weeks ago. I contacted the location and they offered a replacement massage but I was too afraid. Maybe it was just me, maybe is was the masseuse but I will never go there again. I have received massages all my life and I have never experienced this before. read more

Ballston Therapeutic Massage did the right thing. After my initial experience, they offered a complimentary massage with Leo, the trigger point therapist. Leo is great. Five stars. He's wonderful for those super tight muscles. I left the review at four stars for two reasons. First, my initial experience. Second, they have a practice that varies from most other massage therapy providers. At every other provider I use (I've been to at least five around here), you are shown to your massage room with your therapist. You meet the therapist, and s/he asks about your body and where you would like the therapist to work. Then the therapist steps out, you take off your clothes and you position yourself underneath the sheet. Then the therapist returns and the massage begins. Here, the front desk person shows you to your room, asks about what you put on the intake form, and then instructs you to undress and place yourself face down on the table. You do not really meet your therapist nor do you have a real conversation about your body with the therapist. That's how my first massage started, no introductions, no conversation, and a harsh start with full pressure immediately. I hope they change that practice. Note: I already went back to Leo for a second massage. He is great. read more

If you're someone who values communication with your massage therapist about body issues using appropriate technical terms such as "tight myofascia" and "deep tissue work", "go gently on this spot" then this establishment might NOT work for you. On the other hand if all you really want is a good rub down, preferably by a lovely Asian woman with strong fingers, then this spot might work for you. My therapist gave non-comprehending responses when I told her I had tight myofascia in my legs (the skin-like covering over muscles that can get rigid and cause stiffness and muscle injuries/sprains). She proceeded to giggle when I asked her to go gently. This non-comprehending response to basic communication on body issues is NOT ACCEPTABLE when you are naked and getting treated for said body issues! The therapist also put an enormous amount of pressure on kneading a tight spot on my upper back, which is an aggravating, not a trained, nuanced way of dealing with knots. My problem with this establishment was that due to the communication hurdles, I honestly didn't feel like I was dealing with licensed therapists who offer physiological understanding of body issues and have background in therapeutic techniques. In addition, the coverings, while you are on the table, were not professionally done...seemed more loose. In contrast I felt like this place would work for someone who just wants a thorough rub down. No for me. read more

This place is very good, and open late. At my first (and so far only) massage, I saw a man named Kevin. And let me tell you that Kevin can give a proper shiatsu massage. At one point he shared that he lived in Japan for many years, which is where he learned shiatsu. I could really tell that he cares deeply about massage and technique. Maybe that is why he did such a great job; I can't say for sure but it's nice to meet people who have a passion for what they do! read more

I bought a groupon for this place since it was right next to my apartment and I wanted to try it out. When I called to schedule my appointment, I could barely understand the receptionist! She couldn't even pronounce "Ballston Therapeutic Massage" correctly. It was fine though, she got my appointment right when I showed up. I went to the bathroom before my appointment and it was nice and clean so I started my session with a good impression of the place. I don't know the name of the lady I had, but she did a really great job! I had been feeling a lot of tension in my shoulders and upper back. Since I don't get massages often, it kind of hurt (and still a little the next day), but felt great afterwards! Since I'm the kind of person who builds up shoulder tension and has chronic back pain, this is a great place for me. They always have deals, so you rarely have to pay full price. I would love to try the reflexology too. read more
