One of the girls helped me choose makeup for my skin tone and style, and I've been using the same products ever since! They have a large selection of makeup and Sephora is great with returns. I can't tell the difference between one Sephora location and another in terms of available products, interior design, etc. What really makes the difference for me are the people and Sephora, Walnut Creek is so lucky to have Cayla on the team; she is super knowledgeable and personable. I've been to other locations where associates can seem indifferent, detached and downright condescending. Add to this atmosphere an absolutely overwhelming number of options and I oftentimes find myself just ordering products from the safety of my laptop. This past Monday, I stopped by for a one-on-one makeup appointment and explained that I was looking to find a fairly simple, everyday look where the focus was on a clear complexion and a subtle smokey eye. Cayla began by asking me what kind of foundation coverage I was looking for and finish (I chose medium coverage with a semi-glowy finish). Before heading off to grab products, she asked if I was allergic to anything (I'm not). A few minutes later she was back and got started. I truly appreciate that she took her time to not just apply things, but to also explain what she was doing. I'm a total beginner when it comes to makeup and had a ton of questions. She answered each one thoroughly, but also concisely. At the end of the appointment, I was super happy with the look and all the tips and techniques she shared. I had such a positive experience that I was more than willing to purchase everything she used, but she helped to talk me down from the ledge on a couple of items (e.g., smaller sized Laura Mercier setting powder rather than committing to a full one, etc.). I'm super intimidated going into a store like this because I know literally nothing about this stuff but I saw something I wanted. I walked in and was immediately greeted by 2 very friendly people. The store was packed with customers & screaming kids, strollers & dogs & I was freaking out. Every employee was so nice & helpful. They were so chill even with all the people in there. The line was long & moved fast. When it was my turn the cashier was perfect too! Quick but didn't make me feel rushed. They are all impeccably trained & nailed it. I was running errands in the area and needed to buy a MAC makeup brush. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. Ashley in the Anastasia section helped me out. She explained that nearly all cosmetic brushes are now cruelty free. Sephora doesn't carry the MAC line but they have plenty of others. I bought the Anastasia brush and it's been great! But I do miss the softness from the MAC brush - I had no idea that it was made of sable! Ugh, the awful things we do in the name of beauty. Go see Ashley. I had to run an errand here the other day and decided to drop by to get some more of my favorite super goop sunscreen. I was a little nervous because I don't really wear make up so places like this aren't necessarily a store I feel comfortable or taken seriously in. I realized I also needed some moisturizer and decided to check out some of the options. I ended up asking one of the sales associates for help and she was so amazingly attentive and helpful. She listen to my needs (I wanted a good moisturizer for my combination skin, that would work with everything else I have going on: I use retinoids and an AHA exfoliant several times a week, am getting laser hair removal, and to top it off have some rosacea). She listened to my laundry list of issues, asked great follow up questions, and showed me a few products that would work. I was initially thinking about Farmacy's honey pot but I ended up going with one of the ones she recommended (in addition to Farmacy) - the Youth to the People moisturizer. I just tried it for the first time and love it. Minus one star because I had to literally chase down the sales associate and wait creepily while she finished helping someone else. Somehow no one asked me if I needed any help. Overall this really shifted how I feel about Sephora and I will definitely come back next time I need something. read more

I love this location because they keep a good amount of staff. There's always employees coming around to check on customers which is really nice. Only thing I don't like about this location is how they have brand ambassadors that can get a little pushy with sales. When I'm here I just want to vibe and they've definitely kept me from purchasing items I came for just to avoid walking past them again. read more

WORST SEPHORA EVER DO NOT COME HERE. Customer service was absolutely horrible--the manger in one word is just plain out lazy. I had asked my for my receipt to be emailed (the employee did not ask to confirm my email address) and when I got home I saw it was not in my inbox. I remembered that the email associated with my account was one I did not use anymore so I called to ask for my email to be updated and after being passed around from employee to employee who were all clueless I ended up speaking with the "security" of all people... He had informed me that the manager was "busy" but she said I had to come in to the store (during SHELTER IN PLACE...okay sounds not right to me???) to change my email because it's "against store policy" After hanging up I called the Sephora in Berkeley and they were able to change it for me within 1 minute no questions asked. I have never bought anything here. The reason for this is simple, the atmosphere is weird. All their workers wear black and have headphones in their ear like the CIA. They skulk around and theres at least ten of them at any time in the store. It makes my feel uncomfortable and unwilling to let my guard down and shop. It's not even like Nordstrom which has people ask you if you need anything every 2 minutes, it's just kinda weird and has the feel that you're on stage. I had my make-up done by JuJu on 1-26-23. She did a great job, and I really liked all the products she used. She was open to my preferences, and I left the store happy with my experience. I purchased several products that I knew I did not have at home or were better than what I had been using. I have a ton of products at home that I needed to weed through and discard what I didn't need or like before I completed my purchase. I kept asking JuJu about writing down the products she was using so I could come back today (1-29-23) and purchase the rest of the products that I didn't currently have - or were preferable to what I had. She assured me several times that she would email the list to me, but I never got it! Now what? The review would have been 5 stars and I would have purchased more if I just got the list of products she used. I placed a same-day delivery order from this store and I paid extra for a specific delivery window. It's now been 24 hours since my delivery window and my order still hasn't been processed. But because it's "in process," the customer service rep's at Sephora I've wasted more of my weekend talking to than it would've taken me to drive down to the store and shop in-person can't do anything to cancel or check on my order. All they keep telling me to do is call the store and have them cancel it. Well I tried that and the moron who answered the phone told me to cancel online (which is not an option, and I told her that), and then she hung up. So I've now paid a ton for the same-day delivery of a product I have not received and am unable to cancel or get an update on, and I've wasted half a day on customer service, who offered no solution. read more

Like people, pets and posterior exercises, different makeup stores serve different purposes. Ulta is my go-to when I'm looking for a bargain but don't need a specific brand (as there are quite a few they don't carry), while Sephora is more my speed when I'm trying to utilize their rewards program (which I'm a card-totin' member of) but also in search of one of the more widely-known brands they keep in stock. Most makeup stores claim to keep skilled makeup aficionados on deck for your questions who are able to provide demonstrations of products you hope to purchase, but I've had a lot more success with Sephora's "pros" than those elsewhere. Of course, the beauty rep you end up with can vary wildly from time of day, your karmic juju (I mean, duh), the axis upon which the moon is tilting, etc. And by that unpredictable and insane formula, I ended up with this heartbreakingly sweet but incredibly uneducated male associate last week. His blonde hair beckoned but his knowledge of bronzer absolutely failed me and I went back to work looking like Pig-Pen from the Charlie Brown series: absolutely dusty, dirty and downtrodden. If nothing else, he showed me how NOT to apply bronzer. But if you're not a young woman with the makeup skills of a 7-year-old high on Dippin' Dots with Parkinson's thrown in the mix, you can probably make your makeup purchases at Sephora without the help of an associate--and you won't even have to look like Pig-Pen afterwards! read more

Luckily, the store allows you to purchase outside if you know exactly what you are getting! I showed the employee outside what I needed and a runner ran out the item. I always find myself stopping by this Sephora while runnings errands in Walnut Creek. Location is convienent and parking is easy as there are several free parking structures nearby. Compared to other Sephora locations, this one is on the smaller side, but it still offers a large variety of products. Also, this Sephora is not as busy as other locations, which I LOVE! Customer service is fairly good as most of the employees I have encountered were friendly and helpful, especially when making suggestions and recommendations. Overall, a fan of this location and will continue to shop here for all my beauty products! read more

I was in there Saturday morning I normally go to the concord store but since i was in Walnut Creek decided to go in. As soon as I walked in there was an older woman in her 60's who was a greeter all she did was stare im the one who had to say hi to her she did not even say a word to me. A girl behind me said wow isnt she supposed to greet people as there walking in I said guess not. That older women was very rude. There was other employees there just standing around and did not even acknowledge me or asked if I needed help. After 10 minutes I finally just walked out. I walked into this Sephora to browse and felt immediately uncomfortable from the moment I walked in. Of course I was greeted by the associate managing the front of the store, but as I walked through the store I noticed more and more sales associates watching me. Mind you I was dressed normally and came with friend, nothing out of the ordinary here.... Immediately I felt I was being watched, but not in a friendly manner, despite the standard "is there anything I can help you with" lines from associates. I was clearly being watched by associates. As I made my way through the aisle to meet my friend (mind you I had no merchandise in my hands) I opened my purse to put my phone away and noticed the sales associate carefully watching my hand and purse monitoring my every movement. But it wasn't just the associate in the aisle that was watching me, it felt like there were several others the more corners I turned and areas of the store I looked. Why did it feel like they were always watching my hands? As I left the store with my friend she admitted she felt like she was being watched even though we went shopping our separate ways. I'm glad to know I was not the only one feeling like that. Honestly felt like some racial profiling. What a shame considering Sephora just had their diversity training after the whole Sza incident this month. Clearly the WC location must've missed out on that training.... won't be coming here again. I definitely don't think anyone should have to feel like their being watched in the store because of the color of their skin. As a loyal Sephora customer I left not only uncomfortable but also disappointed that they would even dare racially profile any of their customers. I guess some places and people are not above that. I love this place. Every time I go, the staff is so incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about ALL the products. Today was a great day, I had a member of the staff change my entire look. I haven't been this excited to do my make up in a long time. They showed me techniques by drawing it out, and helped me pick better products for my oily skin. As soon as I walked in the store I kept being followed by the manager. I felt like I was being treated like a shoplifter. I had two items to purchase but changed my mind on one of them and put it back. When I was being rung up she came out of nowhere and she asked me about the second item. I told her I put it back. For the beauty and makeup lover this is your place, just be prepared to navigate the journey alone. I have been to this location on several occasions, and I rarely have been asked if I needed assistance. The associates are nice and friendly, but with all of the makeup & beauty options it can be a bit overwhelming so some help would be appreciated. The exception would be Haley that I usually see in the fragrance area. Haley's customer service A-1. She asks the questions to find a fragrance to your liking. There was a fragrance I liked that didn't come in a rollerball, so she helped me to find a similar scent that did come in a rollerball. She always goes the extra mile. You can find most any beauty product here, just wish the service was consistent. read more

The girls that work here are either absolutely incompetent or just plain lazy. The customer service is atrocious. During the Sephora sale in April, I ordered a Lancome foundation for my mother and had it sent to her address in California. Lancome recently changed their foundation numbering/lettering, so I accidentally ordered the wrong shade for my mother. I told my mom to just go exchange it at the Broadway Plaza Sephora. My mother went to the Broadway Plaza location, 15 days after the purchase was made, with the foundation and the receipt. She needed to get a color scan and/or figure out what the correct shade is now. My mother told the employee she wanted to figure out the correct shade and exchange the foundation. First, the employee didn't want to, or said she didn't know if they could do an exchange because it was bought during the sale. What the heck does that have to do with anything? The return and exchange policy is clearly written online as well as on the back of the receipt my mother had in her hand. I've made exchanges for the same product in a different shade many times! The Sephora policy allows for returns and exchanges of items purchased online in any Sephora store within 60 days of the purchase. Apparently the women that work there don't know their own policies! The girls were being difficult about this, and were trying not to help my mother at first, with doing the color match, because of the excuse about the sale and exchanges. Then, they had to get a manager to see about exchanging it. Finally, they insisted on charging her tax despite the fact that this was an exchange - all this nonsense to get $0.23 from her! Talk about horrible customer service wasting her time and giving her grief. To top it all off they added my mother's shade/color profile in my account instead of my mother's account! This is because they, once again, wouldn't listen to her when she was saying she should give them her phone number rather than mine. Sephora employees aren't what they once were - at least not at Broadway Plaza where the customer service is at an all-time low and it takes two or three heads to equal one full brain. Imagine the time and frustration that could have been saved if they had well-trained employees, versed in store policies, that knew how to provide good customer service. read more

It seems like Sephora has taken a cue from the Apple store across the way because now they offer mobile check out anywhere in the store -- you don't even need to stand in line at the cash wrap! This is a win-win for both the client and the retailer. Customers can select and pay for items quicker, while the store can process impulse purchases and generate more revenue ; o ) I still contend that customer service is easier to get on a weekday during the day or evening versus during the busier weekend shopping rush. Rave for Jessica who managed to squeeze me in when I was 30 minutes late to my appointment (eeekk) thanks to my WC Dry Bar appt running so behind (ughhh...I was stressing!)! When I arrived everyone was so friendly, sweet & accommodating. Jessica glam'd me up in 30ish minutes and I feel so pretty as I prepare for my maternity photoshoot! I specifically requested to look bronzed up, not pale or ghostly, and she totally delivered. Never used my VIB benefits before (free makeover) and I'm so glad I finally did.
