The only thing that makes me give this location 2 stars is the helpful and very nice staff I dealt with the last time I visited. One time. Just this once. Every other visit I have made has been terrible with rude staff that could care less about your existence or feel that you are about to shoplift.
Now, I don't usually dress up when I go into Sephora because when I have the chance to go, i'm just in and out because i'm with someone and I ask them to just drop me off momentarily so I can run in and out. That said, I can't leave the house without my base makeup of foundation, eyebrows, contour and mascara. My 'dress down' clothes are Chrome Hearts and Rick Owens, and whenever I go in there I get tailed like i'm going to shoot up the store. Uh?
The reason i'm writing this however is not because of the uncomfortable tailing, but because of the returns. I had heard good things about the return policy, and is why I wanted to test out some items at home a few times before making a solid decision. (Since you know, trying something out at the store and actually using it - two v.different things). I usually am a fan of using Chanel, but I had decided to try a different brands powder foundation since a friend had recommended it. I bought this off of Sephora.com, and it did not work with me at all. I even tried it another time, and it just kept making me flakey and giving me a few red spots - this isn't Sephoras fault of course since I have extremely sensitive skin, and I was just glad I was able to return it to the store.
Once I made it to the store, the entire place was packed, probably because of the holidays. While waiting in line I noticed a few salespeople helping specific people in the store while ignoring others, the type you wouldn't think to spend 'too much money' on looks alone, that is. Fine, whatever, it's a retail store so I understand that, but I did feel a bit uncomfortable because of it. Once I finally made it to the register, the lady helping me this day (not the good day that I give this place two stars for), the salesperson didn't seem to care about my problem, I asked if I could return the item and she said yeah it's fine, but it wasn't like she actually cared. Okay, whatever, as long as I can return the item, I guess. The transaction was completed and I went home.
That's when I noticed.... why is there a charge for the item i returned?
That's right. They charged me for the item I had just returned. A second charge. So not only did I not get my original payment back, but they actually charged me again for it. I didn't know that a little minus would appear if it was a refund (since i've never worked in retail in this country, so I thought the price shown was just a price being charged back onto your card). But my bank app told me otherwise.
So, since it is a little out of my way to go downtown since I can't drive (not being originally from here), and have social anxiety making public transportation very difficult, I went to the website to ask if they could please help check the transaction out, or at least check my account. I assumed they could do that, if the transactions are linked to your account... but the response I got was to go to my local Sephora. Sigh.
So I braved it and made my way downtown, not wanting to forget the issue before fixing it. This time I was greeted with very friendly staff members who were very helpful - not on my way in, or while looking around some before getting to the register, but only at the register. She called a manager (I believe) over who was also very friendly and helpful. They actually acted like they cared and apologized profusely for the problem. The only issue is - I heard that this 'charge instead of return' issue had happened before. 'It happens sometimes' but they don't know why. Now, I don't blame the workers for this of course (even though the previous one probably should have checked to see that there was no minus symbol that was later shown on my other two receipts I had received that day), but the company should definitely look into an issue like this if it's happened on more than one occasion!? For it to happen sometimes, must make that an issue? Anyway, I got out of there with two little face wash samples that I can't even use because they irritate my skin, and my receipts for my refund.
But of course, it doesn't end there.
I have not actually been refunded, and the second charge, and original charge are still there. I'm currently waiting on an e-mail from them, but the thought of having to go through getting there again and dealing with so many people again is really stressful. I've already wasted time and extra money for bus fare (albeit it not a lot, but it's the principal!) going there to fix a mistake -they- had made.
I want to return another item I purchased there because of it now, but i'm afraid they'll just charge me all over again.
TLDR; PLEASE CHECK YOUR RECEIPT CLOSELY TO SEE IF THE REFUND IS ACTUALLY A REFUND read more
