I called ahead and asked if this place takes walk ins and they don't usually. They accommodated me with their "apprentice" who I booked a mani and a pedi with. During my casual conversation with her I asked her how long she had been a nail technician for. She stated that she had been working for 2 years. She did the entire manicure dry without any soaking or cuticle remover. Only using an electronic file to clean up the cuticles. She took over 2 hours to do a basic manicure. The paint job took forever and I would have missed my flight back to LA had I stayed for the feet. Now this manicure was filled with numerous f-ups and flops. The bottle of matte top coat was chunky like oatmeal so she needed to repaint my pinky. Then she smudged nails that she had previously painted and they needed redos. She also dropped polish on the floor and it spilled. When I explained to her that I'd have to pass on the pedicure she took an attitude with me saying that I should have explained that to the receptionist ahead of time. To which I responded I've never had someone spend 2+ hours on my hands. My manicure started chipping within the hour cause paint bonded to the skin. This service was $31 with the apprentice. I could have done a better job on my own nails with paint and all at home for way less. I use to do nails and hair years ago at a men's salon when I was still practicing cosmetology. I wasn't offered a beverage, this service was pretty bare bones. I payed extra for a hot towel I feel the need to call out this sheer incompetence because if you're a paying client you don't deserve to go through that. Ive had way better even at a beauty college. I added another star because I feel like the other 2 nail technicians working there were doing some amazing and beautiful work. read more

The mani/pedi I got from Taleah was wonderful, and my hands and feet and nails are literally softer than they have ever been before. I live in neighborhood and always wanted to check this place. Alyna is my to go girl! She works very fast, professional and I was happy with the result. Place is very clean and chic. I love how many polish colors they have. I just love to sit back relax and choose colors. I cant wait to come when masks restrictions will be lifted. I know they sent me an email that in July masks restrictions will be lifted. Also, I wish they would bring back drinks because it makes you feel special. The space is clean and cute and is easy to locate! Also parking is free after 4 pm and on weekends and can be validated for 2 hours if outside of those times! If you're looking for great service with a very talented nail artist go and see Lena. She can do just about any type of design you want. She has a cute little private room in the studio so you feel comfortable and right at home. People have mentioned the pricing. They are higher than your normal nail salon but my nails lasted 3 weeks. It would have been longer if my nails wouldn't grow! The shellac stayed on and I'm rough on my hands so that's a huge compliment. Well worth it. Great location and easy to get to with parking. My first time at Refine. This is a beautifully appointed nail shop. Very modern. They don't have massage chairs but the chairs they do have look comfy and they are pretty cute too. The check in was quick, my nail artist, Kate was ready right away. She did a fantastic job and was a sweetheart to chat with. She helped me pick a puffy light blue color because my original color was a bit too nude. She was gentle and quick, I was only there for 45 minutes or so for my fill. I had a lovely experience here and intend to return. I will say that it's a bit expensive at $60 not including tip. The person I spoke with was not only rude to me but also did not know the availability of any of the nail technicians. I also did not like the fact that I heard a person just stop in to the shop and was able to just walk in whereas I was calling to try and make an appointment but wasn't even given the time of day. I can't rave enough about Refine Nails - this is the only nail salon that I go to now. I've gotten my nails done in Korea a bunch of times, so my expectations are pretty high when it comes to nail art, and those expectations were rarely met at any of the nail salons I've been to in the US. I'm so happy I found Refine (also at a location so close to home) because Toni and Shelley blow me away every time! First, the quality of nail polishes they have are top notch. I have been to cheaper nail salons where gel manicures cost ranging anywhere between $25-$40, but they always chipped away within a few days that I would have to get a new set pretty often. The first time I went to Refine, I got a regular gel manicure without design and it lasted almost two weeks without a single chip. After perusing through Toni and Shelley's Instagram (definitely check them out), I decided to get designs on multiple occasions, and I've been happy every single time. I usually bring designs that I see from Instagram, but to be honest, I think I'd be happy to have Toni and Shelley get creative without bringing a specific design. They're EXTREMELY talented! I have been coming to this salon consistently since things first started opening up. Their COVID procedures are top notch - you will get temperature checked and asked to wash your hands. Everything is sanitized. I usually get a pedicure and have had a manicure twice. The work is always good. My heels are soft and my toes are polished flawlessly. Once, my polish smudged badly within a day. I called the salon and they had me come back and fixed it at no charge. They also disposed of the nail polish as well. I thought this was pretty great customer service. I like that I can schedule my appointments online and I honestly go with whoever is available. Have not had a bad experience yet. Really disappointed with the pedicure here. I specifically made an appointment for the next tier of pedicure which included callus removal in the service description. Went for my pedicure on time, and right before my nail tech was going to apply the polish, I asked if they were going to file my calluses at all. The nail tech told me they don't perform any filing at all, which is baffling to me, since that's exactly what I booked for. I absolutely get salons that do a basic foot file and then charge extra for tough calluses. What I got was ZERO foot filing, so either that service description was wrong, or I didn't receive the service I booked and paid for. Total waste of $47 (excluding tips). Attention to detail was paid, conversation wasn't forced, and I received a wonderful foot massage. I also had a pleasant interaction with the person that checked me out after my appointment, Kleu. I was trying to use a visa gift card I had received for my birthday and it kept getting declined. I enjoy this nail salon because the staff are friendly and it is easy to make an appointment online. The nail care has always met standards and cleanliness. I have visited both the 7th ave location as well as the Dexter location. About a total of 4 visits. But my issue and the reason for the only 3 stars is that my gel manicures never last more than a week. I personally think it is because of the nail polish brand they carry, Kiara Sky. My most recent manicure lasted 5 days before a massive chip appeared. When I go to other salons who carry Opi gel polish, the manicure lasts anywhere from 2-3 weeks depending on how often I am cooking and cleaning. I hope you have better luck than I do :) read more

I've been here three times now, and booked this as the "the olive (built to last gel). My appointment was on september 24th. not even two weeks later and they are already chipping /peeling. I have an appointment for acrylics i two weeks and was told to schedule a "gel removal" appointment before hand bc this would still be on but that seems unlikely. I used to go to the Refine on 7th regularly and would give that location a 5 star review (thank you Merina!). I can't say I feel the same after today. I booked an appointment originally for 4PM for my usual (my regular was a pedicure and gel manicure every 4 weeks on a Friday). I booked with the salon at the completion of each appointment. When I called in to confirm, they informed me my appointment was no where to be found. This is a bit disappointing as I book 4 weeks out all the time to ensure my appointment and work the holiday weekend coming up, everywhere is booked. I spoke some more and asked if they could have improperly booked me under someone else but she just said there were no appointments with my profile. I asked to speak to a manager (apparently the manager is the receptionist) and she said she was. I mentioned the specific date I booked my appointment but this did not matter apparently, even though I booked directly with my service provider. I will not be going back to this location - it is unfortunate since I just found a place I liked after moving up here. read more
