I don't understand how this guy, the short guy with the medium tan skin tone, is the store manager?! His customer service sucks big time!!! I tried some products out for 4 days, but I had to return them because those products caused irritation on my skin. The manager was the one who helped me with my returns. He got some balls to tell me that I can't be buying products and returning them!! He got on my last nerve and he really pissed me out!! I straight up told him in his damn face that where in the hell did it say in Sephora's policy that I can't return any of the products if those products didn't work out for my skin!!! I returned those products less than a week, which was way within their 30 days return policy!!! I understand that they don't offer samples because of covid. Then they should understand that customers have the rights to buy whatever products that they want, and if for any reasons that the customers don't like the products, then they also have the rights to return them....if not, then how would customers know if any of those products work out for them or not?! I also told him that if he continues to provide lousy customer service, then people will never shop at this store, and that he should be grateful that there are loyal customers like me who spend our hard earned money and shops here because if it wasn't for us, he wouldn't be having a job!!! He then shut his mouth and refunded my money back, but he never apologized for his rude behavior! This guy has a bad attitude with no customer skills, and rude as hell!! The customer service is lacking at this store. I had a $11 travel make up remover that I purchased and the lid on it was not working. I spend $100's of dollars a year with this store and they would not exchange it for me. They told me that it is their store policy to not take returns if it was purchase at a Sephora store inside a JCPenny's without a receipt. Buyer be AWARE! If retail stores want customers to stop shopping on-line they need to provide a more positive in store experience. read more

This is my favorite Sephora location. I am always greeted by literally every worker here when I come into the store. I get approached on the floor by at least two workers checking in to see if I need any help or if I am looking for anything in particular. During checkout, I always have a good conversation with the cashier and they always mention my rewards and even hook it up with some samples every time. I've worked in retail and this store hits every retail point of customer service and sale! This location also carries Bobbi Brown products, which in other Sephora locations (i.e Serramonte, Stonestown, etc.) do not. They usually have products in stock and if not, they often assist in ordering online or checking in the back. Other locations I've been to normally come with a response with "whatever we have out is what we have in stock...*smiles*" without even glancing at what I'm asking for! I live much closer to other Sephoras such as the Sephora in Stonestown in SF, but I take the drive out here to purchase products (and of course for Bobbi Brown products) because of their exceptional customer service when I visit. read more

I love Sephora, just not this location. I tried it several times and on almost all occasions was ignored by staff. I had to scour the store to find an employee who wasn't occupied doing their own makeup and/or willing to help me. It's so weird because the Burlingame employees seem really checked out when most other Sephora locations are full of employees who love beauty and are extremely knowledgable. They are incredibly stingy with samples at this location which is a shame because 1. I am not trying to take them for a ride and be a total cheapskate 2. I actually spend lots of money on the right products. Sephora's entire store policy and approach is the reason I'm such a fan. What's the deal with this one? This place really is hit or miss in terms of customer service. Frankly, I expect better from a high-end cosmetics store. The fact that so many people have already said "wow, the salespeople here can be really snippy/grumpy/inattentive" shows that whoever manages these people has lost sight of the fact that it can be very daunting to find the right product and that good customer assistance is important. I go here only when I've researched a product extensively online first and read other peoples' reviews. It's only after I know exactly what it is I'm looking for that I'll go there and ask for it. It's sad that I have to rely on a machine to give me better information than an actual person. My bad experiences were with a pushy saleswoman who was simply ignoring my cues to buzz off and a gal at the register who was really snooty. The first one saw me as a commission with legs, and the other girl? I have no idea. She looked like one of those types whose star shined brightest while in high school. Sales associates at this location are frequently hanging around which makes it really frustrating when you need to quickly check out and you see them around the store perimeters joking around with one another. More than a few times I have walked in needing to purchase items but walked out due to the long line or the frustration I felt waiting in line. I will say that this is a consistent problem at this location.. especially for someone like me that hates shopping or buying beauty products to begin with. I try to avoid this location as much as I can but occasionally stop in when I am working around the area on lunch break to hopefully grab and go. read more

I don't usually shop at makeup places but the people working were so friendly and nice I showed them the list I was given and they helped me right away. I would've been lost had they not helped me. I like this Sephora even though it's smaller than other locations. I went to the Sephora at Westfield Valley Fair two times last month to try to redeem my free birthday gift but the gift was out of stock both times. I went to the Sephora on Burlingame Ave last night and the free birthday gift was in stock!!! I was so happy and excited!! Also, there was no line for the cashier when I visited the store and the cashier was super sweet and friendly. Sephora Burlingame has all of the basics that I might need, but I prefer going to the Sephora at Stanford Shopping Center because the sales girls are so much more helpful and pleasant. I swear the girls at the Burlingame store always seem to be a little bit grumpy or look almost angry. I haven't found many of them to be very personable. Maybe it's just the way some of the girls do their eyebrows. Today I went to Sephora to buy a train case. The sales girl was trying to shove it into a medium size bag that I think most sensible people would know right away was too small. Helloo? If you can go to another Sephora than avoid this one. This Burlingame Sephora location is always under stocked. If you're looking for something specific you probably won't find it here. They never have my MUFE hd foundation number and they don't carry Amazing Concealer Magic Eraser. I always end up disappointing myself when i'm looking for a certain item from their website like Dr. Jart's new US BB cream line and I end up going home empty handed. Giving 3 stars because I shop here pretty often and have never had a problem. However I went here today and asked for a sample of loose powder and was told that it wouldn't fit in their sample containers. When I told the worker that I've gotten loose powder samples from other locations before, she replied "oh...you have??" in a slightly sarcastic tone. It's great going to Sephora but it's not great getting bombarded by sales people who have to ask every other minute, "do you need help?" I do appreciate the idea behind Sephora and I miss the Sephora of the olden days back in Paris with beautiful knowledgeable people that were just the face of beauty-literally. If you actually do need help though, their people have no clue about make-up and skin products which kind of disappoints me as this is suppose to be the mecca of all that which is bee-u-tee-ful. Nope. These people can barely live up to their high school diplomas here. "Excuse me, do you have comparable brushes to Shu Uemura?" "What's that?" Eeeee... And they've really got to keep this place cleaner. There's nasty greasy streaks of makeup and lotion everywhere. This location is great . . . the store is big and lots of brands to choose from. The staff is helpful but not overbearing and in your face. Actually, if I say just looking - they never bug me again. I recently hosted an after hours party for the San Bruno Mothers Club there and it was a hit! The staff was helpful, did our make-overs, showed us cool products and just let us mingle. We loved it! I shop at Sephora a lot and I have been to many locations. I will say that every time I have come into this location the staff has been friendly. The other day I was in there and I had some self tanner in my basket and one of the girls came over with a sample of some exfoliator she said would be nice to use before the self tanner. Keep in mind, I didn't ask for a sample at all. I really appreciated that. I had a return and there was no drama returning it and the staff was very helpful and understanding. This location does not carry Too Faced and is a little bit of a smaller store, but the staff here is not intimidating like other locations and always eager to help customers. I loooove Sephora. It's an awesome store with awesome things, but I think unless you know what you want going in.....ya it's a pain. I've never really received that great of customer service while here. One day I was looking for the "perfect" red lipstick and I actually asked some one for help. And yup, I didn't really get any. The guy just was like, here this company has some great red lipsticks and bolted. Now I know that everyone wants to wear red and being that I'm a fair skinned beauty with dark hair, it shouldn't be that hard for me to find a decent red, but geeze! I didn't want to be left alone, since I knew I didn't want to blow $25 on a lipstick and not be happy. It's the best sephora in the Bay Area :) The staff is nice, with good advices ( which is really rare at sephora in general !) If you say that you don't want something expensive they easily help you to find the perfect thing that you need. I went in last Saturday to exchange a perfume I had bought online. I went right up to the door greeter. I asked her about the exchange and she just said ok. Ok what? No smile no direction. I had to ask her should I go to the register? Again... just one word "yeah". This is why when the damn employees approach me I just want them to leave me alone. Good selection of olfactory products - both for men and women - and a fairly good selection of skin care products for men. I cannot speak for the women's selection. Service is good as with most Sephoras. One thing I will note however.. those walkie talkies disturb me. The problem is non-existent at this location because of how small it is, but at the Valley Fair store, you may notice the associates and their ear pieces, tracking you around. It's both amusing and creepy. ---- Edit: upgrade of +1 (from four) stars for a kind reply from a manager. Totally unnecessary but above and beyond. Extremely busy store, but never has it ever deviated from anything but unfriendly and helpful in all the times I've stepped foot in there. Stanford Sephora - take note, ok? Despite the fact street parking can be a little stressful and the parking lot provided can also be stressful, stepping in here to be greeted with smiles and friendly sales staff makes spending here so much better. On the whole out of all the Sephoras I've been to, this is my favorite one. The store is a bit smaller than what I would like it to be, but at least they carry the nail polish and other cosmetic brands I tend to buy. read more

Not only can I get my favorite skin care and make up products as I usually do, but every employee at the Sephora in Burlingame is knowledgeable. Ok I think this location has waken up by the bad reviews for awhile. So I went back looking abit different then my past vist. This time I walked in the lady greeted me. There were 2 other people if I wanted help. I said I was looking. So after that I was left alone finally. I was able to shop and bought 2 items that I needed. I came in yesterday to return a couple of items, but decided to look around the store beforehand. While browsing around, I was approached by their employees two or three separate times, asking if I needed help or to let them know if I needed anything. Super friendly! When I went to the cash register to return my items, the lady there was super nice and there wasn't any trouble at all. I didn't have the receipt for one of the products, but she just used my beauty insider card to pull up the information. I think they normally ask for ID if you don't have a receipt, so I was surprised that they could just use that BI card. Anyway, AMAZING return policy. My cousin (visiting from out of town) and I visited this Sephora at around noon on a Sunday. We were greeted then patiently waited on as we compared and scrutinized what we were looking for. Natalie and Alex were stars! Natalie even demonstrated how she did her eye makeup (which was amazing!). The only hting I'd change is the amount of staff available to help customers. A few times our girl said she would go get a product, then she'd stop along the way to help others. Sephora Burlingame and Loren saved the day!! I had to go to a wedding a couple of Saturdays ago and another makeup artist cancelled on me the night before! I called Sephora and at first they said they don't have anyone able to start until 12PM. I had to be at the wedding at 3PM... I wonder if I'm ruining my credibility since this is my fifth 4-star review. In a row. But this is really an average of my experiences here, one AMAZING TIME and a bunch of decent times. Staff are always very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Never had a problem with getting samples. The only things I don't like are parking and that it seems like... Well, to be very honest, the younger staff who seem to be around my age are super sweet and will leave you alone more if you seem to just be looking around, but are still very informative. However, some of the staff who are older than me are more aggressive when it comes to asking if I need help, and I actually feel very pressured to buy lots of pricey products by them, expensive things I don't really need. Some examples: The very first time I came here was years ago, when I was pretty much some fresh-faced kid who only wore makeup whenever she was in a theatre production. I went to have a makeup consultation because I was going to a ball and knew pretty much nothing about makeup then. The other day, I went to simply find a nice, skin tone-evening foundation. I already take a bajillion years to get ready and leave the house, so in both situations, I really would have been better off with a couple of basics. As I said, the first time, I hardly knew anything about cosmetics, including their cost, so I was shocked when my total ended up around 200 bucks or something because the consultant just grabbed what seemed then like some reasonable products without me being informed of their prices. This time also, I just was hoping for a one step, slap this on, run out the door kind of product. The consultant who helped me with Fresh foundation today insisted I need bronzer additionally. The foundation, although great stuff, already runs over 40$! And I just hate the idea of needing an additional product like bronzing powder. (*****) On the plus/5-star side, they're very accommodating with giving customized and labeled samples for me to take home to try on my own. I absolutely LOVE this about them. I can't pass up nice, free loot. Another time, one staff person was SO sweet and enthusiastic when I told her I was ready to make my purchase, she'd even banged into a counter rushing over. Aw! She even gave me a bunch of cool samples I hadn't expected, telling me a bit about each one as she put them in my bag. Also, I'd mentioned to another person their Smashbox anti-aging primer with SPF tester wasn't working (it was completely full but dried out), and thankfully she told me I should not get it, else all the extra anti-aging ingredients would make me break out.
