Unfortunately, I have to leave a negative review for the Ulta Salon. I really hate doing this, and I'm purposely not naming the stylist because I'm not trying to personally bash anyone. I just want to share my experience, especially for anyone with really long, thick hair like I had. I came in on my birthday and spent $555 before tip, so this was honestly really disappointing. I came in with previously colored dark brown hair and explained that I wanted my overall color lighter, more of a chocolate brown. She initially suggested highlights over my dark base, but I told her that wasn't what I wanted. I didn't want dark hair with highlights; I wanted my overall color lighter. She said she could micro highlight my whole head to lift everything, but once she realized how much hair I had, she said it would take a really long time and hurt her wrist because I had so much hair. She said she would "see what she could do" instead. My hair ended up being colored and washed THREE separate times. Color, wash, color, wash, color, wash. By then my scalp was BURNING. She was also extremely rough combing through my hair. The comb kept scraping my already-burning scalp, and when she hit tangles she brushed through them so hard I literally had to hold my head/neck still or my head would get pulled backwards. I kept thinking there was no way this wasn't causing breakage. After all that processing, I was also surprised there wasn't some type of hydrating mask or treatment afterward. Then there's the color. My roots came out significantly lighter and warmer than the rest of my hair, with darker patches/bands where my hair didn't lift evenly. In certain areas it almost looks like a skunk stripe. I completely understand that I came in with previously colored dark brown hair. I know old color can be stubborn and she may not have been able to get my whole head to the chocolate brown I wanted in one appointment. I'm not upset about that. What I don't understand is seeing my roots becoming significantly lighter than everything else and still letting me leave like that. If my lengths weren't going to lift enough, I would've rather been told, or at least had my roots darkened so everything blended better. I've been getting my hair professionally colored for years. I've paid much more at other salons and significantly less, and I have never walked out with my hair looking like this. I've never had my roots this much lighter than the rest of my hair. It's noticeable and honestly embarrassing. She suggested I come back about a week later for highlights, but at that point I didn't feel comfortable putting my hair/scalp through anything else. Highlights over a darker base also weren't what I originally wanted. Then the haircut. I specifically asked for a "whisper of a trim" because I had just gotten my hair trimmed and layered about a month before. I did NOT want it short. Instead, she basically cut off my ends with thinning scissors and took off what felt like almost six inches. She left my existing layers and didn't add any shape or blend everything with the new length, so my hair looked like a thick broom at the bottom with my old layers sitting above it. I don't understand how a "whisper of a trim" turned into losing that much length. Towards the end, I could tell she was rushing because her next client was there. I asked about my blowout, and she quickly rough dried my hair with a Dyson and went through it with an Airwrap. The whole styling portion was under 10 minutes with no real direction--no smoothing, shaping, sectioning/pinning or round brush work. My hair was still frizzy and didn't look finished. I own an Airwrap myself and honestly could've done the same thing at home. Later that night I looked at my receipt and realized she charged me an additional $75 for a "blowout service." I was shocked. When I pay for a professional blowout, I expect actual smoothing/styling with a round brush, working through sections and pinning when needed--not an under-10-minute Airwrap style while rushing to the next client. Since the appointment, my hair has felt extremely dry and damaged and my scalp has been flaking like crazy. I have photos showing the uneven color/banding, dryness, and my flaky, irritated scalp afterward. The flaking was coming off in chunks and was honestly embarrassing. I wasn't expecting perfection or to magically get my dream color in one appointment. But I have never walked out of a salon this unhappy with my color, cut, the condition of my hair AND the styling. And on my birthday of all days Again, I'm not naming the stylist because I'm not trying to personally attack anyone. I'm just sharing what happened to me. If you have really long, really thick hair and are considering a major color change here, I personally would go somewhere else. I really wish I did. read more

I wanted to get tinsel on my hair after watching a video about it, so i called the store beforehand and made sure to set up an appointment at 4:00PM the lady told me that i have to be there on time as they charge 15 dollars per 15 min of work regardless of how much tinsel they put it. I got to the store a few minutes prior to 4:00PM and let her know that i have an appointment, she told me to wait since it was only 3:58 and my actual appointment was at exactly 4:00. I waited and didn't get talked to until 4:08 which wouldn't have been an issue if they weren't charging a dollar per minute. when i was sat the lady showed me a picture as a reference which i liked, but when she actually installed the tinsel it looked nothing like the picture, it was very empty and she ended up charging me 30 dollars for what i believe was not worth 30 dollars of time, work, or product. and the worst part is as soon as i left the store the tinsel started falling out of my hair as per the picture that i showed. and now 2 days later i have NO tinsel left and the Qtips that they installed are so close to my scalp to the point where they're painful to even touch so i am unable to remove them. the lady let me know at the store if they made me uncomfortable (seems like she knew) i would have to come back and pay to get them removed. overall terrible i would not recommend going. read more

This time, I came to her again to get a trim and hoped she could get closer to the same picture I showed another hairdresser who kind of ruined my hair half a year ago. Visited Ulta's salon for a blowout recently and it was an alright experience. My true rating would be closer to a 3.5 to be fair. I checked in on time for my appointment and was told to wait, as my stylist was still finishing up with a client and would be called over once she was done. I waited about 15 minutes before I got up to check in about my appointment. Apparently, the stylist wasn't aware that I checked in already and was waiting for her. There appeared to be a slight misunderstanding and this resulted in my service starting later and being rushed. Dorie was friendly and welcoming, and she did a thorough wash prior to blow drying my hair. I was also curious about adding curls and assumed it was included, however that was not the case. Dorie did communicate the additional cost of curling my hair ($39) and I was okay with it. She did a great job of styling my hair as requested and shared tips on how to extend the blowout for an event I was attending. While I was happy with the results, the overall experience, disorganized vibe, rushed service and lack of communication from the start left a lackluster impression. Dorie is truly great at what she does, but I am unsure on whether this specific Ulta Salon location is worth a visit. read more

I am extremely disappointed with both the makeup and hair services I received. The makeup was applied very unevenly, especially around the eyes. The eyeliner was different on each side, and the overall eye makeup looked completely unbalanced. It was so noticeable that multiple people commented on it and asked why each side of my face looked different. This is not what I expected from a professional makeup artist. The hair service was just as disappointing. My hair was left frizzy and looked unfinished. I was told it would be touched up and gone over before I left, but that never happened. Instead of a polished style, my hair looked messy and poorly done. What makes this even more frustrating is that I tipped for the service, expecting quality work and attention to detail. I have long, thick hair, and Mara has always helped me over the years in taking care of it. She has a special touch in how she cuts my bangs, and I only prefer her to do it. A good day! Their pricing can be really good especially during sales but you need to move quickly because seasoned shoppers will stock up. Fortunately, you can also order online as well if you cannot make it into the store. Honestly, it's fun to browse through what's new and check out the latest hot item or product! Ulta also offers services, probably most by appointment, for hair, waxing & brows, makeup and lashes, and skincare consultations. Parking is plentiful. Staffing is usually nice and helpful. Will get an occasional staff member who seems sorry to have encountered a customer. But thank goodness, most staff members are nice and helpful. Lol. Checkout can tedious if there's a sale on or it's the holidays. I don't remember seeing all the cashier stations open even during a sale. From extra charges due to my hair being thick without being told beforehand and it not being stated online nor in company policy to remarks- I hope that there is extra training implemented in this place for hair stylists. Been going to Hallie to get my all over color and cut. She is the best and always gives great service to me and my girls. My color and cut always comes out great and her customer service is top notch. She has great attention to detail when she worked on my hair. There is one thing that was concerning when I was at my appointment on 11/2 had to do with the receptionist that came on duty. She appeared to be sick and coughing all over the reception area of the salon. She didn't have any mask on and was constantly coughing at the register answering the phone calls and checking in clients. With flu season nearing you would think she would take the courtesy to wear a mask when checking in clients and not cough all over the reception station. Every time she coughed, it irked me that she is spreading her germs nearby. I've been to ulta multiple times in Colorado. I moved here temporarily and decided to get my hair done. I called and made an apt (told them over the phone what I needed done. Didn't request a specific stylist). When the receipt came I was SHOCKED by the price. I normally pay $100 in Colorado - for the exact service I was charged $200 more just because I had an "elite stylist" who I never requested. A tiny trim off the bottom was $92! thats insane. The client should be informed they're getting an "elite stylist" and of the price difference over the phone. Following my appt I noticed my face was torn apart by my temples. The stylist was scrubbing my skin trying to take the hair dye off my face and caused my skin to tear. If I could post pictures on here of my skin I would. I'm extremely upset by all of this. This is my first experience at the ulta salon. They have an easy online system to choose a service and make an appointment. I decided to try the Cleanse, Care, and Define service. Windy called me to confirm the appointment on the same day. I booked an appointment online with Windy on my birthday. I arrived 10 minutes late and I called the salon to inform the stylist Windy, but there was no answer. As soon as I got there, I knew why. It was BUSY in the store and salon. I walked to the back where I found the salon, all the chairs were filled. I informed one of the stylists that I had an appointment with Windy. She was away, but would be right back, and told me to take a seat in the waiting area. I waited maybe 10 minutes before she appeared. I apologized for arriving late and told her I wasn't able to reach anyone when I called. She told me it's very busy today. I told her I understood and then she thanked me for being late so that she would be able to eat her lunch. I told her I'm so glad she got to eat. She was very friendly, and kind. She explained everything she was going to do and I knew what to expect. She asked questions and I answered. She always made sure I was comfortable through the wash, sitting, and propping up my feet when I was under the dryer. I was there for two hours. My hair is long, thick, and curly. I chose to do coiling with products in my hair. I wanted my natural curls to stand out. It was such a wonderful experience and I am happy with the stylist & service she performed.
