I went into LUSH to buy bath bombs and bubble bars after a really hard week at work. I was quickly greeted by KOKI & EVIE who had the BEST customer service skills. They knew exactly what I needed and even recommended some great products like a ginger shampoo that could help with dandruff, and a moisturizing and hydrating conditioner called Candy Rain! They quickly provided me with free samples and great big smiles and lovely positive energy during my time in the store. I would've spent my whole evening there with them and spent my whole paycheck there if I could. Highly recommend this location!!!!! I went shopping here on Saturday, 1 weekend before Valentines. I stopped by this store because I heard they had really nice bath bombs. The staff really was COVID safe and made sure it was 1-2 customers shopping in the store and trying to limit the contact within 6 ft. Trish, one of the managers helped talk through all the different favorites of hers, as well as best sellers. The shopping experience was wonderful and I felt super safe in there and happy. I was absolutely new to the place so I was thankful that I had trish walk me through their products when I had questions. I was shopping for bath bombs and bubble bath only for a special occasion it being my birthday and celebrating Valentine's Day with my intended purchase. At checkout, the guy who rang me up was really sweet and offered their rewards to sign up and help keep record of my purchase so I remember what I got last time and liked. Trish surprised me with a small gift added to my purchase as well for my birthday. That was super unexpected and sweet!!! I really had a wonderful shopping experience and will be back for more of my bath bomb and bubble bar items. I tried the heart bath bomb, I think in the size of my tub, it needed maybe 2 of those hearts, but as for the rose petals, I wish it had been more. It looks like it was enough but it was like only 5 small petals. My favorite was the bubble bar, I would cup a corner of the cloud bubble bad and break a small piece off. I placed it under running bath water and the bubbles just foamed up soo nicely. The bubbles latest a pretty long time too in the bath time which was very nice. It was pricey for $12, but I'll be honest it was worth it. It made the bathroom smell SUPER NICE, water really moisturizing and silky. I was working around the area and I really wanted to buy a lip scrub after my friend showed me theirs. I don't think I've ever been to this Lush location before so I was pretty excited to check it out. I came in on a Monday afternoon so it wasn't busy at all. There was an employee named Sabrina who greeted me when I walked in and even went up to me to ask for help! I got her opinion on the different types of lip scrubs, which ones were popular, which one did she like, etc. After talking w/ her I decided on getting the Honey and Chocolate flavor lip scrubs! I was also looking for massage bars and she suggested to try the Each Peach because it had a zesty cirtus-y smell to it. Overall, super happy with my purchases and s/o to Sabrina for being so lovely. I LOVE THIS STORE!! Lush has been the best store when it comes to sustainability. When you finish, clean, and bring back your black pots, you can either trade 5 in for a free fresh face mask or you can trade them in for store credit (1$/pot) for an in-store purchase that day. Caitlin was so helpful and kind! She helped me count my pots and find products that worked for me. And then we meet Karly!!!! She is one cool lady! She is friendly, knowledgeable and very down to earth! She did a demonstration of their bath bomb, showing us how it foams and let us smell it. She also explained the Rose Jam perfume to us! My friend and I ended up spending an hour inside this store learning all their products! My personal favorites are their Shampoo Bar! It can be used 80-100 times! Perfect for camping and traveling! And little did I know that they make FRESH face masks!!! Because I had dinner commitment that evening. I honestly really wish that I could give the staff of this place 10 stars, which would apply to a big raise. My review is about a month late, but I wanted to make sure I wrote about my experience here. I hosted my 32nd birthday bash here with a few family and mostly friends. We basically threw a girls day out party. The process was very simple, I dropped by a month before to pick out the specifics for my party and made a deposit. Party day came and I was however a little worried because when I dropped in on my party schedules time they girls were very confused, and for a quick second I thought they forgot about my party lol but everything worked out. They had to set up and then the fun started. We started with face masks, then washing hands, then trying various products. We got to make our own bath bomb to take home as well. I don't want to give away too much details as I recommend you let yourself be surprised by how awesome bday parties are here. You not only get what you pick products to try in store but you have plenty of chances of requesting samples. Tons of samples! It's been a month and I'm still using them. Sweet, totally avoided all the horror stories this Lush has. Instead, I found a super friendly attendant willing to help me find the soaps I needed. Okay, you got me. I'm a guy that frequents Lush all the time. I've been to multiple locations in multiple states, so that probably calibrated my Lush-o-meter. Again, I don't think this Lush stand outs compared to any of the other locations in the Bay or outside of it. I think Lush in general does have an association with involved store associates, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. They give you better insight on what fits your needs. And I'm far from hazed if I tell them I'm just browsing or thinking of restocking. Seriously, they're nice young people, not vultures. For a smaller store the Hillsdale location is solid. read more

Honestly before coming in I did not consider myself a Lush girlie and tried to avoid the store because the smell can be overwhelming - but after my visit where I was going in to buy something for a friend, TRISH the employee there seriously changed my mind. I used to be really into Lush, or at least I thought I was. In hindsight, I think it was more mind control from the hard sell that Lush is known for that kept me buying more. With that being said, I've spent almost a decade away from any Lush stores. I stopped in to this one because while I think most of their products are more fun than functional, I do like the massage bars to use on my legs and elbows. I don't really use them for massage, but more for hydration and on my legs as a warm coating to keep my legs smooth and to skip that annoying step that happens right after you shave where you get one chill and all the stubble on your legs is back again. The massage bars help with that big time, for me at least. I walked in with my headphones on as a strategy to avoid being talked into trying and buying stuff I don't want. Immediately 3 people greeted me, which isn't a bad thing, and one rushed over right away though I'd already found the area I needed. She talked me through every kind of bar (there's about 10 of them) and made suggestions that were unrelated to what I said I was looking for. Then she brought over several more products that she wanted me to see and touch (don't touch them) though I neutrally declined because I know the sales drill here. She even brought over another sales associate to tell me more about something else I wasn't interested in that was a completely different product but had a scent I said I generally liked. I remained neutral, with headphones still on, phone in hand playing a game, and declining any attempts to get me to the products. After a few moments I think they got that I wasn't that type of customer and they moved on watching me make one round around the store up to the register. I think they gave the register girl 'the look' to let her know I was having none of it as I bought the two bars I wanted and I appreciated that they took the cues that I wasn't interested in laid off. Robbie is phenomenal! I usually hate coming here because of annoying people following me but Robbie is such a sweetheart. I wanted a specific bathbomb that was minty and lemony and he showed me exactly what I needed/wanted. Instead of giving me a salespersony talk, he made me enjoy getting my first bathbombs! He appreciated that I wanted just one bag for the two bathbombs than getting two lol and I appreciated that he noticed! I was concerned about the glitter in the bathbombs and he explained that it's not made out of plastic, instead it's made out of seaweed which is harmless when it goes back into the ocean hehe! Used to go to this particular store a lot since I really like lush but today I was greeted by an unusually rude salesperson who told me to "please stop opening that" (referring to a bath jelly on display.) Now I would've been fine, but her tone came off as incredibly rude. Then she says "oh yeah...by the way welcome to lush" and she stands there looking over me for a good minute or two. Ummm... alright then. Don't know if she was having a bad day or something but that experience alone really made me not want to go there anymore. I agree with the reviews that they tend to hover over you a lot too. Not always a bad thing though. I like a lot of the people I interact with there. But if you happen to encounter someone like I mentioned above then yeah... you'll probably just end up leaving too. Products are pricy but they deliver. Would give them 0 stars if I could. Had the worst experience in this store. I had purchased some gifts over the holiday which I returned in the store with the receipt and instead of refund they charged me for the items that I had returned. Luckily I caught it in time from my bank statement and called the store to sort out the issue. I was told by the person who answered my phone that the manager was not in that day and they would need the manager to set it right and was assured that the manager would be available the next day. She also asked me to come to the store the next day. When I went back to the store the next day cancelling and rescheduling the meeting that I had that day ( since it was a working day and the person on the phone told me that the manager would be there only between 11am - 5pm I went there at 4pm. The lady who helped me refunded the amount that was charged to my account by mistake but did not refund the original amount due from the return and said she would not not be able to do it since the manager had to be there to do it and asked me to come to the store the next day. She also tells me that their system sometimes does this and that this has happened before. I am shocked at this point because they knew that this was happening and they did not bother correcting it. I had already come to the store 3 times for this simple return to happen. The next day I go to the store but the employee tells me that the manager was not in but he did correct the issue and issued me a refund. I had to go the store 4 times to sort out a simple return and buyers beware as they said " their system sometimes can double charge". Check your bank statement after you shop at LUSH. I had been a Lush customer for the past 8 years but I have completely lost trust in them. The manager Trish still not called me or reached out to me for the mistake on their part. read more

I've always had a good experience at this Lush but this time it was awful! I bought a soap for 5$ last time and this time when I went there they said that's not the price for it. The lady weighted the soap and said it was 7.50 once they charged me I saw that the soap came out to be 8.82 plus tax. I went all the way back and told them what was wrong and apparently my time, money, and energy was wasted. The lady didn't even care what I told her and said I had to exchange the product which I tried to do but they didn't have the things I wanted. The person who told me to exchange was so rude and started talking to another customer instead of helping me find something. I have to waste more time and go there next Friday for a stupid exchange. This wasn't fair. Their justification of why this happened was "because the lady that weighted the soap for you has a soft voice".....wow! read more

I heard that Lush is environmentally conscious, gives back to the community, is cruelty free, and so much more. I was really impressed with what the company stands for so I finally decided to check it out in person. As soon as I entered the store, I was greeted by Hannah. The store was fairly busy with many people inside and she was the only one working at the time, but she made it a point to give me her attention. She asked what brought me in and I told her what I mentioned above about how impressed I am with the company's practices and ethics. She went into more detail for me and provided me with a free catalog. She walked me through the store and explained how each product is specially handmade in Canada and there's a sticker on everything showing who made it on what date. She also explained the recycling program. I was browsing with my four year old and Hannah was so kind to give her attention as well. Anyway, my daughter and I checked everything out and Hannah checked in on me periodically to make sure I was okay and explained all the products for me. I am really impressed with her knowledge, her high touch customer service, kindness, and genuine enthusiasm for the brand. She really made me excited for the brand as well. I later met Jeanette who came in the store and she recommended that I come in on Thursday to try a free facial. Both ladies are super awesome. The store is also beautiful and clean. It's such a great environment to be in. I am a believer in the brand now and I look forward to shopping more at Lush. read more

Might as well face it, I'm addicted to Lush. I've been intrigued by this brand since I first went to a Lush in Vancouver, maybe around 15 or so years ago. I've been to other locations in California since, and was happy that this location popped up a few months back. I've come to really love some of their products... especially the ones that aren't as heavily scented. The mintier ones come to mind first. The products themselves are pretty mild, which is nice for someone who has sensitive skin. Of course, YMMV, as all skin is pretty different and what works for me may make a colony of zits appear on you. What's more, the products are pretty concentrated, so that even though you're paying quite a bit for them, they last quite a while because you're not using a ton each time you shower or whatnot. The salespeople are, on the whole, friendly, and they're knowledgeable about the products. They like to answer your questions and are usually happy to give you a demo. A very cool thing: bring in five (clean!) used black pots and get a free fresh face mask. Also nice, this shop isn't as heavily fragranced as others I've been in. I'm used to being able to smell Lush down the street, and I thought it would be worse in a mall... not so here. The one hangup is that they seem to be out of things quite frequently--and there's no official "wait list" to place things on hold. That's frustrating. read more

Since I've had previous experience of Lush being out of the product that I was looking for, I called this location 20 minutes before making the trek down to the mall asking if they had the cleanser that I wanted in stock. The woman on the phone assured me that they had Angels on Bare Skin in stock, so I drove there expecting to come out with the cleanser. I get to the store, and lo and behold! there is not one tub of this particular cleanser out. So, I spoke with an employee and told her that I specifically called asking if they had this product and they had told me they did. She was completely unfazed by this, and instead, proceeded to offer me OTHER products. I bashfully denied all of her recommendations because I was not there for a replacement of any sort; all I wanted was Angels on Bare Skin. When she got back from "checking in the back" to tell me that there is none in stock, I was not only annoyed, but I felt as though I deserved some compensation for the inconvenience. Apparently this certain employee doesn't understand what a sample is. All I was asking for was a sample of Dark Angels to try because I've been interested in that product and was out of my daily cleanser. She continued to refuse me a sample because it may not suit my skin, and that if I would just tell her what my skin is like she would be "able to find me a replacement cleanser for the time being." Look, I'm not here to be sold another product. I get that that is your job, and what you're told to do, but I sincerely do not want to spend more money here on a product that I was not looking for. It was late at night, I had other Christmas shopping to do, dinner to cook; I was not in the mood to "test out products on my hand." What is it with Lush employees being to relentless? Can you genuinely not tell that I'm not interested in what you're trying to sell me? Or are you just that money hungry for commission that you completely neglect what the customer came for? I continually told her that I was not interested in any of the products nor testing any products out on my hand, yet she would not stop offering me different products. It was not until she told me that "so and so will now be helping you" that I just walked out entirely. I normally would not be that mad if they were out of what I was looking for, but the fact that I specifically called beforehand to ensure that this wouldn't happen and IT STILL HAPPENED, is what really pushes it over the edge. I'm sorry Lush. I really love this company and all that it stands for; however, if every trip there is going to be a battle like this one and the other experiences before, I might just stop shopping here altogether. read more

I've been in there 5 or 6 times and I don't understand all of the negative reviews about terrible employees asking "invasive questions" and "I was forced to buy something because I opened it and contaminated it with my hands and now they cannot sell it." That's like saying "I wanted to try a new brand of ice cream at Safeway so I opened it and licked the surface. An employee saw me do it but I didn't like it and then I had to pay for it! It didn't even look any different. Unbelievable." Products on display does not equal free-for-all. Should they have a seal on their products? Yes. Should you be going around opening everything and touching product "because it's there"? Absolutely not. Didn't your momma teach you some manners? Every time I've been in here, I've had nothing but a pleasant experience. Employees were attentive and super helpful, especially the one girl with red highlights in her hair and glasses during the Christmas season - can't remember her name. :( she actually remembered me and my name every time I went in there, totally confused about what products to buy as gifts and for myself because I don't really shop there that often, and I thought that was really cool because she sees lots of customers every day and tbh most customers aren't the slightest bit memorable. Absolutely love their massage bars and lotions, and the shower jelly is so cute! I haven't tried the fresh face masks but I'm sure I'll love them; they look like you could just eat them up! The soaps are heavenly; they have a lovely smell that lingers for a while after I shower and I love the innovative fragrance concepts of each one. They feel so creamy and cleansing on my skin when I shower, I will never give them up. A lot of these were higher-end, recommended by estheticians, but the only thing that has ever made a noticeable visible in my skin is the Fresh Farmacy bar that Lush carries. Even though I love Lush products, I understand why people get so annoyed when they visit. The people who work here have been "strongly recommended" to follow you around. (Sometimes I have to shake someone off 4 or 5 times before they let me browse in peace). The employees are determined, but I'm sure they just want to keep their job. This aside, I appreciate their initiative to end plastic waste and animal testing. All their containers are recyclable. The San Mateo Lush store is organized and breathable. Great products (when they're stocked, which seems to be never. Had an employee tell me to my face they never order products on time.) Horrible staff. There is no happy medium of service with them. They either don't pay attention to anyone in the store and goof off behind the counter or They will not leave you alone despite you telling them you know exactly what you need and want to get in and out.
