It's not a pretty sight, but over the last 3 1/2 weeks I've taken 50 Pilates classes and while some parts of me are looking tighter, there's def parts of me that are getting run ragged. So I came to Sephora for a little pick-me-up in between classes to get some of my make-up basics that I'd run out of and a few treats for myself so that when I do get ready for a day that doesn't involve 4-hours of pilates, I won't look sub-human. The store lives on a pretty prime corner in downtown Burlingame, so don't forget to bring your quarters for parking because as progressive as this city is they still use coin-operated parking meters that only take quarters in a world where people only carry plastic. It's bright and airy inside and though it's a little tighter that most other Sephora's they carry just as much merch, if not more. Their displays are dangerously well put-together and they know exactly what I don't need but want to but and place it right on the route to the register. The line corral here is a little short and old people are clearly very confused by it based on the one woman who was so close to me I thought she was going to ask if I'd pay for her stuff, too. When my Sephora account didn't immediately come up in their system the girl at the register took the time to find it using other information and update my file so it wouldn't happen again, even though she could have just waived me off and taken care of the next person... who was that crazy old woman who was trying to juke my personal space. read more

My husband and I were on a day date and in Burlingame before we were supposed to go to dinner with some friends. We'd been out all day, and so I flipped down the car mirror to freshen my lipstick. I was aghast at how none of my make-up seemed to be on my face anymore! I spotted the Sephora and had my husband circle around while I dashed in, intending to buy some basics. I was the equivalent of a sure thing -- from a sales perspective, that is. Whoever helped me would have had a modest but quick sale -- I needed tinted moisturizer, powder, blush, eyeliner, STAT. Have you ever seen the movie Pretty Women? Remember when she goes shopping on Rodeo Drive and the women in the boutiques would not give her the time of day... well, that is how I feel every time I would visit this location. Which was quite often because I used to live down the street and I did not have a car. So I went there by default. And every time I felt like garbage. I was never welcomed, and if I was, I was never asked if I needed help. I am not easily intimidated but these women made me feel inferior. If they did not have what I was looking for, which was often, I was not helped with ordering the product. It was simply and "oh well". I always felt lost while shopping. I realized after giving Sephora Union Square two stars, I had to go back to sephora anyway to get female enhancement products called cosmetics for my wedding. It doesn't matter if people always say things like "just be yourself", or "you don't need make up cuz it's so fake", yadda yadda yadda, nobody wants look fugly and pasty on their wedding pics, ya? One chick helped me find the right shade, and even went to ask another chick to make sure she made the right choice. In case you're wondering, I ended up getting Make Up Forever's HD (yes, HD as in High Definition, I didn't realize you can compare a face to a plasma TV) foundation and concealer which worked pretty well in hiding some of my uglies. The greeters excel at judging incoming/outgoing customers from head-to-toe and chatting with other co-workers. Here, they have to represent all products, so they're not shy about saying what' s good and what's not. LOVE THAT! For ex, I kinda wasn't feelin the shampoo I bought last time and heard Ojon was good. Sales lady confirmed Ojon and gave additional advice on hair products. Also picked up a couple Philosophy items that won Best of Sephora. They carry smaller product sizes, so you can try it without overcommitting yourself to a $40 jar of moisturizer that you may not like. At the counter I asked if they had any free samples. Instead of just shoving a bunch of things in my bag (that I probably wouldn't use), she asked, what would you like to try, something for your face or hair? She proceeded to ask about my skin and gave me samples that I could really use. I've come to the conclusion that a good majority of the staff at this Sephora location just hates customers. Specifically, the girl that "helped" ring up my purchase, Jazmin. My impression- I was somehow inconveniencing her during my checkout. When the transaction was complete, she threw my things in a bag and turned to talk to another person. She didn't give me my receipt so I just stood there waiting until another staff member next to her asked me if there was anything else I needed. I mentioned that I didn't get my receipt and she quickly grabbed it for me and apologized (I didn't get her name but she was really nice). I noticed a little later that I was overcharged. I went back to Sephora to get an adjustment and Jazmin is "helping" me again with my purchase. I told her that I was overcharged for an item. She scanned it again and with attitude said, "It says $70." Really? She couldn't have been a little more helpful? Maybe something like, "Oh, let me check on the price for you" could've been so much nicer. She walked over to the perfume area to double check how much the item was listed at, came back to the cash register and started punching numbers without telling me whether I would receive my price adjustment. On top of that she was rolling her eyes at the fact that someone asked her to make a return on the item. I guess it was one additional step that was just too difficult to do. Unprofessional. I think this Sephora location is fantastic and I had a wonderful experience here the other afternoon. I was in the need of some more gel eyeliner and moisturizer as well as wanting to check out a new make-up remover and some eye cream and so I figured going to Sephora was my best bet. The first thing that was awesome was that there is a two hour pay parking lot on the same block of Sephora that actually had quite a few spaces available in it so for once parking was easy. The second thing that was awesome was that almost immediately after entering the store I was able to find someone to help me. Her name was Andrea and she was great. She answered all my questions and was extremely patient and helpful. I also felt that she was really giving me her honest opinion on the products and would show me multiple options of each item so that I could choose the one that best suited what I was looking for. Also her make-up was flawless and who else would you rather have helping you then someone who obviously knows what they are doing. ASK FOR ANDREA! Thirdly I am really happy with everything I purchased and really love my new eyeliner and concealer and I can't wait to get paid again (cause yeah I did drop some serious dough) and buy more things to make me feel pretty! read more

The service wasn't outstanding and the makeup application was OK. They don't always have the free gifts you are supposed to receive when making a purchase (according to their coupons). Many of the Sephora stores I've been to claim that if the customer is not satisfied with the product, he or she can exchange it. This store allowed me to exchange my concealer for another color and to return my eyeliner hassle-free, so that is a plus. *FYI: The Sephora Liquid Eyeliner that claims to last a long time, or all day, is not so good. Date: 3/3/11 Mission: Lancome Artliner & Shiseido eyelash curler Time: 2pm Time taken: 20 minutes. My mission somewhat failed unfortunately. I LOVE the Lancome Artliner I had. I have been living without it for the past month and I told myself I HAVE to make a trip to Sephora and get it back. I need it. So i walked in, found the Lancome section, looked through the artliners..NO noir ( black). what?! of course they ran out. bummer. I asked this young lady for help, she checked the stock drawers right underneath the counter and told me they ran out, but could offer me something similar. She first walked me to the Make Up Forever section, nope. Didn't find what she wanted to show me. Then we proceed to Urban Decay, nope. Also out of stock. I was quite patient though, since she was trying hard to help. At last, she brought me to the Stila counter section and picked up the Stila Stay all day waterproof liquid eye liner. She immediately took the sample one and did a swatch on the back of her hand, and rubbed it to show me it was waterproof. I was in need of an liquid eyeliner. And the Stila one was cheaper than the Lancome one. $20 instead of $29. So I gave it a shot. Apparently they don't carry the Shiseido eyelash curler in stores anymore. But i saw it on their website last night? I was offer the tarte eyelash curler, $15 with a mascara sample in a bag. not bad. Staff are helpful. But not many of them will ask if you need help. Not much to comment on except for the service I experienced with the cashier. Yes, I understand it's the holiday season which means you're even busier and people tend to give you attitude. BUT, you should not bring your attitude to the next customer in line (or to any customer at all). Yes, I understand it's almost your lunch break and you're probably hungry from standing all day. BUT, you should've at least finished my transaction (which would've took at most 2 more minutes), rather than explaining where you were in the process with me to another associate (that ended up taking longer than if you had just stayed). Don't you just love when a person can make you feel like a million bucks?! Well this review is long overdue! I went to this Sephora a month and a half ago and thought I was going in quickly for something I thought I was going to get. I went in....couldn't find what I was looking for and was approached by a nice Sephora rep named Casey Riddle. I asked him where the Makeup Forever line was, and of course, he shows me. Then we start talking and he suggests something from Laura Mercier. Honestly, at first, I really wasn't planning to hear him out because I thought I knew exactly what I wanted. Well, I was wrong! Let's just say Casey did a wonderful color match, added some blush, bronzer and finishing spray and wah-la! I walked outta there feeling like I was struttin down the runway fashion show! No, but really, Casey did AN AWESOME JOB. And to him, it may not seem like he did much, but when he taught me about using product to properly even out my skin tone, he had me feeling great about it; it was definitely worth it! He was great with my patient little man too, not to mention sweet :) Sephora - high end, nice cosmetics and they have brands most places do not carry. But what I love about Sephora is not so much for wide range of products they carry, but also for their great customer service. The store is neat, clean and organized. I don't understand how this guy, the short guy with the medium tan skin tone, is the store manager?! His customer service sucks big time!!! I tried some products out for 4 days, but I had to return them because those products caused irritation on my skin. The manager was the one who helped me with my returns. He got some balls to tell me that I can't be buying products and returning them!! He got on my last nerve and he really pissed me out!! I straight up told him in his damn face that where in the hell did it say in Sephora's policy that I can't return any of the products if those products didn't work out for my skin!!! I returned those products less than a week, which was way within their 30 days return policy!!! I understand that they don't offer samples because of covid. Then they should understand that customers have the rights to buy whatever products that they want, and if for any reasons that the customers don't like the products, then they also have the rights to return them....if not, then how would customers know if any of those products work out for them or not?! I also told him that if he continues to provide lousy customer service, then people will never shop at this store, and that he should be grateful that there are loyal customers like me who spend our hard earned money and shops here because if it wasn't for us, he wouldn't be having a job!!! It's both a blessing and a curse that I live near Sephora. This location in particular has great customer service. They are friendly and are generous with their samples. Their sales associates are knowledgeable with the products; I've had good product recommendations from them. During the VIB sale, I needed a certain Laura Mercier product and a SA looked in the drawer and found what I was looking for! I was impressed because the product is fairly new and not popular yet. This location does not have certain brands such as Lorac.. They are often well-stocked. I always feel welcomed at this location and I can freely browse without being "bothered." The customer service is lacking at this store. I had a $11 travel make up remover that I purchased and the lid on it was not working. I spend $100's of dollars a year with this store and they would not exchange it for me. Knowing my tendency to grab randomly, Sephora and I have an agreement that I will only make one purchase at a time. And, it usually works. However, all bets are off when it comes to Sephora.com. Somehow I signed myself up for the Beauty Insider where you get free gift packaging all the time (their boxes rock!) and free shipping over $75. It's strangely easy to spend $75 online. One thing I especially love about this Sephora location is the excellent staff. I am almost always greeted with a smile when walking in! I came in on a Saturday night 10 minutes before Sephora closed, and Kvan was super helpful and knowledgeable about all of the products I asked about. I really know nothing about makeup- I use Bare Minerals Foundation and that's just about it. But the other day, my friend and I were looking for mascara- a really good one for asian lashes, ya know? Sales associates at this location are frequently hanging around which makes it really frustrating when you need to quickly check out and you see them around the store perimeters joking around with one another. More than a few times I have walked in needing to purchase items but walked out due to the long line or the frustration I felt waiting in line. I give Sephora 4 stars because I am definitely a fan. I visit Sephora often, and the Burlingame store is nearest to me. I rarely go as far as Stanford or San Francisco to support my habit, but have been known to make a trip into those stores if I'm there. I love the brands, and I love that everything can be tried on. I also love that the store is so clean. You have to think of things like that when you're trying samples that hundreds of others have also tried. I know for a fact that cleanliness is big with the staff at Sephora, and they take very seriously that people double-dip and have nasty habits. So, I like the fact that they take extra effort to keep things clean for the next person. What bothers me is what bothers many of the other readers here - the staff. They seem bitchy, snobby, and most times rush to help only because they are told to. They do say hello when I enter the store and goodbye when I leave, but it feels forced. The headsets have GOT to go. I see them as a parody on Saturday Night Live. At times I feel like vultures have descended upon me when they ask over and over if they can help. Their salesmanship smacks of unsincerely at times, and makes me really uncomfortable. I'm the kind of makeup shopper that doesn't like to be bothered...period. I don't want someone to suggest a color for me and I don't want them to apply it. I've had far too many visits to a makeup counter where a salesperson suggested an overly yellow foundation for my red undertoned skin, and I walked out of there looking like I had jaundice. I'm extremely picky about any cosmetic I buy and I know what looks good on me. I do appreciate being helped, but sometimes, it's overkill and does ruin the experience. It also makes me feel like they think I might steal something. Seriously - that's the feeling it gives me, and I know I'm not alone! To be fair, there have been a few really nice gals that worked there a few years back. The last few times I visited, I didn't see them. The staff now are extremely young and they don't know what it is to actually relate to their customers. This needs serious work. Usually when I go to these high end stores , I feel kind of over whelmed because let's face it, I literally know nothing about make-up, aside from what I learn from youtube. I also feel a bit intimidated to approach any of the workers but that's not the case here! I was greeted upon entry and as I exited. I asked the young lady who stood near the door if she could help me and she said she would tell someone to meet me at the specific area. I understand this because someone needs to stand by the door to greet, makes perfect sense. I browsed the foundations while I waited and I was soon greeted by Sarina! I inquired about the difference between the two foundations and she began testing them to find the right color. After that she offered to try it out on my face and handed me a package of make-up remover wipes. Let me just say that I always feel uncomfortable and self-concious taking off my make-up but she asked if I was indeed comfortable doing so! I was a little nervous at first but she was totally chill and super friendly. She made conversation as she put the two foundations on my face and I did not feel pressured at all. I really appreciate that she took the time to do both sides of my face, offered to add blush and bronzer and gave her honest opinion ( i hope). I didn't feel like she was trying to make a sale or however it works there, but that she was trying to make a customer happy. Props to Sarina!! They didn't have to make it so obvious though. When my friends and I were walking towards an employee, he stopped and was talking jn his earpiece and said "okay, I'll keep an eye out". Every aisle we were in, somebody was there watching us. Every time I enter this store I always get greeted and asked if I can he helped in any way. Maybe it's cause I'm a guy and I look lost. But nonetheless the service is great and they know what I'm asking for even if I have a poor description of the product. Plus they are always stocked with the items I am looking for. The only problem I have is the parking. Everything is metered and sometimes it can be really hectic looking for a space near by. If it weren't for the parking, you'd get five stars. read more

To me, Sephora is just as good as any makeup store, and I would give it 3 or 4 stars normally. However, my experience with the customer service was so amazing, I had to yelp & share about it! My friend & I went on a Sunday afternoon seeking advice/help on lipstick. We had no idea where to begin or how to go about trying on lipsticks. Then came Andrea, our savior! She told us not to worry & that she would point us in the right direction. For each of us, she pointed out the best colors for our skin type & hair color. After that, she had us try on and did a step by step tutorial for us on how to apply lip liner and lipstick. I was so happy with the results! My lipstick looked sophisticated & chic, and it was so easy! Andrea was so informed, sweet & professional throughout the entire process & she made us feel extremely comfortable. I left that day with a whole bunch of lipstick products & a whole lot of confidence & excitement! Thank you so much, Andrea! You truly made my experience at Sephora a great one. read more

This Sephora location is by far my favorite. The store itself is spacious and bright. It is always clean and is always fully stocked. I've never visited and left not getting what I needed. Every time I've visited, the staff is always knowledgeable and helpful. They always give me options and suggestions and genuinely seem interested. They make recommendations and are always more than willing to give you samples of products that you could try out. They always greet you when you come in and thank you for visiting when you leave. It's the little things that count on making the customer experience a good one. read more
